The Sun’s new betting show Weekend Wager hits the target thanks to Fulham star who delivered against Man Utd

SUNSPORT’S Weekend Wager got off to a flying start – with a 17/2 tip that came in after just 18 minutes. In the first of our weekly shows digging out the best value bets from the sporting world, our betting experts racked their brains to preview the sporting weekend.Alex Iwobi delivered a 17/2 tip from SunSport’s Weekend WagerCredit: GettyOur new weekly betting show provides the perfect preview to the weekend’s sporting actionCredit: SunSportAnd that included a superb tip from Betfair’s guru James Mackie.Mackie’s suggestion for Fulham’s home clash with Manchester United on Sunday night was all about Alex Iwobi. On the show, he said: “I’ve just gone for a single selection here. And I think it’s actually a bit of hidden value here. It’s 17/2 for Alex Iwobi to have two shots on target.“If you look at some of the stats around Iwobi, he’s had two first shots in each of his last five matches. Including three shots on target in his last three.READ MORE ON FOOTBALL“He has been absolutely superb under Silva. That front four have been absolutely brilliant and Iwobi’s been a big part of that.“If you look on the side, he’s going to play against Diogo Dalot or Noussair Mazraoui.“They give up opportunities, left, right and centre. I think it’s a cracking bet.”And so it proved. Most read in FootballBest new sign-up offersSunSport exclusivesBecause after just 18 MINUTES at Craven Cottage, Iwobi had already registered two shots on target and the 17/2 tip had come in.That was not the only success Mackie enjoyed this weekend, either.Man Utd’s Player Ratings vs FulhamHe also had East India Dock to win the 1.15 at Cheltenham on Saturday. He caught the value as he tipped James Owen’s hurdler at evens – with the 4-year-old winning by a massive TEN LENGTHS after being backed in to 1/2.Mackie added: “The last Cheltenham meeting before the Cheltenham Festival in March. Seven unbelievable trials for that four days in March.“I’ve gone for at Cheltenham, look, it’s not going to blow anyone away. It’s even money.“It’s one to start you off for your day before the football begins at three o’clock. It’s the East India Dock to win the 1.15 at Cheltenham.“This horse, he won last time out at Cheltenham in a Grade 2 Triumph Trial in November and I personally think this should be shorter. He’s only run twice over hurdles. He’s improved from run to run.“He was a brilliant flat horse and I think he’s going places for trainer James Owen this season.”“The angle to take with him, though, if you don’t want to take the short price of even money, he’s 6/1 for the Triumph Hurdle at the Festival. I think he’ll be about three or two to one after winning.“So maybe the angle is to play the anti-post market at a bigger price and watch and have a really nice ticket when it comes to the Cheltenham Festival.”READ MORE SUN STORIESEast India Dock is indeed now 11/4 for the Triumph Hurdle, the first race on the final day of the festival. Our next episode of Weekend Wager will drop on Friday – giving you plenty of time to place your bets before another blockbuster set of sporting fixtures.Remember to gamble responsiblyA responsible gambler is someone who:Establishes time and monetary limits before playingOnly gambles with money they can afford to loseNever chase their lossesDoesn’t gamble if they’re upset, angry, or depressedGamcare – www.gamcare.org.ukGamble Aware – www.gambleaware.orgFind our detailed guide on responsible gambling practices here. For help with a gambling problem, call the National Gambling Helpline on 0808 8020 133 or go to www.gamstop.co.ukEast India Dock won the 1.15 at Cheltenham – as tipped on Weekend WagerCredit: PA More

Fans stunned with one team ‘set to host a racecourse’ in sensational FA Cup round one draw blunder

I’m former Man Utd star who scored five goals in a match – but all I could think about was a £600 tip at Newmarket

