Meet Jake Paul’s prodigy Ashton Sylve, boxing’s ‘next star’ who turned pro while at SCHOOL and now has 100 per cent KOs

BOXING prospect Ashton Sylve juggled the classroom with the school of hard knocks after turning professional at just 16. But after eight wins, all knockouts and two more years under his belt, the young American is emerging as one of the hottest prospects in the game.
    Ashton Sylve with Jake Paul
Ashton Sylve fights on Jake Paul’s undercard
So much so that he had Jake Paul and Floyd Mayweather battling it out to secure his signature after turning 18.
But it was Paul who got one over on unbeaten boxing icon Mayweather, signing Sylve to his Most Valuable Promotions.
And his journey continues over the weekend with a prime time co-headliner spot against Braulio Rodriguez, 34, of the Dominican Republic on the YouTuber-turned boxer’s fight with Anderson Silva.
Paul told SunSport: ”I’m excited, this is the first time he’s going to be on a big stage.

“The sky is the limit as he’s going to be the next star out of Most Valuable Promotions.”
If Paul is still learning on the job as a 5-0 novice, Sylve could feel like a young veteran, having had his first amateur bout at the age of eight.
He would go on to have over 120 contests in the unpaid ranks, becoming a 10x national champ, with two international honours to his name.
An Olympic dream could have also been realised – had the wait for the next Games not been so long.

Sylve said: “After all the experience I had fighting overseas at different tournaments, I started to feel that I was soon-to-be ready to turn pro.
“I would’ve stayed in the amateurs if the Olympics were sooner, but I think it was 2024 by the time I could qualify for the Olympics.
“But looking at my future, it was just too long to be waiting around in the amateurs, so that’s why I decided to turn pro at 16.”
Like many before him, Sylve took his talents to Mexico after turning pro at 16.
But it was not facing fully grown men which gave him his biggest fight, rather finding a happy medium between boxing and academics.
Sylve said: I was just still in school. That was the only thing I had to balance.
“I had to balance and figure out my schedule, the training time, losing weight was always a part of it and having another energy to also do my school work.
“That was the big difference but other than that, I actually prefer the professional side to the amateurs.”
Asthon Sylve had his first amateur bout at eight
He went on to have over 120 amateur bouts
After Sylve’s sixth fight, Paul and several others began to take notice of the promising super-featherweight.
He was due to feature on Paul’s undercard the night the social media sensation first beat ex-UFC champion Tyron Woodley, 40.
But when the event was moved to Ohio, Sylve, 17 at the time, was ruled out due to the commission’s age restrictions.
He said: “I had multiple offers, pretty much everyone was coming after me.
“We were still seeing what the best option was and who would be the best fit for me.
“I was supposed to fight on Jake’s undercard I think in Texas but then they switched the venue to Ohio, so with the regulation and my age it just didn’t pan out.
“So I wasn’t able to fight on his card but I think ever since then he had his eyes on me, even before that.”

The American wants to win titles in three weights
Sylve’s dad would later receive a call from Paul’s manager and adviser Nakisa Bidarian, and soon after a deal was struck between the two.
Paul said: “I had actually seen Ashton years ago, sparring. This kid H20 kept popping up on YouTube, even in my recommended he would pop up.
“So I’ve always known who he was, seen him hanging around mutual friends and once we started MVP, we want to help women and push them forward, which is why we signed Amanda Serrano.
“And then we wanted to help young prospects and he was the No1 young prospect that everyone was trying to sign.
“Mayweather tried to sign him, and he had already a built in social media following at 18-years-old, perfect record, all KOs.
“It just made sense to sign him.”

Sylve had his eyes on Wilfred Benitez’s record of youngest world champ of all time, which the Puerto Rican achieved at 17, but had moved on to other goals.
He said: “When I was 16 or 17, I wanted to be the youngest champion ever. But that didn’t pan out. By the time I looked it up, my birthday was pretty much past it.
“But I’ve always dreamed of being a three-weight world champion, so hopefully in the next year or two. I’ll be 19 or 20.”
For all of Sylve’s aspirations and plaudits from the loudest of mouths, none of it will mean anything unless he lets his fighting do the talking.
And he plans to continue doing so in the biggest fight of his career in Arizona, the kind of occasion he always envisioned.
Sylve said: “I’m grateful for the opportunity, this is kind of like a dream come true, something I always envisioned.

