Tyson Fury open to cage fight with MMA gloves but rules out UFC switch as grappling is ‘not noble science’

TYSON FURY is open to fighting in a cage with MMA gloves – but ruled out a UFC switch as he said grappling is ‘not noble science’. The unbeaten WBC heavyweight champion has hinted at debuting in the octagon once he hangs up his boxing gloves.
Heavyweight champ Tyson Fury has previously done MMA training with UFC star Darren Till

And Fury, 32, even spent some time training with former UFC title challenger Darren Till, 28, in 2019 working on MMA.
Recently, women’s boxing star Claressa Shields successfully kick-started her MMA career with a win under the Professional Fighters League banner.
But it still has not convinced Fury, who had trained with UFC veteran Nick Diaz in Miami, to make a similar move.
He told talkSPORT: “No, I’ve got no real interest in grappling up and down on the floor and all that sort of stuff.
“I’m a stand-up fighting man, I don’t wrestle up and down and grab each other’s arms and sit on each other and all that.
“I’ve no interest in all that stuff – I like to stand up and fight so would I ever compete as an MMA fighter? Hell no!
“Would I compete with small gloves on in a cage in a fight? Yes. But no gripping and grappling.
“The noble art of standing up and what men have been doing for centuries. I don’t see any noble science in wrestling up and down the floor.

“No disrespect to any of those guys who do that, but it’s none of my interest. Nothing that I would ever want to do.
“In my world, when a man goes down, you stand back and let him come back up again because you don’t want a rock or a fall to spoil your victory.
“I’m not going to let someone say, ‘I tripped over and he beat me that way.’ I want him to get back up and fight fair.
“When a man goes down, you get in and give him a ten count and let him fight on if you can.
“That’s how we fight, that’s how it’s been going on for thousands of years.”
With Fury’s sole focus on boxing, his attention is firmly fixed on heavyweight rival Deontay Wilder, 35, ahead of their trilogy fight.
The Brit first drew with Wilder in 2018, but empathically won the rematch last February.
Fury looked to be in line for an undisputed title decider with Anthony Joshua, 31, in August having attempted to move on from his contracted trilogy with Wilder.

But the American took his case to arbitration and after months he was awarded the right to another fight with the Gypsy King.
It has set up a second rematch set for July 24 in Las Vegas, and Fury has guaranteed he will improve on his seventh-round win last year.
He said: “I gave my game plan away the last time because he wasn’t good enough to do anything about it. I’ll do the same thing this time.
“Wilder is a one-trick pony. What I’ll do this time? I’ll run him over like I’m an 18-wheeler. I guarantee he does not go past where he did before.
“Before, I only had five or six weeks practicing what to do to him. This time, I’ve had 18 months.
“I’m building my weight up, trying to get up to 300lbs, because I’m looking for a big knockout straight away.
“I don’t believe he’s mentally, physically or emotionally involved.
“He’s doing this for the wrong reasons and, when people do that, they wind up getting hurt.”

Tyson Fury taunts Deontay Wilder by wearing custom suit with secret message at trilogy fight press conference

TYSON FURY has revealed that the suit for his trilogy fight press conference with Deontay Wilder had a hidden meaning. The two bitter enemies came face-to-face in Las Vegas to officially announce their July 24 clash.

That was the first time Fury had set eyes on the American since he destroyed him Stateside in February 2020.
The Gypsy King floored the Bronze Bomber twice and stopped him in the seventh in their rematch following the controversial draw in their first meeting.
After Fury’s convincing triumph, Wilder accused him of cheating as he continued to roll out excuses for weeks.
And then just as it seemed WBC champ Fury was set to unify the heavyweight division and face fellow title holder Anthony Joshua, Wilder successfully enforced his legal right to a third fight.
However, on Tuesday night the Englishman appeared keen to make Wilder remember the night from 14 months ago.
Fury, who even once turned up for a media outing dressed as Batman, wore a custom made suit for the press conference that was covered in images from his epic win over Wilder.
He told reporters: “This is a reminder of what happened to him last time.
“There’s me on the throne, there’s me dressed in the kings outfit, there’s me with the belt I won off him as well. This is a remembrance suit of Deontay Wilder’s a*** kicking.”

Meanwhile, Fury has cast major doubt over an undisputed heavyweight title fight with AJ by claiming he is no longer ‘interested’ in the bout.
Boxing fans across the globe are hoping the pair will throw down later this year, but WBC champ Fury is no longer bothered about facing his fellow Brit.
He told talkSPORT: “Undisputed and unifying jobs, it’s all bulls*** to me. I’m not interested.
“Whoever the fights are who is there and is available to fight, we fight.
“As for like undisputed and unified, I’ve done all that.

