Watch furious Barcelona keeper Ter Stegen blast former team-mate Luis Suarez after he tries to cheat penalty

FURIOUS Marc-Andre ter Stegen blasted former team-mate Luis Suarez after the Uruguayan tried to cheat for a penalty in Barcelona’s 0-0 draw with Atletico Madrid.Suarez, 34, returned to the Nou Camp today to seek revenge against the club that forced him out last summer.

Suarez’s new club Atletico have led the LaLiga title race all season.
And Barcelona needed a win in order to draw level in the table.
However, neither side was able to find a breakthrough, leaving Barca two points behind with three games remaining while opening the door for Real Madrid to go top on Sunday.
But being back in familiar territory did not stop Suarez from trying to find a winner to help Atleti pull clear.
Midway through the first half the striker challenged for the ball with former team-mate Ter Stegen.
Suarez then dramatically fell to the ground as he put his hands on his head, despite not being touched.
Suarez proceeded to beg for a penalty, but Ter Stegen made his feelings perfectly clear in an angry blast.
According to Marca, the German goalie screamed: “Luis, eh! Not like that!”

To which Suarez replied: “Stay there, stay there champion!”
The veteran also clashed with Gerard Pique several times, with the Spanish defender at one point exclaiming: “You’re looking for me!”
Suarez spent six years with Barcelona after joining from Liverpool in 2014.
He scored 198 goals in 283 games while winning four titles and the 2015 Champions League, as well as four Copa del Reys.
However, Barcelona offloaded Suarez to Atletico in a shock move last summer after telling him he was surplus to requirements.
Suarez’s exit upset star man and best pal Lionel Messi, who himself tried to force through a move to Manchester City before being made to stay put.

Lionel Messi’s worst team-mates XI including ex-Arsenal ace Song who failed at Barcelona to a Sunderland flop

LIONEL Messi, six-time Ballon d’Or winner, four-time Champions League winner and ten-time LaLiga winner. The Argentine is heralded by many as the greatest player of all time.

Having graced the Camp Nou for over 15 years now, many great players have purred over getting to take to the field alongside the iconic Barca No10.
Neymar referred to it as playing with his “idol”, while Xavi gushed: “It is clear that Messi is on a level above all others. Those who do not see that are blind.”
But while those two were fantastic in their own right for Barcelona, not everybody that has had the pleasure of playing with Messi can say the same.
Barca bosses are even starting to be criticised for “wasting” some of Messi’s peak with poor decision making.
And international honours also still elude him, with some of his Argentina team-mates not quite hitting the mark…
We take a look at an XI of those that should feel luckiest to have actually played with Leo.
    Willy Caballero
Messi played alongside the Chelsea stopper at the 2018 World CupCredit: Reuters
The shiny-headed Argentine is well-known to English football fans, having warmed benches at Chelsea, and before that Manchester City since arriving on these shores in 2014.
His performances in presumably the League Cup earned him a place in his national team’s World Cup squad in 2018.
Boss Jorge Sampaoli made the bold call to start him in the opening two group games in the absence of fellow Prem benchwarmer Sergio Romero.
The decision backfired spectacularly against Croatia, however, when Caballero farcically scuffed a back pass straight to Ante Rebic, who thwacked it past him to set the would-be finalists on their way to a 3-0 win.
    Douglas
Douglas was awful at right-back for BarcaCredit: AFP – Getty
Douglas was one of a number of bizarre Barcelona signings to make this list.
The Brazilian arrived at the Camp Nou as a little-known 24-year-old from Sao Paolo in 2014 and never convinced in a Barca shirt.
He looked edgy and nervous in his rare appearances, like he couldn’t quite believe he was there.
Douglas swiftly fell behind even future-Brighton right-back Martin Montoya in the pecking order, and was sent packing on numerous loan spells before the end of his almost-criminally long five-year deal in 2019.
He now plays [now and then] for Besiktas in Turkey.Santiago Vergini
The hapless Vergini (right) was hopeless at SunderlandCredit: AFP
The clumsy defender is probably best remembered in England for scoring one of the most spectacular own goals of all time for Sunderland against Southampton in a remarkable 8-0 defeat for the Black Cats.
If that is to be British fans’ only memory of Vergini’s spell in the Premier League, it is a fitting one.
Despite this aberration, that very same month he lined up alongside Messi in a 7-0 romp over Hong Kong for his country, a match in which the 5ft 6in forward bagged twice.
Now 32, Vergini turns out for San Lorenzo back in his native Argentina.
    Dmytro Chygrynskiy
Chygrynskiy arrived from Shakhtar in 2009… but returned just a year later
Dmytryo Chygrynskiy arrived at Barcelona for £20million in the summer of 2009, a lot of money for a defender in those days.
He had impressed for Shakhtar in their run to winning the previous season’s Uefa Cup, convincing Pep Guardiola to splash out on the shaggy-haired Ukrainian.
But he struggled to learn Spanish, and could not dislodge Carles Puyol or Gerard Pique at the back for the European champions.
Chygrynskiy was sent packing back to Shakhtar after just 851 minutes of action for Barcelona, although it was rumoured to be against Guardiola’s wishes – with president Sandro Rosell sanctioning the deal having been so unimpressed with the signing.
    Marc Muniesa

