Diego Costa teases Luis Suarez as he jokes ‘I’ll do the fighting, he can do the biting’ at Atletico Madrid

DIEGO COSTA has teased new Atletico Madrid strike partner Luis Suarez by joking: “I’ll do the fighting, he can do the biting.”
Barcelona discard Suarez netted twice on his Atletico debut after coming on for ex-Chelsea bad-boy Costa in Sunday’s 6-1 LaLiga win over Granada.

And having been banned three times for biting, the Uruguay legend is one of the few superstar with a record as controversial, combative and confrontational as Costa’s.
But Spain hardman Costa, 31, is amazed Barca let the 33-year-old go.
Incoming Nou Camp boss Ronaldo Koeman made it clear Suarez was no longer wanted when he took over following the 8-2 Champions League humiliation against Bayern Munich last month.

CHEWY SUAREZ: HIS 3 BITE BANS

Here’s how strike legend Luis Suarez brought shame upon himself THREE times.

    NOVEMBER 2010: AJAX 0 PSV EINDHOVEN 0
Ajax skipper Suarez was suspended for seven games after his bite on PSV midfielder Otman Bakkal.
    APRIL 2013: L’POOL 2 CHELSEA 2
Most famously, Suarez took a sneaky comp on the arm of Branislav Ivanovic in the box, sparking shock as much as outrage from the Chelsea defender during the Premier League draw.
He escaped punishment on the field for the off-the-ball incident and even bagged Liverpool’s late point-saver.
But the FA later banned him for ten matches for violent conduct
    JUNE 2014: ITALY 0 URUGUAY 1
Suarez was suspended from football for four months after biting Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini in Uruguay’s 1-0 win at the 2014 World Cup.
The-then Liverpool attacker was also banned for the first nine matches of the following Premier League season and fined 100,000 Swiss francs (around £65,680).

Costa said: “We are very lucky to have Luis, I don’t understand how Barca could have let him leave.

“He is very good, one of us can do the fighting and the other can do the biting.

    DIE OF SHAME: COSTA CONTROVERSIES

The burly attacker has been beset with dubious exchanges – here’s just a few from his three-year stint at Stamford Bridge.

    JANUARY 2015: STAMP ON CAN
The new Chelsea frontman was banned for three matches after appearing to bite Liverpool midfielder Emre Can.
    SEPTEMBER 2015: ARSENAL FLARE-UP
Gunners’ boss Arene Wenger Costa blasted Costa’s “disgusting” behaviour as he seemed to slap and jostle with Gunners’ defender Laurent Koscielny.  Arsenal’s Gabriel was sent off amid ‘kicking’ claims as he too clashed with the Spaniard.
    OCTOBER 2015: ‘KICK ON SKRTEL’
Costa appeared to catch Liverpool centre-back Martin Skrtel with a kick in the midriff.

“He’s going to help us with lots of goals as well as his warrior spirit and his hunger to win trophies.”
Costa netted against Granada before Suarez replaced him on 70 minutes to score twice and add an assist.
But while Atleti hope Suarez can fire them to their first title since 2014, Costa’s future in his third spell at the club is under threat following patchy form.

Bournemouth trying to hijack Rodrigo Riquelme transfer from Atletico Madrid to Reading as David Brooks replacement

BOURNEMOUTH are trying to hijack Spanish winger Rodrigo Riquelme’s move from Atletico Madrid to Reading.
The Cherries want tricky Riquelme to join them as a potential replacement for Welsh star David Brooks who is available at £50million.

    1

Riquelme was due to join Reading where his agent has strong links, but now Bournemouth have come in and want to tie up the deal quickly.
Atletico want Riquelme to play after he starred for their B team last season. And Jason Tindall’s side could provide that chance if Brooks goes.
Brooks has been a target for Leicester while Manchester United are also keeping an eye on him in case they cannot land Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund.
Bournemouth are looking to boost quality in the squad after having to let some big-hitters leave this summer following their relegation.

