Anthony Joshua could be forced to vacate world title if he beats Oleksandr Usyk in rematch and fights Tyson Fury

ANTHONY JOSHUA could be forced to vacate one of the world title belts if he beats Oleksandr Usyk. The Watford boxer suffered his second defeat as a pro when he easily lost on points to the Ukrainian in September.
Anthony Joshua will try and reclaim his belts from Oleksandr Usyk in a rematchCredit: ©Ian Walton Matchroom Boxing
The pair have agreed the rematch, with the finer points of where and when still to be thrashed out.
If AJ somehow manages to find a way to beat Usyk, it could bring back the dream Tyson Fury clash.
But that might not be for ‘all the belts’.
The WBA could push for their mandatory man, Robert Helenius, to get his shot at the title.
That could mean AJ gives up that belt to sign the multi-million pound fight against fellow Brit Fury.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Helenius’ manager Markus Sundman explained: “Right now we are focused on the WBA mandatory position.

“Robert fought a WBA elimination bout in March 2020 against Adam Kownacki, and he placed a stamp on that victory in the rematch on October 9.
“Usyk should really be Robert’s next bout.
“We will do what is necessary to assure Robert’s rightful position as Usyk’s next WBA mandatory.
“In the end, of course we have respect for [president] Gilberto [Mendoza] and the WBA, and we think that ultimately they will do the correct thing and formally order Robert as the next mandatory.
“The WBA mandatory is due next, and that must be Robert.”

The WBA are likely to allow the Joshua-Usyk rematch to go ahead before pushing for Helenius to fight the winner.
Joshua, meanwhile, is enjoying some down time Stateside after his recent defeat.
The 32-year-old is touring some big-name gyms in the hope of adding more weapons to his arsenal.
And after training with Mike Tyson’s old coach Ronnie Shields, he has told the American to ‘turn him into a dog’ for the big rematch.

Anthony Joshua tells Mike Tyson’s old coach Ronnie Shields to turn him into a DOG for Oleksandr Usyk rematch

ANTHONY JOSHUA has told potential new trainer Ronnie Shields to bring out the dog in him against Oleksandr Usyk. The 32-year-old Watford ace has left under-fire mentor Rob McCracken to go on a tour of some of America’s best gyms following the punishing September loss of his heavyweight world titles.

And the 2012 Olympic golden boy spent a couple of days studying the unanimous points loss with Mike Tyson’s former trainer, before doing some padwork with the 63-year-old.
And respected veteran Shields, who is currently guiding WBC middleweight champ Jermall Charlo, claims Joshua wants to tap into his inner beast to avenge his last toothless performance.
Shields told The Boxing Voice: “The first thing he told me when he came here, he told me, ‘listen, I know people don’t think that I’m a dog, I’m just a pure boxer, look, I’m gonna be a dog in this next fight’. And that’s his words.
“He told me, ‘I’m gonna be a dog in this fight, I just need you to show me how to be the best dog that you can teach me to be’.
“That answered the question for me because my thing to him was, ‘why did you box the whole time?’, and he said he thought he could out-box him, and that was the game plan.
“To me that was the wrong fight, now he knows that was the wrong fight. To teach a man to be a dog he has to have the dog instincts in him already.

“He says he has it in him, if things work out and I’m training him and once it comes down to it, now in the gym is the time to show it and in the fight you’ve got to show it too.
“It’s going to be hard work, we sat down and talked about everything and I think everything went great.”
McCracken’s work with Joshua has been rightly celebrated but he was forced to allow two more coaches into the corner after the June 2019 loss to Andy Ruiz Jr.
Angel Fernandez and Joby Clayton helped Josh regain his belts from the Mexican and knockout Kubrat Pulev in December.
But some of the tactics and cheerleading captured on camera, in between the late rounds Usyk comfortably banked, left fight fans baffled.
And Shields has revealed Joshua has already afforded him hours just to talk about the sweet science and he has been surprised by his lack of knowledge.
    ‘NEVER TAUGHT THAT’
He added: “In the last two days everything seemed to go well. The first day was just all talk, we talked for about three or four hours.
“We watched a few rounds of the Usyk fight together and I just pointed out some things that I thought he should’ve done that he didn’t do.
“‘We had a great talk yesterday, today was even greater. There’s something I showed him that he said, ‘man, I was never taught to do this’.
“It surprises me that a guy who was the heavyweight champion of the world doesn’t know certain things.”
Team AJ insist no decision has been made on the future of the backroom staff and Joshua is just on a busman’s holiday to the US soaking up knowledge from a range of gyms and trainers.
But Shields seems to already be formulating a plan for the Englishman to exact rematch revenge over Usyk, that could spell the end McCracken’s brilliant tenure.

The former featherweight said: “‘Obviously it wasn’t the right game plan, I told him he didn’t fight like himself. I think he’s a much better fighter than what he showed in that Usyk fight.
“I watched a few rounds with him and his team, I told him about certain things and he said, ‘yeah man, that’s what we should’ve done, but we didn’t do it’.
“When you have a game plan you have to work on it every day, you have to get it down pat before that fight and when you get in there you have to do things you did in the gym.
“I don’t know what their game plan was, obviously it wasn’t the right one and I guess he didn’t feel like it was the right one so this is why he wanted to make a change.”