Marc Muniesa received a Champions League winners’ medal in 2009 without playing a single minute in that season’s competition, by virtue of simply being sat on the bench for the final.
If, warming up that day on the touchline of Rome’s Stadio Olimpico, Muniesa imagined that this sort of occasion would be a regular fixture of his career, he would be half right… there would be a lot of sitting on the bench.
After just four appearances for the Blaugrana, he was sent packing to Stoke of all places, where the most appearances he managed in a Premier League season was a paltry 19.
He now plays for Al-Arabi in the Saudi “Stars” League.Alex Song
Alex Song was a nuisance for Messi even before becoming his team-mateCredit: PA:Empics Sport
Once regarded as a fairly solid Premier League player at Arsenal, Alex Song walked the well-trodden path from the Emirates to Camp Nou in 2012.
Unfortunately for him, it was to go more the way of Alexander Hleb than Thierry Henry.
The Cameroonian failed to impress as Sergio Busquets’ understudy, and is probably most remembered for mistakenly thinking that captain Puyol wanted to single him out to lift a trophy with, rather than the recent liver tumour survivor Eric Abidal stood beside him.
Now 33, he has had spells at West Ham, Rubin Kazan and FC Sion, but now plays for Djiboutian side Arta/Solar7Enzo Perez

Enzo Perez is a scruffy little midfielder with heaps of tenacity, but not much else.
Javier Mascherano often had to completely carry that Argentina side’s midfield, largely because alongside him, Perez was somehow winning 26 caps.
Following a torrid spell at Valencia after joining from Benfica in 2014, the 35-year-old has represented River Plate in his home country for the last three years.Sandro Ramirez
Sandro (left) was given chances at Barca before flopping at EvertonCredit: AFP
It’s hard to believe that Sandro Ramirez was  on the books at Everton, following his disastrous transfer in the summer of 2017 till 2020.
It’s harder still, to believe that he made 32 appearances in an attack that also featured Messi, Neymar and Luis Suarez.
The Spaniard mustered seven goals for the side from whom’s academy he graduated – albeit six more than he got for the Toffees.
Now 25, Sandro is starring at Huesca.Kevin-Prince Boateng

