Arsenal sign Thomas Partey in last-gasp transfer as Arteta pays £45m Atletico release clause after missing out on Aouar

ARSENAL have completed a dramatic deadline day deal to sign Thomas Partey for £45million.
A combative midfielder, such as Partey or Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar, has been high on Mikel Arteta’s wish list throughout the transfer window.

But the Gunners’ chances of sealing a deal appeared remote after Aouar committed to his current club for another season.
Serious talk of Ghana international Partey finally arriving then broke on Monday afternoon, with the player reportedly remaining in Spain to complete a quickfire deal.
Arsenal have paid Atletico Madrid his £45million release clause, significantly shortening the time required for negotiations.
Wth the deal signed, new No18 Partey is expected to fly to Turkey to join his Ghana national team squad.
Atletico confirmed the deal after his transfer fee was received.
The Spanish club stated that the paperwork was completed at 10.28pm UK time, just over half an hour before the deadline.
Mikel Arteta told the Arsenal website that he was thrilled to seal the transfer after months of monitoring the player.

He said: “We have been watching Thomas for a while, so we’re now delighted to add such a high quality player to our squad.
“He is a dynamic midfielder with great energy. He brings a lot of experience from a top club that has competed at the highest level in La Liga and the Champions League for several years.

With his all-round game and positive aggressive style, he will be a brilliant addition to our squad.
    EduArsenal Technical Director

“We’re very impressed with his attitude and his approach to the game. He’s an intelligent footballer and we’re looking forward to him integrating into our system and contributing to the progress we’re building at the moment at the club.”
Technical director Edu added: “Thomas has all the right attributes to be a top player for Arsenal.
“He is a leader on and off the pitch and he is exactly the kind of player and person we want at the club. We already feel like we know Thomas very well based on the work we have done analysing his performances closely in recent times.
“With his all-round game and positive aggressive style, he will be a brilliant addition to our squad. We’ve made a strong start to the season and we want to continue to build on this with Thomas now part of our club.”
The deal comes just after the club were finally able to shift Lucas Torreira and Matteo Guendouzi off their loan bill.
Torreira heads in the opposite direction, joining Atletico Madrid on a season-long loan.

    2

Partey showed his excitement for the move on Instagram

Arsenal confirmed in a statement: “Everyone at Arsenal wishes Lucas well during his time with Atletico Madrid this season.”
French midfielder Guendouzi, an outcast after falling out with Arteta, has left for Hertha Berlin on a loan deal of his own.
Dani Ceballos, Pablo Mari and Cedric Soares have all stayed on at Emirates Stadium after signing last year, with Willian, Gabriel Magalhaes and Runar Alex Runarsson all joining in a busy window.

Arsenal duo Lucas Torreira and Matteo Guendouzi seal loan transfers away to Atletico Madrid and Hertha Berlin

LUCAS TORREIRA has followed Matteo Guendouzi out of the exit door at the Emirates on loan for the season.
The midfielders dropped down the pecking order with Mohamed Elneny returning to form and Dani Ceballos returning from Real Madrid for another season.

And with Arsenal chasing Thomas Partey from Atletico Madrid, the club allowed Torreira and Guendouzi to head out on loan.
Uruguayan Torreira, 24, has headed the other way by joining Atletico for the 2020-21 season.
The Spanish giants have the option to make the transfer permanent at the end of the season.
Guendouzi, meanwhile, will spend the campaign in the Bundesliga with Hertha Berlin.
The pair both signed for the Gunners in 2018 under Unai Emery.
Only three players made more appearances for the club than Guendouzi in his first season in North London.
But the 21-year-old Frenchman fell out with Mikel Arteta last season.

He has not featured since his meltdown at Brighton on June 20, Arsenal’s second match after the restart.

Like his fellow midfielder, Torreira was not included by Arteta in any of their opening seven matches of this term.
Arsenal triggered Ghana star Partey’s £45million release clause before finalising personal terms and contract details as the 11pm deadline loomed.