“In my ninth fight being a co-main event in a pay-per-view, I don’t think too many other people have done that.
“It’s something I think is incredible and it’s something I’ve always been reaching for.”

And following the news, Joshua posted his fresh look to his Instagram page.
His crisp look saw him wearing a navy jacket and trousers with a pair of white, blue and black shoes, along with a pair of black sunglasses.
His post – which received more than 30,000 likes in just over an hour – was captioned: “Casually casual.”
And in the image, he appeared to have trimmed down his physique somewhat since his championship fight against Oleksandr Usyk.

Joshua was handed back-to-back defeats for the first time in his pro career against Usyk, seeing him consequently lose his WBA, WBO and IBF titles for good.
Tyson Fury offered Joshua the chance for a blockbuster “Battle of Britain” fight on December 3, but they failed to agree terms and Fury has instead lined up a trilogy fight against Derek Chisora.
Fast forward to now and Joshua is in contention to fight 34-year-old Whyte in a repeat of their 2015 clash.
Promoter Eddie Hearn confirmed an ideal time of early next year for Joshua’s next fight, and said: “In terms of names, talking to him the other day, he wants to fight Dillian Whyte, really.

“Dillian Whyte fights on November 26 against (Jermaine) Franklin, who is talking a tremendous game, and we’ll see how that plays out.
“I think Dillian Whyte is the frontrunner if he comes through. Otto Wallin is a guy that has reached out numerous times. That’s a good fight for him as well.
“Then there’s the (Deontay) Wilder situation. I’m not saying that’s going to be the fight for January or February, but it’s definitely a fight that he’s looking at.
“The feeling for AJ is the value of – and by the way, none of them are easy fights – a tune-up is sometimes they’re as dangerous as each other.
“I don’t think he wants to start dropping out of the top 15 and top 10 of the governing bodies and just looking for an easy touch.

Tyson Fury hilariously slammed as ‘a big dosser’ by heavyweight rival Luis Ortiz for fighting Derek Chisora

TYSON FURY has been hilariously labelled a “big dosser” by heavyweight rival Luis Ortiz after agreeing a trilogy fight with Derek Chisora. The Gypsy King, 34, who already beat fellow Brit Chisora in 2011 and 2014, will meet him for a third time at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on December 3.

Promoter Frank Warren defended the match-making by insisting Chisora was the best available option for Fury.
The heavyweight champion’s team dismissed 43-year-old Ortiz because he was beaten by Andy Ruiz Jr in September.
But he has now called out Fury for ducking him, using the WBC champion’s favourite insult – “dosser” – to slam him.
Speaking to Boxing Scene, he said: “I think even less of the big dosser Fury.

“He claims to want to fight the best. He says Joshua didn’t want to fight him and that Usyk didn’t want to fight him.

“You just passed me over because you saw that I went 12 rounds and was only getting better in the late rounds. I was ready for 15 rounds but it’s OK.
“It just makes you look bad that you pass on me to fight Chisora who has 12 losses. This blows my mind.

“I would think Fury should feel embarrassed to move forward with this fight.
“If you want a real fight, I’m here you big dosser, so stop calling fighters out and then choose the easy pickings.”
Ortiz has a record of 33 wins and three defeats in his professional career.
His losses have come against Ruiz and Deontay Wilder on two occasions – the Bronze Bomber knocking him out on both occasions.

But the Love Islander disrupted his training to celebrate the mother of his other half – Molly-Mae Hague – getting hitched.
Doting dad John was sent up the wall by his son’s decision to attend the wedding, telling BT Sport last year: “We had a blow-up the other day.
“He went to his girlfriend’s mother’s wedding and I told him not to go, I said, ‘We’re in camp, if you’re going to do that I’m out of here!’
“I left for two days, it takes me two days to calm down because all these people don’t know nothing about the fight game.
“They’re reality TV people, they know nothing about where I’m coming from and it upsets me because you can only do one thing in the boxing world and that’s perfect what you train to do.
“They don’t call it training for nowt, you can’t go for a party and then come back, it ain’t rehearsal.

