ANDY RUIZ JR is closing in on a mouthwatering heavyweight fight against Luis Ortiz.The Mexican, who shocked the world in June 2019 when he beat Anthony Joshua to be crowned unified champ, was being lined up to face Deontay Wilder.

But the former WBC king is still considering his future after two shattering losses to Tyson Fury.
Now, according to World Boxing News, veteran Ortiz, 42, is the more likely option for Ruiz Jr.
It is reported that ‘if Wilder comes back he’d undoubtedly be first choice’ – but Ortiz is now a viable option.
The Cuban has won his last two fights by knockout after being stopped himself by Wilder in November 2019.
Last time out he KO’d former IBF champion Charles Martin in the sixth round, after being floored himself in rounds one and four.
But Ruiz Jr, who secured a points win against Chris Arreola last time out, will have some work to do before getting back in the ring.

World Boxing News adds that he ‘isn’t in fighting shape’ and ‘isn’t in a progressive training camp’ with mentor Eddy Reynoso.
Both Ruiz Jr, 32, and Ortiz are looking to get back in the mix for world titles.
But seemingly their respective paths will be determined by Wilder’s big decision, with boxing manager Al Haymon waiting in the wings to pitch his next big fight.

BOXING is set to return to free-to-air TV with a series of fights in a deal between Wasserman Boxing and Channel Five.Wasserman Boxing promote British middleweight star Chris Eubank Jr as well as his cousin Harlem, who boasts a 12-0 record.

Wasserman, following a takeover of European promoter Team Sauerland, also represent welterweight contender Josh Kelly, heavyweight hope Nathan Gorman and undefeated middleweight Linus Udofia.
Both parties are delighted to announce the deal which is set to widen boxing’s television audience.
Wasserman Head of Global Boxing, Kalle Sauerland said: “This is a major move that is going to revolutionise free-to-air boxing in the UK.
“We all know the brilliant numbers that Channel 5 does with boxing and we feel with these great partners we can take this to a whole new level!
“We are going to deliver premium events featuring breath-taking productions, filled arenas and incredible matchups. Also expect a surprise or two in the build-up. We can’t wait to get started!”
The deal includes five fight nights set to take place in 2022 – all will be available to watch on Channel Five or on streaming platform My5.

UK boxing is on the rise with Khan vs Brook earning 500,000 pay per view buys late last month, despite claims the pair had left the fight too late.
Fury vs Whyte is also set to take place in front of a packed-out Wembley on April 23, with the attendance possibly set to be increased to a record 100,000.
Eubank Jr called out Kell Brook to be his next opponent but it seems a fight is unlikely to take place until the pair can agree on a weight they are both happy with. More

In his last fight Fury weighed the heaviest of his career against Deontay Wilder, coming in at 19st11lbs, and it allowed him to knock out the American in the 11th round.
Fury is aiming to do the same to Whyte in the all-England clash on St. George’s Day.
He said: “I will try to come in at my heaviest weight of all time.
“For my biggest fight, in front of my biggest audience I will try to be a man mountain.
“I will be heavier than 19st 10lbs.
“My personal message to Dillian is ‘I will win this fight for England and St George, on St George’s Day’.”

Fury also suggested his bout with Whyte will be his last before he retires so he likely wants to go out with a bang.
In the eventful press conference, Fury gave his absent challenger the nickname of ‘Frillian Whyte Knickers’, and later posted a photoshopped photo of Whyte to go with his new name.

And one man sure to be keeping a close eye on developments is former unified heavyweight world champion Joshua.
Speaking ahead of Lawrence Okolie’s cruiserweight showdown against Michal Cieslak at the O2 Arena on Sunday night, Joshua revealed who has his backing in the Fury vs Whyte battle of Britain.
AJ also hinted he is keen to come to blows with Whyte again after the pair first fought as pro’s back in 2015.
He told iFL TV: “It’s a good opponent [for Fury], it’s a good [title] defence against Dillian Whyte.
“Dillian Whyte needs to come in, look at what Tyson Fury does and reacts to, and do the complete opposite. Maybe work the body, and be conditioned to go the distance. 
“But I hope Dillian trains hard [and] doesn’t underestimate Tyson. Because it’s his first shot for Dillian, I think he’ll be hungry, do you know what I mean?

“This ain’t like his tenth time fighting for a title, you can have a little hiccup along the way. This is his first time fighting for the title.

AJ and the ‘Brixton Bodysnatcher’ met in the ring for the British title over six years ago, with Joshua winning via a seventh-round TKO.
Plans were also in place for Joshua and Fury to fight in a mouthwatering undisputed clash last year, before a court of arbitration ordered the latter into a trilogy battle with Deontay Wilder.

Joshua is currently gearing up for a rematch with Oleksandr Usyk, but Russia’s invasion of Usyk’s home country, Ukraine, may cause uncertainties regarding that bout.
When asked whether he was concerned for Usyk, AJ seemingly referenced Usyk and his countrymen, and former heavyweights, Vitaly and Wladimir Klitschko.
AJ said: “I’ve learnt [that] sport and politics go hand in hand, and they’re powerful voices, and it’s good that they’re speaking up.
“They’re not pushing for war, they’re saying ‘let’s find peace’.

But unbeaten Fury is demanding there to be no officiating from his compatriots following Josh Taylor’s controversial win over Jack Catterall.
Catterall outclassed the Scottish southpaw on Saturday in Glasgow, but was cruelly robbed of becoming the new undisputed super-lightweight world champion.
Fans instantly took to social media to express their anger at the scoring, as they labelled it as ‘one of boxing’s worst ever decisions’.
The result led to the British Boxing Board of Control to investigate the outcome, with the ringside judges to be asked to explain their cards.
Fury’s promoter Frank Warren then stated that if he had it his way, no British judges would score the upcoming heavyweight title fight.
And Fury then told talkSPORT: “I’ve seen an article recently where Frank Warren said there would be no British judges for this fight and I reiterate that as well.

The first presser for the mouthwatering scrap took place at the national stadium today – but with one notable exception.
Whyte, 33, has chosen not break from his gruelling Portugal training camp to be at today’s event.
And his lawyer has claimed his big-fight silence is in response to his treatment from rival promoter Warren, who won the £30million purse bid and right to hold the fight.
But Warren has slammed the Brixton brawler’s actions, describing his behaviour as ‘madness’.
Warren said: “I don’t want to bore everybody, the WBC made the fight, we went to purse bids and won.
“We fulfilled criteria, which we did, he signed a contract last minute and now he is trying to renegotiate, we had a period to agree terms.

The Gypsy King is a huge favourite to retain his title as well as his undefeated record as a professional.
But Iron Mike believes Whyte has a puncher’s chance of upsetting the odds and winning his first ever world title.
Speaking on the Club Shay Shay YouTube channel when asked how to beat Fury, the 55-year-old explained: “That would be tough, but there were guys that dropped him that were lighter than me.
Then, referencing Steve Cunningham, Tyson continued: “Who was the gentleman that dropped him? The former cruiserweight champ?

“He [Whyte] can’t give him no room to punch, he has to go all out for 12 rounds.
“He can’t give him no time by moving around, can’t allow him to think. He allows Tyson Fury to think a lot, he gives him a lot of time.”
Whyte will earn around £6million for his participation, with Fury set to bank a much meatier £23.5m.
But if the Brixton banger manages to spring a huge shock and beat Fury, he will pocket an extra £3m.
