Man Utd plot Raphael Varane transfer bid in summer with Real Madrid wanting £60m for defender

MANCHESTER UNITED are back on the trail of Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane. The Red Devils looked into signing the French centre-back three years ago but were told it would cost more than £100million.

Now, though, the 27-year-old has just over a year left on his contract and could be available for a much lower figure.
Madrid value him in the £60m bracket. But that figure is still likely to be viewed as high,  particularly with the impact of coronavirus on the transfer market.
If United do make a move, they could face competition from Paris Saint-Germain.
Varane was one of the centre-backs identified by Jose Mourinho during his last summer in charge at Old Trafford in 2018.
United were willing to spend big but the figures being quoted by Madrid put them off.

A year later they spent £80m on Harry Maguire and now boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants a new partner for the England man.
Former United defender Gary Neville said recently he felt Varane, who misses tonight’s game at  Liverpool with coronavirus, would be perfect for the club.
Sevilla’s Jules Kounde and Pau Torres, of Villarreal, are other targets.

Real Madrid signed Rodrygo as ‘they don’t trust Vinicius Jr’, claims ex-Barcelona scout who says Brazilian betrayed him

REAL MADRID signed Rodrygo because they ‘don’t trust Vinicius Jr’, claimed a former Barcelona scout who says the Brazilian betrayed him.Los Blancos signed Vinicius Jr in 2018 – and then snapped up compatriot Rodrygo the following year.
A former Barcelona scout reckons Real Madrid signed Rodrygo, right, because they didn’t trust Vinicius JrCredit: Getty
And Barcelona’s ex-chief in South American reckons the two deals were linked.
Andre Curry told SPORT: “They did not trust Vinicius and feared that they had signed the wrong player and we the right one.
“That is why they have two players of the same age, in the same position and from outside the EU.
“I had known Rodrygo for a long time and had a profile to play for Barca. I started negotiating with his agent, Nick Arcuri.
“The club met twice here in Brazil with the president of Santos: Oscar Grau, Pep Segura and me were there.
“I told them we had to go out with the business closed. We did not. And Madrid arrived.”
Curry added Barca were ready to pay £15.6million for Vinicius and £17.4m for Rodrygo – Real splashed out £35m and £40m respectively, plus a further £25m on another Brazilian teenager, Reinier Jesus, who is now on loan at Borussia Dortmund.
Vinicius, 20, has 15 goals in 107 appearances for Real while fellow winger Rodrygo, also 20, is on eight in 49.

Despite his heroics with a brace against Liverpool in the Champions League, Vinicius has been linked with a Bernabeu exit as part of a swap deal with Paris Saint-Germain’s Kylian Mbappe.
But Curry clearly feels aggrieved his pursuit of bringing Vinicius to the Nou Camp failed.
He added: “With Vinicius we were three-and-a-half years ahead of Madrid.
“Their agents had reached a compromise with Barcelona, betrayed us.
“I had a gigantic friendship with them, to the point of being the best man at their weddings and their children.
Gareth Bale, Eden Hazard and Sergio Ramos are Real Madrid’s top earners
“At the key moment of the operation, they stabbed us. Fifteen days before signing for Madrid, here in Brazil, Vinicius said that he was a Barca fan, that his idol was Neymar and affirmed that Messi was better than Cristiano.
“His agents and Vinicius’s father were in Barcelona. Wagner Ribeiro called Florentino [Perez, Real president] advising him. And he invited them to go to Madrid on Saturday.
“They warned us that they would go, but that nothing would happen because the footballer was already from Barcelona.
“There was a verbal commitment. [Real chief scout] Juni Calafat himself said that it was almost impossible to close it because he knew the relationship I had with the player’s entourage.
“The agents returned to Barcelona, closed the final agreement with us, shook our hands… And then they disappeared and betrayed us.”

Man Utd ‘will launch Raphael Varane transfer bid in summer’ with Real Madrid ready to offload stars for huge rebuild

MANCHESTER UNITED are reportedly ready to take advantage of Real Madrid’s squad rebuild and bid for Raphael Varane.A new centre-back is thought to be Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s priority for the coming transfer window.
Raphael Varane could be available for £60million this summerCredit: Rex
The Red Devils’ defence has been guilty of lapses in concentration since the Norwegian took over, leading to a hunt for a fresh partner for Harry Maguire.
A whole host of top stars have been linked with the club, including Jules Kounde, Sergio Ramos, Nikola Milenkovic and Pau Torres.
According to the Mail, World Cup winner Varane is the first player United will attempt to sign.
Real may be ready to agree a fee of around £60million to call time on his decade at the club, before his contract expires in 2022.
The Frenchman, 27, is said to be ready for a fresh challenge with boyhood club Paris Saint-Germain also a potential option.
Solskjaer has been urged by former team-mates Paul Scholes and Gary Neville to land a new centre-back.
CASINO SIGN UP OFFER: CLAIM UP TO £800 IN CASINO BONUS CASH

