Frank Warren predicts Alexander Povetkin to knock Dillian Whyte out for second time in blockbuster Gibraltar PPV

FRANK WARREN is backing Alexander Povetkin to KO opponent Dillian Whyte for a second time. The Russian hardman defends his WBC interim title shot against the Brit in Gibraltar on Saturday night seven months after their initial scrap.

Povetkin, 41, was floored twice by Whyte in their first bout before KO’ing Whyte with a brutal uppercut in the fifth round.
And promoter Warren believes fans could see a repeat performance during the ‘Rumble on the Rock.’
Although he admitted Povetkin’s battle with Covid in November, which forced their January fight to be postponed, could have an impact on the outcome.
Warren told iFL TV: “I think what’s going to benefit Dillian is the fact that the fight has been pushed back for various reasons.
“I think that does him a favour because going straight back into a rematch, which they were going to do what eight or ten weeks after the event, that wouldn’t have done him any favours.
“That was a bad knockout that he had. It’s really how has COVID affected Povetkin. He caught COVID, didn’t he? How has it affected him, and I’m much older than him, I speak from experience.
“It’s not something that just leaves your system just like that. It’s in you.
“Hopefully, he’s over that now, and if he is over it, I think Dillian is going to have a tough night because he knows he has the power to knock him over, and I wouldn’t be surprised if the same thing happens again.

“He’s going to have to really, really try and get Povetkin in the position where he hopefully runs out of gas, as far as he’s concerned.
“I think Povetkin now has got his measure. That was a big shot that he caught him with, a big, big shot. So what’s he [Whyte] going to do?
“Is he going to trade with him or is he going to stand off him? For me, he’s [Dillian] got to outwork him.
“He’s got to really make every round like it’s the last round, and try and wear him down.
“If he does that, he might get through it, but I do favour Povetkin to do the same thing again.”
Povetkin revealed to Sky Sports his tactics to make it two from two against Whyte which includes punching shorter.
He said: “The left hook I was prepared for, and the right hand. But the uppercut works. You never know which will work in the next fight.
“I will try to defend myself better. My defensive skills must be better. And I will try to punch shorter.

“I will try to fix my mistakes from the previous fight and try not to repeat them.
“He can do whatever he wants. I’m ready for anything. I’ve been through this many times. I will be ready.
“I haven’t watched [the first fight] too many times but I pay attention to the mistakes that I made. I didn’t watch it to celebrate my win. It was for homework.”

A venue and a date are the two huge obstacles in the way now, but AJ’s promoter Eddie Hearn is set to ‘finalise a few deals’ next week.
The Matchroom boss also confirmed the first scrap will take place in June or July – and has sensationally not ruled out holding the slugfest at Wembley.
Speaking to iFL TV, Hearn said: “A lot has been occurring, I’m actually on my world travels next week to try finalise a few deals around the world, to get things moving.
“[There has been] a lot of really positive conversations, I’ve had a good chat with Bob [Arum, Fury’s promoter], he’s working hard, we’re working hard, we are making a lot of progress.
“And now we are approachingh the period of ‘let’s try and close these site deals’ and that will be the number one priority for next week.”
Hearn says there are ‘five or six players in the market’ to stage the fight – but has not given up dreams of holding it on these shores.
The 41-year-old added: “Me and Bob the other day were talking about Wembley. We were saying ‘is there any way we could speak to the government and get 100,000’.
“What about we go in July, they got the Euros there, I don’t know, it’s financially difficult to take that choice.

“I don’t want to get people too excited, I probably should haven’t even said that. But it would be pretty special wouldn’t it?
“What’s in play is a June/July fight. It’s the only fight we want, it’s signed and agreed.”
SunSport reported how Joshua is looking in tip-top shape in training ahead of his showdown with Fury.
AJ showed his preparation is going to plan with an Instagram post where the 31-year-old looked toned and powerful.
He captioned the snap: “My inspiration is my determination.”
Fans and fellow pros were quick to laud the Watford-born fighter’s physique in the comments section, including ex-footballer Jamie Redknapp.

SunSport understands that the WBC champion opted for ‘The Summer Breeze’ model, which is available for £4,995.

Fury has ordered another model for his Morecambe-based gym, near the town’s football stadium, to help him relax as he prepares to try and earn undisputed glory against AJ.
Fury and Joshua have been locked in talks to face-off in an all-British heavyweight unification showdown this summer.

Some were worried it would put his blockbuster bout with AJ, 31, in serious jeopardy.
But now the fight has finally been CONFIRMED with the two Brits going toe-to-toe twice later this year in a deal worth a staggering £200million.
However, a couple of key details missing from the fine print were where and when the huge clash would take place.
Saudi Arabia appears to be a front-runner, while Eddie Hearn has previously said the US, Dubai, Qatar and Singapore are also options.

