Tyson Fury open to Anthony Joshua fight at Wembley after Khan offer but London mayor told to put money where mouth is

TYSON FURY is open to having his huge undisputed heavyweight title fight with Anthony Joshua staged in the UK, according to his promoter Frank Warren. The Gypsy King and AJ have been negotiating a monumental two-fight deal for the pair to clash in the summer, with the rematch to take place in November or December.

Both sides signed the fight contract last month and were given 28 days to agree a site, date and financial particulars.
And over the weekend, both Joshua and Fury confirmed they’d been presented with offers from various countries to host the fight.
Saudi Arabia looks to be the frontrunner, but Qatar, Russia, Uzbekistan, the US and the UK were all mentioned by Fury, too.
Fury’s British promoter Warren says talks for the first fight to be hosted in the UK have gone on for some time, with London mayor Sadiq Khan pledging his backing to the fight in an interview last week.
Warren told SunSport: “We’re just waiting for confirmation on a couple of offers, we’re waiting for them to come in and I understand they’re imminent.
“If the offers are acceptable then it’ll happen this summer. If the fighter’s expectation levels are being met then it should do.
“If they’re not met then everyone has got to step back and take a reality check.

“But I’m an optimist and I’m confident that what everyone’s working towards will happen. I do believe we will get something concrete.
“And there’s one other thing, we’ve been negotiating for a while now to put the fight on in the UK. We’ve been working to do that.
“If Sadiq Khan wants it at Wembley then he needs to put his hands in his pocket and make it happen.
“There’s interest from other countries of course but the UK thing is still there. Everything is governed, however, by what’s happening with the pandemic. No-one knows what’s going to happen.
“And I’m sure that if the money was right then Tyson would have no problem fighting in the UK again, despite previous comments. It’s all got to stack up to what the fighters want.”

It’s thought both Joshua and Fury will earn up to £100million each for their massive bout, but coronavirus restrictions across the globe have seeded doubt about just how much each fighter will take home.
There have been reports that potential host countries Saudi and Qatar would rather wait for the fight to take place later in the year, when more fans will be able to attend Joshua vs Fury.
Warren is keen for the fight to happen at Wembley Stadium in London, however, and hopes it can be done for the fans.
“I’d love the fight to be in the UK, the fans deserve it. It’s an all-British affair, it’s a history-making fight,” he added.
“It’s two British heavyweight fighters, with all four belts on the line. It’s never happened before, so it’s unique.”

Fury will have been out the ring for 17 months by the time a potential first fight with Joshua takes place, though.
And Warren has warned the WBC titleholder will move on if the negotiations continue to drag on.
He said: “If this goes on too long then Tyson will have to move on, he’s p****d off he’s been inactive, he wants to be out, he’s not going to hang about forever, that’s for sure.”

Whyte slams ‘s***-talker’ Tyson Fury and blasts his and Wilder’s ‘cherry-picked records’ with just one top-10 win each

DILLIAN WHYTE has slammed Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder for ‘cherry-picking’ their opponents as he claims his record is more impressive. The Brit is coming off the back of last month’s sensational knockout win over Alexander Povetkin, putting right his shock defeat to the Russian last August.

Whyte’s victory is the latest in a long line of impressive wins for the 33-year-old.
He has also already beaten the likes of Derek Chisora, Joseph Parker and Oscar Rivas in what is fast becoming an accomplished professional resume.
Meanwhile, Fury’s only major win since returning to the sport in 2018 came against Wilder last year.
And Wilder’s only high-profile victories have come against Luis Ortiz, knocking out the Cuban out in 2018 and then again in 2019.
Speaking about Fury, Whyte told Sky Sports: “Everyone let’s him get away with talking s***. It’s frustrating.
“Fury and Wilder get too much credit for their padded, cherry-picked records and have only beaten one current Ring Magazine top ten fighter each. I’ve beaten three.”
Although Fury has only beaten Wilder from those ranked in the top ten by The Ring magazine, he did also end Wladimir Klitschko’s 11-year unbeaten run with a brilliant victory in Germany in 2015.
The Gypsy King looks set to collide with Anthony Joshua later this year in an all-British fight for the undisputed heavyweight title.

Meanwhile, Whyte has set his sights on a clash with Wilder – a fight he has been calling for since 2017.
When quizzed on his plans for Whyte, promoter Eddie Hearn said: “I’d like to see him box quickly again in the summer, maybe go over to the States and have a fight over there.
“We called for the Deontay Wilder fight for a long, long time. [Wilder] actually DM’d Dillian Whyte and said I will never, ever give you that fight.
“And now he got knocked out and he’s calling for the fight with Dillian Whyte.
“For me that’s a stadium fight, that’s a colossal fight. I’d like to get him back out quickly, maybe to the States for a big fight.”

Many boxing fans have been tipping Fury to get the better of AJ ever since the announcement of their two-fight deal last June.
Former WBC heavyweight titleholder Bruno is part of that group and reckons the elusive ‘Gypsy King’ will be too much to handle for the unified champion.
Bruno, 59, told The Daily Mirror: “As for Fury versus Joshua, Fury is in front for me.
“He is a very dangerous guy because he doesn’t give a monkey’s who’s in front of him.
“He is a much better fighter than a lot of people give him credit for.
“He can move, he can punch, and he knows how to wind up his opponents with all different sorts of stuff.

“Anthony Joshua is very hungry as well but he still has a lot to learn.
“He needs a little bit more discipline and I don’t know how he lost to that guy Andy Ruiz Junior.
“I haven’t got anything against Joshua but Fury is a very underestimated guy and he’s a force to be reckoned with.”
Early on Monday morning, Joshua revealed he’d received ‘the first official offer’ to host the long-awaited Battle of Britain.
He wrote on Twitter and Instagram: “Positive news this evening! I’m lacing up my running boots rn!

