Luka Modric determined to stay at Real Madrid and willing to take pay CUT to stay for tenth season with club at 35

REAL MADRID midfielder Luka Modric is reportedly willing to take a pay cut in order to secure a new deal at the Bernabeu.
The 35-year-old – who joined the LaLiga champions from Tottenham for £30million in 2012 – is in the final year of his contract in Spain.

And the Croatian international is desperate to carry on his love affair with the club after nine trophy-laden seasons.

According to Marca, Modric is keen to retire at Real having developed a special affection for the team, fans and the city.
They state that the 2018 World Cup runner-up is prepared to accept a lower wage in order to secure a new contract.

He and his family are settled in Madrid having built their life there.
However Real are yet to make a decision on his future as they look to sign Rennes wonderkid Eduardo Camavinga next summer.
Meanwhile Manchester United star Paul Pogba has revealed he would love to play for Real before he retires.
Speaking of his future earlier this week, Modric told Cadena Cope’s ‘El Partidazo’: “Of course I want stay at Real Madrid, but it doesn’t depend on just me.

“It depends on what the club wants and the coach as well.

“I feel good and my desire would be to finish my career at Real Madrid if possible, although I don’t want to be a problem for Real Madrid or for the coach.
“We have a good relationship and I am sure that we will come to an agreement so that I stay or go to another club.
“Real Madrid is my home and it’s my ninth season and I’m very happy.
“We will see what will happen, I don’t like talking about hypothetical situations as I still haven’t spoken with the president.”
Modric has featured in 347 games for Madrid, scoring on 22 occasions.

Juventus ready to hijack Real Madrid’s transfer for Camavinga with Pirlo desperate to build team around wonderkid

JUVENTUS are ready to rival Real Madrid for Eduardo Camavinga, according to reports.
The French midfielder has shot to fame with Stade Rennais and was widely tipped to move to a European giant this summer.

However, Camavinga committed to staying in Ligue 1 ahead of his side’s shot at the Champions League group stage.
Several media outlets from across the continent are predicting a bidding war for the youngster’s signature at the end of the season.
According to Tuttosport, Juventus will make a serious play for Camavinga, who turns 18 next month.

The Old Lady are said to be developing a strong relationship with Rennes, having sent defender Daniele Rugani to Brittany on loan earlier this month.
Furthermore, new Juve boss Andrea Pirlo reportedly wants to make the midfielder a central part of his new, young side.
Arthur Melo, Dejan Kulusevski, Federico Chiesa and Weston McKennie were all brought in during the transfer window, with Gonzalo Higuain and Blaise Matuidi among those leaving.
And Camavinga is seen as one of Europe’s hottest teenage talents, with 49 appearances for Rennes already under his belt.

After making his France debut last month, he opened the scoring in Les Bleus’ 7-1 rout of Ukraine on Wednesday.

Watch Eduardo Camavinga, 17, score stunning overhead kick on first start for France
Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United have all been tipped to bid for the Angola-born ace.
Having made zero signings during the autumn, Real are reportedly formulating a triple swoop for French stars next year.
Along with Camavinga, long-term target Kylian Mbappe and Dayot Upamecano have been named as key targets.

Luis Suarez claims Barcelona treatment made him cry and hurt family which is why Messi publicly leapt to his defence

LUIS SUAREZ revealed he was reduced to tears after being frozen out of the Barcelona squad.
The Uruguayan striker was told by new manager Ronald Koeman that he was not in his plans for the upcoming season.

As a result, the heartbroken 33-year-old was excluded from their pre-season and TRAINING matches, later joining Spanish rivals Atletico Madrid on a free transfer.
But Suarez – who became Barca’s third all-time top scorer with 198 goals – and his family were left emotionally hurt by the squad snub.
He said: ”Those days were very difficult. I cried because of what I was having to go through.
“I didn’t take the club’s message that they were looking for a solution for me in order to mix things up very well.

