Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua will take 80 per cent CUTS of their purse if fight is held in UK without fans, says Hearn

TYSON FURY and Anthony Joshua will miss out on “80 per cent” of their purses if their long-awaited showdown takes place behind closed doors in the UK, according to Eddie Hearn.
The eagerly-anticipated heavyweight title unification fight moved a step closer last weekend when Joshua defended his unified titles with a ninth-round KO victory over Kubrat Pulev.

The Battle of Britain is currently being negotiated by the pair’s representatives, although former WBC heavyweight king Deontay Wilder insists he’s contractually entitled to a trilogy fight with Fury.
One of the two proposed Joshua vs Fury fights is expected to take place in the United Kingdom, although it’s unclear when stadiums and arenas will be allowed to be at full capacity due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
Should the unthinkable happen and the fight have to take place behind closed doors, Matchroom chief Hearn says the pair will earn a fraction of what they would in normal circumstances.
Joshua’s promoter told Behind the Gloves: “We’ve had about a dozen approaches from different countries.

“But the situation is: if you do the fight in England, fighters will get paid about 50 per cent of what they’d [normally get]. Half, that’s what 50 per cent is.
“So it’s a hell of a pay cut. If there are no fans, it’ll be about 80 per cent less.
“So this is another reason why collectively now we have to go out and explore where we’re going to stage it.”
Although Fury and Joshua are desperate to get their hands on one another, Hearn reckons it’ll be difficult to convince them to take such significant pay cuts.

He added: “It’s one thing going, ‘Okay, let’s agree. We’ll do the fight.’ Then it’s, ‘Okay, where? And show me what’s in the pot.’
“If I’m ‘AJ’ or I’m Fury, I’m going, ‘Yeah, we’re all in. 50-50 let’s go. But how much?’
“Do you want to come back and go, ‘Oh, sorry, we couldn’t get any money for the fight because of the pandemic. So are you alright taking X?’
“They’re going, ‘F***ing hell. This is the biggest fight in history.’ So we need to just work together to go out and maximise the revenue for the fights.”
According to Hearn, negotiations over the super-fight are going swimmingly and a preliminary announcement could be made before the end of the year.
He said: “I think the next announcement will be something like, ‘All the terms are agreed.’ And now we go, effectively, to market and decide where we’re going to do this thing.
“But I think realistically. Where are we now? December 19. Maybe by the end of the year. Or early next year to say, ‘It’s on!’
“I know we’ve got the Wilder situation. But honestly, through speaking to people, I don’t want to get too excited, but I don’t think [it’ll be a problem].”

Tyson Fury’s ‘real name is LUKE… but he changed it to sound ‘harder’ like Iron Mike’, says Dillian Whyte

DILLIAN WHYTE claims Tyson Fury’s real name is Luke and he changed it to sound ‘harder’.
The Gypsy King, who is on a collision course to unify the heavyweight division in a £500m blockbuster against Anthony Joshua, lists his full name as Tyson Luke Fury.

Dillian Whyte claimed Tyson Fury’s real name is Luke and he changed it

The Gypsy King lists his full name as Tyson Luke Fury

That has boosted his brand and helped secure meetings with legend ‘Iron’ Mike Tyson.
But 32-year-old Whyte, who is still waiting for his shot at revenge against Alexander Povetkin, insists his team have evidence that he switched his Christian names around to sound like the Baddest Man on the Planet.
He exclusively told SunSport: “My real name is Dillian. I know his real name is Luke.
“He changed it to Tyson to make himself sound harder. People can have a little look around on the internet and see for themselves.

“In boxing, the name Tyson is a lot more sellable than Luke.
“A lot of what Tyson does and says is a game, you can never take anything he says seriously or at face value.
“He might say he wants to fight me sometimes but how can you trust a man who doesn’t even use his own name?”

He changed it to Tyson to make himself sound harder… in boxing, the name Tyson is a lot more sellable than Luke.
    Whyte on Fury’s name

Whyte was speaking to us while holed up in a Winnebago in Brentwood to prepare for his fight with Russian dangerman Povetkin in August..

He went into that looking for a 12th consecutive win to earn him the WBC’s diamond belt and secure the shot at Fury’s main belt.
But the Body Snatcher was dramatically dropped in the fifth by Povetkin as he suffered a shock loss to dent his hopes of facing Fury.
Now he will have to get past Povetkin in their rematch and sit back while Joshua, who destroyed Kubrat Pulev last week, and Fury thrash out terms for their super fight.
Before that huge setback, Whyte did claim to SunSport that he is the hardest travelling, biggest banging, real road warrior around.
He said: “I drove 40-hours with my three dogs out to my training base in Portugal for a 22-week camp away from home for this fight.
“Now I am living in a caravan for a week before fighting a dangerous Russian, in an Essex field, on the side of the motorway.