“@258MGT and @Matchroomboxing have received the first OFFICIAL offer to host the Undisputed Heavyweight Championship Of The WORLD!
“I will be victorious God Willing! No place to hide now! I’M COMING!”
Matchroom Boxing chief Eddie Hearn has received offers from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Singapore, China, America, Dubai and the UK to host the blockbuster fight.
He told Sky Sports: “Joshua doesn’t talk much about fights – but he talks when it’s close.
“You can feel the excitement building.

“We are in a great place with several offers on the table. I’m quietly confident.
“It was nice to see Fury post with enthusiasm because he feels that we are close.
“The teams will get together. I will try to see Bob Arum on Tuesday. We’re nearly there. We have worked really hard and we don’t want to give in.
“We’re in a good place, nice and close. I can’t do any more than I’m doing. People know that we’re on the verge.

Watch Efe Ajagba score stunning KO of year with brutal one-punch destruction as heavyweight eyes Anthony Joshua fight

HEAVYWEIGHT Efe Ajagba improved to 15-0 with a stunning knockout of the year contender against Brian Howard. The Nigerian, who has called out Anthony Joshua in the past, landed a beautiful right hand in round three.
    Efe Ajagba improved to 15-0

It left American Howard out for the count and folded on the floor, Ajagba’s 12th career KO.
Afterwards, he said: “I felt good. I tried to pick the punches, use the jab. This guy is very slick sometimes. I tried to do the job.
“He was shaky, so when I went back to the corner after the first round, my coach told me to take my time, start with the body, leave the head.”
“I trained for this fight, took my time, started with my boxing foundation, and came back strong.
“This camp was the best one for me, the best camp ever in my boxing career. It’s my time to shine, so I’m coming for the heavyweights.”
Despite the power puncher sending a frightening message out to the division, Ajagba’s son Ejiro Tiyon enjoyed it more than most.
Ajagba posted a video of his little boy’s reaction to the highlight-reel finish, which produced all smiles from Ejiro Tiyon.
The 26-year-old is ranked No11 in both the WBC and WBA, held by Tyson Fury, 32, and Joshua, 31.

AJ, like Ajagba, has African heritage which led to the heavyweight contender calling out the unified champion.
He told Sky Sports in September: “The people would support Joshua because he is the heavyweight champ.
“Skill would beat Joshua, not power. Me and Joshua both have the power. But skills control the power. I have more skills.”

Joshua posted on social media: “Positive news this evening! I’m lacing up my running boots rn!!!
“@258MGT and @Matchroomboxing have received the first OFFICIAL offer to host the Undisputed Heavyweight Championship Of The WORLD!
“I will be victorious God willing! No place to hide now! IM COMING.”
Joshua, 31, and Fury, 32, signed a two-fight deal in March, and promoters gave themselves a 28-day period to have a venue and date set in stone.

That deadline expired on the weekend, but it was self-inflicted, and not a deal breaker.
Both the heavyweight champions are set to be confronted with other site deals, as Fury teased at least six interested parties recently.
Due to current questions marks over travel and live crowds, potential suitors have made it clear they will offer more money by the end of the year.
But AJ’s promoter Eddie Hearn has warned that is not an option, with plans to push ahead for a July fight.

The superstars are deciding on the venue for their world heavyweight title unification showdown.
Contracts and potential venue details are being presented today.
Hearn has ruled out the possibility of delaying the fight until the end of the year.
Wembley is an option but the stumbling block remains enabling a full stadium crowd to attend due to Covid-19 restrictions as Hearn confirmed to Sky Sports on Saturday.
He said: “We are very close. Tomorrow [Sunday] both guys will be presented with the options for a fight in the summer.
“Joshua doesn’t talk much about fights – but he talks when it’s close. You can feel the excitement building.
“We are in a great place with several offers on the table. I’m quietly confident. It was nice to see Fury post with enthusiasm because he feels that we are close.

“It [Wembley] will be presented. Financially, it’s not at the races.
“The question is: can we get 100,000 fans on July 24, the potential date in London? The answer is ‘we hope so’. It is difficult to make a decision on that basis.
“This is why it’s taking longer than expected. It’s the logistics, testing policies, crowds.
“But now is the time to make this fight. Now. The summer. We may not get this opportunity again.
“Both guys accept that and are ready for the challenge.”

But the Gypsy King taunted ‘one day left’ as their agreement deadline drew closer.
The heavyweight champions signed a two-fight deal in March, and promoters gave themselves a 28-day period to have a venue and date set in stone.
But as this weekend’s deadline approached, Fury twice referenced on social media that the clock is ticking.
In his latest, he wrote: “One day left.” Accompanied by three alarm clocks.
But AJ was quick to assure fans himself, his management group 258 and Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing are still in talks with the opposition.
He tweeted: “Quick update. Myself, @258mgt & @MatchroomBoxing are working really hard to make the fight happen.
“I want to give my fans what they want & you know I’ll do whatever I can to deliver. Hoping to share some positive news soon.”

Eddie Hearn recently confirmed the deadline is not a deal-breaker, and various mega-money site deals are being laid out to both camps in the coming days.
He told SunSport: “It’s a self-inflicted deadline from both teams that we agreed that should give us enough time to secure it.
“Both teams will have the options presented to them this weekend, so there will be discussions early next week.
“We’ll say, ‘We like that one’ or, ‘We’d like a bit more money’. All these different things are yet to be discussed.
“We’ll work together and say well this is the option, let’s go.
“We’re very close and we’re around the numbers which I think gets this done. I think once it’s presented, I think we’ll be fine.”
Fury has vowed to chin AJ if the pair do meet.
And the Gypsy King is in excellent shape despite wife Paris forcing him to have a Chinese takeaway.
