Memphis Depay completes Barcelona transfer as ex-Man Utd winger links up with Dutch boss Ronald Koeman

BARCELONA have officially announced the signing of Memphis Depay. The Dutchman, 27, had been strongly linked with a move to Catalonia for the last 12 months, since his former national team boss Ronald Koeman took the reins.

After allowing his Lyon contract to run down, the former Manchester United ace moves to Barca on a free transfer.
Memphis is the third free agent to join the LaLiga giants this summer, following in the footsteps of Man City pair Sergio Aguero and Eric Garcia.
The forward has signed a two-year deal with Barcelona.
Depay’s move comes as no surprise, with neither party having hidden their admiration for the other.
Currently on international duty with Holland at Euro 2020, Depay admitted that he was keen to play for his former boss again.
He said: “I want to play with Ronald Koeman.”
The 58-year-old was similarly open about the interest.
He admitted earlier this week: “I wanted to complete the deal in January and if he comes it is great for us.”

Depay initially burst onto the scene with PSV, scoring 50 goals in 124 appearances for the Dutch side between 2011 and 2015.
A move to Old Trafford followed, although he struggled to make a big impact.
After 53 games and seven goals for United, Memphis was on the move again, joining Lyon in 2017.
The attacker was a man revitalised in France, bagging 76 goals and laying on 55 assists in 178 games for the club – as well as helping them to a shock Champions League semi-final.
He has also won 66 caps for his country, scoring 27 times – with his most recent strike coming from the penalty spot against Austria at Euro 2020.

Such performances, as well as 17 goals last season for Sociedad, have attracted interest from the likes of Arsenal.
And the LaLiga side are taking steps to safeguard his value.
Sociedad bought Isak from Dortmund back in 2019, with the Bundesliga giants including a £26m buy-back clause.
According to Sport1, the two clubs are now in negotiations to remove the clause.
Isak, 21, has three years remaining on his deal in Spain, with Sociedad hoping to reward his form with a new contract.
The Basque side are expected to pay around £5m to remove Dortmund’s clause.
Sporting director of Dortmund Michael Zorc said: “Both clubs are working on a common solution.
“We are in good spirits that it will work.”

Isak has led the line well for Sweden, as his side have picked up a 0-0 draw against Spain and a 1-0 win over Slovakia.
The 6ft 4in ace nearly scored a wondergoal in the latter match, beating FIVE players before having a shot well saved.
After his impressive display, he was forced to ask who Gary Lineker is.
The former England star had sung Isak’s praises on Twitter, writing: “Don’t think there’s much doubt that Alexander Isak will attract a lot of attention from clubs across Europe. Exceptional talent.”
Told about the lofty praise, Isak said: “I am not that aware of him…
“It’s an old player working in the studio?”
He then added: “I wasn’t born then but I have a little bit of knowledge about him.”

Man Utd ‘willing to launch Pau Torres transfer bid’ but face competition from Real Madrid for Spain defender

MANCHESTER UNITED are willing to launch a transfer bid for Pau Torres, according to reports. But they face competition from Real Madrid for the defender’s signature.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants to bring in a new centre-back this summer as a long-term partner for Harry Maguire.
And according to AS, the Red Devils may make an official bid in the coming weeks.
Torres, 24, enjoyed a fine season with boyhood club Villarreal and capped it off by lifting the Europa League, beating United in a marathon penalty shootout.
He has been with the club since 2002, aged just five, and has racked up 88 first-team appearances, earning himself a starting spot for Spain at Euro 2020.
The report adds Villarreal would demand around £43million for their homegrown talent.
They are in no need to sell up immediately and he may want to stay to play Champions League football with his club next season.
But if United decide he is their No1 target in defence, they may well have to swoop sooner rather than later.
Real Madrid lost Sergio Ramos as a free agent while Raphael Varane’s Bernabeu future remains unclear.

BETTING SPECIAL: GET CRISTIANO RONALDO TO SCORE VS GERMANY AT 30/1

Los Blancos are in financial disarray so are unlikely to be able to afford Torres this summer, even if they sell Varane.
United have also been linked with Varane as well as his French team-mate Jules Kounde and Brighton’s Ben White, who Arsenal are chasing.
They look set to complete an £82m deal to sign Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund to bolster their attacking options, too.