When you think of “Boateng” and “Messi”, your mind is probably more likely to turn to the Argentine’s humiliation of Kevin-Prince’s brother Jerome against Bayern Munich in the Champions League.
But there was a weird spell when Leo was playing alongside the former Tottenham flop in 2019, when Barcelona signed him on loan from Sassuolo.
The Ghanaian international looked like a fish out of water when plonked up front by Ernesto Valverde.
He has since turned out for Besiktas, Fiorentina and Monza.Ricky Alvarez
Alvarez somehow played with Messi at the 2014 World Cup, despite being rubbish for SunderlandCredit: Action Images – Reuters
It seemed something of a coup when Sunderland managed to sign Ricky Alvarez on loan from Inter Milan on Deadline Day in the summer of 2014.
This was, after all, an Argentine international that had just spent the summer at the World Cup alongside Lionel Messi.
It was a disaster, however, on account of Alvarez being unfit, and rubbish.
The Black Cats then found themselves embroiled in a legal tangle after trying to get out of a permanent deal – with the horror transfer rumoured to have ultimately cost Sunderland around £20million in total.Franco Di Santo
Di Santo was inconsistent at best across spells at Wigan, Blackburn and ChelseaCredit: Dave Pinegar – The Sun
You’re Lionel Messi, you’re captain of your national team, a regular Ballon d’Or winner, it’s March 2013 and you’ve trekked to the high altitude of Bolivia to play in a World Cup qualifier.
It’s 1-1, the conditions are stifling, the campaign isn’t going well – so imagine how you feel when your manager is readying a Wigan Athletic striker to come on and save the day.
Well that’s exactly what happened, except the save the day bit.

Having mustered a whopping five goals in the Premier League that season for Roberto Martinez’s side, Di Santo found himself playing with Messi for Argentina.
The score remained 1-1, and mercifully for Messi he only once had to play with Di Santo again, although perhaps the ex-Wigan and Blackburn man might have scored one of those Gonzalo Higuain chances in the Copa America and World Cup finals…
    I suppose we’ll never know.

Eden Hazard ‘could move back to England after not selling Surrey home and refusing to rule out Chelsea transfer return’

EDEN HAZARD could move back to England after keeping hold of his Surrey house, according to reports. And the winger, 30, previously refused to rule out a return to Chelsea as talk of a stunning transfer comeback hots up.
Eden Hazard reportedly still owns the Surrey house he lived in during his time at ChelseaCredit: Getty
According to The Athletic, insiders suggest the Hazard family still own the pad they lived in near the Blues’ Cobham training ground.
Speaking soon after making his £88million switch from Chelsea to Real Madrid in 2019, the Belgian hinted he will return in some capacity when his work at the Bernabeu is done.
He said: “When I finish here I’ll come back.”
It is unclear whether that would be as a Chelsea player or simply to live in England after his playing career.
But either way, Hazard may have taken a step closer to his Real Madrid exit on Wednesday night.
The former Chelsea man – who bought a futuristic £10m mansion when he moved to Spain – endured a rough night back at Stamford Bridge.
He was anonymous for Los Blancos, barely having any impact on the game as his old club secured their place in the Champions League final.
And Hazard felt the full wrath of the Madrid fans when he was spotted laughing and joking with former team-mates after full-time.

Hazard has managed just four goals in 40 Real Madrid appearances and was a surprise inclusion from the start at Stamford Bridge.
He could not replicate some of his best moments at the ground where he enjoyed so much success for seven years.
Now some are calling for the ‘disgrace’ to be sold immediately.
One pundit added: “There are some players who come to Real Madrid, but Real Madrid does not go into them.”
Another suggested Hazard should at least have pretended to be upset and added: “It’s sad, but this is Hazard. A player with tremendous quality, but he is not professional.”

Man Utd legend Alex Ferguson was so keen to sign Karim Benzema Lyon officials ‘had to pull him away’, reveals Ferdinand

SIR ALEX FERGUSON was so desperate to sign Karim Benzema he had to be pulled away from him, according to Rio Ferdinand. The legendary Manchester United boss approached the Real Madrid striker when he was still at Lyon and officials from the Ligue 1 side were forced to intervene.

