Anthony Joshua record: What belts does British heavyweight boxing star hold, who has he beaten and when did he turn pro?

ANTHONY JOSHUA has been selling out stadiums and performing in big fights for years now.
But on December 12, AJ will fight in front of just 1,000 fans at Wembley Arena in his first bout of 2020 – and the coronavirus pandemic.

Kubrat Pulev stands between Joshua and a money-spinning fight with Tyson Fury.
But it should be just another day at the office for the Brit superstar, who is becoming a bigger boxing legend with every fight.
    What is Anthony Joshua’s record?
Anthony Joshua’s professional boxing record is 23-1, with his sole loss coming against Andy Ruiz in June 2019.
Joshua has 21 knockouts from his 23 wins, with fights against Joseph Parker and Ruiz Jr going the distance.

What world title belts does Anthony Joshua hold?
Joshua first became a world champion back in 2016, when he won the IBF title from Charles Martin.
The Watford-born star then added the vacant WBA and IBO titles to his collection when he knocked out Wladimir Klitschko in 2017.

AJ then picked up the WBO world title from Parker in 2018, beating the New Zealander in a cagey affair in Cardiff.
Joshua lost all four belts to Ruiz Jr and was stopped by the Mexican in the process, before winning them back on points last December.

    Who has Anthony Joshua beaten?
Joshua was a highly-touted prospect from the moment he turned pro, when Eddie Hearn signed him to Matchroom.
He raced out to 12-0 before taking on Kevin Johnson at the O2 as the main event in 2015, knocking the American out in the second round.
Then came Joshua’s first big pay-per-view night against Dillian Whyte, knocking the Body Snatcher out in the seventh round.

Since then, Joshua has performed solely on pay-per-view, with the majority of his fights being contested in packed stadiums.
Joshua has picked up big wins over Dominic Breazeale, Eric Molina, Klitschko, Carlos Takam, Parker, Alexander Povetkin and Ruiz Jr.
When did Anthony Joshua turn professional?
Joshua turned professional back in 2013, a year after winning gold at the 2012 Olympic Games in London.
The 31-year-old was sought after by numerous promoters but ultimately signed a deal with Hearn and Matchroom.
Joshua has remained with Matchroom and Sky Sports in the UK ever since. More

Lennox Lewis reveals mum’s hilarious comeback after Mike Tyson warned heavyweight champ ‘I want to eat your children’

LENNOX LEWIS revealed his mum’s hilarious reaction after Mike Tyson warned her son: ‘I want to eat your children’.
Tyson had just beaten Lou Savarese in 38 seconds in 2000 when he produced the infamous line to Showtime’s Jim Gray.

Mike Tyson during his infamous interview with Jim Gray

But the threat left Lewis’ mum Violet bemused – because the heavyweight champion had no kids at the time.
Lewis told the Guardian: “When he said he’s coming for me, I’m like: ‘He’s coming for me? He’s crazy. Doesn’t he realise I’m coming for him?’
“When he said he’s going to eat my kids my mum said: ‘What’s he talking about? You don’t have no kids.’
“I’m not into that vulgar jailhouse talk.”

The post-fight rant – where Tyson boasted of being ‘the best ever’ – will forever be remembered as one of Iron Mike’s most chilling interviews.
He said: “Lennox Lewis, I’m coming for you.
“I’m the most brutal and vicious and ruthless champion there has ever been.
“Lennox is a conqueror? No. I am Alexander. He’s no Alexander. I’m the best ever.

“My style is impetuous, my defence is impregnable and I’m just ferocious.
“I want your heart. I want to eat his children.”
Despite Tyson’s dramatic message, he would go on to be beaten in round eight as Lewis comprehensively ended their rivalry in 2002.
The two heavyweight legends shared a history dating back to their teens, where they dominated as amateur champions and even sparred each other.
They were destined to meet in the ring again, as predicted by Tyson’s iconic mentor Cus D’Amato.
Lewis revealed: “We got to know each other pretty well. We spoke, we went down to the town, went to a dance together.
“He was a giant because during training in the Catskills you’d watch him knocking people out easy. I thought he was great.
“When the time came I knew we would meet in the ring. I wanted to know if what Cus said would come true.”