Nathan Ake was sold to Manchester City last month for a whopping £41million.
Senior players Callum Wilson and Ryan Fraser both went to Newcastle, with the latter going on a free.
Fraser refused to sign a new contract beyond June after the season had to be extended due to lockdown.

And he then rubbed salt in the wounds by suggesting he could have kept them up had he stayed.

Bournemouth have also lost the likes of Jordan Ibe and Harry Arter.
Long-serving players Charlie Daniels, Simon Francis and Andrew Surman were all released.

Man City prepared to offer Oleksandr Zinchenko to Barcelona for shock transfer as Eric Garcia transfer chase continues

MANCHESTER City are prepared to offer Oleksander Zinchenko to Barcelona in a shock transfer, according to reports.
The rumours come as the wrangling over Eric Garcia by the two clubs continues.

Zinchenko has become an important squad player for Pep Guardiola’s Man City but reports from Spain suggest they are open to selling him.
Mundo Deportivo report that City may even offer the Ukrainian player to the club.
Barcelona, undergoing a massive rebuild, are reportedly interested but no negotiations have begun yet.
Zinchenko, 23, has played a versatile role at the Etihad since he arrived in 2016.

Although he is classed as a midfielder, City fans are more used to seeing him filling in at left-back for Benjamin Mendy.
His youth and flexibility could be attractive to Ronald Koeman as he slims down the numbers in his squad.
Zinchenko is yet to appear this season because of a muscle injury but he played 25 times for the club last season across all competitions.
He was absent for yesterday’s 5-2 defeat against Leicester where Eric Garcia gave away a penalty and was run ragged by Jamie Vardy.

    3

Jules Kounde has been linked with a move as City look to fix their dodgy defenceCredit: Getty Images – Getty
Garcia has been the centre of a transfer link to Barcelona and he could be off if City are able to bring in a replacement.
The club are rumoured to be interested in Sevilla’s Jules Kounde and look close to securing Benfica’s Ruben Dias.

That deal could open the door for Garcia to leave, with the defender having so far refused to sign a new contract and instead allowing the final year of his deal to run down.
He would then depart for Barca on a free next summer, reports suggest.
This is despite claims that City have weighed up a take it or leave it £14million offer to force the Spanish club’s hand. More

Barcelona 4 Villarreal 0: Lionel Messi and Ansu Fati guide Ronald Koeman to resounding opening day win

BARCELONA thumped Villarreal 4-0 to get Ronald Koeman’s reign off to a winning start with Spanish wonderkid Ansu Fati running the show.
Koeman’s Barcelona started their league campaign off against Unai Emery’s Villarreal at the Nou Camp.

    4

Ansu Fati started the 2020-21 campaign in style, scoring a first half double against Villarreal

Lionel Messi started the game despite his summer bust-up with the Barcelona chiefs, which saw him try and force a move away from the club.
The Barca captain has been critical of the club’s current regime, sending shots in his farewell message to close friend Luis Suarez who was forced out of the club joining league rivals Atletico Madrid.
Nonetheless, Messi and co resumed business as usual as they made a tired Villarreal side pay.
Villarreal were caught sleeping on the job early on as Ansu Fati scored Barca’s first goal of their league campaign.

The winger was picked out by Alba on the penalty spot and the youngster side footed the ball into the top left corner.
Fati would double Barca’s lead just four minutes later when a swift counter attack landed at his feet, he made no mistake rolling it past the helpless Asenjo between the sticks.

    4

Messi would later join in on the act after Fati won a penalty on the half hour mark, Fati selflessly handed the penalty to the captain and Messi slammed it home.
Villarreal’s evening would then go from bad to worse as Messi was dropping deeper and deeper to pull the strings.

The Barca No10 floated a wonderful ball into the penalty area in search of Sergio Busquets, and in sheer panic, Pau Torres put the ball in the back of his own net.
Referee Guillermo Cuadra Fernandez came to Villarreal’s rescue with the half-time whistle, giving the visitors a much needed break and a chance to regroup.
Barca and Villarreal didn’t exactly treat us to a blockbuster second half, it was an unusually slow display from the hosts and Villarreal failed to capitalise.
Fireworks being set off outside the ground proved to be the most entertaining part of the second half, with the Barcelona skyline being treated to the wonderful colours of blue and red.
The display outside would go on for a good 10 minutes, diverting the attention from the slow and boring game of football which was taking place inside the empty Nou Camp.
Messi himself looked up in awe as the sky lit up on a night where he and his apprentice Fati tore their opponents a new one.

