Barcelona slip to embarrassing defeat at Cadiz to heap more pressure on boss Ronald Koeman

RONALD KOEMAN’S Barcelona reign hit a new low as sub Alvaro Negredo took just 44 SECONDS to clinch a historic win for promoted Cadiz.
Ex-Manchester City striker Alvaro Negredo punished a night of shocking Barca defending to leave the Spanish giants 12 points off LaLiga leaders Atletico Madrid.

Under-fire Koeman played for Barcelona the last time Cadiz beat them – in 1991.
And the manner of this 2-1 defeat ripped away what had seemed a mini-revival of six wins in seven games.
To make the evening worse, fierce rivals Real Madrid ended a three-match winless run in LaLiga – an own goal from Sevilla keeper Yassine Bounou lifting them six points above Koeman’s men.
Barca have won all five of their Champions League group matches but Lionel Messi and Co are just seventh in the top flight, with four losses in ten games.

And Barca midfield anchorman Sergio Busquets, 32, admitted: “It’s a lot of defeats so it’s worrying.
“It’s true that there is a long way to go but we keep slipping up.
“We reacted to the first goal and we had the ball and the chances but when it appeared we might get the next goal we conceded again through another mistake.”
In contrast to Barca’s plight, this victory was as good as it has ever got for Cadiz.

They now sit four points above Barca after their first top-flight home win of any sort for 14 years.
Barcelona’s knack of conceding soft goals this season continued as Oscar Mingueza’s poor header from a corner let in former Birmingham City frontman Alvaro Gimenez for an eighth-minute opener.
Messi finally sparked a leveller 12 minutes after the break, squirming free to tee up Jordi Alba for a cross that Pedro Alcala put into his own net.
But more ridiculous rearguard antics promptly sunk Barca.

Clement Lenglet failed spectacularly to control a dodgy throw to him from Alba.
The ball spiralled off France centre-back Lenglet’s knee towards keeper Marc Andre ter Stegen – as Negredo came sniffing.
And it was Negredo who got there first to stab home, with Barca midfielder Frenkie de Jong lunging in but failing to stop the 62nd-minute winner.

Barcelona president Tusquets takes fresh dig at Lionel Messi confirming summer transfer would have been good business

INTERIM Barcelona president Carlos Tusquets has maintained his view that the club would be ‘better off’ without Lionel Messi.
A row has been sparked at the Camp Nou after the chief claimed that he would have considered selling the Argentine during his contract dispute in the summer.

A number of figures, including coach Ronald Koeman, slammed Tusquets for suggesting the Catalans could make do without Messi.
But he has once again asserted that, financially-speaking, a sale was the best option.
He told Catalunya Radio: “I didn’t say that I would have sold Messi.
“I said that, financially, him leaving would have been good for the club.

“We would be better off because we said that his salary is the highest in the world.
“Nothing could be truer. But I’m nobody, the decision is his and the interim board cannot take these decisions.
“If it’s necessary, I’ll tell Koeman that he has misunderstood what I said. I was just doing the maths.
“What Messi generates for the club makes up for the cost [of his salary], but Barcelona aren’t dependant on just one person.”

Tusquets is in temporary charge of the LaLiga giants ahead of the club’s presidential election on January 24.
Frontrunner Joan Laporta, who ran Barcelona from 2003 to 2010, has promised ‘imaginative proposals’ to secure Messi’s future.
The striker is paid a mega £900,000-a-week to make him the world’s top-earning footballer.
Having recently sealed a second round of squad pay cuts, the Blaugrana are dealing with a financial crisis due to the coronavirus pandemic and a mammoth wage bill.
Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain are among the teams keeping an eye on the 33-year-old ahead of his contract expiring in June.
Tusquets is not running for the full-time presidency and set alarm bells ringing when going off-piste with his comments earlier in the month.

How PSG could line up if they nabbed Lionel Messi
The 69-year-old had declared: “From an economic point of view, I would have sold Messi in the summer.
“It would have been desirable for the money we would have received, and for what we would have saved.”
The remarks upset coach Koeman, who is determined to prove to Messi that he can lead Barcelona to trophies this season.
The Dutchman said: “If there’s anyone who needs to decide about his future, it’s Leo himself.

Leo’s got a year left on his deal and he is the one who needs to decide.
    Ronald Koeman

“I don’t care what’s said outside the club, however comments from inside the club don’t help us have the calmness we need to do our job.
“We can’t control what’s said outside, but from within it’s a different story.
“It might have been his personal opinion and I respect that.
“But Leo’s got a year left on his deal and he is the one who needs to decide.”