Lennox Lewis reveals 15-year-old Mike Tyson was ‘giant’ who ‘knocked people out with ease’ after facing him in sparring

LENNOX LEWIS has revealed that 15-year-old Mike Tyson was a ‘giant’ who was ‘knocking people out easy’.
The Lion memorably beat Iron Mike when they collided in 2002 but they first shared a ring together as teenage sparring partners.

Lennox Lewis sparred Mike Tyson for a number of days in Catskill, New York

The Brit later shared a ring with Iron Mike in a 2002 grudge match

Lewis prevailed with an eighth-round knockout against Tyson

The British icon left Canada with his first trainer Arnie Boehm to drive to Tyson’s New York base after winning the World Junior Championships.
And Lewis lifted the lid on his first experience meeting the Baddest Man on the Planet – who at the time was a year younger than him at age 15.
He told the Guardian: “I liked him. We got to know each other pretty well. We spoke, we went down to the town, went to a dance together.
“He was a giant because during training in the Catskills you’d watch him knocking people out easy. I thought he was great.

“When the time came I knew we would meet in the ring. I wanted to know if what Cus (D’Amato) said would come true.”
Both Lewis and Tyson went on become heavyweight champion of the world numerous times and finally fought in 2002.
Brit star Lewis came out on top with an eighth-round KO but they were also involved in a infamous press conference brawl ahead of the fight.
Tyson was forced to pay a fine for biting his rival’s leg during the scuffle – which almost saw the mega-fight cancelled altogether.

Yet despite this, Lewis wasn’t left feeling too apprehensive at facing Iron Mike after he was promised it would be his easiest fight.
He added: “Yes and no. Yes, because TV made him look like King Kong. But, no, because Manny [Lewis’s legendary trainer Emanuel Steward] always told me Tyson would be my easiest fight.
“I’d say: ‘Come on, now. He’s going to be a little difficult.’ But Manny said: ‘No. It’s your easiest fight.’”

Tyson Fury shows off his and Mike Tyson’s incredible body transformations after shedding almost 22 STONE combined

TYSON FURY took to social media to show off his and Mike Tyson’s epic body transformations after returning to the ring after lengthy periods out.
The Gypsy King and the Baddest Man on the Planet have shed almost an incredible 22 stone between them.

Tyson Fury uploaded these pictures of himself and Mike Tyson

Fury, 32, was inactive for almost three years after dethroning Wladimir Klitschko in November 2015.
During that time, he ballooned up to 28 stone, but he has since got himself back into brilliant shape.
The unbeaten WBC champion walked into his rematch in February against Deontay Wilder at around 18 stone according to his former trainer Ben Davison.
Former world champ Tyson, 54, also struggled with weight problems following his defeat to Kevin McBride in 2005.

At his heaviest he weighed 27 stone, but he got himself into peak condition when he fought for the first time in 15 years against Roy Jones Jr last weekend.
For his exhibition bout in Los Angeles, Iron Mike weighed in at 15st 7lbs – lighter than his 1986 world title victory against Trevor Berbick.
And Fury took to Twitter where he posted before and now pictures of the pair, as he said: “Friday inspiration from the 2 TYSONs. @MikeTyson – Hard work pays off.”
It has been revealed that Fury got himself into shape by eating six meals a day, combined with training up to four times day.

Mike Tyson’s incredible bodyweight workout routine

After shedding four stone, Tyson revealed he lost a further 100lbs in the build-up to his fight against Jones Jr.
Speaking of how he managed to do it, he said: “I became a vegan.
“My wife told me to get on a treadmill. So I went from 15 minutes on the treadmill and ended at two hours.
“I kept going to the gym and watching my diet and I’m beautiful.”

Tyson Fury’s incredible family dynasty with NINE pro boxers as cousin Hughie prepares for Anthony Joshua undercard fight

TYSON FURY has revealed that his younger brother Roman is set to become the NINTH professional boxer in his family.
The WBC heavyweight champion’s 23-year-old sibling has no amateur experience but has been training with the Gypsy King during lockdown.

