Anthony Joshua reveals he wants Idris Elba or Denzel Washington to play him in biopic of his life ahead of Usyk fight

ANTHONY JOSHUA named Idris Elba and Denzel Washington as the two movies stars he would pick to play him in a biopic. Will Smith famously played the great Muhammad Ali in the 2001 blockbuster.

And in 1999, Washington starred as Rubin ‘Hurricane’ Carter, the boxer who was accused of murder and convicted to three life terms.
AJ was clearly impressed and revealed he would love to have the American play him.
He said: “I would love Denzel Washington to play me in a movie of my life.”
But remembering the accent may be a barrier, Joshua quickly picked fight-fan Elba as an alternative.

He added: “Well actually sorry he is American, so it would have to be Idris Elba.”
Elba was in London last September the night Joshua was beaten by Oleksandr Usyk.
Now AJ prepares for a revenge mission fit for Hollywood in a rematch with Usyk in Saudi Arabia on Saturday.
Joshua is still haunted by the box-and-move tactics he deployed the first time around as he prepares for all out war.

He told Sky Sports: “I wanted to outbox my opponent, whether it was Usyk or anyone else, that was the mindset.
“I wanted to outbox my opponent and on Saturday I want to smash my opponent. That’s just the mindset now.”
He added: “I was amateur for three and a half years and I did a lot in that time and I asked myself how?
“It wasn’t down to the skill element, because I was outclassed in terms of skill and experience by a lot of my competitors on the world scene, but that aggression.
“That will was something that couldn’t be denied. Then as you get more experience you try to develop as a rounded athlete.
“But ultimately, you can’t take your eye off the factor of what got you to where you are which is, as you said, that aggressiveness.”

Tyson Fury ‘trying to stay relevant’ and is NOT retired amid talk of facing winner of Joshua v Usyk, says AJ promoter

TYSON FURY has been accused of “trying to stay relevant” after backtracking on his boxing comeback. The Gypsy King announced he was returning for an unlikely trilogy bout with Derek Chisora, despite his 2011 and 2014 wins.

But then just two days later, on his 34th birthday, Fury said he was retiring for good.
It all came as the build up for Anthony Joshua’s rematch with Oleksandr Usyk on Saturday in Saudi Arabia intensified.
And Frank Smith, CEO of Matchroom Boxing who promote AJ, cast doubt over Fury’s retirement claim.
Smith told The Mirror: “It is not the first time he has retired but we will see.

“I think he just wants to stay relevant. Ultimately he is just trying to stay relevant.
“One thing I would say is that he is the WBC champion, if he actually has retired he should have to vacate his belt.
“I don’t think he should be rushing because he has his time that he doesn’t have to fight mandatories.
“But if he is retired the belt is something that the WBC need to look at it.

“But how many times has this bloke retired and come back. He will probably be fighting Thor Bjornsson next week.”
Fury first retired in April after knocking out Dillian Whyte, 34, at Wembley Stadium.
But he has been linked with returning to challenge the winner between Usyk, 35, and Joshua, 32.
Despite that, Fury instead called out Chisora, 38, and former world’s strongest man Bjornsson, 34, who has had four boxing exhibitions.
The heavyweight star is still yet to vacate his WBC belt and has until August 26 to confirm in writing whether he plans to fight again.
If he does, a first ever four-belt heavyweight undisputed bout awaits, something Fury’s US promoter Bob Arum is ready to negotiate.
Arum said to Sky Sports: “It’s really the only fight that makes sense for Tyson Fury.
“I’ve discussed this with my co-promoter of Fury, Frank Warren, and once this fight is over we’re going to put together a total unification match between the winner and Tyson Fury.

“Now, if Usyk wins the fight, which I expect, that will be quite easy to do because we’re very close to the Usyk people as they’re the same people who manage Vasiliy Lomachenko who fights for us.
“If Joshua wins, Eddie Hearn is his promoter. We’ve talked many times with Hearn about various matches and I’m sure we’ll be able to come together on this one.”

Anthony Joshua taking £13million PAY-CUT as he bids to regain belts from Oleksandr Usyk in second Saudi revenge mission

ANTHONY JOSHUA is banking a basic £33.2million for tomorrow’s Saudi-funded showdown with Oleksandr Usyk — a pay cut of £13m!The Watford man trousered £46m when he regained his world heavyweight titles from Andy Ruiz Jr in Riyadh three years ago.

But now AJ, beaten by Usyk 11 months ago, has been forced to take a lesser amount as he tries to get the WBA, IBF and WBO belts back from the Ukrainian warrior.
Usyk will bag the same £33.2m pay packet as the challenger when the pair clash in Jeddah.
And the victor is in line for a bonus based on the pay-per-view buys on Sky Sports in the UK and on DAZN around the world.
The Saudis paid almost £83m for total rights to the fight and the fighters will split 80 per cent of that.