Frenchman Benzema has become a Los Blancos legend since they signed him from Lyon in 2009.
But it could have been much different for the 33-year-old if Fergie got his way the year before.
Speaking during Real’s Champions League semi-final defeat at Chelsea, Ferdinand recalled United’s last-16 tie against Lyon in 2008 in which Benzema scored.
He said on BT Sport: “The first time I played against him, Sir Alex Ferguson wanted to sign him.
“He was speaking to him in the tunnel after the game and Lyon officials had to pull him away. His movement that day was brilliant.”
Former Real and United striker Michael Owen was also on the punditry panel and he revealed he only went to United in 2009 because the Reds failed to land Benzema.
Owen added: “I only came to United because he chose Real Madrid instead of United.
“The first time I got a call from Sir Alex Ferguson, he said: ‘We want to sign Benzema, if we don’t get him… (we’re getting you.)’.”

Benzema has scored 227 goals in 12 seasons at the Bernabeu guiding Los Blancos to 18 major trophies.
Earlier this month, Arsene Wenger called for Benzema to be recalled for France after his six-year exile.
He hasn’t played for the reigning world champions since 2015 following his alleged role in a plot to blackmail Mathieu Valbuena.
Benzema is alleged to have been involved in a plan to blackmail Valbuena over an X-rated video on his mobile phone.
The striker is claimed to have acted as a middle-man, convincing Valbuena to deal with the blackmailers himself – with the now-Olympiacos man, 36, instead going to police.
Benzema’s lawyer, Sylvain Cormier, maintained the striker’s innocence in 2015, saying: “He played no part, I repeat no part, in any blackmail or attempted blackmail.”
The forward will reportedly go on trial in October – but Arsenal legend and fellow Frenchman Wenger insists Benzema should be allowed to play at Euro 2020 as his exile is for non-footballing reasons.

Barcelona could face disciplinary action after Lionel Messi holds barbecue with team-mates and Wags at mansion

BARCELONA could face disciplinary action from LaLiga after Lionel Messi held a team barbecue at his house on Monday.League bosses are looking into whether their strict Covid-19 protocols were breached by the party, which saw Messi invite the entire squad to his pad to socialise.

Social-distancing measures are understood to have been observed with tables spread out between guests.
But LaLiga were stunned they only learned of the bash when images broke on social media, and are now weighing up whether to hit Barca with any charges.
LaLiga leaders Atletico Madrid held a similar gathering last month but informed the league of their plans first, and all their protocols were cleared in advance.
Because Barca failed to do so, officials have been left upset and are now looking to see if any regulations were broken.
Barca players were heard chanting ‘Championes’, but on the pitch they still have much to do to claim the title.
They face rivals Atletico on Saturday, two points behind Diego Simeone’s side, knowing defeat could be fatal to their hopes of being crowned champions.
And the controversy comes days after Messi was reportedly ready to accept a big pay cut – to help Barca bid for Borussia Dortmund goal machine Erling Haaland.
Talks on the one-club legend’s £2.4million-a-week deal are due to begin soon following a financial review by new club president Joan Laporta.

And it’s been suggested Messi is keen to learn of Barcelona’s transfer ambitions for the summer.
Eurosport say he would take a hefty reduction in wages if the money saved was put towards strengthening the squad.
But PSG are thought to be monitoring Messi’s situation, with only two months to go until he is a free agent.

Barcelona’s mouthwatering six-man transfer shortlist includes Erling Haaland, Sergio Aguero and Georginio Wijnaldum

And, while new president Joan Laporta is optimistic about keeping Lionel Messi, Barca require fresh blood around their iconic No10.
According to Sport, the title-chasing Catalans have their eyes on six key targets – with securing a new striker at the top of their wishlist.
Erling Haaland is the highest-profile name that they are courting up front, with the Norwegian’s father Alf-Inge and agent Mino Raiola having visited club chiefs last month.
Haaland, 20, has scored 25 goals in 26 Bundesliga appearances for Borussia Dortmund this season to make him arguably the most in-demand player in the world.
But Barca could win the race to his signature, with the attraction of playing alongside Messi a key factor.
A cheaper option, however, has emerged in soon-to-be free agent Sergio Aguero, with the Manchester City star reportedly eager to join Barcelona.
The Argentine, 32, showed he’s still got it at the weekend when he scored a stunning goal against Crystal Palace.
Meanwhile, boss Koeman, 58, is a big fan of former Manchester United star Memphis Depay, having worked with his compatriot as manager of the Dutch national team.