Ex-defender Neville recently named Varane as his ideal capture with Scholes calling for a new ‘dominant’ star to play alongside Maguire.
United reportedly want to negotiate down the £60m fee but will struggle to find a more decorated alternative than the quadruple Champions League winner.
Playing into their hands could be Madrid’s summer overhaul, which is being formulated by Florentino Perez.
The club president was handed a fresh four-year mandate on Tuesday and is set to end his period of relative quiet in the market.

Real famously decided not to sign anybody in the past two windows and reportedly have big things in mind for the end of the season.
Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland are named as two top targets along with soon-to-be free agent David Alaba.
The huge Estadio Bernabeu redevelopment also continues apace despite pandemic financial troubles, leading to the high chance of player sales to fund the overhaul.

Chelsea ‘in pole position’ to land Jules Kounde and could offer one of five stars in swap transfer for Sevilla defender

CHELSEA are reportedly willing to offer Hakim Ziyech to Sevilla in a player-plus-cash deal to bring Jules Kounde to Stamford Bridge. The Blues are understood to be in the market for a centre-back in the summer, with AS stating that Thomas Tuchel has identified the 22-year-old as an option.

SunSport exclusively revealed last month that Manchester United were eyeing up a move for Kounde to pair him alongside Harry Maguire.
But Spanish media have claimed that the West Londoners are in pole position to secure the Frenchman’s services.
They have declared that Chelsea are unwilling to activate his £69million release clause, and will instead try to drive the price down by offering one of five players as well as cash.
Moroccan playmaker Ziyech – who only joined the Premier League side from Ajax last year – is said to be one squad member Chelsea would be open to letting go.
The 28-year-old has failed to live up to expectations since moving to England.
He has chipped in with just one goal and three assists in 17 top-flight games, with his last strike coming in the 3-0 win away at Burnley in October.
Other players who could reportedly be used in any swap deal are Tammy Abraham, Cesar Azpilicueta, Michy Batshuayi and Tiemoue Bakayoko.
Kounde is widely regarded as one of Europe’s most promising defenders since bursting on the scene at Bordeaux during the 2017-18 season.

The France youth international is in his second campaign in Seville, where he helped Julen Lopetegui’s side win the Europa League last campaign.
He was heavily linked with a switch to Manchester City last year with the Citizens having a £46million offer rejected, leading them to sign Ruben Dias from Benfica.
Speaking at the time, Sevilla chief Monchi said: “An offer from English football has arrived, we have assessed it and rejected it.
“Although it is more than double the investment we made 12 months ago, we consider it to be insufficient. If more offers arrive, we will assess it and decide, as we always do.
“We are not afraid to sell, because that is what we have done over the last two decades and that is what has allowed us to grow.
“It is our model, selling in order to grow. But we want to sell for a significant amount so that we can reinvest those amounts in new players who in turn improve the squad.”

Mbappe and Haaland in, Bernabeu upgraded, £172m turnover increase and Ramos gone – how Perez wants to revolutionise Real

FLORENTINO PEREZ has a grand plan to revolutionise Real Madrid and make them Europe’s kings once again. The club president will keep his seat until 2025 and has ambitious plans including signing Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland.

Reports in Spain say that snapping up the two hottest properties in Europe is Perez’s main objective after the election.
Mbappe is locked in contract talks with current side PSG but Real are confident of landing him in the summer.
But Dortmund striker Haaland might have to wait until 2022 with the German club wanting £150m for his services.
Bayern Munich defender David Alaba, meanwhile, has verbally agreed to join Los Blancos in the summer on a free.
Zinedine Zidane will stay on as manager after leading Real to two La Liga titles and three Champions Leagues.
One man set to leave the Bernabeu, however, is captain Sergio Ramos.
The 35-year-old has won five La Liga titles and four Champions Leagues in his glittering Real Madrid career dating back to 2005 when he joined from Sevilla.

Perez also hopes Real Madrid’s stadium refurbishments can generate more revenue.
The Bernabeu improvements could bring in an extra £170m annually through ticket sales, hospitality packages and also concerts outside of football.
Real Madrid have been playing at their 6,000-seat training ground since the coronavirus pandemic began with the Bernabeu under redevelopment.
Finances are a key part of Perez’s Real Madrid outlook after the hit caused by Covid.
This year they face a loss of around £60million and the club have asked staff to take a ten per cent pay cut.

