Dillian Whyte jokes he will ‘break Anthony Joshua’s leg’ and fight Tyson Fury in his place for WBC title

DILLIAN WHYTE has jokingly claimed he will break Anthony Joshua’s legs so that he can get the next shot at WBC champion Tyson Fury. The Brit returned to the heavyweight division title picture with a brilliant rematch victory over Alexander Povetkin.

He knocked out the Russian in Gibraltar in the fourth to gain revenge for his brutal defeat in August.
Despite him regaining the WBC interim belt, it looks like the 32-year-old Body Snatcher may still face a lengthy wait for his first world-title shot.
Champs Joshua and Fury have already agreed a whopping £200m two-fight deal to unify the division.
Whyte has been in this position before and it appears he is sick of waiting around.
After delivering a brutal KO to Povetkin, he tongue-in-cheekily said: “I’ve waited long enough, there’s no way I should wait anymore…
“I’ll just break Joshua’s leg so they can’t make the fight, then I’ll just turn up and fight Fury.”
Whyte’s Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn has already confirmed he wants the star to get back into the ring this summer.
And he hinted at a huge showdown with Deontay Wilder.

Hearn said: “I’d like to see him box quickly again in the summer, maybe go over to the States and have a fight over there.
“We know there’s a logjam. For me, we called for the Deontay Wilder fight for a long, long time.
“Now, he got knocked out and he’s calling for the fight with Dillian Whyte. So for me that’s a stadium fight, that’s a colossal fight.
“The ultimate aim has always been for Dillian Whyte to challenge for the world heavyweight title.”

Anthony Joshua ‘in talks with Floyd Mayweather about legend joining his fight camp’ ahead of Tyson Fury showdown

And Mayweather – who wants to become a trainer – considered the link up just days after AJ’s mega-fight with the Gypsy King was announced, according to the Mail.
Speaking last week, Mayweather said: “I look forward to working with Anthony Joshua real soon.
“We communicate all the time, we talk all the time.
“His fight with Fury is a very interesting fight.”
AJ’s long term trainer Rob McCracken will remain the main man regardless of what happens with Mayweather.
Mayweather and AJ first became friends when Joshua took a trip to Las Vegas in 2017.
Floyd took time out to host the Brit and his entourage in Sin City’s nightclubs.
And he also invited the heavyweight champ into his gym to watch him spar ahead of his win over Conor McGregor.

Joshua’s camp manager David Ghansa told the Mail: “It was a holiday but we were also out there looking for training bases.
“While we were out there we got a message from Mayweather asking what hotel we were staying at.
“We told him and all of a sudden, maybe an hour after, he was in the underground car park with all his mates and loads of Rolls Royces.
“The hotel desk called our room and said Floyd is waiting for you in the car park. It was crazy. From that point on he basically hosted us for the rest of our time there.
“We went to nightclubs with him and he even closed off his gym so we could watch him spar.
“He was preparing to fight McGregor at the time and it was just an unbelievable experience.”

Tyson Fury’s dad John casts doubt over Anthony Joshua fight and insists agreement means NOTHING without date and venue

But boxing fans are still none the wiser where or when the Battle of Britain will take place.
And John Fury reckons people should not be getting ahead of themselves just yet.
Appearing on BT Sport, the former boxer said: “We need to get him out, whether these cowboys get the job sorted which I don’t think they’re going to do.
“What have they signed? They’ve signed nothing in my eyes. They’ve got no date, no venue, no nothing.
“What does it mean if you can’t get a date and a venue? What does it mean if no one is willing to put the money up?
“It’s all about someone coming forward and saying, ‘Right, I’ll pay for the fight, I’ll stage the fight.’ Where are these people?
“That’s the position it’s in and I don’t think they can get it together. It’s too big for what’s happening and the climate the world is in at the moment.
“I just don’t think the timing is right for a fight of that magnitude with the state of the world.”

