Anthony Joshua to fight on December 17 at Wembley Arena against ‘a quality opponent’ after Tyson Fury fight collapse

ANTHONY JOSHUA will face a “a quality opponent” on December 17 at Wembley Arena after his fight with Tyson Fury collapsed.AJ’s Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn officially declared that the star’s proposed Battle of Britain on December 3 with the WBC champ was OFF after a breakdown in negotiations.

Fury initially wanted to unify the belts against Oleksandr Usyk, 35, who twice beat Joshua, but the Ukrainian hero ruled himself out until next year in order to rest and recover having returned home to his loved ones for the first time.
That led to the Gypsy King surprisingly calling out AJ and offering him a 60/40 financial split in his favour.
Contracts were being exchanged by promoters, all while the Fury grew increasingly frustrated.
He originally set a deadline on 5pm on Monday, September 26 but then extended it by a couple of days.

Hearn claimed he returned a final revised contract last week but had not heard from Frank Warren’s son George and has now declared the fight dead but remains open to reviving talks.
However, although he did not reveal who the two-time heavyweight champion’s opponent would be, Hearn has now revealed that AJ plans to be back in action against a top 20 contender before Christmas.
His revelation came while discussing the Fury issues with iFL TV, where he said: “Ultimately, the fight couldn’t get made now. Can it get made? Yes, 100 percent.
“We were told categorically by Mr. Fury that the fight was dead, and there was no way he was taking the fight.

“From AJ’s point of view, I don’t think he wants to engage with him, and we were told that twice. One was the final, final time.
“We’ll look at dates and venues. December 17th is a date that we like.
“The venue option isn’t great for December 17th. Wembley Arena is a great arena, but in terms of size, I think it holds 10,000, 11,000. But AK wants to get out. He’s been training hard.
“December 3rd was never an ideal date, and someone started playing that back to me like me saying that last night. ‘Look, see, it was never an ideal date.’ I’ve said that a million times.
“We wanted December 17th. They [Team Fury] told us, ‘no. The only way you’re going to get the fight is December 3rd,’ and AJ said, ‘I’m willing to fight on that date.’
“It gives him a little more time because he’s still coming off a defeat over 12 rounds against the pound-for-pound #1 [Usyk]. So, he’ll continue, and we’ll keep playing.”
Fighting at an arena is something of a step down for AJ who has become accustomed to fighting in stadiums when fighting on British soil.
Hearn added: “He [Joshua] accepted it was done with last Monday when Tyson Fury came out publicly and abused him and said, ‘The fights off.’ Then when he did it again on Thursday and said, ‘The fights off, get to the back of the queue with all the others, you big dosser.’

“How many times have you got to say it before the other bloke to say, ‘Do you know what? Leave it.’
“But then it’s like, they never came calling back after he said that. No, he didn’t. It’s alright because, as John said, we cost AJ £110m.” More

‘I know that’s crazy’ – Deontay Wilder says Anthony Joshua would BEAT Tyson Fury as all-Brit December fight axed

Joshua needs to sort some things ‘mentally’ and then he can beat Fury, says WilderCredit: Getty
However, a deal could not be agreed and matchroom chief Eddie Hearn announced that the dream match-up was OFF.
Hearn insists the matter is “still open for discussions” but suggested the fight is “off” as it stands.
Should a fight between the two Brits ever take place, former WBC champ Wilder, who fought Fury in a trilogy, has backed Joshua to come out on top.
Wilder says Joshua needs to change some things “mentally” and he could “redeem himself more than ever” following back-to-back title losses to Oleksandr Usyk.

The American said to Dan Rafael’s Fight Freaks Unite: “I can see Anthony Joshua beating Tyson Fury.
“I know that’s crazy – some people would think so.

Wilder is set to make a return to the boxing ring this month against Robert Helenius.
The 42-2-1 hard hitter hasn’t fought in a year since his trilogy loss to Fury in Las Vegas.
He has ambitions of fighting the top three heavyweights before retiring.
Wilder wants to take on Fury in a fourth fight – despite losing twice and drawing once already.
And he would like a slice of AJ as well as WBA, IBF, WBO and IBO champ Usyk.
Wilder claimed a fourth fight with Fury is ‘”inevitable” and a showdown with Joshua “will get done when it’s time”.

A meeting with Usyk has already being called for by the Ukrainian.

MIKE TYSON has once again shown that he has lost none of his ferocity or speed at the age of 56.The icon – who was recently spotted in a wheelchair – doesn’t need to worry about a ring return after earning a whopping £500k-a-month from his cannabis empire.

Iron Mike has shared another clip of him looking vicious between the ropesCredit: Instagram @miketyson
The heavyweight legend made a stunning return in November 2020, more than 15 years after he announced his retirement from boxing.
Tyson drew in an eight-round exhibition with fellow American great Roy Jones Jr, 53, on a Triller pay-per-view which sold a reported 1.6million packages.
It then emerged in late 2021 that Tyson was in advanced negotiations for a mega money fight with YouTuber Logan Paul.
However, those negotiations broke down and nothing has been reported since now regarding the icon stepping back in the ring.

But he has teased his fanbase about another comeback several times by sharing images and footage of him in training.
Now the superstar has done it again by posting more footage of him back in the ring on his Instagram page.
And despite his advancing years, fans were left stunned at the pace in which he bobbed and weaved in the clip and at the speed of his vicious punches.
Tyson himself seemed pretty proud of his efforts, captioning the video with: “Roll with the punches.”