Southampton let record £16m transfer Guido Carrillo leave for Elche on free after scoring NO goals in three flop years

SOUTHAMPTON have let £19million flop striker Guido Carrillo leave for nothing.
The Argentine’s time on the South Coast has been a complete disaster since arriving in 2018 from Monaco.

He managed just ten appearances in which he failed to score before being packed off to Spanish side Leganes for consecutive loans over the last two seasons.
Saints have now decided to terminate the 29-year-old’s contract to allow him to move to LaLiga new-boys Elche.
A Southampton statement read: “The club thanks Guido for his efforts during his time at Southampton and wishes him well for the future.”

Carrillo was signed to bolster ex-boss Mauricio Pellegrino’s tepid frontline.
The Argentine had Ligue 1 tallies of four, seven and four in his two-and-a-half year spell in the principality.
And his woes in front of goal have continued out on loan in Spain.
He managed six goals in 32 appearances for Leganes in his first spell away from St Mary’s.

And last season he bagged just one in 24.

Saints are also set to make a huge loss on £15m defender Wesley Hoedt – who has returned to Lazio on loan with an option to buy.
And £16m winger Sofiane Boufal has joined French side Angers on a free transfer.
Manager Ralph Hasenhuttl has recruited Kyle Walker-Peters, Mohammed Salisu and Ibrahima Diallo this summer – and has overseen two wins from his side’s opening four games so far in the Premier League.

Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez reunited for first time since striker’s Barcelona axe as they drive to airport together

LIONEL MESSI and Luis Suarez have reunited for the first time since the latter completed his move to Atletico Madrid last month.
Barcelona unceremoniously ditched the Uruguayan striker, despite the ex-Liverpool star having provided six years of excellent service.

    5

    5

Suarez also got out of the car as the pair were reunited

Messi, 33, hit out at his club’s board following the transfer, insisting that his friend ‘deserved better’.
But perhaps distance has only made their hearts grow fonder, as the best pals travelled to Barcelona airport together to travel to South America for international duty.
Messi, who is eligible after having his suspension overturned, will face Ecuador and Bolivia in World Cup qualifiers with Argentina.
Suarez, 33, meanwhile, will face Chile in Montevideo – before travelling to Ecuador.

The duo actually faced off against each other in their last international match – both scoring in the 2-2 draw between their respective nations in November last year.
But this time around, Suarez will fly back to Madrid, rather than returning to Barcelona with Messi.
Upon Suarez’s departure, Messi wrote on Instagram: “I was already getting the idea but today I entered the locker room and the news became real.
“How difficult it is going to be not to continue sharing the day to day with you, both on the pitch and outside.

“We will miss them so much. It was many years, many lunches, dinners… many things that will never be forgotten, every day together.
“It will be strange to see you with another shirt and much more to face you.
“You deserved to be praised for what you are: one of the most important players in the club’s history, achieving important things both as a group and individually.
“And not to get kicked out like they did. But the truth is that at this point nothing surprises me.
“I wish you all the best in this new challenge. I love you very much, I love you very much. See you soon friend.”
The pair even holidayed together in July, boarding a yacht near Ibiza with wives Antonela Rocuzzo and Sofia Balbi.
And they are next due to face off when Atletico host Barcelona on November 22.

Tottenham star Juan Foyth seals transfer move away to Villarreal on loan after signing new Spurs deal to 2023

TOTTENHAM defender Juan Foyth has joined Villarreal on loan.
Foyth has featured sparingly for Spurs under Jose Mourinho and will head out on loan for the rest of the 2020-21 season to secure first-team football.

Foyth has also signed a one-year extension to his Spurs contract which ties him to the club until 2023.
However, Marca claims the deal to take the Argentine to Villarreal also includes an option for the Spanish side to buy the player for £13.6million.
The move will see Foyth link up with former Arsenal manager Unai Emery, who is now in charge of the Spanish side.
Emery had reportedly identified the 22-year-old centre-back as his main defensive target for the summer transfer window.

Foyth is expected to be available for Villarreal’s next match against Valencia in two weeks’ time.
In the meantime, he will join the Argentina squad this week for their World Cup qualifying matches against Ecuador and Bolivia.
Foyth joined Tottenham from Estudiantes in 2017 and has made 32 appearances for the club.