Players will also be asked to reduce their wages as the club navigates it’s way back to a healthy financial position.
And one idea that Real Madrid have been leading the charge for is a European Super League.

MANCHESTER UNITED have been handed a boost in their pursuit of Saul Niguez with the Atletico Madrid ace reportedly up for sale. The Red Devils are known to be admirers of the 26-year-old and were rumoured to be eyeing up a £71million bid for him last summer.

And it was claimed in December that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side have reignited their interest in the midfielder ahead of a possible summer move.
It has been alleged that should Paul Pogba depart Old Trafford at the end of the season, then United would make a swoop to sign the Spain international.
And according to Cadena Ser, United’s chances of landing him have been boosted, with Atletico prepared to cash in on their academy graduate.
They state that up to seven players could be heading for the exit door at the Wanda Metropolitano, including loanee Lucas Torreira, who will be heading back to Arsenal.
It has also been suggested that Chelsea target Jose Gimenez could be sold.
Winger Vitolo – who has been offered to West Ham for £8.5million – is another player that Atletico are said to be keen to offload.
Speaking last year, Saul put United on red alert when he admitted that he is ‘flattered’ to being linked with the club.
He told Marca: “I am very flattered that a club like Manchester United or other teams that ask about me take me into consideration, for me it is very positive.

Barcelona set to step up Sergio Aguero free transfer chase as Chelsea, Arsenal and Juventus target Man City legend

BARCELONA are set to step up their interest in outgoing Manchester City star Sergio Aguero.SunSport exclusively revealed the Catalan giants’ interest in the Argentine back in January.
Spanish paper Sport have led on Barcelona moving for Sergio Aguero
And with Man City announcing their legendary striker’s upcoming departure last month, the path would seem to have cleared for Ronald Koeman’s men.
But Barca will still have to beat off interest from several other clubs.
According to Sport, the Catalan side will now accelerate their interest in Aguero, having had a period to plan.
The 32-year-old is reportedly being chased by the likes of Juventus, Chelsea and Arsenal.
And the Italian giants are believed to have offered him a two-year contract on around £165,000-a-week.
Barcelona cannot match that offer, but hope to lure Aguero with other factors.
His friendship with Lionel Messi is no secret, and his desire to play with his compatriot could play a major role in not only convincing him to sign – but also in making Barca’s No10 stay put.
It is also claimed that Aguero likes the idea of returning to Spain, where he played for five years with Atletico Madrid.

The arrival of Aguero wouldn’t prevent Barcelona from trying to sign another striker.
Sport also claim that Koeman desires another, younger forward – with Lautaro Martinez and Erling Haaland still on their radar.
Club chiefs met with the latter’s father Alf-Inge and agent Mino Raiola earlier this month.
But Barcelona still have a difficult financial balancing act to maintain, as they aim to strengthen for next season – while proving to Messi that he can win more medals with his boyhood club.

Man Utd and Real Madrid on red alert as Camavinga sparks transfer scramble after ‘refusing to sign new Rennes contract’

EDUARDO CAMAVINGA will not sign a new contract at Rennes, according to reports. And that is set to put Manchester United and Real Madrid on red alert over a summer transfer.
Eduardo Camavinga is reportedly refusing to sign a new contract at Rennes – opening the door for a bidding war between Real Madrid and Manchester UnitedCredit: Getty
The European heavyweights are long-term admirers of the defensive midfielder.
So reports from The Athletic that he is not going to put pen to paper on an extension will be music to the ears of the top brass at Bernabeu and Old Trafford.
The 18-year-old’s current deal at Rennes expires at the end of the 2021-22 season.
The Ligue 1 side are struggling to secure European football next season – they currently sit seventh – and would likely try and add a release clause into any new contract.
And that is thought to be putting Camavinga off committing his future to the club and pricing himself out of a dream move.
That means the France international could be available for a cut-price fee this summer, or even for free in a year’s time.
He signed with Gareth Bale’s agent Jonathan Barnett at the end of last year, possibly in anticipation of a mega move.
And with plenty of links in England and Spain, there will be no shortage of interest in the Frenchman.

He has 75 first-team club appearances under his belt already – including four impressive displays in this season’s Champions League.
The Angola-born midfielder netted a stunning overhead kick on his international full senior debut for the world champions last October to become the youngest scorer for France in 106 years.
As well as Real and United, Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus are among the teams tracking him.
Rumours in recent months have quoted a £45million transfer fee – the kind of money Rennes would surely find impossible to turn down.
However, the Red Devils want to avoid any long-strung transfer sagas.
Their pursuit of Jadon Sancho last summer ultimately failed and they do not want a repeat if they go back in for the England winger, his Borussia Dortmund team-mate Erling Haaland or Camavinga.