Following the commercial success of his comeback, he admitted boxing became more of a burden again.
However, now it seems that he could be hinting at another return.
But the former boxer has also suffered with health issues in recent months but looked fighting fit as he went out for dinner in New York recently.
Iron Mike has revealed he is suffering from sciatica and a flare-up of the condition causes pain that can leave him needing a wheelchair to get around. More

Farce as 7ft boxing champ Valuev can’t find Russian army uniform that fits for Ukraine war as he needs size 16.5 boots

VLADIMIR Putin’s shoestring army is struggling to find a uniform big enough after calling up ex-boxer Nikolai Valuev to fight in Ukraine. The retired giant, 49 – the tallest and heaviest world champion in boxing history – stands at 7ft and wears size 16.5 boots.

Now army quartermasters have the task of trying to find some kit for the man mountain – now a pro-Putin MP.
A Russian TV report on his call-up said: “They’ll have to try hard to find a uniform which fits MP Nikolai Valuev, who’s also received his call-up papers.
“The former boxing world champion is 2m 13cm (7ft) tall. His feet are size 52 (UK size 16.5).”
Jokers online suggested the army should also order an oversized bodybag if he is sent to the “meat grinder” conflict.

One said: “He’s a big target!”
At his peak, he weighed 149kg, or almost 23 and a half stone.
In 2010, Valuev’s doctor said he was treating him for “serious bone and joint problems”
He was forced to undergo two operations that required six months on the sidelines and confirmed in 2013 that medical advice was the main reason he wouldn’t return to the ring.

But that hasn’t stopped Putin’s army from calling him up for the disastrous war in Ukraine.
In an interview with Russian state media last week, he said he had been handed his summons when he was in the Donbas in eastern Ukraine.
Unlike his other parliamentary colleagues, he has been told to go to the military registration and enlistment office.
“In my opinion, everyone has received a summons, I also received a summons,” he told Russian language publication Izvestia. “Will I go? Of course, I will go to the enlistment office now.”
Speaking of his fellow MPs, he said: “My colleagues are good, they were registered for military service in the State Duma and received summons here, but I have to go home.
“I received the summons right before my trip to Donbas, and I was not at home.”
He added: “Next week I will definitely go and report to the enlistment office.”
Valuev competed in the heavyweight category during his 16-year career between 1993 and 2009.
He was World Boxing Association champion between 2005 and 2007, and again in 2009 before his points defeat to 6ft 3in Brit David Haye in the so-called “David Vs Goliath” fight.

After retiring, he went into politics and joined the Russian Duma parliament in 2011 as a member of the Putin-backing United Russia party.
Such was his gargantuan size, a special chair had to be made for him to sit in.
He has also dedicated the past decade to trying to prove the existence of the Russian “Bigfoot”, the Daily Star reports.
Such was his obsession, that he even appeared on the 2013 Channel 4 series “Bigfoot Files” trekking through the Siberian wilderness.
In 2011, he went on a separate mission to try and track down Bigfoot, as reported by an official Russian government press release.
“Valuev did not manage to meet the yeti itself but on the way, he discovered ‘traces’ such as broken tree branches,” it read.
“By the time they reached the cave, the expedition saw gigantic footprints, similar to a human’s.”
It comes after ex-Everton and Russian footballer Diniyar Bilyaletdinov was called up to fight in Ukraine.
The 37-year-old midfielder, who made 59 appearances for the Toffees between 2009 and 2012, last served in the military almost two decades ago.
His dad Rinat confirmed that he had been called up, despite being two years over the official cut-off age for new recruits of 35.
“Diniyar really received a summons,” he told Russian publication sports.ru.
“It is difficult to talk about emotions, because he did not serve, although he did military service, but it was specific, with a sports bias. It was 19 years ago.
“That is, yes, he took the oath, but served in the sports line.
“The law still says – to call people up to 35 years old, and he is 37, so there is some kind of inconsistency here.
“Now he will find out whether this agenda is correct or whether it was sent early. Anything can happen.”
The news follows revelations that staff from Russia’s national football team have refused to turn home from a friendly match in neighbouring Kyrgyzstan.
Hundreds of thousands of young men have tried to flee from Putin’s mobilisation of 300,000 reservists.
Anyone who has done compulsory military service could be drafted.

The Matchroom promoter insists the matter is “still open for discussions” but suggested the fight is “off” as it stands.
In a direct response, Big John said: “This is a video to Eddie Hearn… Mr Brains of Britain, let me explain it to you my friend, how you cost your man over a hundred million.
“Fifteen million step aside money, free money. Then Tyson would have gone and done what AJ couldn’t do, is gone and beat Usyk and bring all the belts back to the UK.
“In the meantime, AJ could have had a couple of easy victories, thirty mil, then he could have challenged Tyson for the belt, well who knows what numbers that would have done?

“He could have challenged him after some easy victories, free money I might as well say.

🥊 When will Tyson Fury vs Anthony Joshua take place? All you need to know on blockbuster bout
On exactly why the fight has failed to materialise, Hearn told Matchroom Boxing: “They gave us terms ultimately in a date they thought we wouldn’t accept. We did accept that.
“We were ready to go. If they would have signed the contract on Monday, they had a fight.
“We were asked to agree the deal by Monday, then we were asked to agree it by Wednesday. We got their comments back on Wednesday.
“We were never gonna sign the fight, and we were told the fight is off.
“So, it’s still there. It’s still open for discussions. But we’re not gonna play a game with a bloke that’s just coming out telling AJ it’s off and then he’s a dosser and he’s gotta sign it etc.
“Have your fight if you wanna fight someone else and we’ll do our thing, and we’ll see what happens.”