IPSWICH legend Alan Brazil has opened up about the time he scored five goals in match – while being distracted by a horse racing tip.Brazil, who also played for Manchester United and Tottenham, shared the incredible story and spoke about the sad passing of Gary Shaw and his hopes for the Tractor Boys this season.Alan Brazil once scored five goals in a match for IpswichAlan Brazil has been working for talkSPORT for 25 yearsCredit: RexBrazil told SunSport…I HAD an unusual build up to this game — waiting to hear if I had won £600 on a hot tip I had been given for Newmarket. It was in the days when betting shops were a fog of cigarette smoke and I remember being desperate for the money so it was an agonising wait for the photograph and steward’s inquiry. Then, when I got to the dressing room I had a really good feeling that I was going to score a hat-trick. I even told team-mate Johnny Wark.READ MORE IN FOOTBALLIt was bizarre I should feel that way because we were up against a fantastic Southampton team who were top of the table with some class players in Kevin Keegan, Micky Channon and Alan Ball. And we were missing the key spine of our side in Paul Mariner, Frans Thijssen and Terry Butcher through injuries.Call it a sixth sense, but to then go out and score my first hat-trick in the opening 19 minutes was pretty incredible. In fact, I hit three in a five-minute spell between the 14th and 19th minute — with South African strike-partner Mich d’Avray assisting the first two and Kevin Steggles’ long ball sending me through for my treble. Most read in FootballFOOTBALL FREE BETS AND SIGN UP DEALSIt was one of those games when everything I did just clicked.Mich — standing in for Mariner — laid the ball into my path for No 4 and Eric Gates made the fifth for me, both in the second half.Despite scoring five goals, I have two regrets from the game.Ipswich forced into series of stadium changes for Premier League including ref massage room and Wag-friendly VIP boxesOne is that I should have had SIX! Right at the end, I squared the ball to d’Avray when I’m confident I would have scored — and he blasted over. But most frustratingly, this was the only game my wife, Jill, missed that season. It was an evening kick-off and she was running late getting home from work. I told her it was going to be a tough game against top-of-the-table Southampton, so she stayed at home instead.Another funny footnote is that back then we only mainly played with one match ball and it had been kicked out of the ground during the second half. The local paper organised a campaign to try to find it and get it back to me and sure enough it was found about ten days later!I scored 28 goals for Ipswich that season, in all competitions, and I vividly remember four days after hitting these five goals I scored one of the best goals of my career in a 2-0 victory at Leeds. When you look at the league table, both ourselves and Liverpool were sixth and seventh but we had games in hand on all the teams above us.We went on a great run picking up 13 wins between this game and the end of the season, yet were still overtaken by Liverpool. They went unbeaten in their last 15, picking up 41 out of possible 45 points. They were an incredible side.It was the second successive season where we finished runners-up, having been just pipped to top spot by Aston Villa, a side in which Gary Shaw played such a huge part with 18 league goals.Gary Shaw passed away aged 63 earlier this weekCredit: RexI was devastated to have to talk about his passing this week at just 63 years of age. He was an outstanding goalscorer. It’s mad to think this game was over 42 years ago, but then I have been presenting at talkSPORT for 25 years.I was reliably informed the day after this five-goal haul, Saints’ manager Lawrie McMenemy got in touch with Scotland manager Jock Stein and told him that I should be part of his World Cup squad for the finals in Spain. As a result I was called up and was the youngest member of the squad. It remains one of my proudest moments to have kicked off Scotland’s finals campaign against New Zealand — a 5-2 victory in Malaga.Talking of pride, the wonderful story of Ipswich climbing from League One back to the Premier League this season is brilliant for my old club and its fans. The next greatest achievement for manager Kieran McKenna and the squad is to stay in the top flight. Anything 17th or above will feel like a trophy-winning campaign for me.READ MORE SUN STORIESI have such a huge affiliation to the club having started my career and spent seven unforgettable years at Portman Road.I still live between Ipswich and Colchester and to see the buzz in the area, with banners and the feel-good factor from McKenna and the club, has brought all the memories flooding back of our golden era.Brazil reckons Kieran McKenna can bring the glory days back to IpswichCredit: Getty More