Ronaldinho’s attempt to troll Sergio Ramos backfires after Real Madrid captain’s amazing response to Barcelona legend

RONALDINHO’S attempt to troll Sergio Ramos on Twitter backfired in dramatic fashion after the departing Los Blancos captain hit back.Barcelona legend Ronaldinho poked fun at the 35-year-old with a throwback snap of the pair but the Brazilian ended up with egg on his face.
Ronaldinho attempted to troll Sergio Ramos with this throwback snap
But Ramos hit back with this picture from the same season which fans online were loving
Ramos will leave the Bernabeu at the end of the month after 16 trophy-laden years with the Spanish giants.
He has played in countless Clasicos against Real’s bitter rivals Barcelona who Ronaldinho, 41, played for for five years between 2003 and 2008.
And the ex-AC Milan and Paris Saint-Germain wizard wanted to remind Ramos of a painful Clasico memory involving the pair.
He uploaded a picture of Ramos shadowing him with the ball and wrote: “Hey @SergioRamos – remember this night?!”
He may have been attempting to remind the centre-back of Barcelona’s 3-0 win at the Santiago Bernabeu during the 2005-06 season when Ronaldinho scored twice.
But the picture he shared was actually from the 2006-07 season when Madrid defeated Barcelona 2-0 at the Bernabeu.
Real won their 30th LaLiga title at the end of that campaign and Ramos was quick to remind the genius of his mistake.
The Spaniard replied with a picture of Real’s open-top bus title parade through Madrid with the jubilant Real squad surrounded by thousands of delighted Madridistas.

And he wrote: “I do… but this one a few months later was way better.”
Ramos played 671 times for Real after a £23million move from Sevilla in 2005, scoring an incredible 101 goals during a 16-year spell.
He led Real to numerous trophies, including five LaLiga titles, four Champions Leagues and two Copa del Reys.
Ramos is also the most capped player in Spain’s history despite missing out on their Euros squad, representing his country 180 times.
New Real boss Carlo Ancelotti was eager for Ramos to stay.
But Los Blancos were only offering a one-year contract on reduced pay, and Ramos claims he missed a deadline to respond to the offer.
Ramos was in floods of tears at his farewell press conference.
He has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United with the Red Devils said to have a ‘clear path’ after PSG reportedly pulled out because of his £200,000-a-week wage demands.
And he has ruled out joining another club in Spain and says he will return to Real Madrid one day.

Antoine Griezmann confirms plan to make MLS transfer after Barcelona contract ends and see out career in US

ANTOINE GRIEZMANN has confirmed that he wants to end his career in America after his contract with Barcelona expires. The 30-year-old forward is preparing to make his 50th consecutive start for France today against Hungary and help them seal a place in the last-16 of Euro 2020.

He headed to the Nou Camp from Atletico Madrid back in 2019 and has only helped the Catalans to one Copa del Rey during that period.
Griezmann will be desperate to lift both LaLiga and the Champions League for the club – but it appears he has another aspiration he wants to fulfil before hanging up his boots.
Speaking ahead of his country’s clash, he said: “My contract with Barcelona runs until June 2024 and after that I think it will be the right time to go to the United States.
“I love this country, this culture, the NBA and the desire for discovery guides me, but I also have a family.
“I would love to end my career there but being good on the pitch and winning MLS, not coming in with nothing left in your legs and looking like nothing else on the pitch.”
Meanwhile, ahead of winning his 93rd French cap, his national boss Didier Deschamps hailed Griezmann as ‘one of the greatest’ ever.
“He (will) beat a record, you’re right,” Deschamps told a press conference.
“Above and beyond the fact that he’s playing in consecutive games, and wonderfully so for him, for all his game-volume, he may not be 20 years old anymore, but he takes very good care of himself.”

Deschamps, who guided Griezmann and Les Bleus to World Cup joy in 2018, added: “He’s a professional and he’s managed to avoid the different injuries that he could have had. The statistics speak for themselves.
“You can see the influence that he has for the French national team, through the goals that he scores, through his assists.
“If we then add to that the capacity that he has to change the game, to get stuck in when we need to defend when we don’t have the ball, he’s one of the greatest players of all time, both in Europe and worldwide.”

Man Utd interested in Raphael Varane transfer from Real Madrid but yet to decide on opening offer amid £50m bid rumours

The Red Devils are determined to sign a new partner for Harry Maguire this summer, in the hope of generating a Premier League title challenge.
It had been reported by Manchester Evening News that an offer of £50million was sent to Real – and swiftly rejected.
Los Blancos were said to have asked for £80m despite their player being just a year away from leaving for free.
Talks over a new contract have failed to progress and it had previously been suggested that Real would cash in if Varane refused to sign.
A fee of £80m would be difficult to meet for any team in the pandemic crisis, including United who are also discussing a deal for Jadon Sancho.
However, the club will be able to offer Varane a pre-agreement contract to join as a free agent in January if he does not commit to Real.
By that point it is expected a host of rivals would also join the race to sign the France international.