Fury, 32, has fought just once in the last 18 months – that stunning win over Deontay Wilder in February 2020.
All eyes are on the showdown with Joshua.
The Middle East was expected to host the blockbuster bout in June or July but Eddie Hearn admitted a full Wembley is an alternative if lockdown restrictions are lifted in time.
However, Fury Snr, 56, added his son will get into the ring twice in 2021 regardless of what happens with the 31-year-old WBA, IBF and WBO king.
He continued: “Tyson needs to fight twice this year, with or without AJ.
“Tyson is not bothered by any heavyweight on the planet – he’s passed being bothered by this man or that man.
“It’s a business for Tyson and we need to move on, get a living properly, sharpen his tools and keep him sharp in case that big night comes knocking.
“But I think they’re dragging their heels a bit because they don’t want to and I don’t blame them.”

    FAN FAIR
It really was great to see fans back last night, even if it was just 500 spectators.

    DILL THE DAD
Dillian Whyte revealed he is yet to meet his four-month-old son due to his intense training camps for the Alexander Povetkin rematch.
Speaking to iFL TV behind the scenes after the fourth-round KO against the Russian, Whyte detailed the extent of his sacrifice.
He said: “My child hasn’t seen me. I’ve never met my son. Never. My son is four months old and I’ve never seen him.
“I call everyday and his mother has been great.
“It’s all good man but I worry because that’s what worriers do. You can’t be a half-term worrier you have to put everything in.”

    NO BAD BLOOD

HEARN ON WHAT’S NEXT FOR WHYTE
“I’d like to see him box quickly again in the summer, maybe go over to the States and have a fight over there,” the promoter said.
“We called for the Deontay Wilder fight for a long, long time. [Wilder] actually DM’d Dillian Whyte and said I will never, ever give you that fight.
“And now he got knocked out and he’s calling for the fight with Dillian Whyte.
“For me that’s a stadium fight, that’s a colossal fight. I’d like to get him back out quickly, maybe to the States for a big fight.
“The ultimate aim for Dillian Whyte has always been to challenge for the world heavyweight title.
“Everyone knows in boxing, he’s a handful for anyone in the division.
“Tonight was about getting his career back on track, getting the title ambition back on track, coming back from that KO.
“Now we regroup, we go again and the aim remains the same for Dillian Whyte to get a shot at a world heavyweight title.
“He’ll stay active. He loves to train, he loves to fight, he doesn’t want to rest, he wants to get out and fight.
“If that involves getting out quickly in the summer we’ve got to plan accordingly.”
    POVETKIN DONE?
Will Povetkin retire after that pummeling last night?
The Russian is 41 now and has been in some real hard fights over the last few years.
He is further away from another world title shot than he was 12 months ago, so what else does he have left to achieve?
Let’s remember, he won Olympic gold in 2004. 2004!

    WILDER, RUIZ, BRYANT?
    What next for Whyte then?
Deontay Wilder and Andy Ruiz are big names being talked about. Whyte also mentioned that he would like to fight Trevor Bryant for the WBA regular title.
That’s the same belt David Haye won back in the day. Would we like to see that?
    WHYTE FLAG
Dillian waved the Whyte flag after KOing Alexander Povetkin – by grabbing a stool for his defeated opponent in a classy gesture.
Povetkin – whose only two previous pro losses were to Wladimir Klitschko and Anthony Joshua – was getting treatment from his team standing in his corner.
But the Body Snatcher picked up a stool and brought it over for Povetkin to take a seat.
And then he poured water on the battered boxer to help cool him down.
The two fighters clearly had plenty of respect for one another afterwards as they embraced in the ring.

    RUMBLE ON THE ROCK

    REVENGE
What a performance from Dillian Whyte!

    WHAT’S NEXT?
Promoter Eddie Hearn has given his thoughts on where Dillian Whyte’s next fight will be.
And all signs point towards a colossal fight in America.
Hearn said: “Let’s go over to the States and have a fight there.
“We’ve called for the [Deontay] Wilder fight for a long time. He DM’d and said he’d never give you [Whyte] the fight.
“But he got knocked out and now wants it, that’s a stadium fight.
“The ultimate game for him [Whyte] is to challenge for the heavyweight world title.”
Could we see Wilder vs Whyte?

