Wijnaldum to leave Liverpool for free at end of season with Barca interested

GEORGINIO WIJNALDUM’s rumoured Anfield departure is on hold until next year, according to reports.
It is thought the Dutch ace is unlikely to drop down Liverpool’s pecking order this term despite the arrival of Thiago Alcantara.

The Athletic claims the Netherlands midfielder is expected to depart as a free agent next summer.
The 29-year-old has been a target for Barcelona with Dutch compatriot Ronald Koeman rebuilding the side following the tumultuous end to their season last term.
The Barca boss has reportedly identified the Liverpool star, and fellow Dutchman Memphis Depay, 26, as priorities for his team who lost their LaLiga crown to Real Madrid.

However, the Sunday Mirror revealed the Nou Camp giants have been blocked by LaLiga in their bids to seal transfer moves.
Bosses of Spain’s top football division have issued strict guidelines to clubs in a bid to manage the financial effect of the Covid-19 crisis.
It means Barcelona – who have a whopping £510million-a-year wage bill – may have to sell players in order to raise funds to buy new replacements
Wiljnaldum, who played for the Netherlands during Keoman’s tenure as Dutch national boss, has made 143 Premier League appearances for Liverpool.

And, the Anfield ace who netted four times in 37 league games last term, has won a Champions League and Premiership titles and one UEFA Super Cup with the club.

This season Jurgen Klopp’s side have beefed up their midfield ranks with the £25million buy of former Bayern Munich star Alcantara.
And the 29-years-old made a positive impression following his solid second-half sub showing during the Prem champions’ away win against Chelsea on Sunday.
However, it is thought the arrival of the Italy-born Spain international is unlikely to affect Wijnaldum’s status in the squad with the midfielder highly-rated by Klopp.

Morata has cost £190m in transfers and won 16 trophies in three leagues… so why is Juventus new boy considered a flop?

ALVARO MORATA is set for the fifth major move of a career that includes 16 trophies – so why is he considered a flop?
Spells at Chelsea, Real Madrid, Juventus and Atletico Madrid have all seen the Spanish striker display his best and worst assets.

    3

Now heading back to Turin on an initial loan deal, Morata is set to become one of football’s all-time most expensive players with total fees clocking £190million.
At first glance, the 27-year-old’s record is hugely impressive.

In over 400 career games, he has notched almost 150 goals in three different countries.

A pair of Champions League winners’ medals sit alongside his two Serie A crowns, two LaLiga titles, and, among others, an FA Cup.
And yet, he is rarely considered in lists of the world’s top strikers, has struggled to gain an affinity with fans around the continent, and has continually been allowed to leave ambitious clubs.
    JOURNEYMAN
Football fans lust for loyalty, understandably, and in turn find the player who constantly moves clubs to be something of a nomad.
Some top players earn a positive reputation in this regard, such as Zlatan Ibrahimovic and 14-club sensation Christian Vieri.

Others, including Morata and Nicolas Anelka, see their reputations suffer as a result.
In heading to Juventus, the forward will complete his fourth move in just over four years.
With little long-lasting impact at either of his clubs, Morata is often relegated to the label of short-term fix.
As such, he struggled to acquire hero status at a number of his clubs.

I was very upset by the opinion of the people in England. I think they caught me in the middle of everything.
    Alvaro Morata

Initially popular in Real Madrid, he rejoined the Spanish giants as the only major signing in 2016 and fans were less than enthusiastic.
A year later, he left for Chelsea where, after scoring seven goals in his first eight games, things went sour.
Morata didn’t score a league goal between Boxing Day and April 1, embodying the Blues’ decline from champions to agitated also-rans labouring outside the top-four.
The atmosphere at Stamford Bridge became no less toxic when Maurizio Sarri took over in 2018 and Morata’s middling form saw him criticised further, before a loan move to Atletico.
Even in Spain, playing for his boyhood club, there were dissenters with a handful of ultras chanting, “Less Morata, more Borja Garces” ahead of his arrival.
Most at the Wanda Metropolitano did love the attacker, it must be said.
    ANTI-CLIMAX
Accusations that Morata struggles in big games have also been levelled, with both of his Champions League final wins coming via the bench.
He wasn’t trusted to start Atletico’s quarter-final exit in August having performed badly as they crashed out to Juve the year before.
This was less of an issue in Italy, where he notched vital Coppa Italia goals to seal two more winners’ medals, although his strike in the 2015 Champions League final could not prevent defeat to Barcelona.
And yet, Morata can hold up plenty of mitigating circumstances to explain his struggles.
Ousting Karim Benzema at Real Madrid has been an impossible job for several top-level attackers in the past decade.
Even as Real’s reserve striker, he notched 20 goals in his year back at the Bernabeu – en route to a league-and-Europe double.

Managing to better a one-in-three goal-per-game rate at Los Blancos, Chelsea and Atletico is also no mean feat for a player who largely relies on his work rate and physicality outside the box.
The problems he encountered in West London were also not all of his own making.
A nightmare back injury ruined his final 12 months at Chelsea and the discontent around the club had roots far beyond one striker’s form.
The slatings Morata regularly received were allowed to get on top of the player, and he admitted to Goal last year: “I had lost confidence in myself previously.