With Depay’s contract, like Aguero’s, set to expire this summer, Barca could land themselves a bargain from Lyon.
Depay, 27, has scored 19 goals and laid on ten assists in 35 Ligue 1 outings for the French side this term.
Barca’s fourth striker option is long-term target Lautaro Martinez, who just got his hands on the Serie A title with Inter Milan.
Like so many others, the Argentine is attracted by playing with his fellow countryman Messi.
The 23-year-old has scored 15 goals and made eight assists in the Italian top flight this season.
Barca’s six-man shortlist is rounded off by another two upcoming free agents.

And the Dutchman, another to have worked with Koeman before, appears likely to take his talents to Spain at the end of the season.
Eric Garcia rounds off the list, meanwhile, with Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola having recently admitted that he expects the talented defender to join Barcelona.
He said: “Most of the time he’s not on the bench because he’s going to move to Barcelona, I hope so.

MARIO GOTZE appears to have delivered a come-and-get-me transfer plea to Barcelona as he revealed his dream of playing alongside Lionel Messi. The 28-year-old hit the big time in 2014 as he scored the World Cup-winning goal for Germany.

However, persistent fitness issues have hampered his career over recent years after he moved back to Dortmund from Bayern Munich in 2016.
Gotze left the German side last year and headed to Dutch giants PSV looking to revive his career.
The attacking midfielder has produced glimpses of the talents that made him one of the most-sought after players on the planet.
That has led to talk of a return to the national squad for the first time in three years for this summer’s European Championship.
Gotze also revealed he still harbours hopes of playing at the very top level – and he admitted Barcelona would be his first choice.
He told 11Freunde: “To celebrate possession football with this [Barca] team, alongside Lionel Messi, that would be a dream.
“I want to play the Champions League again.”
And on a potential Germany recall, Gotze added: “The best German players should come together in the national team, otherwise it will be difficult to survive against the big nations.

Lionel Messi on verge of matching Cristiano Ronaldo’s amazing free-kick record after goal in Barcelona win over Valencia

LIONEL MESSI moved within just one free-kick goal of rival Cristiano Ronaldo with his latest effort for Barcelona. The Argentine magician, 33, stepped up when his side desperately needed him with a double in the comeback 3-2 win at Valencia.

Lionel Messi scored his 56th career free-kick with his pearler against Valencia on SundayCredit: Reuters
It earned a crucial three points in the exciting Spanish title race, Barca keeping two points off leaders Atletico Madrid with four games to go.
Having scored after missing a penalty, Messi added his second and his side’s third on 69 minutes.
He clipped a delightful dead ball over the wall, curling away from the goalkeeper, in off the post for what proved to be the decider.
According to Opta, that was his 50th direct free-kick scored for Barcelona.
And, together with his six for Argentina, Messi moved on to 56 in his career.
That leaves him just one short of Cristiano Ronaldo on 57 – 47 in club football and ten on the international stage with Portugal.
By the end of 2011, Messi had just three club free-kicks but Ronaldo already had 22 for Manchester United and Real Madrid – including that famous strike against Portsmouth in 2008.
Both players have managed to score two free-kicks in the same game three times for their clubs.

Ronaldo, 36, brought up his 100th Portugal strike with his tenth international free-kick last September.
But his record with his efforts is pretty dismal in recent seasons.
He has just two club free-kicks since the start of the 2017-18 season, and none in league football.
As reported by Marca back in March, Opta stats showed £99million man Ronaldo had scored just one direct free-kick from 72 attempts for the Old Lady.
That solo success came last July in the derby against Torino, his 43rd effort.
But Juventus’ No3 stopper Carlo Pinsoglio insists he is far more clinical on the training ground.
He told Tuttosport: “In training, they all go in.
“Why doesn’t he score them in a match? I don’t know, obviously in a match it’s different than in training, but I don’t know. Bad luck maybe.”
