Some were worried it would put his blockbuster bout with AJ, 31, in serious jeopardy.
But now the fight has finally been CONFIRMED with the two Brits going toe-to-toe twice later this year in a deal worth a staggering £200million.

Saudi Arabia appears to be a front-runner, while Eddie Hearn has previously said the US, Dubai, Qatar and Singapore are also options.
However, the Matchroom mogul has now revealed he’s been taken back by an 11th-hour offer from a country in the Far East.
Ideally, all parties involved with Joshua vs Fury are keen for fans to attend what’s been deemed the biggest fight in British boxing history.
There are still Covid restrictions in place in the Middle East, however, springing the possibility that the fight could be delayed until November time.
Hearn says the individual from said mystery country, will want fans in attendance too, even if it were just 1,000 spectators.

Mike Tyson called out by James Toney, who says ‘you better not wear a mini-skirt to our fight’ in strange message

JAMES TONEY called out Mike Tyson and said ‘you better not wear a mini-skirt to our fight’ in a strange message. Tyson recently announced he will return for the second time in his comeback trail, on May 29 in Miami.

Iconic rival Evander Holyfield has been in talks with the heavyweight icon over a trilogy bout.
But fellow legend Toney appears to believe he is the one facing Tyson next and posted a video of Iron Mike in a bizarre music video.
Toney wrote: “You better not wear a mini-skirt to our fight. No jokes. Lights Out!”
Tyson, 54, remarkably announced a comeback in early 2020, sparking Toney, 52, and Holyfield, 58, to do the same.
Iron Mike eventually returned to the ring, 15 years after retiring, in November in an eight round exhibition.
He drew against Toney’s old rival Roy Jones Jr, 52, and revealed he wanted a quick turnaround.
Tyson later entered negotiations with Holyfield, 24 years after their infamous rematch.
Known as the ‘Bite Fight’, Iron Mike in 1997 sunk his teeth into his rival’s ear and was disqualified in round three.

It came a year after Holyfield won the initial fight by 11th round stoppage, considered an upset at the time.
The former two-weight champion is training for a trilogy with Tyson, and fought as recently as 2011, but retired in 2014.
Similarly, Toney stretched out his career until 2017, beating Mike Sheppard at heavyweight most recently.
And last year he called out Tyson and Holyfield, as he said: “To all those bringing up my name in these exhibition fight, count me in.
“If they want to do it, give me a call. I ain’t going nowhere.”

Watch as boxer is KO’d after turning his back on opponent when ref confused him by diving in to separate fighters

MAXI HUGHES contined his stunning career turnaround by winning the British lightweight title – but it was a controversial finish. The 31-year-old KO’d Paul Hyland Jr in the eighth-round after referee Mark Lyson confused both boxers.

Hughes had landed some crippling body shots that left Hyland doubled-up in pain on the MTK Fight Night undercard.
Lyson dived between the two fighters, appearing as though he was ready to score for a knockdown.
But Hyland didn’t touch the canvas as Hughes was told to go the neutral corner.
Hyland then turned his back on the referee and Hughes and walked towards the other corner, seemingly believing the ref had scored the knockdown.
But he hadn’t, and Lyson waved in Hughes who ended up KO’ing Hyland who had his back turned.
While Hughes fully deserved to win the fight and the Lonsdale belt, the manner of victory will leave a sour taste all round.
Hughes keeps up his superb run of form during lockdown, having now beaten Jono Carroll, Viktor Kotochigov and Hyland Jnr in the space of seven months.
In the main event Lee McGregor produced a sensational performance as he stopped Karim Guerfi in the first round to win the European bantamweight title.

McGregor (10-0, 8 KOs) dropped Guerfi (29-5, 9 KOs) three times in round one, with the first two knockdowns coming from body shots.
A ferocious left hook ended the fight.
It means that in just his tenth professional fight, McGregor has become British, Commonwealth, and now European bantamweight champion.

