Man Utd and Chelsea in Lucas Vazquez transfer fight as midfielder ‘tells Real Madrid he will NOT sign new deal’

MANCHESTER UNITED and Chelsea could be involved in a transfer fight for Lucas Vazquez after he told Real Madrid he will not sign a new deal, according to reports. The Spanish wideman, 29, is out of contract at the Bernabeu at the end of the season.

According to ABC in Spain, Vazquez has rejected ‘several’ extensions from Los Blancos – the latest of which was a three-year deal but included a ten per cent pay cut due to the pandemic.
The report states he has made it clear he will refuse to put pen to paper and that could open the floodgates for a battle for his signature.
Premier League giants United and Chelsea are among the frontrunners to bring the nine-cap international in on a free transfer.
Both clubs will be desperate to bolster their squads in the summer – the experienced and versatile Spaniard fits the bill.
After struggling for game time last season, the three-time Champions League winner is back in the fold as a first-team regular this term – either on the right wing or at right-back.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants another winger and cover for Aaron Wan-Bissaka while Vazquez could slot into a number of positions under Thomas Tuchel at Stamford Bridge, including as the right wing-back.
However, both clubs face competition from AC Milan, Leeds and Tottenham.
A reunion with Carlo Ancelotti at Everton could also be on the cards with suggestions the Toffees are monitoring his situation.

Erling Haaland’s dad and agent land in Barcelona and whisked off to transfer meeting with president Joan Laporta

BARCELONA could be set to steal a march in the race for Erling Haaland after the player’s representatives began talks with the club.On Thursday morning, the striker’s dad and advisor Alf-Inge Haaland and agent Mino Raiola were spotted at Barcelona El-Prat Airport.
Alf-Inge Haaland was spotted arriving into Barcelona Airport on Thursday
Mino Raiola also touched down ahead of the crunch talks
According to Spanish outlet Sport, the pair were whisked away in a car driven by club president Joan Laporta’s personal assistant.
The newly-elected Barcelona chief hinted at a move for the Borussia Dortmund striker before winning the post last month.
The club is dealing with a difficult financial situation while also attempting to renew Lionel Messi’s contract, which expires in June.
But reports suggest Raiola and Laporta hold a strong working relationship, potentially standing them in good stead to win the race for Haaland.
According to Fabrizio Romano, the player’s camp held talks with Borussia in recent days to determine his future.
And Onda Cero report on Barcelona viewing signing Haaland as ‘possible’ after the two-hour meeting, which was their first contact over the deal.

SunSport revealed this week that a deal to sign the 20-year-old could cost as much as £300million.
That includes a £150m transfer fee, which Barcelona reportedly want to knock down to £125m, and a five-year contract featuring £600,000-a-week wages.
Manchester City, where dad Alf-Inge used to play, are another club thought to be targeting the striker.
Sergio Aguero’s imminent exit will open up a big hole in Pep Guardiola’s attack with Haaland joining Harry Kane, but not Messi, on their shortlist.

Bayern Munich have ruled out a bid for the Dortmund star but Chelsea, Real Madrid and Manchester United remain linked.
Haaland completed his international duties with Norway last night having been subbed off in the win over Montenegro.
There are no doubts over his club form with a whopping 33 goals hit in 31 games.
Dortmund currently sit fifth in the Bundesliga table ahead of a meeting with fourth-placed Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday.

Sergio Aguero’s Barcelona transfer in doubt with two problems threatening to derail free move for Man City legend

BARCELONA may opt against signing Sergio Aguero amid reports of the striker’s high wage demands. An extensive squad renewal plan is being set out by Ronald Koeman but the Catalans’ significant financial problems will impact how the summer unfolds.
Sergio Aguero will have to find a new club this summerCredit: AP
According to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Barcelona bosses are keen on the striker.
Aguero, 32, will bid a fond farewell to Manchester City when his contract expires at the end of June.
But, despite being a ‘free’ transfer, his reported wage demands of £250,000-a-week is a stumbling block for the Blaugrana.
Koeman hopes to bring in a striker but Lyon’s Memphis Depay, a long-term target who is also out of contract in the summer, is another option.
Barcelona also hope to land Georginio Wijnaldum and Eric Garcia when they become free agents at the end of the campaign.
The top priority will naturally be keeping talisman Lionel Messi and it had been claimed that signing the Argentine’s pal Aguero could help in that regard.