“I will fight anyone, anywhere and that is why I am the real Gypsy King and I have even got my flat cap to prove it.
“Tyson Fury likes to tell people that he is but let’s see.
“Fury had a privileged upbringing, went to a posh school in an expensive area and lives in a lovely house. What kind of gypsy is he?”

Tyson Fury heaps praise on ‘great athlete’ Anthony Joshua as he eyes £500m two-fight deal

TYSON FURY is trying to flatter his way into a shot at flattening Anthony Joshua.
On Saturday night, after AJ, 31, battered brave Kubrat Pulev but refused to call out the Gypsy King, Fury launched a verbal volley at the WBA, IBF and WBO champ.

Undefeated WBC boss Fury, 32,  said the “big bum dosser” had just “s*** himself live on TV” and vowed to KO him inside three rounds if they finally meet in 2021.
But, on Jonathan Ross’ Saturday night show, Fury turns on the charm in a bid to woo AJ  into the ring for a potential £500MILLION two-fight deal.
Fury  said: “He’s a great fighter, Olympic gold medallist, two-time heavyweight champion just like me, he’s won all the best, he’s a great, great athlete. Of course I have respect for him.
“I don’t know him personally, to say I like him or dislike him, from what I’ve seen of him he seems a decent guy.

“Next year the fight has to happen. He came over his final hurdle  against Pulev. Now we’re both free to make this fight. I’m willing to do the fight.”
But he could not refuse one dig, replying to Wossy’s query on who is No 1, Fury said: “Me, by a mile. There we go, that’s how you answer the question.”
And AJ’s promoter Eddie Hearn revealed both fighters could bin their belts, from the four major sanctioning bodies, if they try to block the undisputed decider.
He said: “We’ve just got to be a bit careful because you may be on the verge of saying: “Lets just get rid of politics right now.

“Let’s just drop all the belts because if we lose one belt, we might as well lose them all. We will do whatever we can to make sure that every belt in boxing is on the line in the Tyson Fury fight.
“What we won’t be is held to ransom and we won’t let politics get involved in a fight that boxing needs.”
One topic Fury will not  drop is his inclusion on the Sports Personality of the Year award.
The 6ft 9in star could still be crowned the SPOTY king on Sunday, despite demanding to be taken off the list and ordering fans not to vote.
He said: “I’ve asked to be taken off a list. They’ve not listened. I’ve even sent them a legal letter to be taken off. They’re still not listening.

Fury had previously branded AJ a ‘big bum dosser’ in a heated blastCredit: Getty Images – Getty
“They’re trying to take away my rights as a person, to not do something that I don’t want to do. My name shouldn’t be on there if I don’t want it on there.
“It’s a free country. They are doing something that I do not wish to participate in.
“The reason is, I don’t want an award from someone to say I’m a sports personality. I know what I am and who I am and what I’ve achieved, I know what I’ve come back from.
“I don’t need a glass trophy. I’m the people’s champion. I don’t need this glamorous trophy to say who I am and what I’ve done.”
Fury is not just happy being the biggest star in boxing, either, he fancies outshining the Moon.

The father of five revealed himself to be a space boffin keen to check out the unknown and he even sees the upside of intergalactic disaster.
He said: “We’ve made some real progress, I’m hopefully going, I’ve always wanted to go to space. I used to look at the Moon and think, ‘I want to go there one day’.
“This year an opportunity arose where Virgin are doing galactic space travel, supposed to be going into space in the middle of next year.
“I’m going to be one of the first ones on the list. Hopefully I’ll be going to space.
“I cannot wait. If anything did go wrong, God forbid, what a story, what a legendary end.”

Dillian Whyte vows ‘I would love to smash Deontay Wilder’s face in’ and calls out Luis Ortiz if Povetkin fight is axed

DILLIAN WHYTE has called out Deontay Wilder and says he would ‘love to smash his face in’.
Whyte threw down the gauntlet despite having a rematch against Alexander Povetkin lined up.