“I was hurt most of all by the way they did things, because one has to accept it when a cycle comes to an end.
“Not everyone knows what happened but the worst thing was going to training and being sent to a different group from everyone else because I was not allowed to play in practice matches.
“My wife could see how unhappy I was and she wanted to see me smile again and when the chance came to join Atletico I had no doubts.”
Suarez looked to be leaving the Nou Camp with close friend Lionel Messi, who wanted to walk out on Barca for free.

But to avoid dragging the club through the courts, Messi confirmed he would stay, with 12 months left on his contract.
He still hit out at the Nou Camp board for the way they treated Suarez, who would go on to score twice on his Atletico debut.
Suarez said: “I wasn’t surprised that Messi supported me publicly because I know him too well.
“He knew the pain I was going through, the feeling that I was being kicked out was what hurt me the most.
“The way they did things was not right and Leo knows how me and my family suffered.”

Premier League vs NFL vs NBA vs LaLiga: Battle of most-watched sports leagues in the world and their staggering revenue

THE NFL generated nearly twice as much revenue as the Premier League last season.
Incredible statistics have helped to solve the age-old debate over which league is the biggest in the world.

    1

Here’s how the four leagues compare in terms of revenue generated

There are four main leagues from three different sports that have made the shortlist.
These are the Premier League, Spain’s La Liga, the National Basketball Association (NBA) and the American football’s National Football League (NFL).
SunSport have decided to compare them in terms of revenue and attendance figures.
    Premier League
England’s top-flight is the wealthiest league in world football – but it has a long way to go until it closes the gap on the NFL.

Stats, provided by SQAF show the Premier League generated a revenue of £5.49billion during the 2018-19 campaign.
And the league’s attendance figures were lower than that of the NFL and NBA.
Around 14.5million fans attended matches last season – averaging out at 38.168 per game.
But supporters are not allowed in the grounds this season due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Ever since the post-lockdown restart in June, all matches have been able through either Sky, BT, Amazon prime or the BBC.
And Prem clubs are now poised to agree to non-televised matches being available to all fans.

    La Liga
Spain’s top-tier generated a revenue of just over £4bn for the 2017-18 season.
That is the lowest figure out of all four of the league’s in question.
La Liga offers fans the chance to watch the likes of Barcelona star Lionel Messi in action.
But their attendance record for that season sits at 10.2million.
    NFL
The 2018-19 season was a memorable year for the Toronto Raptors as they became champions for the first time in their history.
And the NFL raked in over £10bn in revenue in 2019 – which is the most out of any league in the world.
A huge chunk of this fortune comes from the mind blowing TV deals that are in place.
ESPN pay the league £11.72bn for rights to Monday Night Football until 2021.
And Fox have been showing Thursday Night Football for the past two years for a fee of £2.5bn.
Average ticket prices have shot through the roof and merchandising deals are at an all-time high.
And their mindblowing attendance figures show 17million fans made their way to matches last year.
Patrick Mahomes is said to be the highest-paid player in the league, with an average annual salary of £41m.
    NBA
The NBA has the highest attendance figures on record.
Statistics show that basketball games during the 2018-19 were attended by 22million fans.
However, their revenue produced last season of £5.72bn.

And before the game, his international manager revealed he is pleased the 33-year-old superstar remained at the Nou Camp despite an explosive transfer saga.
Scaloni said: “I spoke to Leo when everything was resolved and I saw him calm.
“Since his arrival, we’ve been able to have a long chat.
“He is happy to be here. He’s now well in his club.

“All we wanted from a distance was for everything to be resolved and for him to play and to be fit.
“For us, it’s positive that he stayed because he was able to play immediately, he knows the club, but in terms of decisions, we don’t get involved in that, we don’t step in the player’s territory.”
Messi sensationally revealed he wanted to leave the Catalan giants in the summer.
Fresh from the 8-2 Champions League humiliation at the hands of Bayern Munich, Messi revealed he wanted to pursue a new challenge.