Spurs have also agreed to send Ryan Sessegnon on loan to Hoffenheim.

Boss Mourinho has stated he wants to trim his squad down to 22 outfield players plus goalkeepers after the signings of Matt Doherty, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Gareth Bale, Sergio Reguilon and Carlos Vinicius this summer.
However, the north London outfit are still on the hunt for a new centre-back before the transfer window closes on Monday.
A deal for Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar is looking unlikely at this stage, but Spurs could make a formal offer for Chelsea’s Antonio Rudiger before the deadline.

Man Utd transfer chase of Barcelona’s Ousmane Dembele hots up as Ronald Koeman admits ‘his future depends on him’

RONALD KOEMAN has hinted Ousmane Dembele could depart Barcelona for Manchester United as he stated the future is in his hands.
The 23-year-old has been heavily linked with a switch to Old Trafford on a loan deal, with the forward seen as an alternative to Jadon Sancho.

It has been claimed that Paul Pogba has been trying to convince his French compatriot to swap LaLiga for the Premier League.
Negotiations are said to be progressing well, with L’Equipe stating the World Cup winner is ‘enthusiastic’ about joining Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side.
And Barca boss Koeman has now revealed that Dembele could be on his way out of the Nou Camp – three years after he joined from Borussia Dortmund.
He told reporters in Spain: “He [Dembele] is a Barca player.

“His future depends on what he thinks.
“I haven’t spoken to him about his future. We’ll see.
“I want to have happy people here, if they [players] aren’t happy because they don’t play, they can speak to me.
“Dembele hasn’t told me anything. If nothing happens, I’m counting on him and he will have options [to play].”

As well as a move for Dembele, United have also been linked with bringing Edinson Cavani to the Theatre of Dreams.
The Uruguay striker is available on a free transfer having run his contract down at Paris Saint-Germain.
It has been claimed that the 33-year-old has held talks with United, who wants a two-year contract and a weekly wage of £210,000.

Watch Sergino Dest’s awful attempt at kick-ups at Barcelona unveiling before saving himself with sublime bit of skill

BARCELONA’S new right-back Sergino Dest made a total pig’s ear of his unveiling kick-ups before saving face with a sublime skill.
The American right-back arrived at the Nou Camp yesterday in a £23.5million deal from Ajax but his first impression did not impress fans.

But fans were not impressed with the £23.5m man’s showingCredit: AFP

Footage shows Barca’s new No 2 place the ball between his legs and attempt an ‘around-the-world’ before it ricochets off his thigh and rolls away from him.
The 19-year-old then panics and attempts to flick the ball back up with the outside of his right foot before awkwardly spooning it away from himself again.
Dest tried to compose himself and do a simple toe flick to start his traditional kick-ups but even that failed as it glanced of his shin and out of his reach.

Barca reportedly had him come back and film the kick-ups again after the blooper video went viral.
And footage released later saw Dest save face somewhat as he performed an impressive ‘spinny-flicky’ move that saw him ping the ball up of his heel and meet it with his outstretched left leg after a 180 degree spin.
Barca beat Bayern Munich to Dest’s signature and paid £19m up front for him with an extra £4.5m in add-ons while his release clause is set at more than £360m.
He takes the No2 shirt vacated by Nelson Semedo, who joined Wolves in September.

And Barcelona announced the deal with a special video on Twitter.

Captioned “Shhhhh…” the clip showed Dest walking out of the tunnel, up the steps on to the Nou Camp pitch.
With the ground empty, the only noise in the video is Dest’s footsteps and whispering: “Wow… unbelievable,” as he takes it all in.
Ajax, in typical classy fashion, replied: “Take care of him.”
A second video released by the LaLiga giants captured the new signing making his way to the stadium, in the changing room and then in his kit on the pitch attempting the skills with the ball.
Born in Almere, Netherlands, Dest joined the Ajax academy nine years ago and progressed through the ranks before making his first-team debut in July.
Martin Braithwate previously went viral when his Barca unveiling kick-ups were equally disappointing.