However, the Matchroom mogul has now revealed he’s been taken back by an 11th-hour offer from a wealthy individual in the Far East.
Ideally, all parties involved with Joshua vs Fury are keen for fans to attend what’s been deemed the biggest fight in British boxing history.
There are still Covid restrictions in place in the Middle East, however, springing the possibility that the fight could be delayed until November time.
Hearn says the individual from said mystery country, will want fans in attendance too, even if it were just 1,000 spectators.

Derek Chisora questions whether Dillian Whyte will have same ‘violent instincts’ to KO Povetkin after first fight loss

DEREK CHISORA has questioned whether Dillian Whyte is bold enough to repeat “maximum violence” tactics in his Alexander Povetkin rematch – after suffering a one-punch KO first time out.Whyte twice floored Rusian Povetkin, 41, and was on top… until his sudden destruction in the fifth round of their August encounter.
Dillian Whyte has to decide if he should stick to his ‘maximum violence’ instincts or play it careful to avoid a repeat of his defeat to Alexander PovetkinCredit: PA
Dillian Whyte will be wary of Alexander Povetkin’s power after this devastating one-punch finish to their first meetingCredit: Mark Robinson
And fellow British heavyweight Chisora believes Whyte will be in a “Catch 22” situation – caught between his instincts for explosive assertiveness and his memories of Povetkin’s pulverising power.
Whyte, 32, makes his revenge bid in Gibraltar on Saturday.
And although Chisora tips the Brixton bruiser to win, he believes Whyte will be wary.
Chisora told The Ringside Toe 2 Toe podcast: “Dillian will be in a Catch 22, because first of all he talks like he’s going to bring maximum violence.
“He will want to go violent on this guy and in the back of his mind he’ll remember the knockout, and then he’s going to try and play safe.
“I see Dillian winning it, but how he wins it, I don’t know yet.”
Chsiora’s promoter, former world champ David Haye, has already warned Whyte that Povetkin’s single-blow sign-off was no fluke.
Haye previously told Sky Sports: “That left uppercut that he threw knocked out Carlos Takam, in a very even fight, in a very good toe-to-toe fight.

“It’s a shot that he throws regularly. Derek was telling me when he sparred with him, he was getting hit with that shot, so it’s one of his shots, and to get hit with someone’s best shot isn’t very lucky is it.
“The guy has got a big shot. It’s like getting caught with Dillian Whyte’s left hook.
“You know it’s there if you can practise to go under it, if you throw your right hook to the body or not, or you can stand up and get knocked out.”

And former undisputed heavyweight king Tyson reckons AJ faces an almighty task to land his devastating right hand flush on the fleet-footed The Gypsy King.
He told The MacLife: “You know I love f***ing Joshua. But Tyson is too elusive, he’s not gonna hit him.”
Iron Mike believes Joshua’s lack of speed, not Fury’s footwork, will ultimately be his undoing against the WBC titleholder.
He added: “Listen, we’re keeping it honest, right? I like Joshua. I like Joshua a lot, right?
“Maybe he punches harder than.. what’s the other black guy? Wilder. He doesn’t punch faster than Wilder.
“If he doesn’t punch faster than Wilder, he’s not gonna f**ing touch this guy. That’s just what I see.

“He punches hard, but he doesn’t punch fast. If Tyson Fury can get away from Wilder’s fast punches, Joshua might be in trouble.”
Tyson’s prediction for the fight comes just a few days after his former coach Teddy Atlas predicted Joshua to have a ‘blackout’ in the long-awaited Battle of Britain.
During a recent episode of The Fight with Teddy Atlas podcast, the 64-year-old said: “I think Fury could stop him.
“I like AJ, he’s a good fighter, he’s got good talent, he’s had a great comeback. I like all that.
“I’m not gonna say he has a China chin, I’m not gonna say that. But, I’m gonna say Fury has a better chin.
“And I’m gonna say he’s been to dark places when he got stopped by Ruiz. He being Joshua. He went to dark places.
Mike Tyson reckons Tyson Fury will be too ‘elusive’ for Anthony JoshuaCredit: Getty
“Now he found a light and he lit the room up and he’s back into a place that’s lit. I just don’t think he’s that far away from a power shortage.
“I think there could be a blackout again, where his confidence [goes].
“When I say the electricity, the light, I attach it to confidence, belief, mental strength and durability.
“I think that a blackout could happen in that generator of his again. He’s not far from removed from being taken back to no lights.
“So I’m going with Fury. And Fury, all the things he can do in the ring.
Teddy Atlas has tipped Tyson Fury to get the better of Anthony JoshuaCredit: Getty

“He showed me he can go get you now and he can box and pot shot and move.
“So I’m gonna go with [Fury]. Joshua can punch, Joshua’s a banger. He gets into position, but he’s going to have to get into that position.
“Because Fury is more versatile, Fury has more say because he can do more things.
“He can control the outside if he wants and not make it so easy for Joshua to get into his geography so to speak, which I like to talk about.
“But, it’s going to be a humongous fight.”