    TRILOGY?
Dillian Whyte gave his assessment on tonight’s thunderous win and has hinted at a third fight between the pair: “I’m sad it didn’t finish in the first round.
    “I could’ve finished him early.
“I’m willing to run it back again, if he wants the rematch? I’m annoyed, I shouldn’t have lost the first time.
“All I had to do was be a bit smarter.
“I believe I can beat anybody. I t was a bit of an annoying camp, due to the reschedule.
“I changed up my nutrition. He had to pay tonight, man.”
    AND NEW!
Dillian Whyte gets his redemption and wins back the belt he felt he should never have lost.
Whyte is WBC interim world heavyweight champion once again!
from summer shock to spring clean up – Whyte’s back on top!
    WHYTE VS POVETKIN: WHYTE WINS
    WOW!
Now that’s what you call a main event!
Whyte sent Povetkin stumbling backwards with a straight jab – the Russian bounced back off the ropes and right back into the path of a man on a mission.
The Brit hit the Russian with a wonderful left and right hook combination.
And then charged up his powerful left hook and knocked Povetkin out!
He’s not called The Body Snatcher for nothing!
    AND IT’S ALL OVER!
WHYTE GETS IT ALL RIGHT AND HE KNOCKS POVETKIN OUT!
    WHAT A PERFORMANCE FROM WHYTE!
    ROUND 4: WHYTE VS POVETKIN
Whyte gets off to a thunderous start in round four and unloads some heavy right hooks!
Povetkin looks hurt – but we’ve seen it all before.
The Russian has the ability to pull a win from nothing. The last fight between the two is a prime example of that.
Whyte is getting some joy with the straight jab.
Both fighters are going for the knockout.
    ROUND 3: WHYTE VS POVETKIN
Povetkin comes out fighting, he’s trying to get as close to Whyte as possible to land some heavy body shots.
Whyte has a slight wobble but is quickly back to his feet.
The Brit then lands a stiff shot to Povetkin’s body and the Russian is feeling the effects.
Whyte is trying to keep his distance whilst using his reach advantage.
    ROUND 2: WHYTE VS POVETKIN
Povetkin steps in and Whyte sends the Russian stumbling again. Whyte looks switched on.
He can’t afford to let his concentration slip this time, he needs to finish the job!
Povetkin lands a nice combination to push Whyte towards the ropes, but the Brit responds with some shots of his own.
Whyte is leading his his left hand, looking to connect a couple shots to Povetkin’s body.
The pair are trading punches in the middle of the ring.
    ROUND 1: WHYTE VS POVETKIN
Here we go. Twelve rounds of boxing!
Whyte has Povetkin STUMBLING across the ring after a series of wild swings! What a start by the Brit!
Povetkin manages to regain his composure and the pair are facing off in the middle of the ring.
Whyte lands another strong right hand – Povetkin has started very slow.
    TALE OF THE TAPE
Here’s how both fighters shape up!

    WHYTE VS POVETKIN
Whilst Sky follow Dillian Whyte with their cameras from his locker room, the crowd inside the Europa Point Sports Complex are singing their hearts out to Kings of Leon!
Here’s Whyte! He’s pumped up and looks ready to go. Revenge is very much on his mind.
David Diamante then welcomes WBC interim world heavyweight champion, Alexander Povetkin.
    It’s main event time!
    RUMBLE ON THE ROCK
Here’s what both fighters had to say ahead of tonight’s fight.
Whyte says Povetkin – who had been dropped twice – was about to be pulled out by his corner before his miracle punch last summer in their first fight, but Povetkin says this wasn’t the case.
Whyte said: “I lost to him but he was done – they were saying ‘we are pulling you out at the end of this round.
“They know him better than me. It’s hard for me to say what they were thinking, but don’t worry, I’ll try and help their hand this time. I definitely want to knock him out, one hundred percent.
Povetkin replied: “There was no such conversation in the corner [to stop the fight last time round].
“The people who know me know that I fight until the end. You can’t throw the towel in until the referee stops the fight.”