“I’ve done unification with [Wladimir] Klitschko, I’ve won all the belts before.
“Two-time world champion without being beat. I could just rattle on about what I’ve done for the next two hours. But we already know what I’ve done, we already know who I am.
“Boxing is boxing. Whether they fight, whether I fight, fine, that’s it.
“No matter if I fight a guy that’s absolutely rubbish or I fight the best guy in the world, I still train hard, I still dedicate [myself], I still sacrifice to it. You’ll never catch Tyson Fury on the off, ever.
“Because I know you never underestimate the underdog because I’ve been the underdog every single time in every single fight I’ve ever had. But I always come out on top.”

Fury had inked a two-fight deal to face AJ before their long-awaited showdown was scuppered by the judge’s ruling in Wilder’s favour.
But the 32-year-old insists it didn’t disrupt any preparations, saying: “I wasn’t in camp when it all went off.
“I was in Miami with my family, actually, enjoying life.
“So I always knew, I always said in a lot of interviews, ‘ I couldn’t fight Deontay Wilder next. Don’t write that off.’

“There was always arbitration court thing going on with the fight and everybody knew about it. So it was what it was.
“The judge found it fit to extend their contract when it was over and that was it. So we’re in the position.”
Fury isn’t at all gutted about the biggest fight of his career going south and reckons it could be a ‘blessing in disguise’.
The lineal heavyweight champ said: “Am I bothered? Not really. Is it a blessing in disguise?
“Probably, everything happens for a reason. I’ve been believing that my whole, so I have to be inclined to believe it today as well.”
Fury is set to renew his rivalry with Wilder on July 24 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Joshua, meanwhile, is set to defend his unified titles against his WBO mandatory Oleksandr Usyk on September 25, although an official announcement has not yet been made.

Mike Tyson admit he was ‘wrong’ about Logan Paul as he reveals he phoned YouTuber after Floyd Mayweather fight

BOXING legend Mike Tyson FaceTimed Logan Paul to admit he was ‘wrong’ about how he’d fare in his showdown with Floyd Mayweather. The YouTuber turned boxer locked horns with Money in an exhibition bout earlier this month, which many predicted would end with him face down on the canvas.

But the 26-year-old ended up taking the former five-weight world champion the distance – a result that forced Tyson to apologise for his pre-fight prediction.
Iron Mike told the social medial superstar:” You kicked his a**. You’re bad, I was wrong!
“I’m proud of you, you kicked a**, I’m proud of you… Everybody’s talking about you, you’re the man.
“You went eight rounds with the greatest of all times, I was telling people they don’t want to try that s***. You got him with those punches.”
Mayweather, 44, was equally as surprised by Paul’s performance, which he was quick to praise in his post-fight interview.
He said: “I had fun. You got to realise that I’m not 21 no more.

“But it’s good to move around with these young guys, test my skills – just to have some fun.
“[He was] a great level fighter. Strong, tough. He’s better than I thought he was.”
When asked about Paul potentially having a successful career, he said: “As far as with the big guys, the heavyweights, it’s going to be kind of hard.
“But he’s a tough, rough competitor. It was good action, we had fun.
“I was surprised by him tonight. Good little work. Good guy.
“I fought against a heavyweight, but I had fun. Even though he don’t got much experience.

“He knew how to use his weight and he knew how to tie me up tonight.
“I had fun, I’m pretty sure he had fun. And hopefully the fans enjoyed it.”
Paul was over the moon to have gone the distance with the undefeated Mayweather but reckons Pretty Boy may have taken it easy on him.
He said: “The fact I am in here with one of the greatest boxers of all time proves that the odds can be beaten.
“It’s one of the greatest moments in my life. I’m going to go home thinking if he let me survive”

Tyson Fury claims ‘s**thouse’ Deontay Wilder ‘didn’t want to be there’ after losing five-minute-long staredown

TYSON FURY insists Deontay Wilder was just trying to save face in their epic staredown – which lasted a whopping five minutes. The WBC king is set to renew his rivalry with the American in a Las Vegas trilogy fight on July 24.

Fury and Wilder, 32 and 35 respectively, went face-to-face with one another at a pre-fight press conference in Los Angeles on Tuesday and took part in an intense face-off.
Wilder broke the staredown, an act which prompted Fury to declare: “He didn’t want to be there.
“It was a mental thing that he was trying, but he needed someone to rescue him. Because he didn’t want to be there.
“He was uncomfortable stood there looking at me. I’d been still there now.”
Wilder didn’t answer a single question during the presser, leaving the talking to his new head coach Malik Scott.
When asked for his thoughts on Wilder’s silence, Fury said: “Because he’s a s**thouse. How about that?”