Otto Wallin breaks silence on abandoned Dillian Whyte fight as promoter confirms plans to launch WBC petition

OTTO WALLIN and his team will push the WBC to reschedule the Dillian Whyte fight – with the hope of getting a rematch against WBC champ Tyson Fury. The Swedish boxer has been left devastated after Whyte picked up an injury in training and the WBC interim title fight on October 30 was called off.

That means Whyte is still the mandatory challenger for Fury’s iconic green belt that he successfully defended with an 11th-round KO of Deontay Wilder in their trilogy.
But Wallin’s promoter Dmitriy Salita wants the fight rescheduled as soon as possible – and will take his case to the WBC if necessary.
Wallin, 30, gave Fury some hairy moments when they fought in 2019. A huge cut opened up on Fury’s forehead that required 47 stitches.
But the Gypsy King managed to secure a unanimous points victory in a messy scrap.
Speaking about the Whyte fight cancellation, Salita told Sky Sports: It’s very disappointing.
“If it is an injury, then he should heal, and they should reschedule this event. That would be the fair thing to do.

“It would not be fair to the sport of boxing for Dillian Whyte to have an injury, whatever it is, and as a result of that, to be able to be mandated to fight Fury.
“Otto is ready to go to the UK today. He had a complete training camp and this fight guarantees a lot of attention and it was truly the right eliminator for the fight with Fury.
“The fight has to be rescheduled for a later date and the winner of that fight should fight Tyson Fury. Anything else would be unfair to the sport of boxing, and unfair to Otto Wallin.
“We’re definitely going to petition the WBC to make a decision.
“That’s what should be decided – the winner of Whyte-Wallin fights Tyson Fury.
“The WBC will pass what I feel is an important decision, which should set things right.”
SunSports understands Whyte has suffered a shoulder injury in training and is unable to compete.
DAZN and Matchroom are pushing ahead with the rest of the card, with Alen Babic and Eric Molina the new headline attraction.
SunSport understands Babic, 30, offered to step in and fight Wallin but the Swede’s camp refused.

Tyson Fury reacts to old image of him before huge weight loss but says it’s ‘100 per cent body of peak male performance’

TYSON FURY has shared a photo of himself before his dramatic weight loss – and insisted he was at ‘peak male athletic performance’.The WBC heavyweight champ posted a flashback of how he looked before he was scheduled to rematch Wladimir Klitschko in 2016.
This is what Tyson Fury looked like back in 2016 – the WBC champ shared this on social media
Fury is now leaner and packed with more muscle and power – as he showed by KO’ing Deontay WilderCredit: Alamy
That fight never happened after Fury decided to take time out of boxing to battle mental health issues and alcohol addiction.
The Morecambe mauler also suffered with weight issues – ballooning up to 28st and admitting to gorging on pizza, kebabs and packs of chocolate.
He captioned a photo of him at a Klitschko presser: “You may not like it, but this body represents peak male athletic performance and there isn’t a god damn thing you can do about it.”
The 33-year-old then re-shared it adding ‘haha’ with a laughing emoji and ‘100%’.
Fury weighed 19st 11lb for his trilogy fight against Deontay Wilder earlier this month – the heaviest he has hit the scales at for a fight.
But it clearly gave him the power he needed to KO his American opponent as the fight was waved off in the 11th round.

Fury shocked the world when he easily outboxed Klitschko in 2015 to become unified heavyweight champion.
But the Gypsy King had to give up all his titles to fight his demons outside the ring.
Then Fury made one of the most sensational of returns to the ring that culminated in him beating Wilder for a second time.
The pair drew their first meeting in 2018 – but most believed Fury should have been awarded the victory.

‘insurmountable edge’ – Tyson Fury backed to have huge advantage over UFC ace Francis Ngannou as fight talk continues

TYSON FURY will have an ‘insurmountable edge’ if he ever fights UFC star Francis Ngannou in a boxing ring. The Gypsy King has been linked with a sensational switch to MMA after his boxing career comes to an end.

Meanwhile Ngannou has previously stated he fancies a dabble in the noble art.
But legendary trainer Teddy Atlas does not fancy Ngannou’s chances against the WBC heavyweight champ in boxing.
Speaking to Submission Radio: “I think the making of that is really all based on money.
“Let’s be honest with ourselves, if it’s not gonna be based on MMA rules, if it’s gonna be with boxing rules, the guy who’s been boxing since he was 12 years old.
“The guy who’s had 200 amateur fights, the guy who’s trained in a gym for all those years to be a top boxer, he’s gonna have a huge edge. Maybe an insurmountable edge to be quite frank.
“We probably fool ourselves because we want to fool ourselves. We want to be entertained, we want to believe it.