Asian billionaire wants to host Joshua vs Fury mega-fight, reveals Hearn as promoter admits ‘it’s a realistic option’

ANTHONY JOSHUA’s long-awaited undisputed heavyweight title fight with Tyson Fury could end up being bought by an Asian billionaire, according to his promoter Eddie Hearn.Joshua and Fury, 31 and 32 respectively, put pen to paper on a two-fight deal worth a whopping £500million earlier this week.

A venue and date for the biggest fight in the history of British boxing, however, have yet to be finalised.
Several Middle Eastern countries have expressed an interest in hosting the blockbuster bout, but a mystery bid from Asia has recently caught Hearn’s attention.
The Matchroom Boxing chief said: “I had an approach [on Wednesday], not from the Middle East, but it was the most bizarre approach.
“I can’t say who it was but it was from a very wealthy individual and he wants to do something very special.
“We’ve had 20 approaches for this fight but you know which ones are serious.
“This one was just well out there. And it’s a realistic option, money is not an issue with this guy.

“Commercially it’s a bit strange, but it’s not about that. It’s a trophy asset to say, ‘This is the biggest event in the world.’
“And that’s the mindset of an individual who wants to bring it to his own country.
“It’s not about selling tickets, it’s not about government investment… it would him be saying, ‘I’d be paying for it.’
“There’s a number for the fight, you hit the number, you get the fight and the number was not an issue for this individual.
“Saudi have paid the site fee before, we’ve worked together before, it’s not complicated, it’s just about tying up the dates, but this offer is a bit different.

“All I will say is it’s in Asia. Not Macau but not far away.”
Joshua and Fury’s reps have been working for months to try and stage the Battle of Britain in June or July.
But it’s been suggested the fight could be delayed until later this year in order to land a bigger site fee.
Hearn, however, has dismissed that notion and is adamant the plan is still for AJ to throw down twice with The Gypsy King this year.
During an appearance on talkSPORT, he said: “That’s 100 per cent the focus.
Tyson Fury hasn’t fought since dethroning Deontay Wilder last FebruaryCredit: Reuters

“We know it’s a difficult world at the moment, we know there’s travel restrictions, we know global economies are crumbling, but ultimately that’s the date of the fight.
“People are talking about, ‘Some people might prefer this fight to take place in September/October/November.’
“Well, ‘some people’ aren’t us. We want Fury against AJ, two fights this year.
“This is what we’ve signed up to, this is what we’re talking to all the relevant sites and approaches that we’ve had is a two-fight agreement, one in June/July, one in November/December.”

Lawrence Okolie spoke title shot into existence – just like when he found Mercedes key and bought Olympic tracksuit

LAWRENCE OKOLIE has talked his world title tilt into existence after a lifetime defying lottery-like odds with the power of his brain. The 28-year-old Hackney cruiserweight, now on the cusp of a WBO world title, was once an overweight bully’s punchbag dreaming of luxury cars and sporting success.

But a series of striking coincidences and a religious-like faith in visualisation has helped the former McDonalds burger flipper turn his tough childhood into a stunning success story.
Ahead of his Wembley arena clash with Krzysztof Glowacki, Okolie explained to SunSport how finding an old car key and buying an Olympic 2012 tracksuit helped him speak his dreams into reality.
“When I was a kid I found a Mercedes key fob on the floor, picked it up and kept it, pretended I had one, convinced myself that one day I would,” The 2016 Olympian said.
“At the time I think I was listening to songs about guys having nice cars and Mercedes and it was something at the time that seemed completely out of my reach.
“The 2012 Olympics tracksuits I bought, I am sure are still in my mum’s house somewhere.
“People would see me wear and ask if I had boxed in the Games and I would act coy and modest but say that I had.
“Until I did a bit more research on speaking things into existence, people thought I was just crazy or cocky but that is just how I do it.
“When I was a kid, having an expensive car or going to the Olympics was a dream. But I made them happen.”
When I was a kid, having an expensive car or going to the Olympics was a dream. But I made them happen
Unlike most sportspeople who roll out cliches about taking one match or fight at a time and never overlooking an opponent, Okolie has put his reputation on the line with bold predictions.
Mentor, manager and Olympic 2012 golden boy Anthony Joshua – whose London success was watched by Okolie from his shift under the golden arches – has used the psychology as has UFC pioneer Conor ‘Mystic Mac’ McGregor.
When it works, the concept is celebrated as forward thinking and inspirational. But, when it flops, the loser is arrogant, complacent and deluded.
The 6ft 5in puncher explained: “It has caused problems for me with other people before because I would talk about my plans and urge other people to do it.
Okolie is set for a clash with Krzysztof Glowacki at Wembley arenaCredit: Mark Robinson Matchroom Boxing
“But most people don’t like to talk like that, they prefer to take one step at a time or not talk about something until it is done.
“Each to their own but making my targets known, loud and clear, is what pushes me on in training.
“I know exactly what the goals are around me and so does everybody else around me.
“You could compare it to religious faith. If you act and behave in a certain way, with dedication, then you will be rewarded.
“I feel like most people want to make logical sense out of everything and that can sometimes hold you back.
“But it’s illogical to push your body to the absolute limit every day for the slim chance you might become a world champion.
“Buying a lottery ticket makes more sense because you know all the figures and likelihoods involved, you know the exact percentage chance of winning.
“But with sport, especially one as dangerous and unpredictable as this, you need to have a few lucky breaks and perfect performances at the right time.
“You need so much self belief, almost to the point of delusion.”

