But it is more than possible, Ronaldo and Silva were topics of conversation too.
CR7 starred for Real Madrid for nine years but may be considering a January switch to their biggest enemies.
Laporta already admitted the parties held discussions in the summer.
At the presentation of Franck Kessie, the Barca boss openly described his meeting with Mendes.

He said: “I had dinner with Jorge Mendes and we talked about the market in general.
“Cristiano? I’m not going to talk about players we discussed at the meeting, but it’s always good to know how some names are on the market.”
Reports surfaced recently in Spain saying that the Catalan club were planning to relaunch a bid for Silva in January.
The LaLiga giants failed in an attempt to sign the Man City ace, 28, in the summer transfer window.
And talks may have already reignited in the restaurant meeting on Thursday.
Despite their financial woes, La Blaugrana managed to spend almost £150million on new recruits – bringing in Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha, Frank Kessie, Andrea Christensen, Jules Kounde, Marcos Alonso and Hector Bellerin.

Atletico Madrid ‘want Liverpool star Roberto Firmino transfer with Klopp to lose another of his Big 3 after Mane exit’

The Brazilian’s contract is up in 2023, and despite a strong start to the season it appears he will not be rewarded with a new deal.
Instead, Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone wants to offer Firmino an escape route.
The energetic boss already has a stacked fron line that includes the likes of Antoine Griezmann and Joao Felix.
However, according to TodoFichajes, he believes Firmino would be the perfect player to complement them.

Firmino is more than comfortable dropping deep to create space for his team-mates and can also equally spearhead the team’s press.
His exploits were key when Liverpool won the title, allowing Mane and Mohamed Salah to shine brightly thanks to his unselfish style.
And at Atletico, such hardworking players are a necessity.
But Firmino’s time in the Premier League may not be over, even if he leaves Anfield.

Barcelona ‘can’t afford £18m Champions League KO after ambitiously budgeting for quarters as group stage exit looms’

BARCELONA are set to be plunged into an even deeper financial crisis as they stand on the brink of exiting the Champions League in the group stage. The Catalan giants could only muster a 3-3 draw at home to Inter Milan on Wednesday night, a result which leaves them on the verge of being eliminated.

Mundo Deportivo are reporting that Barca are set for more financial turmoil
It means a win for Inter at home to Viktoria Plzen on October 26 would see them qualify as runners-up in the group behind Bayern Munich.
And that could have a crippling economic consequence for Barcelona.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Barca face an £18m cash shortage if they exit in the group stage.
This is because their £132m investment in the team over the summer was reportedly under the provision that they would reach the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

Clubs receive around £8.3m for qualifying for the last 16 and a further £9.3m for getting through to the last eight.
Barca are set to miss out on that windfall and it could have a major impact on their ability to pay for their spending in the transfer window.
Even if they drop down to the Europa League, winning the competition would only bring in £13m.
Barca’s financial crisis has rumbled on for more than a year, with the Spanish side struggling to register players in recent seasons.

But they have continued to spend big in the transfer market, with the likes of Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha, Franck Kessie, Jules Kounde and Andreas Christensen all coming in during the summer.
And they do currently sit top of LaLiga, ahead of Real Madrid on goal difference.
But in Europe they haven’t been able to make their investment count.
And while Lewandowski did score a stoppage-time equaliser against Inter to keep their slim hopes of qualification for the last 16 alive, it only appears to have delayed the inevitable. More

Rudiger headed in late on but collided with the Ukrainian side’s goalkeeper Anatoliy Trubin and was left with an awful cut on his forehead.
Blood poured down his face on to his kit and the ex-Chelsea man was rushed into the treatment room after the final whistle.
The behind-the-scenes clip shows Rudiger walking to the dressing room with towels covering his face and trying to stop the bleeding.
The 29-year-old is then told to lie down on a massage table where a team of Real Madrid medics begin work.

As they begin to stitch up his forehead many teammates come in to see if he is OK such as David Alaba, who gives him a kiss on the forehead.
Toni Kroos also visits with the midfielder and grimaces – before letting out a cheeky grin – as he sees his horrible injury.
As the doctors patch Rudiger up, Marcos Asensio, Eden Hazard, Luka Modric and even manager Carlo Ancelotti come in to wish him well.
Within minutes the treatment is over and Rudiger bounces back up and heads for the team’s main dressing room.