Koeman was visibly happy when the final whistle went, and more importantly Messi was smiling again.
If Barca are going to succeed this season they need Messi to play with a smile on his face, and hopefully in his potential final season at the club, he’ll sign off in style.

Atletico Madrid 6 Granada 1: Luis Suarez scores TWICE on debut with Arsenal transfer target Thomas Partey benched

LUIS SUAREZ bagged TWO goals after coming off the bench to make his Atletico Madrid debut.
The Uruguayan was booted out of Barcelona much to the dismay of close pal Lionel Messi.

But the Catalan giants’ loss was Atleti’s gain for only £5.5million and Suarez wasted no time in making his mark in the Spanish capital, also grabbing an assist.
He immediately put Marcos Llorente away to score Atleti’s fourth after coming on as a second-half sub.
And it took him just 15 minutes to open his own account in his new colours when he rattled the net with a towering header in the 85th minute.

Things got even better for the former Liverpool man when he notched his second in eight minutes in stoppage time to complete a 6-1 rout at the Wanda Metropolitano.
It was the perfect start to the new league campaign for Diego Simeone’s side.
Incredibly Suarez became the first player to score and assist on his LaLiga debut for Atleti this CENTURY and the first to bag two on debut.
Suarez wasn’t the only big name who started the game on the bench with defensive midfielder Thomas Partey also missing from the starting XI.

Simeone’s decision to bench Arsental transfer target Partey sent Gooners wild thinking it may be a sign he is on his way to North London.

Ex-Chelsea hardman Diego Costa had set Atleti on their way with a ninth-minute header and the side could even afford to see Saul Niguez’s first-half penalty saved.
Angel Correa and Joao Felix slotted the other goals after the break with Jorge Molina Vidal netting a late consolation for Granada either side of Suarez’s debut strikes.
It was the perfect end to an emotional week for Suarez as he broke down in tears bidding farewell to the Nou Camp.

Arsenal fans reckon Thomas Partey WILL complete transfer after Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone benches him vs Granada

ARSENAL fans are convinced Thomas Partey will join them after he was left on the bench for Atletico Madrid.
The Gunners have been chasing the midfielder all summer – but he has a huge release clause of £45million.

Partey, 27, is said to be interested in a move to the Premier League with Arsenal.
And fans believe a deal is in the pipeline after he was dropped for Atletico.
Diego Simeone left him on the sidelines for Sunday’s LaLiga game against Granada.
After the line-up was confirmed, one Arsenal fan said: “Thomas Partey is on the Atletico bench and he wasn’t in their kit photoshoot either.
“Something is definitely happening behind the scenes.”
Another supporter said: “Partey on the bench for Atletico is good news.”
And one tweeted: “Thomas Partey on the bench today as Atletico play Grandad. Could that mean something? #AFC #Transfers.”

One claimed: “Thomas Partey is on the subs bench today, that’s it he’s coming to Arsenal.”

Partey was stuck on the bench until he was put on to replace Yannick Carrasco in the 71st minute.
Atletico won the match 6-1 – with the final two goals coming from new boy Luis Suarez.
Partey has been with Atletico Madird since 2012 – but he has turned down a new deal with the club.

Arsenal have not been able to get the Spanish side to lower their demands for him.
But Atletico’s reported interest of Arsenal’s Lucas Torreira has led to talks over a swap deal.
Simeone’s side are keen to sign Torreira on loan – but the Gunners want to offload him permanently.
Arsenal are also set to step up their pursuit for Houssem Aouar with a £45m bid.
Arteta has already had an initial £36m bid turned down by French club Lyon.

Arsenal should make £50m Dele Alli transfer offer from rivals Tottenham to add midfield goals, says Ray Parlour More
