      Chris Eubank Jr vs Liam Williams new fight date announced after ban on boxing in Wales is lifted

      CHRIS EUBANK JR’s showdown with Liam Williams has been rescheduled for February 5.The two-time IBO super-middleweight champion’s second scheduled dust-up with the Welshman was due to take place on January 29 but was postponed due to Covid.

      But following the Welsh government’s decision to lift restrictions, the pair’s Cardiff clash will now take place a week later.
      Eubank Jr and Williams were first due to trade heavy leather last December until the latter aggravated a shoulder injury.
      Their second date fell through after the British Board of Boxing Control decided to suspend action for a month due to the surge in Omicron cases.
      A statement at the time read: “Following advice from the British Boxing Board of Control Medical Panel, Boxing tournaments under the jurisdiction of the BBBofC will be suspended for the month of January.
      “A further review by the Medical Panel and Stewards will take place prior to the planned recommencement of Boxing in February.”
      Eubank Jr – the son of British boxing great Chris Sr – has been engaged in a war of words with Welsh warrior Williams for several months.

      And the Hove hitman has vowed to make his outspoken opponent pay for his pre-fight jibes.
      Last November, the 32-year-old told Sky Sports: “This is a personal fight for me.
      “Most of the time, boxing is just business. You get in there, you fight another man and you just want to win.

      He wrote on his Instagram story: “Great fight guys, can’t wait for this fight,” followed by a series of popcorn emojis.
      Fury, who is on course to fight Dillian Whyte next, is keeping a close eye on proceedings surrounding Usyk following his stunning win over Anthony Joshua last year.
      That saw him claim AJ’s WBA, WBO and IBF belts and wreck any hopes of a bumper Fury vs Joshua British showdown.
      And if Usyk beats Joshua in April, with another fight set for the UK, it could finally give Fury the chance to unify the heavyweight division.
      However, the Ukrainian will at some point need to face his mandatory challengers.
      And that is why Fury highlighted the potential bust-up between Hrgovic and Yoka – which would keep the two dangerous heavyweights out of his path for the time being.

      Hrgovic, 29, is ranked as the No2 IBF heavyweight behind Charles Martin and has a perfect 14-0 pro boxing record.
      But Martin lost to Luis Ortiz on New Year’s Day, who in turn injured his hand while Joseph Parker is understood to have ducked a fight with Hrgovic because it did not pay enough.
      Joshua is No4 on the IBF list but will not need to go through an eliminator to get his shot at revenge.
      So the next on the list is Yoka.

      He added: “The way that his body and muscles are built, it will not allow him to keep throwing punches after the third round.
      “I’m not sure Francis can ever challenge the stamina or endurance of Tyson Fury.”
      Should the shock bout come to fruition, Lopez can only see former lineal heavyweight champ Fury having his hand raised.
      He said: “All he can do is have a high defence; be elusive, close footwork, change direction.
      “But eventually Tyson will wear him down, get him tired, work the body and then go up with the uppercut, and sooner or later Francis will give up because of the volume, because of the pressure shots and he will just go down. I don’t see how he can win the match, this is an opportunity for him to cash out.
      “I’m not sure if you’re a UFC fighter it’s worth letting it all go and have three years of steady boxing training – how would you live your life, what would be your income?
      “And after three years you may be competitive enough to stand there and keep throwing punches.
      “We are not expecting anything brilliant, Francis is not a boxer. You train a lot to be a boxer.
      “Boxing needs dedication, boxing needs sacrifice, you need years and years to train. So we know the outcome of that fight.”
      BUMPER PAY DAY
      That being said, Lopez reckons his former student – who is said to be out of contract at the end of the year – could make a bumper payday fighting Fury.
      He said: “The question is how much Francis Ngannou can make a lot of money, because he only has one shot.
      “Objectively speaking, he cannot think about having a boxing career because his boxing skill will not be enough for him to become a boxer.

      And renowned coach Don Charles believes the former unified heavyweight champion could very well regain the titles following his decision to have a new set of eyes oversee his progression.
      He told Boxing Social: “If that kid never ever boxes again or boxes and loses again, yeah, what he’s achieved and what he’s turned his life and his family’s lives into and the effect he’s had on boxing worldwide and all the children who are boxing in my gym, all the children that a boxing nationwide, worldwide, it’s all because of Anthony Joshua. The legacy.
      “I hope he goes and gets his victory. I think he’s more than capable of avenging that loss.”
      Joshua’s loyalty has been questioned following his apparent separation from McCracken, but Charles believes he’s more than entitled to seek different guidance following his crushing loss.

      Although the pair’s professional relationship may have come to an end, Charles reckons Joshua’s achievements with McCracken will never be forgotten.
      He said: “What him and Robert have achieved, it’s unthinkable.
      “If you turned around when he won the Olympic gold and told him, ‘In ten years time, you’re going to become the most recognised boxer on the planet worldwide.
      “‘You’re going to make X amount of money but there are conditions. Those conditions are: you’re going to lose to Andy Ruiz.
      “‘You’ll regain the title, but you’re going to lose to Andy Ruiz and then you’re also going to lose to a guy called Oleksandr Usyk.
      “‘Are you willing to take that or are you going to say no because I don’t want those losses?’ This is how life goes.”
      Joshua and Usyk, 32 and 34 respectively, were initially slated to renew their rivalry in March but are now set to do battle again in April.
      And AJ is hellbent on erasing the memory of the heartbreaking September night at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
      He told Sky Sports: “I have high expectations of myself.
      “That’s why I felt like when I lost the first time I never made excuses but I had my reason.

      And Fury is preparing for his next bout already even though a fight is yet to be agreed.
      His promoter Warren told talkSPORT: “Tyson wants to fight in the first quarter and we’re working very hard to make that happen.
      “He’s in strict training at the moment, he just wants to get out there.
      “We’re all frustrated – the big frustration is that we’ve not managed to get the fight between him and Usyk for the four belts – that’s the fight we all want to see.
      “In the mean time the WBC have ordered Tyson his mandatory against Whyte so that’s been a bit of a diversion.
      “What’s his mindset? He just wants to get in the ring he doesn’t care who he fights he just wants to get in there. He’s had one fight in two years now it’s a long time.”

      Last week Warren confirmed Fury’s next fight will take place on March 26 – but the venue for the contest and the opponent are yet to be decided.
      There has been talk of Fury fighting Whyte at Old Trafford or in Cardiff but there have been problems in the two parties reaching a deal.
      The WBC ruled that Fury and Whyte would receive 80 and 20 per cent splits of the fight purse – a decision which has angered the latter.
      Negotiations have since taken place which have delayed the purse bids but Whyte is unlikely to bump up his percentage as it is based on previous earnings.

      Usyk, 34, did start his decorated career as a middleweight amateur before going on to become undisputed cruiserweight king in the pros and then stepping up to stun AJ.
      Unlike Fury he has never served a doping ban nor been under suspicion of any illegal activities.
      Fury and his team are set for purse bids with Dillian Whyte on Tuesday as they try to arrange a March showdown.
      AJ snapped up the rematch clause after Usyk dominated him at Tottenham and is planning an April rerun.