Tyson Fury’s younger brother Roman, middle, has taken up boxingTyson Fury, 32, is already one of the best heavyweight boxers in the world, with his younger brother, Love Island star Tommy, 21, is 4-0 in the light-heavyweight division.
Roman had been intending to follow a different career path before taking up boxing with his siblings over the past few months.
Tyson told iFL TV in September: “Just signing him [Roman] up now, he’s 23-years-old, he’s an aspiring cruiserweight champion of the future.
“Southpaw, tall, 6ft 2ins, in good shape.

Hasn’t had any amateur fights, but he’s been around the game a long time so born and bred into it
Tyson Fury on his brother Roman

“We’re gonna try and get him – when the boxing starts again – maybe four or five fights within the boxing season and keep him busy for the next couple of years.
“He’s learning on the job, like Canelo was. Gonna get him to about 20-0 before we move him up.
“He’s 23, nearly 24. Hasn’t had any amateur fights, but he’s been around the game a long time so born and bred into it.
“We’ll get him a few fights and see how he goes on. Sugar Hill’s teaching him that Kronk style, he’s learning.”

Roman, like his brother Shane, had kept a relatively low profile in the Fury family with Tyson, Tommy both boxing stars.
His cousin Hughie – who has been added to the undercard for Anthony Joshua’s bout against Kubrat Pulev – is also a 23-3 fighter.
He explained in the iFL interview: “When lockdown happened I had nothing else to do.
“I had no work on, as many people didn’t, and I had the opportunity to go and train.
“So I did it, got fit, lost a bit of weight and I just fell in love with it.

I’ve put everything on hold and I’m gonna give it my best and see how we go…It’s like an experiment, I wanna see how far I can go
    Roman Fury

“I thought, ‘I’ve always wanted to do it, so why not now?’
“So I’ve put everything on hold and I’m gonna give it my best and see how we go…It’s like an experiment, I wanna see how far I can go.
“Just started it now at 23, but it’s all about self-belief and I do have a lot of that.”
Roman said his older brother Tyson told him if he is going to become a boxer he has to be a hundred percent committed.

He added: “He [Tyson] just said listen, if you want to do it that badly, you can, it’s never too late.
“But you need to put a hundred percent in, everything you’ve got, no slacking, no doing out on the weekends, nothing like that, you’ve got to completely dedicate yourself.
“He’s not said it’s too late for you, give it up and all that, he’s been nothing but supportive, same as Tommy – same as everyone, the whole family.”

When will Anthony Joshua fight Tyson Fury? British heavyweight mega bout date and proposed venue

BOXING’s biggest fight Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury could take place TWICE next year.
Joshua and Fury have been back and forth over a potential mega-clash for years and finally the stars look to be aligning.

AJ must first beat Kubrat Pulev on December 12 before throwing himself into an incredibly lucrative 2021.
Fury, on the other hand, still looks to be waiting for a ruling from a judge on Deontay Wilder’s demand for a trilogy rematch.
When could Joshua vs Fury happen?
While there’s no definitive date as of yet, May or June 2021 seem to be the two dates being floated around by promoter Eddie Hearn.
Fury and Joshua both verbally agreed a two-fight deal to take place next year, during the summer.

Anthony Joshua is in peak physical condition ahead of the Pulev clash
It was expected that Joshua and Fury would fight after respective fights with Pulev and wilder.
But Fury’s clash with Wilder doesn’t look to be happening, so the Gypsy King could go straight into a Joshua fight having not fought for at least 15 months.
Where will the fight take place?
Much has been made of the potential venue for Joshua vs Fury, with both the UK and the Middle East in the running,
Joshua told SunSport in an exclusive interview earlier this week that he’d be willing to take a pay cut in order for the fight to happen in Britain.

Wembley Stadium would be the ideal venue to hold the mega-fight, but countries such as Dubai, Qatar and Saudi Arabia are all looking to invest heavily in big boxing events.