The Gypsy King stopped Wilder in the seventh round of their Las Vegas rematch last February, which saw him complete a fairytale comeback from the depths of depression and addiction.
And he reckons the brutal defeat has had a profound ’emotional and physical effect’ on The Bronze Bomber.
During the presser, he said of Wilder’s silence: “It shows how weak of a mental person he is.
“It shows how much the beating from the last fight has taken an emotional and physical effect on his life.
“I was worried about Deontay Wilder for quite a while after the defeat I gave him.
“Obviously he’s doing his little thing with his earphones on and he doesn’t want to answer any questions, that’s up to him. I’m here to promote a fight and talk to the press – what I always do.

“So if Deontay Wilder doesn’t want to commit to this press conference, then I’ll take his part.
“I’ll play a double character if you want?
“I’m quite good at this role playing stuff so I’ll be both Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury and we’ll play a little game.”
Fury’s trilogy fight with Wilder – which was ordered by a judge after months of arbitration – scuppered an undisputed heavyweight title fight with unified champ Anthony Joshua.
But veteran promoter Bob Arum has blamed Eddie Hearn for the collapse of the fight, saying: “It close but not a cigar.
“The problem was Eddie Hearn was screwing around with the deal he was trying to make with the Saudis.
“And it went on months and months and months because instead of making just a site deal, you know, ‘Give us some money and we’ll bring over the fight’, he tried to sell them all of the rights, all of the television rights.

“And they aren’t fools. They had to do due diligence, they have to check what the split [was going to be].
“Remember, they didn’t know that the cable companies got a big piece of it. They didn’t know anything.
“So they had to learn it back and forth and then there was Ramadan and we went nowhere – nowhere.
“And meanwhile, the arbitration was limping along and the judge decided the case for them.
“I don’t necessarily think it was right, but the judge decided. But he would’ve, in my opinion, not enjoined Tyson to fight Joshua if the fight had been signed.
    “But it hadn’t been signed.”

Anthony Joshua fight with Tyson Fury collapsed because Eddie Hearn was ‘screwing around with Saudi deal’, slams Bob Arum

Joshua and Fury, 31 and 32 respectively, were on course to throw down in Saudi Arabia in August before an American judge ordered the latter to have a trilogy fight with Deontay Wilder.
But veteran promoter Arum has blamed the collapse of the blockbuster fight on his opposite number, saying: “It close but not a cigar.

Fury’s third meeting with Wilder is set to take place on July 24 at Las Vegas’ T-Mobile Arena.
Arum is optimistic a fight with AJ could still come to fruition this year, despite the unified champion’s September showdown with Oleksandr Usyk.

But Hearn, 42, insists talks over a potential end-of-year clash for all the marbles are currently dead in the water.
He told Sky Sports: “Do you know what, I think right now, let’s just forget about that fight.
“The only good thing to come out of this is that we have two good heavyweight fights.
“These aren’t marking time fights for Fury and AJ. These are two competitive, dangerous fights.
“This summer, you’ve got Fury-Wilder and hopefully AJ-Usyk as well. Two good heavyweight fights.
“Once those two nights are complete, let’s go back to where we kicked off before, because right now, there’s no conversations from the other side to us saying, ‘Let’s just get it in the diary for December or January.’
“I don’t really want to get into that conversation.
“I want AJ to focus on Oleksandr Usyk.
“Any work that takes place will go on behind closed doors, but we can’t make the same mistake that we made against Andy Ruiz, which was, ‘We just want Wilder, we just want Wilder.'” More

Deontay Wilder recites poem to topless Tyson Fury and vows to ‘cut off his head’ before wearing headphones to snub Brit

Alabama’s former world champion did a limp Muhammad Ali impression with a supposedly threatening poem that read: “Enough said, time to cut off his head. Come July 24 there will be blood shed.”
But 32-year-old Fury skewered him expertly over the same empty threats he made before their February 2020 rematch that cost the American his crown.
Curvy WBC king Fury said: “You said all this bloodshed and decapitation stuff before and we know what happened, so people have a lot of questions for Wilder.
“It shows how weak he is mentally and how much the last beating has taken a toll on his life.
“I was worried about him for a while and he is doing this little thing with his earphones now.
“I am here to promote the fight so if he doesn’t want to then I will play both parts.”
Wilder has employed a new trainer in long-time friend Malik Scott but Fury insists he will not be able to teach an old champion new tricks.
The Brit, who battered Wilder inside seven one-sided Las Vegas rounds, said: “Wilder is a stubborn person so listening to other people is not what he does.
