Deontay Wilder, 36, reveals he will only fight for ‘three more years’ as heavyweight star eyes retirement by 40

DEONTAY WILDER only wants to fight for another “three more years” – eyeing retirement by the age of 40. The former WBC champion returns next Saturday against ex-sparring partner Robert Helenius, 38, in New York.
Deontay Wilder plans to retire at 40
Wilder, 36, has vowed to start a run back to the heavyweight title, but gave himself a strict time limit to do so.
He said: “I only wanna put in three more years.
“By the end of 40, we don’t have to be guessing about Deontay Wilder. We don’t have to assume.
“You hear it from the horse’s mouth now because, you know, a lot of media, they rather be first than being correct, especially when it pertains to me, you know?

“But you hear it right here from me. You know, I only wanna give it three more years, about till the end of 40, [before] turning 41.
“And then I wanna be done with it.”
Wilder, who held the WBC title from 2015-2020, lost the belt to Tyson Fury, 34, after their 2018 draw.
And his career was left in doubt following a brutal round 11 knockout in the epic trilogy bout in October 2021.

But Wilder was convinced to make a boxing comeback after a statue of himself in his home of Alabama was put up.
It promises another few more years of the Bronze Bomber, before he hangs the gloves up to focus on ventures outside the ring.
Wilder said: “I wanna pursue other things that I have set for myself, and I wanna enjoy the rest of my life with my children, and build, build, build [on] this generational wealth.”

‘He wanted to kill’ – Tyson Fury’s promoter Bob Arum accuses Eddie Hearn of ‘sabotaging’ Anthony Joshua fight talks

TYSON FURY’s promoter, Bob Arum, has accused Eddie Hearn of sabotaging a WBC heavyweight title fight with Anthony Joshua.A fight between the two Brits was the talk of the town last month with the pair seemingly agreeing to fight in December.

Arum says Hearn (left) ‘sabotaged’ the Battle of BritainCredit: PA
Heavyweight king Fury threw AJ a shock championship lifeline after his back-to-back title losses to Oleksandr Usyk.
However, a contract was not signed by the original September 26 deadline and the Gypsy King is talking up fights with other heavyweights.
Fury’s promoter, Arum, says the fight wasn’t made as Matchroom chief Hearn, who represents Joshua, “wanted to kill” it.
Arum says Hearn “sabotaged” the Battle of Britain.

The American told Sky Sports: “He wanted to kill it because even as late as yesterday [Monday], if he’d have said let’s all get together and sit in a room and get everything finalised, it could have been done in a couple of hours.”
Arum added: “I mean, really sad because I really believed both fighters wanted this fight to happen.
“The first issue was well there’s different networks involved.
“So, there was a meeting held and, lo and behold, all the networks signed off and they found a way to do it.

“Now, Mr Hearn got involved and he didn’t want the fight to happen from the get-go, so he slow-played it.
“I’ve been in this business almost 60 years so I can tell when somebody doesn’t want something to happen and then slow-plays a negotiation.
“Here, once the percentages were decided, there were no real issues.
“You could sit in a room for three hours and get everything finalised, but Hearn refused to do it.
“I think that was terrible on his part because I know Frank Warren and George, partners from Queensberry, were prepared to meet personally with Eddie and get everything worked out.
“I mean there were no issues, for a fight not to happen where there are no issues because one promoter doesn’t want it to happen and is in a stalling position is to my mind reprehensible.”
    Hearn ‘still open’ to talk
However, Hearn says the matter is “still open for discussions”.
Hearn told Matchroom Boxing: “They gave us terms ultimately in a date they thought we wouldn’t accept. We did accept that.
“We were ready to go. If they would have signed the contract on Monday, they had a fight.
“We were asked to agree the deal by Monday, then we were asked to agree it by Wednesday. We got their comments back on Wednesday.
“We were never gonna sign the fight, and we were told the fight is off.
“So, it’s still there. It’s still open for discussions. But we’re not gonna play a game with a bloke that’s just coming out telling AJ it’s off and then he’s a dosser and he’s gotta sign it etc.
“Have your fight if you wanna fight someone else and we’ll do our thing, and we’ll see what happens.”
Fury could instead have a trilogy fight with Derek Chisora.
The WBC champion, 34, has already sent Chisora, 37, a deal to complete their unlikely trilogy series.
Hearn told Matchroom Boxing: “At the weekend, or Friday, Derek Chisora received a contract for the Tyson Fury fight.