The British ace lost to his Russian heavyweight opponent in their first meeting in August, but Whyte already has his sights set on another opponent in Wilder.
The American is still reeling from losing his WBC crown to Tyson Fury earlier this year, and Whyte believes he would follow in the Gypsy King’s footsteps by putting Wilder on the floor.
He told the Toe2Toe podcast: “I would love to smash Deontay Wilder’s face in.
“It’s one of those fights where I would be very charged up. I would go out in the first round and just get going after him.

“It is frustrating, but it’s still a big name. He’s one of the top guys and I would love to fight him.
“He has to be serious. We offered him six, seven million dollars once and he turned it down when he was making one million dollars to fight Luis Ortiz.
“How serious is he? When people mention Deontay Wilder’s name to me, I just get stressed. It’s crazy, because once again someone else wants to fight me.
“Parker didn’t want to fight me when he had the title. I tried to fight him, no. Lucas Browne, I tried to fight him, no. All of these guys.

“Deontay Wilder, I tried to fight him when he was champion. No. Now they’ve all lost, they want to fight me after.
“Luis Ortiz, I tried to fight Luis Ortiz three or four times. No. Povetkin, I tried to fight him three or four times before. No.
“But when they’re in a bad position, they want to fight me now because it’s a win-win for them. If they lose, they get paid well, if they win, they’re back in the frame. These guys have got no respect.”
Whyte also revealed that he would like to fight Ortiz if a rematch with Povetkin does not go ahead.

He added: “In my mindset, there’s only five fights for me. If I get those five fights, then I’m happy to call it a day, to be honest. I don’t want any of these guys to retire.
“It depends on what these guys are doing. I might have to do more, but if I get the five fights I want.
“Those fights should be Povetkin, Luis Ortiz, Wilder, Fury, Joshua. Fight those guys then I’ve fought everyone I can fight.
“Even now, Povektin keeps delaying it, saying he’s sick. I’m like, ‘Okay, that’s fine, I want you to be at your best when I fight you’.
“Have as much time as you want, let me fight Luis Ortiz in February, and then I’ll fight you later in the year.”

Gennady Golovkin warns he might ‘seize’ chance to ‘legally kill person in the ring’ in response to Oscar De La Hoya

MIDDLEWEIGHT star Gennady Golovkin has issued a deadly threat in response to Oscar De La Hoya’s claims he could beat the IBF champion.
The retired boxer – who revealed earlier this year he is planning to make a comeback aged 47 – has GGG in his sights should he step back inside the squared circle.

And speaking last month, the 1992 Olympic gold medallist – who won a whopping 11 world titles in six weight classes – stated it would be ‘easy’ to beat Golovkin.
He said: “You know how easy GGG would be for me? Oh, my gosh. It would be a high-profile fight, that’s for sure.
“I always took a good shot and I always took apart fighters like him. In my mind it would be that easy. I would definitely consider it, that’s for sure.”
Golovkin was asked about De La Hoya’s comments ahead of his IBF defence against Kamil Szeremeta on Friday in Florida.

And he didn’t hold back as he issued a grave warning to De La Hoya by insisting he could ‘seize’ his chance to ‘legally kill a person in the ring’.
He told AFP: “You know Oscar, you know how dirty his mouth is.
“Everything involving Gennady Golovkin for him is a nightmare.
“He can say whatever. But let me put it this way – If I got an opportunity to legally kill a person in the ring, I might seize it.”

De La Hoya – who has also been linked with a fight to face Marcos Maidana – hasn’t fought since 2008 after being beaten by Manny Pacquiao.
Golovkin meanwhile has been out of action since winning the vacant IBF title against Sergiy Derevyanchenko in October 2019.
Commenting on his return to the ring, he said: “‘It was a long pause.
“There was enough time to miss boxing and forget certain things. The training was good.
“I went through my standard training and it went well and I’m ready.”

Most controversial moments in boxing including Mike Tyson’s ‘eat your children’ jibe following Golovkin kill comments

GENNADY GOLOVKIN recently shocked fans after claiming he could ‘seize’ his chance to ‘legally kill a person in the ring’.
The IBF middleweight champion was responding to Oscar De La Hoya’s claims he could easily beat GGG if he returned to the ring.

And the Kazakhstan knockout specialist failed to hold back as he laid into the 1992 Olympic gold medallist in comments he may live to regret.
Here SunSport takes a look at some of the most controversial moments in boxing.
Mike Tyson’s ‘eat your children’ jibe
Truly the Baddest Man on the Planet, Tyson, 57, is no stranger to finding himself in the headlines for all the wrong reasons.
His biting of Evander Holyfield’s ear could easily feature in this list, however it doesn’t come close to his remark in 2000 where he declared he wanted to eat Lennox Lewis’ children.