“I was very upset by the opinion of the people in England. I think they caught me in the middle of everything.”
As the game’s most cherished journeyman, Zlatan Ibrahimovic had only bagged eight trophies in two leagues by Morata’s age.
At only 27, there is plenty of time for Morata to earn the reputation his goal tally, trophy cabinet and transfer fees would suggest he deserves.

Real Madrid fire bitter parting shot at Gareth Bale despite Tottenham signing helping them to FOUR Champions League wins

REAL MADRID fired a bitter parting shot as Gareth Bale returned to Tottenham in a stunning loan deal.
Spurs announced the signing of Bale – seven years after he left to join Madrid – and defender Sergio Reguilon.

Real Madrid’s brief farewell to four-time Champions League winner Bale

As the Bernabeu pair both linked up in London, they were given very different goodbye messages from the LaLiga champions.

On Bale’s transfer, Real’s 45-word statement said: “Real Madrid CF. and Tottenham Hotspur FC have agreed to the loan of Gareth Bale for next season, until 30 June, 2021.
“Our club wishes the best of luck to a player who is part of one of the most successful periods of our history.”

But Madrid said following Reguilon’s move: “Real Madrid CF and Tottenham Hotspur FC have agreed a deal for the transfer of Sergio Reguilon.
“Our club would like to thank Sergio Reguilon for his commitment, his professionalism and his exemplary behaviour throughout his career at Real Madrid and wishes him the best of luck at his new club.”

    8

Sergio Reguilon was thanked for his “commitment, professionalism and exemplary behaviour”

Reguilon played just 22 matches for Los Blancos while Bale played more than 250 and won FOUR Champions Leagues.
Bale has joined Spurs on a season-long loan, with his Madrid contract expiring next summer, meaning he can make the move permanent on a free.

Reguilon on the other hand arrives in a £27million deal, with Manchester United also showing prior interest.
Bale scored 105 goals and added 68 assists for Madrid in just 251 games.
But he returns for his second spell in North London after being frozen out of Madrid’s squad.
Quoting his tweet from 2013 when he left Spurs, Bale announced on social media: “To all the Spurs fans, after 7 years, I’m back!”.

    8

The 31-year-old completed his medical in Spain after saying goodbye to his Madrid team-mates.
Madrid have been keen to get the Welshman’s huge £650,000-per-week wages off the book.
It is understood that Spurs will pay 50 per cent – with the LaLiga champions covering the other half.

Man City transfer blow as Sevilla confirm snubbed bid for Kalidou Koulibaly alternative Jules Kounde

SEVILLA have confirmed they turned down a bid for Manchester City target Jules Kounde.
Manager Pep Guardiola sees the French defender as an alternative after talks over signing Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly hit a brick wall.

    2

But Kounde, 21, has a release clause of around £68million in his contract and Sevilla are so far playing hardball.
That means City will have to pay somewhere close to that figure if they want to land him in the current window.
Sevilla sporting director Monchi said: “It’s true that in the last days we have received interest from a club for Kounde.

“And that club has transmitted an offer to us, which has been valued by the management committee and rejected.”
Reports in Spain say City have already agreed personal terms with Kounde, who only joined Sevilla from Bordeaux in July 2019.
Monchi said: “If they’re going to make another bid, then we’ll listen and answer again.
“But I doubt he has agreed personal terms as he has a contract.”

Koulibaly was City’s first choice but Napoli are holding out for around £80m for the Senegal skipper.

Real Madrid ‘offered’ Edinson Cavani in free transfer but must fork out £120k-a-week for striker’s wages

REAL MADRID have been offered ex-Paris Saint-Germain star Edinson Cavani on a free transfer, according to reports.
The Uruguayan is currently a free agent, having left PSG upon the expiry of his contract earlier this summer.

Cavani, 33, elected not to stay for the club’s resumed Champions League campaign as Thiago Silva did.
But he is a PSG legend regardless, having scored 200 goals for the club – more than any other player.
According to Marca, Madrid chiefs are weighing up a move after being offered the prolific striker – whose wages won’t be cheap.

They claim that Cavani wants a minimum of £120,000-a-week and a two-year contract.
Real Madrid may decide to pounce, however, after seeing their current strikeforce draw a blank against Real Sociedad in an underwhelming opening to their title defence.
Forwards Luka Jovic and Borja Mayoral were both unused substitutes and could be moved on before October 5.
Cavani is currently training alone back in Uruguay as he awaits his next move.

Madrid chiefs are feeling the pinch of the coronavirus pandemic, and have not made a single first-team signing this summer.

But having shifted the likes of Gareth Bale and James Rodriguez in recent weeks, president Florentino Perez may feel that he can stretch to recruiting Cavani.
According to ESPN, however, they will have overcome interest from Juventus.
Manager Zinedine Zidane opted to freshen up his side with youth against Sociedad, with a number of talented youngsters featuring.
These included Vinicius Junior, Martin Odegaard and Rodrygo in the starting XI – while ex-Tranmere academy starlet Marvin Park, 20, was handed a debut.
None of them could get on the scoresheet, however, as the match finished 0-0.