Koeman slams Barcelona chief’s ‘unhelpful’ Lionel Messi comments after he claimed club should have sold star

BARCELONA’S internal war escalated as boss Ronald Koeman blasted the interim president for claiming Lionel Messi should have been sold last summer.
Messi has made no secret of his desire to quit the Nou Camp – and unless Barca suddenly provide some clear ideas the club could lurch into chaos with him walking out next year.

But the in-fighting is actually on the rise – boosting Manchester City’s chances of landing the 33-year-old legend in January or next summer.
Now Koeman has gone public to slate current president Carles Tusquets for re-opening the wounds of the row between club and star player.
Koeman said: “If there’s anyone who needs to decide about his future, it’s Leo himself.

Barca are enduring a miserable period on and off the pitch, languishing seventh in LaLiga and facing financial meltdown.

The players have agreed to a wage deferral to help the club complete the season but they may be left with no choice but to sell players in January.
Messi will be able to walk away for nothing at the end of the season and there is a chance Barca may decide to let him leave next month to at least get some money in for him.
City are patiently waiting in the wings and will make a move given the first sign a deal is there to be done.

Former Real Madrid and Everton star Royston Drenthe quit football to launch a rap career, but is now bankrupt

ROYSTON Drenthe is bankrupt following a career that promised so much when he signed for Real Madrid in 2007.
The former Dutch international, who had a stint at Everton in 2011, was last seen playing for amateur side Kozakken Boys in the Dutch third tier in 2019.

Now 33, his life is at a crossroads as it has been revealed he has squandered his £3.2million fortune.
Drenthe told Voetbalzone that he “didn’t know exactly what is going on”.
He also added: “I am always under a magnifying glass, but it will be resolved as it should.”
Once a lightning quick, tricky winger, Drenthe hit the headlines in 2017 when word spread around Europe that he’d hung up his boots and instead decided to pick up a mic and launch himself as a rapper.

Drenthe, who goes by the moniker Roya2Faces, recorded an EP and released it to the world.
However, it seems that career choice, lead by his passion for music, has failed to pay the bills.
Yet it looked like he was on course to emulate flying Dutch wingers of the past when he came through at Feyenoord, and should still be with a professional club today.

    STAR PLAYER
Named player of the tournament at the 2007 U21 Euros, where the Netherlands beat England to win the competition, big things were expected of Drenthe.

He moved from boyhood club Feyenoord to Real Madrid that same year for £12m, but after initial success was sent on several loan spells.
At Spanish club Hercules things were going brilliantly until they stopped paying him, while he started superbly at Everton until falling foul of David Moyes for (supposed) partying and tardiness.
Drenthe then moved to Russia but didn’t settle.
Reading was his next stop – but he was out of the team after the chairman who brought him in sold up and he struggled to have any impact at Sheffield Wednesday.
Breaking point and the shock decision to retire came after spells in Turkey and Abu Dhabi which saw him go unpaid.
He briefly returned with Sparta Rotterdam in 2018, but was discarded after a season helped the club gain promotion to the Eredivisie – the top tier of Dutch football.

“The situation was repeating and repeating,” he told SunSport in 2018
“No matter which country I was, which city, it didn’t change.
“I was like ‘I’m leaving, I don’t want your money no more, I’m going’.
“Then it would happen again. So after, I was just like ‘f*** it.'”
    GROWING UP IN PENDRECHT
Drenthe grew up in Rotterdam and has a music studio in an upstairs room of a small office building on a housing estate Pendrecht – one of the tougher neighbourhoods in Rotterdam.
He has always kept a home in the city, despite his nomadic football career, the place where his father was murdered – shot before being run over – by two rival drug dealer brothers in a turf war in August 1990.

His life story, and more on his upbringing were told in an official biography called ‘Royston’ that was released in 2017.
What comes up in his book, repeatedly, is his passion for hip hop as well as his troubled childhood.
    LOVE FOR HIP HOP
Royston collaborated with Dutch rapper U-Niq while still playing and appeared on radio with Ryan Babel when the pair were at Everton and Liverpool.
Drenthe said: “[As kids] we were always rapping on the streets.
“It got serious when I was 18. I was always chilling [with rappers] and they taught me how to write lyrics.
“U-Niq, a big rapper in Holland, taught me to write lyrics by myself.
“Music is a part of my life… when I’m in a car and there is 10 or 15 minutes with no music I always start to think ‘what is missing’.
“Before a game I had to listen to something, it was very important for me.
“Without music it was difficult to go [and play].”

    TROLLED ON SOCIAL
Despite his obvious dedication to his craft, Drenthe attracted plenty of hatred on social media – for both his music and football career.
He admitted sometimes he even puts out content to purposefully wind up his trolls, who will now have more ammunition with reports he’s skint.
“It doesn’t affect me and I think that bothers a lot of people,” he said.
“Sometimes I just want to trigger them. I think ‘OK, you want to play big boy behind your phone or computer then let’s battle then’.”