“So have other fighters, so in our mind he’s not fighting Anthony Joshua.
“We’re more than happy to continue those conversations, but from what we’ve been told, the deadline has passed.” More

And he’s coming into the Barclays Center clash leaner, having shedded weight during his time away from boxing.
Wilder weighed in at 238lbs for his last fight against Fury.
But the Alabama-born hard hitter says he’ll come in at somewhere in the 220s for Helenius.
Wilder said during his virtual press conference: “Somewhere in the 220s, somewhere around there.

“The weight isn’t what we’re going to worry about in this fight or in fights in the future.

“I was interested in seeing my body frame at a certain weight as well.
“At this moment in time, I’m going back to what I’m used to and most comfortable to me and what’s comfortable to my body frame, and that’s going to be around the 220s or maybe under.”

Wilder says he felt “a little heavy” against Fury.
He added: “Yeah, I felt a little sluggish, a little heavy.
“You have to understand that I’ve never been 240 ever in my life before, but it was an experiment that I wanted to try.
“We did what we had to do to get the weight put on there, and that’s an experience in the history books for me.
“The only way to become wise is to apply knowledge to life, and we gained a lot of knowledge from that, and now we know what to do moving forward.”
Should Wilder get past Helenius, he has ambitions of fighting the top three heavyweights before retiring.
Wilder wants to take on Fury in a fourth fight – despite losing twice and drawing once already.
And he would like a slice of AJ as well as WBA, IBF, WBO and IBO champ Usyk.
Wilder claimed a fourth fight with Fury is ‘”inevitable” and a showdown with Joshua “will get done when it’s time”.

A meeting with Usyk has already being called for by the Ukrainian.
Once his return is complete, Wilder will then retire to focus on making music. More

Oleksandr Usyk will only fight Tyson Fury when he runs out of TOILET PAPER, says Gypsy King’s dad John in bizarre rant

OLEKSANDR USYK will only take on Tyson Fury when he runs out of TOILET PAPER, the Gypsy King’s father John has claimed in a strange rant.WBC champion Fury, 34, looked to be on a collision course with Usyk after the Ukrainian beat Anthony Joshua for a second time to retain his IBF, WBA and WBO belts back in August.

But reports then emerged that Usyk, 35, was not ready to take on the undefeated Brit until 2023, so Fury has sought alternative fights for the end of the year.
He was heavily linked with a blockbuster bout against Anthony Joshua, but that has collapsed over the past week.
Now Fury is expected to face Mahmoud Charr at the Principality Stadium on December 3.
And his father John, 58, bizarrely believes a clash between his son and Usyk will not happen until the former undisputed cruiserweight champion no longer has any toilet roll.

Speaking to FreeBets.com, he said: “When Usyk runs out of toilet paper, we might be able to do something good.
“At the minute they’re terrified, aren’t they? They’ve not come off the toilet thinking about Tyson the Gypsy King because they know the result. They’re going to get beat.
“Tyson will fight Usyk in his front garden in the middle of Ukraine in front of the Ukrainian President. How’s that?
“No venues needed, he’ll fight him anywhere on the planet, preferably his back garden or his kitchen or his lounge.