Juventus in Morata transfer talks for £9m loan and £41m option to buy with Luis Suarez joining Atletico as replacement

JUVENTUS have reportedly turned to Alvaro Morata after failing with a bid for Barcelona striker Luis Suarez.
Passport issues mean the Uruguayan will not be able to complete his £13.5million move to Juventus before the October 5 transfer deadline.

That has forced the Serie A champions to look elsewhere with Edin Dzeko and Moise Kean among those on their wishlist.
But another former Juve star, Morata, is now on their radar.
According to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, the club have offered £9million to take the Atletico Madrid forward on loan.

A further £41m fee is on the table to make that deal permanent at a later date.
Such a move would reportedly enable Atletico to swoop for Suarez.
Diego Simeone’s side were linked with the 33-year-old over the weekend as his move to Juventus collapsed.
Suarez has been told by new Barcelona coach Ronald Koeman that his time at the Camp Nou is over.

Reports on Monday suggested his contract had been terminated, allowing him to leave for free.

Barcelona are keen to shift some of their highest earners off a huge wage bill
A tally of 21 goals and 12 assists appeared to show the veteran forward’s worth before the Dutchman’s arrival, which is heralding a major clearout.
Like Barcelona, Atletico are hard hit by the coronavirus crisis and must sell before they can buy this autumn.
Morata, 27, cost the Madrid club £58m when signing from Chelsea in July, following an 18-month loan spell.
A productive two-year stint at Juventus earlier in his career saw the Spaniard win a pair of Scudetto titles and reach the 2015 Champions League final.
And Morata has come into view after Suarez’s Italy switch was binned.
Juventus sporting director Fabio Paratici told Sky Sports Italia on Sunday: “Suarez can be removed from that list.

    3

Morata was a big hit in Turin during his first stint at JuventusCredit: AP:Associated Press

“The time it takes to get the passport is longer than the transfer deadline or the moment we can hand in the Champions League squad lists.
“We evaluated the Suarez option when it was proposed to us. He was in the process of getting Italian citizenship, so we evaluated the possibility of registering him in time.
“It is not possible, so he was never really close.”

Martin Odegaard makes first Real Madrid appearance since replacing Cristiano Ronaldo in 2015 to cap amazing resurgence

MARTIN ODEGAARD made only his third Real Madrid appearance on Sunday night – over five years after his debut.
In May 2015, the Norwegian starlet became the club’s youngest-ever player when replacing Cristiano Ronaldo off the bench.

As much as anything, the decision to play Odegaard at just 16 years and 157 days old was a symbolic one.
Clubs around the world had competed for the attacking midfielder’s signature for months before he opted to leave Stromsgodset for Madrid.
Arriving in Real’s Castilla reserve team, managed by Zinedine Zidane, the youngster was told to train with the senior side but initially struggled.
Eyebrows were raised at giving the teenager such prominence, in particular by Carlo Ancelotti.

In 2016, the Real boss at the time of Odegaard’s arrival said: “The president decided that he would play three games with the first-team as a public relations exercise.
“He could be the best player in the world, but I don’t care because he was not a player who I asked for. That signing was to do with PR.”
A better 2015/16 campaign saw Odegaard earn his second senior outing and he left for a quiet 18-month spell with Heerenveen.
Further loans at Vitesse and Real Sociedad saw the player finally push towards the monumental potential many believed he had.

Madrid fought hard to bring Odegaard back to the Bernabeu, successfully recalling him midway through a two-year deal in San Sebastian.
And Odegaard started against his old club as they began their LaLiga title defence on Sunday night.
A 0-0 draw left Los Blancos with questions over their attack, with Vinicius and Rodrygo failing to convince.
Odegaard was replaced after 69 minutes as Zidane, without injured pair Eden Hazard and Marco Asensio, snubbed Luka Jovic to bring debutants Marvin Park and Sergio Arribas off the bench.
Speaking after the game, the 21-year-old insisted he has a lot to learn from the experienced stars around him, with Luka Modric and Toni Kroos also starting.
He told Movistar+: “I understand them well but it’s always difficult at the start.

    3

“They are players at an incredible level and that makes it easier for me.”
He added: “I feel good but we’re missing the win.
“It doesn’t leave me very happy, although it’s good to play for Real Madrid again. It was a game against friends and good people.”

And after selling Diogo Jota to Liverpool for £45million, the club have the funds to spend big.

SunSport reported on Saturday how the Blaugrana are looking to bring in Ajax ace Sergino Dest with Semedo on his way out of the Nou Camp for around £40m.
Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has claimed that it is Wolves that are in pole position to secure the 26-year-old’s services.

He also revealed how Chilean midfielder Arturo Vidal will be joining Semedo out the door in Catalonia.
Romano tweeted: “Wolves are ‘one step away’ from signing Nelson Semedo.
“New bid submitted yesterday and Barcelona are now ready to accept.
“Work in progress also on personal terms to be agreed.

“On next hours Barca are gonna sell Semedo to #Wolves and Vidal to #Inter. Here we go soon!”
