Barcelona make seven players untouchable in transfer market including Messi and Griezmann despite financial issues

BARCELONA will not sell Antoine Griezmann this summer amid reports of a personal meeting to reassure the striker.
Speculation has been rife that the Frenchman will be allowed to leave as part of the Camp Nou club’s desperate attempts to balance their finances.

The coronavirus pandemic, coupled with a spiralling wage bill, has taken its toll on the Catalans.
Having agreed a large wage cut, worth up to 70 per cent, with the squad as the crisis began, talk of player sales ramped up.
Griezmann was reportedly one of the star names lined up for a shock exit, only a year after arriving from Atletico Madrid.
And Barcelona’s return to the pitch to see out the LaLiga season did little to quell those rumours, with the 29-year-old starting only three of the first six games back.

Last week, it was even suggested that he was ready to hear out an offer from either Manchester club, City or United.
According to ESPN, the club arranged a meeting with Griezmann’s sister and agent, Maud, to calm any worries about his future.

Both parties are said to have come out of the talks satisfied and he is now set to stay put.
Griezmann is reportedly classed as unsaleable alongside Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, Sergio Busquets, Gerard Pique, Frenkie de Jong and Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

The striker returned to Quique Setien’s starting XI to face Villarreal at the start of the month, scoring a sumptuous chip in the 4-1 win.
The scenes of celebration were a far cry from the fury over his late substitute appearances against Celta Vigo and Atletico Madrid.
A mere two-minute runout against his old club prompted angry responses online from his brother Theo and father Alain.
Pro-gamer Theo wrote “I feel like crying, seriously” while Alain accused Setien of not having “the keys to the lorry”, describing him as a “passenger” – before the posts were deleted.
The coach refused to apologise for the meagre outing as he looked to close the gap on title race favourites Real Madrid.
Setien stated: “I don’t agree that I have no confidence in him.
“He’s an important player, but I understand it’s tough for him to come on with so little time left. I will speak with him [on Wednesday].
“I won’t say sorry, because [it’s about] decisions, but I understand he may feel bad, and I feel bad for him because he’s a great person and a great professional.”

Manuel Pellegrini named new Real Betis boss eight-months after being sacked by West Ham

MANUEL PELLEGRINI has been unveiled as the new Real Betis boss with the Chilean to take charge of the club next season.
SunSport reported earlier in the week how the 66-year-old was edging closer to landing his fourth job at a LaLiga side.

    1

Real Betis have announced that Manuel Pellegrini will become their new manager
Pellegrini – who was sacked by West Ham just eight months ago – has previously managed Real Madrid, Malaga and Villarreal.
He will already making plans for next season having signed a three-year deal at the Estadio Benito Villamarin.
Betis – who sit in 13th spot in the Spanish top-flight after 35 games played – have been on the lookout for a new gaffer after sacking Rubi last month.
The club’s sporting director Alexis Trujillo has taken temporary charge of the Andalusian outfit – winning two out of five games.

But they have acted swiftly to bring Pellegrini to the club – a year after they failed to lure him from the London Stadium.
Despite Pellegrini’s first managerial role coming in 1988, he doesn’t boast a trophy cabinet that can match most of his rivals.
The highlight of his career was undoubtedly the 2013/14 season in which he guided Manchester City to the Premier League title as well as winning the League Cup.

    Manuel Pellegrini – teams managed

    Universidad de Chile – 1988-1989
    Palestino – 1990-1992
    O’Higgins – 1992-1993
    Universidad Catolica – 1993-1995
    Palestino – 1998
    LDU Quito – 1999-2000
    San Lorenzo – 2001-2002
    River Plate – 2002-2003
    Villarreal – 2004-2009
    Real Madrid – 2009-2010
    Malaga – 2010-2013
    Manchester City – 2013-2016
    Hebei China Fortune – 2016-2018
    West Ham – 2018-2019
    Real Betis – 2020-

Another League Cup was secured the following the campaign, but that is the last piece of silverware he won.

Prior to his achievements in England, he had won the Argentinian league twice – once at San Lorenzo in 2001 and once with River Plate in 2003.
The Ecuadorian league was secured in 1999 at LDU Quito, with his first trophy coming at Universidad Catolica where he won the Chilean Cup in 1995.

Real Madrid plot Kylian Mbappe and Eduardo Camavinga transfer swoops in 2021 as Zidane eyes overhaul

REAL MADRID are reportedly plotting a double swoop for Kylian Mbappe and Eduardo Camavinga in 2021.
Spanish publication Sport claims that Zinedine Zidane has told his French compatriots not to renew their contracts with their current clubs.

The financial impact of the coronavirus pandemic means that Madrid are unlikely to invest millions in the transfer market this summer.
Yet the Spanish giants are hopeful of a huge spree in 2021 and have eyed moves for Mbappe and Camavinga.
Both players have contracts with their Ligue 1 clubs, Paris Saint-Germain and Rennes, respectively, until 2022.
Should they opt against renewing their current deals, the French sides may be forced to accept a reduced offer for their stars next year rather than risk losing them for free.

Mbappe has been linked with a move to Madrid since his Monaco days after growing up with Los Blancos posters on his bedroom wall.
The striker has reportedly been offered a staggering £600,000-a-week contract to remain with the Ligue 1 champions.
Yet Mbappe was said to be unwilling to pen a new deal unless a clause was inserted allowing him to move to Madrid if Real match PSG’s asking price.
The World Cup winner’s move to Los Blancos was said to be “almost done” before the coronavirus pandemic.

The youngster was made a top priority as the Spanish outfit look to sign a defensive midfielder and long-term replacement for Casemiro.
Rennes had been asking for around £60m amid interest from Arsenal and Manchester United but clubs are unlikely to spend such money due to the coronavirus crisis.

Ex-Man Utd and Arsenal star Van Persie snubs Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo from three Ballon d’Or 2020 nominations

NEITHER Lionel Messi nor Cristiano Ronaldo made the cut in Robin van Persie’s 2020 Ballon d’Or ranking.
The Dutchman posted his top three footballers of the year online ahead of the current season coming to a close.

    2

The former striker, 36, felt Robert Lewandowski was more deserving of the award
With the nominations usually released in November, the business end of the campaign is often the best time for players to stake their claim.
For ex-Manchester United and Arsenal hero Van Persie, the top gong is currently heading in Robert Lewandowski’s direction.
A whopping 21 goals since the turn of the year have helped Bayern Munich to another domestic double and few would bet against the Bavarians going far in August’s Champions League showdown.
Bagging a goal a game is no mean feat for any striker but the Pole’s stunning 51 strikes in 41 games this season place him among the favourites for the 2020 honour.

Coming in at second place for RVP is Kevin De Bruyne, ahead of Liverpool’s Sadio Mane.
Manchester City have experienced a slight decline this season after two irrepressible years at the top of the Premier League but the Belgian playmaker has maintained his fantastic standards.
And after Virgil van Dijk finished as runner-up in 2019, the Dutchman fancies Mane to make the podium this time around following Liverpool’s first league title in 30 years.
As ever, the case for Ronaldo and Messi is a strong one.

Juventus are heading for yet another Scudetto with the Portuguese forward’s difficult start to the campaign turning around to a stunning streak of 16 goals in 13 Serie A appearances this calendar year.
Messi’s form over the past seven months may not be enough to drag an inconsistent Barcelona to a third-straight LaLiga crown but the 33-year-old’s 700th career goal arrived last month.
A 2020 tally of 13 goals and 15 assists keeps the Argentine in the race for a seventh Ballon d’Or but the upcoming Champions League mini-tournament may well decide exactly who bags this particular trophy come December.