“If you’re gonna support this fight, you wanna believe that the big monster from Cameroon can land a punch and knock the guy cold, even though he’s an MMA fighter and not a boxer.
“How often does a guy who’s not as developed, not nearly as developed as the top fighter, how many times have we really seen where he’s got a puncher’s edge, not too often.
“It would be a big money fight. Would it be competitive? Most likely not. Fury is a pretty complete package, besides having the advantage of years and years of boxing training.”
Tyson’s dad John recently said that he believes his son WILL make the move into MMA when he hangs the boxing gloves up.
    FURY’S MMA MOVE
He told Joe: “I think the rougher it gets for Tyson, the better he likes it.
“It brings what they call, I dunno, something different to his job, doesn’t it?
“It gives him more goals to achieve and more things to look at an address.
“I think that’s what Tyson wants, and when he does finally retire from boxing, he’ll probably go to that and probably come back to boxing.
“Whatever he does. But he will engage on that, you’ll see.”

The hidden meaning behind Deontay Wilder’s emotional message to Tyson Fury after their epic trilogy fight

DEONTAY WILDER finally sent an emotional message to Tyson Fury after their epic trilogy fight. But having snubbed the Gypsy King straight after the Las Vegas battle, SunSport can reveal the hidden meaning behind the Bronze Bomber’s change of tune.

But he eventually thanked the Brit for his part in the trilogy and SunSport can reveal what is behind the change of tackCredit: https://twitter.com/BronzeBomber
Fury called the American an ‘idiot’ and a ‘sore loser’ when he was snubbed by his great rival following last weekend’s 11-round thriller.
But the Bronze Bomber finally broke his silence with a classy message on Instagram on Thursday thanking God, his team, fans and Fury for ‘memories that will last forever’.
Many in the boxing world were stunned by Wilder’s approach – given the animosity between the two men in the build up.
But there are psychological reasons behind it – which SunSport can exclusively reveal.
Behavioural psychologist Jo Hemmings said: “Emotions run high both during and just after a fight.
“The stress hormones adrenalin and cortisol are at their peak, in order to give everything you have. Both boxers will have felt this.

“But while Fury will have felt elation at winning, Wilder will have felt huge disappointment in himself in losing (as well as being in some physical pain).
“He would not have been in the frame of mind to show kindness to his victorious opponent.
“However once the rage, stress and feelings of failure have subsided, along comes a sense of reflection – in part because heightened emotions will have dropped and also because Wilder realises that it would serve him well, moving forward to be respectful to Fury.
“By channelling his words through his faith, Wilder has managed to accept his fate and congratulate Tyson in the most appropriate and dignified way he could.”
Out of nowhere, Wilder uploaded a picture in his pre-fight outfit on Thursday and wrote: “Wow, what a hell of a night!
“I would like to first and foremost thank God for allowing me to give the world another part of me that’s driven with passion and determination.
“I would like to thank my team and my fans for sticking by my side through this long process.
‘I AM A TRUE WARRIOR AND KING’
“I would be lying if I said that I wasn’t disappointed in the outcome but after reflecting on my journey, I now see that what God wanted me to experience is far greater than what I expected to happen.
“We didn’t get the win but a wise man once said the victories are within the lessons. I’ve learned that sometimes you have to lose to win.
“Although, I wanted the win I enjoyed seeing the fans win even more.
“Hopefully, I proved that I am a true warrior and a true king in this sport.
“Hopefully, WE proved that no matter how hard you get hit with trials and tribulations you can always pick yourself up to live and fight again for what you believe in.
“Last but not least I would like to congratulate @gypsyking101 for his victory and thank you for the great historical memories that will last forever.”
The Gypsy King shared the post with a handshake emoji and said: “The greatest trilogy of all time.”

Wilder had restored so much of his reputation as he floored Fury twice before succumbing late on in the instant classic, after accusing his rival of cheating his way to his February 2020 win.
But the battered and bruised American appeared to blow his chance to turn the iconic rivalry into a fantastic fighting friendship with his conduct in the ring afterwards as Fury hit out at him for not congratulating his conqueror.
But Wilder’s co-manager Shelly Finkel insisted the ex-champion in fact DOES respect Fury, and would be open to accepting the peace offering now.

He then linked up with former heavyweight contender Malik Scott for the trilogy clash, which he also lost by stoppage.
And Mayweather seemed to send a message to Wilder via a recent social media post.
He said: “Please hit the follow button if you want to follow a humble student, teacher, mentor, and coach in the sport of boxing.
“He has all the credentials and qualifications to support why I recognize him as an elite boxing coach, something that nowadays many unqualified people claim to be. Follow Mark Breland.”
Responding to the comments, Scott said: “I wouldn’t say he [Mayweather] was talking s*** about me.
“I would say he was taking his usual random shots at Deontay, which indirectly is taking shots at me too since I’m Deontay’s head trainer, so it’s whatever.

“But what’s even more funny is Mark Breland has been a known legend for decades, but all of a sudden Floyd posts him with praise coincidentally a week after we lose to Fury.
“But then to make it even funnier, Mark Breland has never really liked Floyd anyway.
“On numerous occasions personally and publicly he’s always called Floyd an overrated big mouth that would have not stood a chance in his era.