The pair are good friends and have played together in the Albiceleste national team for over a decade.
Yet it is Aguero’s age that is also said to be putting Barcelona off.
With Messi turning 34 during the summer and potential alternative Depay much younger at 27, the club may prefer a more long-term option.
Should the Spanish giants edge away from a deal, which Aguero is said to want, he will nonetheless have plenty of suitors.

Arsenal outcast Lucas Torreira wanted by Boca Juniors in summer transfer – the club midfielder supported as boy

Largely used as a substitute during Los Rojiblancos’ LaLiga title push, he is set for an uncertain summer while under contract at Arsenal for two more years.
One option emerging for Torreira is a return to South America with Boca Juniors.
According to ESPN, the Argentine club are eyeing the 25-year-old amid their pursuit of a new defensive midfielder.
Torreira grew up in the Uruguayan town of Fray Bentos, next to the border with Argentina and only a few hours away from Boca’s home city of Buenos Aires.
He has previously described supporting Los Xeneizes and stated last year: “My love for Boca was born many years ago.
“We are a very footballing family and Uruguayans watch a lot of Argentine football, and I have been passionate about Boca from a very young age.”

Arsenal are set to continue their squad overhaul in the summer having already cut high-earning fringe players such as Mesut Ozil and Sokratis Papastathopoulos.
Following a busy January window, SunSport revealed the Gunners’ hopes of getting David Luiz and Matteo Guendouzi off the wage bill as well as Torreira.
A host of clubs including Lazio, Fiorentina and Monaco are said to be interested in signing the player.
Boca are also reportedly seeking a striker in the summer and have been linked with Manchester United’s Edinson Cavani.

Man Utd joined by Real Madrid in Jules Kounde transfer race as Los Blancos line up David Alaba alternative

REAL MADRID have joined Manchester United in the chase for Sevilla star Jules Kounde, according to reports.Zinedine Zidane’s side are keen on signing a new defender this summer, given the possible exits of Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane.
Jules Kounde has impressed for Sevilla and is wanted by Real Madrid and Man UtdCredit: Rex
And, with Bayern Munich’s David Alaba potentially moving elsewhere despite months of negotiations with Real, Kounde would appear to fit the bill as an excellent alternative to the Austrian.
SunSport told you earlier this month that the Red Devils had been boosted by Sevilla’s decision to lower their asking price to around £50million.
And according to AS, Madrid now also fancy a bit of that.
Kounde, who is currently representing France at the European Under-21 Championships, will still have three years remaining on his contract.
But the 22-year-old may seek to force a big transfer this summer.
While diminutive in size for a defender at 5ft 10in, Kounde has impressed for Sevilla since joining from Bordeaux in 2019.
And he is already familiar to Man Utd, having helped his side eliminate the Red Devils from the Europa League last season.
In total, he has made 79 appearances for Sevilla to date, and would appear an ideal long-term partner for United skipper Harry Maguire.

Should Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side beat Madrid to Kounde’s signature, Los Blancos have drawn up a shortlist of other options.
Villarreal defender Pau Torres is on their radar, while they could bring back former Wolves flop Jesus Vallejo, 25, from his loan spell at Granada.
Vallejo could face United in the quarter-finals of the Europa League next month, with his team of Spanish underdogs having drawn the Red Devils.

Barcelona’s financial situation is ‘worse than expected’ as new board carry out audit of cash-strapped club

BARCELONA’s financial situation is ‘worse than expected’, according to reports.New club president Joan Laporta promised voters earlier this month that he would undergo a full audit of the club’s finances, should he be elected.

This audit is now believed to have been completed, with dire results.
According to Catalonia TV station Esport3, the club face making a loss of around £300million this season.
And they claim that the club are in for another dire financial loss next season, even as Laporta aims to improve on the last regime.
It’s not necessarily all bad news for Barca fans, however.
The audit claims that Laporta believes he can get the club turning a profit again by the 2022-23 season.
In addition to this, numbers suggest that they are planning for KEEPING Lionel Messi.
And as if that wasn’t enough, they also reportedly take into account the presumption of signing a top striker this summer – with Laporta sure that he can steer the club back into financial stability while remaining competitive on the pitch.
Barca have been linked with a number of top upcoming free agents ahead of the next transfer window.

Eric Garcia has already agreed a move from Manchester City, while his current team-mate Sergio Aguero could follow suit.
Georginio Wijnaldum has also been linked, with Ronald Koeman a big fan of his Dutch compatriot.
But club chiefs are determined to secure wonderkid Ilaix Moriba to a new deal, however, and see that as a priority over signing Wijnaldum.