The Champions League holders’ doctor Felipe Segura then explains what his team have done to him.
The love for Rudiger from his team-mates is justified as the draw with Shakhtar thanks to his goal puts Los Blancos through to the knockout stages.
And fans have praised him for his toughness calling him an “actual warrior” online, while others enjoyed seeing the team spirit as one fan said Alaba and Kroos acted like “mum and dad”.
Real Madrid face Barcelona in the El Classico at the weekend and there is reportedly hope Rudiger could be fit but may have to wear a mask to protect his cut.
This will not be the first time he may have to wear a protective measure on the pitch, he wore one often at Chelsea to support his bones after sustaining a facial injury last year.
He continued to wear it for Germany saying he put it on for added protection so he doesn’t have to worry about getting stuck in. More

La Liga Chief Javier Tebas Takes His Feud With PSG President to Court

A multimillion-dollar dispute between the Spanish league and its Qatari broadcast partner, beIN Media Group, is the latest flare-up in the battle between two of the most powerful men in soccer. For months, it seemed, the feud between the leader of Spain’s top soccer league and the president of the Qatar-owned French team Paris St.-Germain has played out noisily, and in public.Javier Tebas, the outspoken president of La Liga, would regularly criticize Paris St.-Germain and its Qatari leaders, accusing them of flagrantly breaking European soccer’s financial rules. And occasionally, the P.S.G. president, Nasser al-Khelaifi, would respond to Tebas with his own accusations, questioning the health of Spanish soccer, or trade barbs with him in the news media and in speeches. The more high-stakes fight, it turns out, was taking place behind the scenes. This week, after almost two months of wrangling, Tebas and La Liga secured a court order to freeze tens of millions of dollars of the assets of beIN Media Group, the Qatar-owned broadcast network headed by al-Khelaifi, in a dispute over unpaid broadcast-rights payments.BeIN, one of the most prolific spenders on broadcast rights in the world, owns the rights to La Liga matches in swaths of Asia and the Middle East as well as some key European markets. But according to a court document reviewed by The New York Times, the network had so far failed to pay more than 50 million euros it owed the Spanish league for this season’s games. In the 11-page order, the court said it had frozen the assets because of the risk that the funds would be repatriated to Qatar.BeIN Media Group learned about the case, and the order freezing its assets, from a New York Times reporter. “Our reputation is founded on decades of significant investment, best-in-class broadcasting, long-term and trusted relationships with rights-holders, and a track record of payment,” the company said in a statement. The beIN spokesman said 10 million euros of the debt had been repaid on Oct. 5. But the company said it would not discuss its private, contractual discussions with La Liga or any rights-holder, adding, “That is not how business should be conducted, certainly not by professional and dignified institutions.”The outstanding debt represents only a fraction of the money beIN Media Group has paid over the years to La Liga, with industry estimates suggesting the total amount contracted between the league and the network to be as much as $1.5 billion since 2018.Delays in payments to sports organizations are not uncommon, either, with broadcasters often known to negotiate payment plans with their partners. What is uncommon is the lengths La Liga has gone to ensure it receives the money it says it is owed. BeIN continues to broadcast La Liga games across its networks. The case is certain to bring renewed focus on the influence in soccer of Qatar, which in addition to hosting next month’s World Cup also plays a leading role in European soccer through its free-spending ownership of P.S.G., the dominant force in French soccer, and beIN, which has paid out billions of dollars to acquire the broadcast rights to some of soccer’s top competitions. But it also will shine a spotlight on the influence of al-Khelaifi, whose simultaneous roles as the chairman of P.S.G. and beIN Media Group and as a board member of European soccer’s governing body, UEFA, have made him one of the most influential figures in the sport.Al-Khelaifi has for years emphatically denied the accusation that he wields too much power given his various roles; he has said that in the past, he sought legal advice whenever such conflicts have arisen and that he regularly recuses himself from meetings in which his various roles could clash.Qatar’s beIN Media Group is a prolific buyer and broadcaster of European soccer matches.Olya Morvan for The New York TimesTebas told The New York Times that beIN has been delaying payments since last year, and he rejected the network’s claim that it was facing financial challenges, saying, “I don’t believe them.”Instead, Tebas suggested, the broadcaster is attempting to renegotiate its deals with La Liga, which cover territories stretching from France to the Middle East and Asia to New Zealand. But Tebas also suggested there was another motive for the missed payments: He said they were an effort to pressure him to relent in his criticisms of al-Khelaifi. In June, for example, Tebas filed a complaint with UEFA in which he accused P.S.G. and Manchester City, another team backed by a Gulf state, of being in “continuous breach” of the organization’s financial regulations.“He knows exactly what he is doing,” Tebas said of al-Khelaifi. “He’s trying to get to the point where clubs will tell the president of the league we prefer to get the money and have you talk less.”BeIN made its disdain for Tebas clear in its response. “If we ran our operations reacting to certain executive’s comments on others within the sports industry, we wouldn’t be in business,” the company said.Much of Tebas’s fury about P.S.G., and al-Khelaifi, stems from the French club’s ability to lure star players from La Liga, spending that he contends has unfairly altered the game’s economics. In 2017, P.S.G. broke the world transfer record when it paid 222 million euros, at the time more than double the highest amount previously paid for a player, to acquire the Brazilian star Neymar from Barcelona. It also managed to lure Lionel Messi to Paris in 2021 after Barcelona could not afford to renew his contract. And earlier this year, P.S.G. paid the French star Kylian Mbappé a signing-on fee of more than $100 million to reject the overtures of Real Madrid. While other soccer leagues and executives have privately expressed concerns about the spending by state-owned teams, Tebas has been by far the most outspoken. “People in football are cowards,” Tebas said Wednesday, explaining why others have not been as outspoken as he has about the market-altering influence of teams like P.S.G. and Manchester City. “Football executives always want to make sure they have good relations and eat well instead of stepping outside their comfort zone.”Al-Khelaifi has had little use for Tebas’s critiques; in June, he said he would not take lessons from Tebas, suggesting what the Spaniard had to say was not relevant. For UEFA, the running dispute between two of its most prominent voices is proving to be awkward because both Tebas and al-Khelaifi are members of its executive board. The latest court fight will do little to lower the temperature, and it is not over. The ruling freezing beIN’s assets, according to the document, is only a temporary measure; the court will hold a full hearing on the merits of the case, but the timetable is unclear. The diminutive maestro started his country’s Nations League clash with Wales last month as they edged to a 2-1 victory.
And his status as a benchwarmer for Ancelotti’s side is something which has him worried less than two months out from the World Cup in Qatar.