He last fought Daniel Bocianski at Wembley Stadium in April on Tyson’s undercard.

Jake Paul messaged UFC star Conor McGregor on Instagram urging him to ‘take the fight p***y’ after $50m offer

JAKE PAUL continued his relentless pursuit of a boxing match with Conor McGregor by direct messaging the UFC superstar on Instagram. The YouTuber revealed his eagerness to take on McGregor a few days after scoring a sensational second-round KO victory over Nate Robinson on the undercard of Mike Tyson’s exhibition bout with Roy Jones Jr last year.
Jake Paul slid into Conor McGregor’s direct messages on Instagram
Jake Paul launched a foul-mouthed tirade at Conor McGregor earlier this week
And in summer 2021, the 25-year-old doubled down on his desire to box McGregor in a foul-mouthed tirade on Instagram, in which he claimed his team have sent the UFC’s poster boy a whopping £37million ($50million) offer.
McGregor refrained from responding to the x-rated call-out, in which Paul made derogatory comments about the Irishman’s fiancee, Dee Devlin.
And in another attempt to get the former two-division UFC champion’s attention Paul – whose older brother Logan stepped in the ring with Floyd Mayweather – sent a short and sweet direct message to The Notorious on Instagram.
Paul’s message read: “Take the fight p***y.”

After sharing his DM to McGregor, Paul launched a blistering rant at UFC president Dana White, who revealed he was willing to let women’s bantamweight and featherweight queen Amanda Nunes fight the former Disney star.
He said: “Alright, Dana, let me try to understand your logic here: So you’re saying you don’t want me to fight Conor McGregor because he’s one of the greatest fighters in the world and I’m just like a YouTuber of whatever.
“But then, in a statement today, you say: ‘Oh, I’m thinking about just having Amanda Nunes knock him out.’ But she’s also one of the greatest.
“Dana, you seem to have this thing where you sort of hate on videogamers or YouTubers and influencers and us boxing and all this stuff.
“But then, you spend half your time hanging out with the Nelk Boys. And I know why. It’s because they have hella influence over the male audience and you know that’s gonna promote the UFC.
“And right now, baby, there’s nobody in this f***ing world who is promoting the UFC as much as me.
Tens of millions of views, number one search result on Google when you type in Conor McGregor, when you type in UFC, when you type in Dana White. So you’re not making sense here.
“Dana, I know the world doesn’t really know this because the UFC is this huge company. But we all know it’s not doing that well.
Jake Paul knocked out Nate Robinson on the undercard of Mike Tyson’s exhibition bout with Roy Jones JrCredit: AP:Associated Press
“Anyone who is involved in WME and all the public stocks and everything that went south there, we know the company is not doing well. And I’m the biggest money fight you can do unless Khabib comes out of retirement.
“So if you want the UFC to make the most amount of money, you better start to wake the f**k up and realise that Jake Paul vs Conor McGregor is going to happen at some point.”
Paul’s rant at White came shortly after he ambushed McGregor’s team-mate Dillon Danis and pelted him with water balloons.
Paul may very well be a combat sports novice, but he’s well and truly at the centre of the boxing and MMA worlds at this moment in time.

If the fight goes ahead it will be the first time all four world titles are contested for in the heavyweight division.

It comes following contrasting results in each of their most recent bouts.
Wilder won by a first-round knockout against Robert Helenius on his boxing comeback in New York, US, last week.
But Joshua was on the end of another defeat from Ukrainian champ Usyk in September as he failed to win the WBO, WBA and IBF belts back and become a three-time world champion.
And despite WIlder not having a belt to his name, he has now overtaken Joshua to be ranked as the world number one heavyweight boxer, according to the publication.

Fury, who knocked out Wilder in the final two fights of their epic trilogy, vacated the Ring Magazine title following his “retirement” earlier this year.
This meant the belt was left to be won by the victor of Uysk Joshua II and explains his absence from the rankings.
And the Gypsy King revealed that the reason behind this was to emulate icon Muhammad Ali.
After his fight against Derek Chisora in December, Fury is then expected to take on Usyk in a historic unification fight which will see all four belts on the line for the first time in the four-belt era.