The remaining £16.6m has been spent on the undercard and other expenses.
The crazy cash on the palace tables in Saudi Arabia means most major fights featuring European boxers will now end up getting flogged to the Middle East.
A staggering 94,000 fans packed Wembley to the rafters when WBC ruler Tyson Fury beat Dillian Whyte on St George’s Day, April 23.
But even if AJ wins tomorrow, there seems little chance of an all-English fight for the undisputed heavyweight crown on home soil.

Essex promoter Eddie Hearn is already in talks to keep the belts in Arabia by luring Fury over.
Hearn said: “This is our second big event in Saudi Arabia and we want to bring more big events here.
“Other promoters have spoken about coming here but we’re the only one to do it.

Whole boxing world knows Joshua can’t outbox Usyk… but he’ll be aggressive and UNSTOPPABLE in rematch, warns new coach

ANTHONY JOSHUA’S new trainer is the first to admit his man’s preparation has been far from perfect.No-nonsense Robert Garcia replaced Team GB mastermind Robert McCracken for AJ’s must-win world heavyweight title rematch against Oleksandr Usyk tomorrow night.

The training block has not been perfect but AJ is said to be in ‘peak’ conditionCredit: Getty
American Garcia, a former super-featherweight world champion, has been in the corner for 14 fighters landing their own world titles.
And now he is leading Joshua’s Jeddah mission to regain the WBA, IBF and WBO straps he lost to Usyk.
One of the most positive signs is Garcia’s honest verdict that the Loughborough training camp was not always plain sailing.
Garcia, 47, said of AJ: “He enjoyed the camp, we can’t say everything went perfect because some days weren’t but that is supposed to happen in a training camp.

“We have peaked at the right moment and this is the happiest he has been, so that is the perfect sign.
“There’s never a perfect training camp where every day is good. There were a few days where we had to work on stuff but he listened and corrected things and now he has to go and do it in the ring.”
Strangely, Joshua, 32, has refused to publicly name Garcia as his head coach, with unproven Spaniard Angel Fernandez also in his corner.
The Watford man said: “You have to ask them. We don’t really talk about having a head coach because there is no ego in our team. We are just here to do a job.”

Hopefully, one of the coaches had an input in AJ’s supposed 13-strong list of leftie sparring partners.
A member of Usyk’s squad told SunSport the beasts the champ has been facing in training are a different league to the group Joshua’s team brought in to mimic the Ukrainian southpaw.
And there was a glaring absence of recognisable names on the list of amateurs AJ thanked for imitating Usyk’s maverick movement on Wednesday.
Joshua admitted the decision to try to outbox Usyk in their first showdown at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium 11 months ago was all his own call.
The Ukrainian genius, an Olympic champ and winner of 335 of 350 amateur fights, outclassed the Englishman as he romped to a points win.
The whole boxing world knows Anthony can’t outbox UsykRobert Garcia
Thankfully Garcia has had Usyk in his California gym. And he knows the only way to end the Cossack warrior’s perfect record of 19 wins as a pro is to knock him out for the first time.
Garcia said: “The whole boxing world knows he can’t outbox Usyk. So we have to put smart pressure on him.
“Usyk is a very talented fighter, his combinations, he has a great jab, a great straight-right hand, right hands to the body, stuff like that.
“Instead of training to box, we have to train for a fight going forward. But we are also not going in to become a brawler, we have to do it smart.”
Critics suggest Joshua is nothing like the studious sponge he claims to be.
Garcia insists his man is no idiot though — and says if AJ gets the mix of brain and brawn right, then even Usyk will fall.
The American said of Joshua: “People underestimate how smart he is.

“But once you have been with him for a few months you see how smart, dedicated and talented he is.
“When you add a little bit more to that, make him mentally and physically ready to do damage, he’s unstoppable.”

How much is Usyk getting for Joshua rematch?
Joshua and Usyk reportedly completed the biggest ever site deal, with Saudi Arabia agreeing to pay £65m to stage the fight.
That outstripped the £50m the Saudis paid for Joshua’s rematch with Andy Ruiz Jr in 2019.
However, AJ is not set to earn as much as he did from the Ruiz bout because the purse is being split 50/50 with Usyk.

Joshua’s first fight with Ruiz was a voluntary defence, and therefore his team were able to insert a mandatory rematch clause giving him the bulk of the prize money even after he lost the first fight in Vegas.
Usyk was a mandatory challenger however, and agreed to insert a rematch clause only if the second purse was evenly split.

ANTHONY JOSHUA has warned he is going to “smash” Oleksandr Usyk in their blockbuster rematch. The pair fought for the WBO, IBF and WBA titles last September, with Usyk’s aggressive style throwing AJ off course and allowing the Ukrainian to claim a points victory against the odds.

Ukrainian Usyk, who left the front line of his country’s defence following Russia’s invasion to fight AJ, has bulked up massively compared to the last time the pair fought.
However, this approach is the wrong one to take for him according to Dave Coldwell, who believes the added weight will slow him down.
Coldwell thinks Uysk’s greatest weapons are his speed and mobility, but by bulking up he will be limiting their effectiveness. More