Saudi Arabia hosted Joshua’s last fight with Andy Ruiz Jr last December.
“Yeah, why not? Now I’m fighting Kubrat Pulev for a massive pay cut,” he said.
“We have to keep the sport alive, Matchroom are taking pay cuts this year, we have to keep the sport alive.
“We are all doing our part at the minute, It’s all experience. We are doing it now so I wouldn’t mind doing it again.
“It’s not harming me, and it’s for a bigger cause as well, it’s a massive cause and a big fight but the main objective is how do we get Fury in the ring.”
What about mandatory challenger Oleksandr Usyk?
One thing that stands in the way of a Joshua vs Fury clash is AJ’s WBO mandatory title challenger Oleksandr Usyk.
The Ukrainian just outpointed Derek Chisora and has said he will NOT be taking a step-aside fee to let Fury and Joshua battle it out for all of the belts.
And even Joshua thinks he’s more likely to face Usyk than Fury next.
“I go off people who are serious. If Fury is serious and keen then the fight will happen,” he told ESPN.

Oleksandr Usyk is Anthony Joshua’s WBO mandatory challengerCredit: USA TODAY Sports
“Honestly, I’m keen to test myself. He’s supposed to have the real boxing IQ, so it’s going to be a really good challenge.
“I’m keen to compete with him, no problem. But whether he’s ready, that’s a whole other story because of the issues he faces during his career.
“I don’t know what will happen in 2021 but if I was to bet all my money on it I would say Usyk because he is with Matchroom, straightforward fight, and his track record shows when he says he is going to fight someone, he does.” More

Anthony Joshua vs Kubrat Pulev tale of the tape: Weight, height, reach and record of the two heavyweight stars

ANTHONY JOSHUA takes on Kubrat Pulev in the first defence of his second reign as world heavyweight champion.
The Bulgarian is Joshua’s IBF mandatory title challenger and will try his hand at collecting the WBA, WBO and IBO straps as well.

Anthony Joshua is the younger, fresher fighter against Kubrat Pulev

Joshua hasn’t been in the ring since his dominant points win over Andy Ruiz Jr last December.
AJ’s clash with Pulev will take place at Wembley Arena in front of 1,000 fans, Matchroom announced earlier this week.
But how do the heavyweight pair stack up against each other?
    Age
One of the most talked about factors heading into Joshua’s clash with Pulev is the challenger’s age.

At 39, Pulev has been around the block and fought anyone who has come his way, including Joshua’s pal Derek Chisora in 2016.
AJ is 31 years old and right in the middle of his physical prime, coming off the back of a brilliant win Ruiz Jr in Saudi Arabia.

Pulev has been knocked out as a professional, by Wladimir Klitschko in 2014, further adding wear and tear to his ageing body.
But Joshua has also been stopped, though he showed brilliant mental fortitude to come back in the rematch.

    Physicality
If Joshua’s going to win this fight in as eye-catching a manner as possible, he’s going to have to strongman Pulev, which isn’t necessarily an easy thing to do.
Pulev is just two inches shorter than Joshua, while AJ also has a three-inch reach advantage.

The pair were supposed to fight back in 2017 before injury forced Pulev outCredit: Reuters
But Pulev is as strong as an ox and hits incredibly hard, too.
Joshua is much quicker than Pulev, both with his hands and feet, and should look to bamboozle the world title challenger with speed and precision early on.
Once Pulev has been softened up, Joshua can go for a KO in the middle rounds of the fight.
    Record
Both fighters have one loss each on their records, with Joshua’s coming last year against Andy Ruiz Jr in New York.
The Olympic gold-medallist was knocked down four times in his fight with Ruiz Jr, who eventually stopped Joshua in the seventh round.

Joshua beat Joseph Parker on points back in 2018Credit: Getty Images – Getty
Pulev was brutally KO’d by Klitschko in the 5th round of their world title clash seven years ago.
Pulev does have decent wins over Chisora, Hughie Fury and Tony Thompson, however.
Joshua’s best victories include Klitschko, Dillian Whyte, Joseph Parker, Alexander Povetkin and Ruiz Jr in their rematch. More