As much as Okolie was inspired by AJ’s Olympic success, he was scarred by his failure to medal four years later, despite only taking up the sport aged 17.
That last-16 exit in Rio is exactly why he will leave nothing to chance against his dangerous Polish rival.
“I always remember before my fights that nothing is guaranteed and it has to be grabbed,” he said.
“I remember the Olympic loss changed me from a fighter to a winner because I thought winning the gold would be poetic justice for me.

“I was the kid who watched AJ win in 2012 from my till in McDonalds and then followed on.
“I thought I would qualify and walk in there and they would hand me the medal.
“I soon learned it doesn’t work like that, I learned you have to take every opportunity with both hands.”

Lawrence Okolie plays down heavyweight fight with manager Anthony Joshua because ‘mum would never accept it’

LAWRENCE OKOLIE doesn’t see a heavyweight tussle with manager Anthony Joshua ever coming to fruition… because his mum Elizabeth would ‘never allow it’.The Hackney-born cruiserweight will fight for his first world title this weekend against Pole Krzysztof Glowacki.

And although trainer Shane McGuigan is keen for Okolie to unify titles at 14st 4lbs first, there is already talk of a potential move to heavyweight.
Okolie’s manager and mentor Joshua currently holds the WBA, WBO, and IBF world titles, making any imminent moves into boxing’s glamour division a little awkward.
But ‘The Sauce’ insists there’s no way he will fight Joshua, who is expected to be at Wembley on Saturday night, because his mum Elizabeth is too big a fan of AJ.
“I plan to unify, I play to move up to heavyweight,” Okolie said.

“But I think that [Joshua fight] would be a conflict of interests.
“It’s not really in my plans. He’s obviously someone who has been a massive inspiration to my life and boxing.
“My mum, first and foremost, would never accept it. I think she would be rooting for AJ. That is not one I really look at. She loves him.
“She knows the impact he has had, she has seen the change in me, they’ve spoken, she roots for him and supports him.
“If I say ‘I’m pushing all that to the side and I’m going to go after the money or whatever’. I don’t think she would be too happy about it.

“It won’t happen in my opinion unless AJ turned round and said “I want to…” but I can’t see that happening.”
Joshua and 258 Management have guided Okolie’s career up until now, a CV which includes wins over Isaac Chamberlain, Wadi Camacho, Yves Ngabu and Nikodem Jezewski.
Glowacki represents Okolie’s toughest task to date, but the 28-year-old is taking all the pressure in his stride.
He added: “I don’t need people giving me pep talks like ‘This is your time’ and crying on the phone, it is straight forward and ‘Handle business and just win’.

“Those things hit. That is the kind of energy we are going with.”
“To be in a position like this people see it as pressure but I don’t see it negatively.
“Having my face everywhere and people saying ‘Okolie this is your big moment’. It doesn’t make me feel pressure, it just makes me feel happy and like ‘Wow this is another time I’m centre stage’.” More