Some fans wonder if Drenthe will ever return to professional football
    AMATEUR HOUR
A career in amateur football isn’t what Drenthe had planned for his later years in the game.
But training and playing with pals was important to the wideman.
“It’s a good thing. Every Sunday we play, Thursday we train,” he said in 2018.
“If it’s good weather we come. If it’s bad weather we stay home!
“Sometimes we don’t have enough guys.”

Chelsea set to offload Antonio Rudiger and Fikayo Tomori in January with Barcelona and Newcastle keen on transfers

CHELSEA are reportedly willing to listen to offers for both Antonio Rudiger and Fikayo Tomori in January.
The defenders have each featured in the Premier League just once this season with Frank Lampard preferring a centre-back pairing of Thiago Silva and Kurt Zouma.

Former Roma star Rudiger has been linked with a shock move to Barcelona as an alternative to Manchester City’s Eric Garcia.
Meanwhile ex-Derby loanee Tomori is claimed to be an option for Newcastle as Steve Bruce weighs up bringing him to St James’ Park on loan.
And ESPN have stated that the pair will be allowed to leave Stamford Bridge as Lampard looks to trim the centre-backs in his squad.
It remains to be seen whether the West London outfit would allow both players to depart the club in the New Year.

Should they both leave, Chelsea would have just Andreas Christensen to rely on as back-up.
Rudiger is aware that he must be playing regular football if he wants to be named in Joachim Low’s Germany Euro 2020 squad.
Low revealed in October how Rudiger was desperate to leave Chelsea in the summer, before stating he will look to force through a move in January.
He said: “I was in constant contact with Rudiger, he was keeping me in the loop.

“He had three or four options over the weekend but unfortunately nothing materialised – he can try again in the winter.
“He tried everything to leave Chelsea because the European Championship is very important to him.
“I think he’ll try to leave again in the winter. He’s doing everything he can to stay in his best form.”

Man Utd transfer blow as Barcelona open talks with Ousmane Dembele over new contract after amazing turnaround

MANCHESTER UNITED have been dealt a huge blow in their pursuit of Ousmane Dembele.
ESPN report that Barcelona have opened talks over a new deal for the 23-year-old Frenchman.

The report states that negotiations with Dembele have been ongoing for ‘several weeks’.
Barcelona are keen to tie down the former Borussia Dortmund star with a long-term deal.
And the club do not want to lose him on a free when his current deal expires in 2022.
Dembele joined the club in an incredible £110million deal from BVB in 2018.

His time at the club has been plagued by injuries, but he has proved his potential this season.
The 23-year-old has chipped in with four goals and two assists in 11 appearances.
Last season he only managed nine appearances across all competitions.
It is understood that his contract renewal, should it be agreed, will not go through until January 24.

The Spanish side are not expected to complete any transfer business until their new president is elected.
But Manchester United will reportedly reignite their interest in Dembele next month.
Solskjaer’s side want to bring him to Old Trafford on loan before considering a permanent transfer.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s 750 goals broken down with Portuguese almost scoring as many at Juventus as he did at Man Utd

CRISTIANO RONALDO hit an incredible 750th career goal as Juventus beat Dynamo Kiev.
The Portuguese superstar, 35, reached the landmark in his 1,026th professional game.

Cristiano Ronaldo has to score 43 more goals for Juventus to match his United tally

Of that tally, 75 have come for Juve, 450 for Real Madrid, 118 for Manchester United, five for Sporting Lisbon and 102 for his country.
The Champions League’s record scorer made it 132 competition goals in 173 games by tapping in a rebound from close range.
Ronaldo had to wait for VAR to rule out an offside, with Stephanie Frappart confirming the goal as she became the first female to referee a Champions League game.
The goal counted, but he was accused of stealing the strike from team-mate Alvaro Morata.

After the match, Ronaldo shared a lengthy message with his 243 millions on Instagram.
He wrote: “750 goals, 750 happy moments, 750 smiles in the faces of our supporters.
“Thank you to all the players and coaches that helped me reach this amazing number.
“Thank you to all my loyal opponents that made me work harder and harder everyday.

“But above all, thanks to my wonderful family, always present in my best and worst moments.
“Next stop: 800 goals. Let’s go!”
Ronaldo has to score 43 more goals for Juventus before he matches his Manchester United tally.
It took him just 46 games to score his last 43 goals for the Serie A giants.
And he is now just 17 off Pele’s all-time record of 767 career goals.
But he has been linked with a move away from the Italian giants, who he joined in 2018.
Reports have claimed he is looking to build bridges with Madrid ahead of a reutn to the Bernabeu.