“I know what I can do when I play.
“I want to play the maximum number of minutes and get to the World Cup in shape.”

But he and Xavi used to rule Europe at their pomp and played in what many consider to be one of the best midfields of all time during Barcelona’s hay days under Pep Guardiola.
Now 38, Iniesta is looking forward to the next stage in his footballing career.
And he has suggested that could even include replacing his old teammate as Barcelona boss.
He told Gazetta dello Sport: “I’ll continue at Vissel Kobe for another year… and then we’ll see. I would love to return to Barca.

They top LaLiga on goal difference ahead of rivals Real Madrid as Xavi approaches his one year anniversary as Nou Camp boss.

But it was far from plain sailing for the coach who saw his side knocked out the Champions League group stages and face embarrassing home league losses to the likes of Cadiz, Real Betis and Rayo Vallecano.
But the club are showing clear signs of recovery following several crises, including the infamous 8-2 defeat to Bayern, the loss of club legend Lionel Messi and crippling financial issues.

Scots footballer Zander Murray concerned by ‘shockingly homophobic’ response to Iker Casillas ‘coming out’ Tweet

SCOTTISH footballer Zander Murray has spoken of his concern regarding what he’s described as ‘shockingly homophobic’ responses to Iker Casillas’ ‘coming out’ Tweet. He also believes ex-Spain no.1 Casillas and ex-teammate Carles Puyol showed a clear lack of education surrounding the matter with their social media posts.

Murray, who publicly revealed he was gay last month, also revealed his concern at the message the situation – and the response to it – has sent out to young footballers who might be struggling with their own sexuality.
The ex-Spain goalkeeper Casillas has claimed his Twitter account was hacked after a post on his page said: “I hope you respect me. I’m gay.”
He believes that Casillas and former international teammate Puyol, who responded to the Tweet, didn’t deliberately intend to cause harm with their posts, but reckons they showed a clear ‘lack of education.’
The comment remained on Casillas’ page for over an hour before being deleted.
Puyol replied to the post saying: “It’s time to tell our story, Iker,” alongside a heart and kiss emoji.
The ex-Barcelona defender subsequently deleted his Tweet as well before he then apologised for what he described as a ‘clumsy joke.’
He said: “I have made a mistake. Sorry for a clumsy joke with no bad intentions and totally out of place.
“I understand that it may have hurt sensitivities. All my respect and support for the LGTBIQA+ community.”
    Most read in Football
Despite Casillas’ claims of being hacked, reports in Spain have suggested that his initial tweet could have been posted in response to rife magazine rumours about his post-divorce dating life.
However, after deleting his Tweet, he said: “Hacked account. Luckily everything in order. Apologies to all my followers. And of course, more apologies to the LGBT community.”
The posts have been blasted in some quarters, with Australian star Josh Cavallo, who came out as gay last year, branding the players’ actions as “beyond disrespectful.”
Last month, Gala Fairydean striker Zander Murray became the first player in Scottish football’s senior leagues to come out as gay.
In the wake of Casillas and Puyol’s tweets, the 30-year old took to Twitter to have his own say on the matter.

Murray stated his dismay at the “shockingly homophobic” responses to the tweets and spoke of his concern surrounding the message it sends to footballers who are struggling with their own sexuality.
He also said the former Spanish internationals displayed a ‘lack of education’ around the issue.
The Scots striker said: “The majority of comments under Casillas’ initial post were shockingly homophobic and highlights the global issues we are dealing with.
“What message does that give to younger/current footballers that are struggling with their sexuality!?
“I genuinely believe Casillas and Puyol never intended to hurt anyone.
“Puyol’s response in holding his hands up – fair play. Although it’s clear the lack of education both have around this matter.
“The bile and hatred being directed at the LGBTQIA+ community and players in responding sickens me.
“Yes, open a debate, but some of the insults are horrendous.
“Life’s tough enough, stop pretending you’re this wee hardman on Twitter when you’re probably going through stuff yourself. #bekind”