In a statement he has since apologised for, Iron Mike went into a rant at the British star following his first round KO victory against Lou Savarese.
Speaking after the fight, he said: “I’m the best ever. I’m the most brutal and vicious and ruthless champions that’s ever been. There’s no one can stop me. Lennox is a conqueror?
“No, I’m Alexander. He’s no Alexander. I’m the best ever. There’s never been anybody as ruthless. I’m Sonny Liston. I’m Jack Dempsey. There’s no one like me, I’m from their cloth.
“There’s no one that can match me. My style is impetuous. My defense is impregnable, and I’m just ferocious. I want your heart, I want to eat his children.”

Tyson eventually faced his rival in 2002, with Lewis knocking the heavyweight out in the eighth round.

Speaking ahead of his IBF defence against Kamil Szeremeta on Friday in Florida, the 38-year-old issued a deadly threat to De La Hoya should the pair face each other.
He told AFP: “You know Oscar, you know how dirty his mouth is. Everything involving Gennady Golovkin for him is a nightmare.
“He can say whatever. But let me put it this way – If I got an opportunity to legally kill a person in the ring, I might seize it.”
Often a composed character out of the ring, his comments have not gone down well with boxing fans who have urged governing bodies to fine him.

Deontay Wilder’s ‘body on my record’ remark
The Bronze Bomber went one step further than GGG in 2018 as he stated he wishes to have killed somebody in the ring before he retires from the sport.
Wilder, 35, made the distressing comments just one month after English boxer Scott Westgarth tragically died from boxing-related injuries.
Speaking on the Breakfast Club radio show, Wilder said: “I want a body on my record. I want one. I want one, I really do. That’s the Bronze Bomber, he wants one.”
Before adding: “I thought I had one time with [Artur] Szpilka because he wasn’t breathing when he hit the canvas. Somebody is going to go.
“I want that on my record, because when I’m in that state on mind, like I ain’t myself.”

    Muhammad Ali loses boxing license
The legendary boxer had his boxing license by the New York State Athletic Commission revoked in 1967 for refusing to be drafted into the Vietnam War.
Other boxing commissions soon followed suit, resulting in the American great not fighting for over three years.
The People’s Champion was also found guilty of draft evasion and was sentenced to five years in prison, though he stayed out of jail after appealing his decision to the Supreme Court.
He finally returned in October 1970 after being granted a license to fight by the City of Atlanta Athletic Commission.
Ali regained the world heavyweight title after beating George Foreman in 1974 – seven years after being stripped of his titles.

Roy Jones Jr loses Seoul 1988 Olympic final
The American fought South Korea’s Park Si-Hun in the final for the light-middleweight gold medal.
Jones Jr out-punched his opponent by 86-32, however judges disgracefully awarded the victory to Park in arguably the most shocking decision to date.
Two of the three judges that voted for Park in his 3-2 decision win were subsequently banned for life following the result.
One of the judges later stated that he gave Park the win to appease the South Korean spectators.
Park, 54, recently stated how he wished he would have won the silver medal as he insisted Jones Jr won the fight.
He said: “I didn’t want my hand to be raised but it did go up, and my life became gloomy because of that.
“A boxer just knows whether he had won or lost a match. I thought I lost because I didn’t put up a fight deserving of a win.
“I keep thinking how my life would have been happier had I finished second. A gold medal is important, but isn’t any Olympic medal satisfying and glorious?”

Jake LaMotta takes dive for the Mafia
The former middleweight king – who was played by Robert De Niro in the 19080 biopic Raging Bull – was involved in a highly controversial fight in 1947.
LaMotta agreed to be knocked out in his fight against Billy Fox in order to guarantee himself a world title shot in the future.
He eventually secured his shot at the title in 1949 where he beat France’s Marcel Cerdan in Detroit, Michigan.
The obvious fix was investigated by the FBI years later, with LaMotta himself confirming he had thrown the bout.
Speaking of his decision in 2007, he said: “I regretted it the rest of my life.
“But it happened, and I had a good reason for it. All I wanted to do was become a champion. I wanted a shot at the title, and I finally did after I did what I did. ”

    Antonio Margarito’s tampered hand wraps
The 42-year-old was banned for a year in 2009 when his opponent Shane Mosley’s trainer Naazim Richardson noticed a powdery substance on his hand wraps.
After he brought this to the attention of officials, Margarito was made to have his hand wrapped three times.
It later emerged that the substance Margarito had used was plaster of Paris – which hardens when it becomes wet.
This would have made his hand wraps to be the equivalent of a cast due to sweat and moisture.
Margarito – who eventually lost his WBA welterweight title to Mosley – has had his 2008 victory over Miguel Cotto questioned as a result along with a number of other victories.