Barca’s skipper faced more hardship when new boss Ronald Koeman booted best pal and neighbour Luis Suarez out of the club.
Suarez joined Atletico Madrid for a bargain £5.5million and Messi publicly bashed the club saying his friend ‘deserved better’.

Man Utd star Paul Pogba confirms he’d like Real Madrid transfer ‘one day’ but insists he’s happy at Old Trafford

PAUL POGBA has reiterated he ‘dreams of playing for Real Madrid one day’ as he cast further doubt over his Manchester United future.
The Frenchman, however, did insist he is happy at Old Trafford for now with the transfer window closing earlier this week.

But Pogba opened another can of worms surrounding his club career while away on international duty.
The midfielder, 27, said: “I am at Manchester. We know that this has been spoken about a lot and I have not [spoken about it].
“I heard a lot of noise that I was going to leave and I was going to leave to clubs left and right.
“Today, I am still at Manchester United and I am fighting to try to take the club even higher.

“We have all heard these things that have been said. What to respond?

“Yes, all footballers would like to play for Real Madrid. Maybe it is a dream. It is a dream for me, why not one day?
“As I have said, I am at Manchester United and I like my club.
“I am performing at Manchester United, I am enjoying myself and I want to do everything I can to get the club back to where it deserves to be.

“I am going to give my maximum, like my teammates. I prefer to concentrate on football and on returning to fitness.”

Pogba revealed in 2019 he is ready for a new challenge with a switch to Real the most likely destination for the midfielder.
Zinedine Zidane would love to work with the £89million United No6 at the Bernabeu – but after a season disrupted by injuries and coronavirus, he stayed put this summer.
Pogba’s agent Mino Raiola previously suggested a transfer was very much on the cards for his client with Juventus linked with their former star.
And the World Cup winner insisted there have been no discussions over a new contract at Old Trafford despite his current deal expiring next summer – although United do have a 12-month extension option.

Nobody has said anything to me. I have not spoken with Ed Woodward. I have not been spoken to about an extension.
    Paul Pogba

Pogba, who has started all three Premier League games this season and scored in the Carabao Cup win over Brighton, added: “Nobody has said anything to me. I have not spoken with Ed Woodward.
“I have not been spoken to about an extension. For the moment, I am at Manchester United and I am thinking above all to hit my top form.
“I think that there will be a moment where the club comes to speak to me and maybe offers me something, or not.
“For the moment, nothing has happened. I cannot tell you something that I know nothing about.
“I am really thinking about me, to come back well and to produce great performances for my club.”

Wijnaldum claims Barcelona transfer interest ‘was not that serious’ and hints at new Liverpool contract

GEORGINIO WIJNALDUM has insisted his rumoured move to Barcelona was never likely to happen.
The LaLiga giants were heavily linked with Wijnaldum throughout the transfer window but he stayed put at Liverpool.

    2

With the Dutchman’s contract up at the end of a season, a move to the Nou Camp is still reportedly on offer but he believes a fresh deal at Liverpool is also possible.
Wijnaldum told reporters: “I don’t think [the interest] was that serious.
“Otherwise you would have read a bit more, or more would have happened. There was nothing precise.

“The way it looks now, I will stay in Liverpool.
“My contract is valid for another 10 months and that can change.
“You never know in football. We will see what happens.”
It had been reported that Wijnaldum was leaving Liverpool to make way for Thiago Alcantara.

But the former Newcastle star, 29, has completed every minute of the Reds’ title defence thus far, including the recent 7-2 defeat by Aston Villa.

    2

Meanwhile, Barcelona completed a relatively quiet market in terms of incomings, with only Sergino Dest purchased during the window.
They shifted Ivan Rakitic, Luis Suarez, Nelson Semedo and Rafinha off their wage bill, but failed with a deadline day bid for Memphis Depay.
The £22million deal was reliant on Ousmane Dembele leaving the Catalans and, with Manchester United not interested in a permanent deal for the winger, Depay stayed at Lyon.