Barcelona make tying down wonderkid Ilaix Moriba, 18, to new deal No1 priority ahead of sealing Wijnaldum free transfer

BARCELONA are prioritising sealing a new deal for wonderkid Ilaix Moriba over signing Georginio Wijnaldum, according to reports.Boss Ronald Koeman is set to try and reshape his squad this summer, as Barca aim to rebuild following a tumultuous 18 months.

The Dutchman is keen to sign his compatriot Wijnaldum from Liverpool, with the midfielder’s contract set to expire at Anfield.
Koeman, 58, has a good relationship with the player, having worked with him during his time as Dutch national team boss.
But according to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona’s limited funds are more likely to be allocated elsewhere.
Club chiefs, with Koeman’s blessing, are desperate to renew wonderkid Moriba’s deal in the coming months.
At 18, the supremely gifted midfielder has already become a trusted member of Koeman’s squad, having made his LaLiga debut last month.
Alongside Pedri, homegrown product Moriba is seen as a key part of the club’s future.
But his current contract is set to expire in June 2022, with Barcelona treating sealing a renewal as a matter of urgency.
In terms of incomings, Barca are prioritising a new centre forward in the market.

Koeman has been short of options this season, having recently settled on wide man Ousmane Dembele as a central option, rather than ex-Middlesbrough flop Martin Braithwaite.
Sergio Aguero, following confirmation that he will leave Manchester City this summer, has been heavily linked with a move that would see him link up with Argentine pal Lionel Messi.
But Koeman is also a fan of Memphis Depay, with both players set to be out of contract in the summer, but sure to command big wages.
Once Moriba’s extension is sorted and a new forward is signed, then Barcelona will see if there is enough left in the coffers to sign Wijnaldum as well.
The 30-year-old has been a key man for Jurgen Klopp’s side, helping them win the Premier League and Champions League in recent seasons.
But with his deal set to come to an end, he appears to fancy a new challenge away from Anfield.

Man City’s free transfer move for Lionel Messi ‘OFF’ as Pep Guardiola turns to Kane and Haaland as Aguero replacements

MANCHESTER CITY will not move for Lionel Messi this summer, according to reports in Spain. The Barcelona talisman is out of contract in June with the Premier League leaders said to be joining Paris Saint-Germain in monitoring his situation.

Pep Guardiola will need a new striker after Sergio Aguero’s exitCredit: Getty
But a sense that Messi, 33, will sign a fresh deal at the Camp Nou has dissuaded City’s interest.
According to Barcelona-based publication Sport, Pep Guardiola’s links with the Catalan club along with City’s other former Blaugrana chiefs Txiki Begiristain and Ferran Soriano, have helped gauge the low likelihood of Messi leaving.
Therefore it is considered of little benefit to move heaven and earth in making a bid, which PSG may still attempt to do.
The Argentine is reportedly happy to take his time in deciding his future, with a Copa del Rey and LaLiga title still to fight for despite a poor start to the season for Ronald Koeman’s side.
Guardiola did look at Messi during his Barcelona feud last year and remains in need of a new forward this summer, when Sergio Aguero will leave Eastlands.
It is said that the 32-year-old was told that, should he have agreed a new City contract, a new forward would have been signed regardless.

Wednesday’s Sport front page declares ‘case closed’ on Lionel Messi’s move to Manchester City
But his departure, potentially to Barcelona, means the ante has been upped in the coming market.
Erling Haaland and Harry Kane are, according to The Times, key targets, with Inter Milan pair Lautaro Martinez and Romelu Lukaku also named in reports.
SunSport revealed this morning that a bid for Borussia Dortmund marksman Haaland would need to top £300million.
That includes a £150m transfer fee and £600,000-a-week wages, on a five-year contract.
City’s links to the 20-year-old striker are deep with former player Alf-Inge Haaland his dad and advisor, although agent Mino Raiola would likely command a big fee for helping cut the deal.
In comparison, Tottenham would also demand a hefty price for Kane, 27.

Under contract to 2024, the England star has hit 27 goals and 16 assists for his club this season, while Haaland boasts 33 and eight.
Spurs and Borussia face fights to qualify for next season’s Champions League, with both currently sat outside their respective top fours.
City will get a fresh chance to scout Haaland next month when facing the Norwegian in the Champions League quarter-finals.