Mike Tyson and Jake Paul record Hotboxin’ podcast together… and there’s plenty of cannabis involved

JAKE PAUL is teaming up with Mike Tyson to record a new episode of Iron Mike’s Hotboxin’ podcast – and there’ll be plenty of cannabis.
The YouTuber has seemingly found himself an ally in the fighting world after calling out Conor McGregor, angering Nate Diaz, and even receiving a fight offer from Amanda Nunes.

Jake Paul has revealed he is set to appear on Mike Tyson’s podcast

The YouTuber shared a video of himself in the smokey studio with the boxing icon

Paul, 23, has won his first two bouts as a professional boxer, empathically knocking out retired NBA player Nate Robinson, 36, in November.
Yet he hit the headlines after as he called out UFC superstar McGregor for a fight and branded the Notorious an ‘Irish c***’.
Paul is now set to roll back the curtain on his plans to get back in the ring to boxing legend Tyson on an episode of Hotboxing’.
Iron Mike’s popular podcast sees ‘the baddest man on the planet pour his soul into conversations with fascinating minds, celebrities and athletes in a studio full of smoke’.

And Paul revealed in an Instagram Story that he was due to appear on an as-of-yet un-confirmed episode.
The social media star put up a short clip of himself in the studio with Tyson as the former heavyweight champion held a joint.
Paul said: “Big podcast coming”, to which 54-year-old Tyson replied: “yes it is.”
Iron Mike has been a vocal advocate for YouTubers crossing over to boxing as he praised them for breathing life into the sport last month.

Speaking at the post-fight interview following his comeback draw against Roy Jones Jr, he said: “My ego says so many things, but my reality says this, they helped boxing so much.
“Boxing owes these guys some kind of… they owe these YouTube boxers some kind of respect.
“Boxing was pretty much a dying sport. The UFC was kicking our butt. Boxing is going back thanks to the YouTube boxers.”

Is Tyson Fury still nominated for Sports Personality of the Year 2020? What has Gypsy King said about his nomination?

TYSON FURY was nominated for the BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2020 award last month.
Since then, however, there’s been a little confusion over whether the Gypsy King will remain on the list ahead of the ceremony.

Tyson Fury beat Deontay Wilder earlier this year to win a second world titleCredit: AP:Associated Press

Fury hasn’t been in the ring since February but he’s being linked up to take on Anthony Joshua in his next bout.
Why was Fury nominated for BBC Sports Personality of the Year?
Fury was nominated thanks to his world heavyweight title-winning exploits earlier this year, knockout Deontay Wilder out in the seventh round of their fight.
Wilder was the slight favourite going into their Las Vegas tussle.
Fury surprised everyone with his tactics, coming forward throughout, knocking Wilder down twice and forcing the American’s corner to throw the towel in.

What has Fury said about the nomination?
Fury posted a clip of himself on Twitter asking the BBC to take him off the list because he didn’t feel he needed an award.
But the BBC responded by saying they would not do so.
“Tyson Fury will remain on the list for Sports Personality of the Year 2020,” the BBC said.
“As always the winner will be decided by the public voting during the live show and it is of course up to Tyson if he chooses to participate in the show.”

But Fury has since responded to that statement by stating on Good Morning Britain he would get his lawyers to send a letter to the BBC demanding he be removed from the list.
“I’ve asked nicely to be taken off the list and they’ve decided they weren’t going to take me off the list,” he told Piers Morgan.
“So I’ve had my lawyer send them a letter demanding that I be taken off the list so let’s hope they listen and get me off that list.
“I don’t need any awards from any TV stations or organisations for me to know who I am.

“I know who I am, know what I’ve done, and I don’t need a big pat on the back and don’t need a glass trophy.
“No disrespect to anyone who wants it, but I see everyone clamouring to get on that list and I’m clamouring to get off it.
“I don’t need gratification from anybody.
“I’m the People’s Champion and the love of the people is worth more to me than everything and I don’t need an award to be celebrated in that way.”
When is the BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2020 ceremony?
The award ceremony will take place on Sunday, December 20.
The event will be begin at 8pm and shown live on BBC One.
Gary Lineker, Clare Balding, Gabby Logan and Alex Scott will present live from Media City in Salford.