Dillian Whyte yet to see his four-month-old son in person due to intense fight camp for Povetkin rematch

DILLIAN WHYTE revealed he is yet to meet his four-month-old son due to his intense training camps for the Alexander Povetkin rematch. The Body Snatcher, 32, has been away from his family for the best part of a year.
Dillian Whyte has still not met his four-month-old son due to being in training camps for the Alexander Povetkin fightCredit: Mark Robinson Matchroom Boxing
A large part of that was in Portugal but he was forced to switch to Spain in February before the fight was staged in Gibraltar on Saturday night.
And the dedication to exacting revenge after defeat to Povetkin in August means he still hasn’t seen his baby in the flesh.
Instead, he has been reduced to daily FaceTime calls and hailed his son’s mum for all her efforts.
Speaking to iFL TV behind the scenes after the fourth-round KO against the Russian, Whyte detailed the extent of his sacrifice.
He said: “My child hasn’t seen me. I’ve never met my son. Never.
“My son is four months old and I’ve never seen him.
“I call everyday and his mother has been great.
“It’s all good man but I worry because that’s what worriers do. You can’t be a half-term worrier you have to put everything in.”

Whyte was left frustrated he did not finish off the job last summer despite putting Povetkin down on the canvas.
There would be no reprieve for the veteran this time around, though, as a brutal combination sealed the early knockout – with the referee waving it off before the ten count.
Brixton’s boxing hero said: “I am just sad I didn’t get it finished in the first round but he is a tough guy.
“I was on him in the first round but I knew I had to relax and not go hell for leather. I knew he was a former world and Olympic champion.
“That is probably the best right-hand knockout of my career.

“[Speaking about the finishing left hook] No one can take that punch from me and stand up, they will all go down.
“I still believe I can be a world champion and beat anyone.”
But after the savage finish, Whyte showed his sporting side by bringing over a stool for his beaten opponent then poured water on him to cool him down.
It did not take long before the focus turned to his next opponent with the WBC interim heavyweight belt back in his grasp.
Heading Stateside to challenge former WBC king Deontay Wilder was one suggestion from Eddie Hearn.

Classy Dillian Whyte shows amazing sportsmanship by offering Alexander Povetkin a stool after brutal fourth-round KO

And Whyte, 32, exacted revenge on the veteran Russian following August’s loss with a fourth-round stoppage.
A brutal combination of heavy hitting had Povetkin, 41, down on the canvas and the referee waved it off before even reaching the ten count.
But with the victory wrapped up, Whyte proved his sportsmanship side.
Povetkin – whose only two previous pro losses were to Wladimir Klitschko and Anthony Joshua – was getting treatment from his team standing in his corner.

One said: “I love how Whyte got a stool for Povetkin, both fighters have great respect for each other, just good vibes.. Really nice to see.”
Another wrote: “Love the respect from Whyte after the fight there. Getting Povetkin a stool and checking he was ok rather the celebrate. Why can’t all boxers do that. You love to see it.”
And a third added: “Down goes Povetkin and it’s OVER! Whyte brings a stool and pays his respect to Povetkin to make sure he’s alright. That’s boxing!!”
The result got Whyte back to winning ways following his shock defeat at Matchroom HQ in Essex last summer – after dropping Povetkin earlier in the fight.
And it will not take long before the focus turns to his next opponent with the WBC interim heavyweight belt back in his grasp.
Heading Stateside to challenge former WBC king Deontay Wilder was one suggestion from Eddie Hearn.
But for now Whyte is basking in the win, his first since December 2019.
Brixton’s finest said: “I am just sad I didn’t get it finished in the first round but he is a tough guy.

However, with Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury set to fight twice in the coming months, Whyte will have to wait a little bit longer for his crack at a world title.
Hearn revealed there is interest in a massive fight with former WBC champ Wilder, 35, who hasn’t fought since his one-sided defeat to Fury in Las Vegas last February.
Speaking after Whyte’s win in Gibraltar, Hearn said: “I’d like to see him box quickly again in the summer, maybe go over to the States and have a fight over there.
I’d like to get him back out quickly, maybe to the States for a big fight.”
The Essex promoter added: “The ultimate aim for Dillian Whyte has always been to challenge for the world heavyweight title.