“That’s where we’re at with Usyk. Tyson’s not bothered about him at all. That’s what we’re in the game to do. If we have to get to that blown-up middleweight, the Ukrainian, we will do.”
John continued: “We will chase those belts down. Tyson will chase them down and beat them unmercifully. He’ll tan them up like they’ve never been tanned before in their life, and they know this.
“Usyk is on about fighting Canelo to avoid a Tyson Fury clash.
“What Usyk wants to do is make as much money out of the titles that he can before he has to meet the Gypsy King. He knows the belts are gone.”
Meanwhile, Usyk recently insisted he remains keen to make the Fury fight next year.
He told Parimatch: “I don’t know anything about what Tyson Fury is doing or thinking. We’re in negotiations talking about a match and we’re doing our best to make this bout happen.

“Of course, I really want to have this fight next year. But if Tyson Fury is not interested in a match next year, then it’s not possible to fight against him.

The 34-year-old Brit posted a story on his personal Instagram page that saw him getting two q-tips up his nostrils before the aesthetician pulled them with force.
Fury has endured tremendous pain throughout his career, who could even forget the way he immediately got back up to his feet after a knockout punch by Deontay Wilder back in 2018?

AJ’s promoter Eddie Hearn claimed he returned a final revised contract last week but had not heard from Fury’s camp and has now declared the fight dead.
Hearn remains open to reviving talks, while Fury’s US promoter Bob Arum claimed Joshua’s rep is “stalling everything, because he doesn’t want the fight to happen”.

I survived an assassination attempt after being shot, I’m not afraid of Tyson Fury and will KO him, says Mahmoud Charr

MIRACLEMAN Mahmoud Charr refuses to be intimidated by Tyson Fury – having overcome far more devastating fights in his life. The Germany-based, Lebanon-born Syrian is in talks to face Fury in December, after negotiations with Anthony Joshua broke down.

Charr at one point was considered the forgotten man of the heavyweight division, despite remarkably escaping death.
The 37-year-old survived an assassination attempt in 2015 and amazingly returned to the ring nine months later.
So he finds it fitting comeback king Fury – who beat depression to win back the world title – wants to fight him.
Charr told SunSport: “Fury, the Gypsy King, and me, the Arab King, have one thing in common: we both never give up.

“Fury had severe depression, wanted to take his own life. My life was almost taken. I survived a shot in the stomach.
“I decided to have two hip operations in one evening. After that, I became a world champion.
“Fury and I are ambassadors for never giving up, believing in yourself and fighting for your dreams. A person without a dream has no life.”
Even before Charr was shot four times in the stomach, he had to overcome hardship, fleeing from civil war that claimed his father’s life.

The boxer spent time in prison in his teenage years, before turning his life around with a career in the ring.
Charr said: “I survived a bullet in the Libyan civil war when I was four years old. I lost my father in that war.
“In Germany, I spent a total of three or four years in prison. I had a very hard life, had no money.
“I was always on the street, having to struggle, fight my way through life.
“Finally, it was martial arts that taught me discipline and made me a better person.
“Yes, I have experienced a lot. The abdominal shot I mentioned, the bilateral hip surgery.
“I am probably the only professional athlete who is still active with two artificial hip joints and plays so far above.”

Charr was 28–4 when his life was almost taken from him, following a cowardly assault from a Facebook troll.
The attacker had been provoking the fighter online, posing videos of his losses on social media.
But when Charr offered to face the man behind the screen in person, he was subject to a drive-by shooting in a kebab shop in Essen.
He miraculously survived and lived to see his shooter, Youssef Hassan, sentenced to five years in prison.
Charr had two tune-ups fights afterwards but later needed a double replacement, undergoing surgery in 2017 at the age of just 32.
The same year, he went on to win the WBA’s secondary world title and has won his last five bouts.
Charr’s biggest fight to date was a 2012 loss to Vitali Klitschko, but challenging for Fury’s WBC crown would top that.
And despite the British star’s unbeaten record and fine winning-form, Charr remains unnerved, after conquering much more outside the ring.
