Chelsea being led by PSG in Gianluigi Donnarumma transfer race with AC Milan keeper yet to sign new contract

CHELSEA are being led by Paris Saint-Germain in the race to sign AC Milan goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, according to reports.
The Blues are believed to be interested in the giant stopper, whose contract is set to expire at the end of the season.

Italian website Libero last week claimed that Chelsea are readying a a £175,000-a-week offer for the 22-year-old.
But according to Tutto Mercato, Thomas Tuchel’s side face stiff competition.
They reckon that the German’s old club PSG are interested in Italy’s No1, as they chase a replacement for current first choice Keylor Navas.
Juventus are also keen on grabbing one of their rivals’ prized assets.

But Andrea Pirlo and Co will only pounce for Donnarumma, should they receive an offer of £21.5million for Wojciech Szczesny.
Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola is a big fan of the AC Milan goalkeeper.
But the Premier League leaders are unlikely to ditch current first choice Ederson to sign Donnarumma.
Representative Mino Raiola has been unusually coy on the subject of his client Donnarumma’s future.

They last sat around the table with Milan chiefs in December to discuss a new deal.
Milan are believed to have accepted Donnarumma’s request of around £170k-a-week to renew his deal.
But the 6ft 5in prodigy, who has been a regular at San Siro since the age of 16, is ‘in no hurry’ to sign on.
Chelsea have been linked of late, as they look to solve their goalkeeper woes.
Kepa Arrizabalaga has been a disaster since joining for over £70m in 2018.
And current first choice Edouard Mendy appears a stop gap option, with club bosses still on the hunt for a long-term No1.

Neymar hints he WILL be fit to face old club Barcelona with cryptic ‘loading’ post after returning to PSG training

NEYMAR has hinted that he will be fit for Paris Saint-Germain’s clash with Barcelona following a month out with a groin injury.
The Ligue 1 side obliterated their opponents in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie, winning 4-1 at the Camp Nou.

But the Catalans’ comeback win over Sevilla in the Copa del Rey semi-final has reminded PSG that the tie is not quite over.
Having Neymar back for next week’s game is a possibility according to RMC Sport, despite being ruled out of the upcoming Coupe de France trip to Brest.
Following his return to first-team training on Thursday, the Brazilian posted an image of his workout to Instagram with the cryptic caption: “Loading.”
And Les Parisiens boss Mauricio Pochettino has opened the door to his return.

The coach told reporters: “He will not be here tomorrow.
“But we are very happy with his development and we will see in the days to come if he can be part of the squad against Barcelona.”

PSG have lost just one of the five games he has sat out and remain two points off leaders Lille in Ligue 1.

Should Pochettino decide not to risk Neymar for next week’s clash, he may be saved for a huge showdown with third-placed Lyon later this month.
The winger, 29, was absent from PSG’s stunning first-leg win against his old club, which saw Kylian Mbappe star with an awe-inspiring hat-trick.
When the injury hit in early February, he expressed his major disappointment in a social media post where he questioned the treatment he receives from defenders.

Neymar wrote: “The sadness is great, the pain is immense and the crying is constant.
“Once again, I will stop for a while doing what I love the most in life, which is playing football. Sometimes I feel uncomfortable because of my style of play, because I dribble and they constantly hit me.
“I don’t know if the problem is me or what I do on the field. It saddens me a lot. It saddens me a lot to hear from a player, coach, commentator or whoever the hell it is, that ‘you really have to hit him’, ‘he falls’, ‘he cries’, ‘a child’, ‘spoiled’ etc.
“It honestly saddens me and I don’t even know how much I can bear it. I just want to be happy playing football. NOTHING ELSE.”

Man City star Benjamin Mendy eyed by PSG for summer transfer after falling out of favour

PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN are among the clubs keeping tabs on Benjamin Mendy.
The French World Cup winner’s future at Manchester City is looking increasingly uncertain.

His only appearances since mid-December have come in three FA Cup ties.
And the 26-year-old was nowhere to be seen when Pep Guardiola named his 20 players for the 4-1 home win over Wolves on Tuesday night.
The City boss has 21 senior professionals available and on Saturday spoke of his disappointment at having to make Eric Garcia the odd man out.
But the young Spanish international already knows he is leaving in the summer, probably for Barcelona.

The latest snub is a big blow for Mendy, who has struggled for fitness and form since a £49.3million move from Monaco in 2017.
He has started only 57 matches in those four years, despite arriving with a glowing reputation.
And a return to his homeland could be an option to kick-start the left-back’s career.
During the first few weeks of this year, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Joao Cancelo and Aymeric Laporte have all played his role — even though all of them were effectively out of position.

Guardiola stood by Mendy when he broke lockdown rules hosting a house party over the new year.
But since then he has struggled to get game time — his only involvement coming against Birmingham, Cheltenham and Swansea.
And there could be more competition on the horizon with summer signing Nathan Ake, who can play at left-back, nearing a return from injury.
Regardless of what happens with Mendy, City are likely to look at left-backs when the transfer window reopens this summer.

Chelsea star N’Golo Kante reveals why he snubbed PSG transfer under new boss Thomas Tuchel to stay at Stamford Bridge

N’GOLO KANTE has revealed the reasons behind his decision to snub a move to Thomas Tuchel’s Paris Saint-Germain.
The German is now Kante’s manager at Chelsea having left Ligue 1 late last year – where he had tried to land the midfield star.

N’Golo Kante has not spoken to Thomas Tuchel about the PSG transfer bidCredit: AFP or licensors

But the 29-year-old’s happiness at Stamford Bridge meant he did not consider the offer.
Kante told the club website: “I knew in the past there was some contact with Paris Saint-Germain when he was the manager, but it was not something I wanted.
“It did not happen because I was happy at Chelsea and I stayed here.
“I haven’t spoken to the manager about it!”

The Frenchman was linked with PSG in the summer of 2019 and admitted the interest was ‘rewarding’.
Yet he committed his future to Chelsea, where he is under contract until 2023.

Tuchel is slowly reintroducing Kante to his line-up after a spell out with a hamstring injury.

Starts against Southampton and Manchester United have come alongside a number of substitute appearances, and the player spoke of his frustration at being injured.
He continued: “When injury comes, you play two weeks, and then you get injured, it’s not the best.
“You don’t feel like you are giving the best to the club or your team-mates.

I realise now it’s better to take more time to recover. I speak with the medical staff to get the best out of me for the team.
    N’Golo Kante

“You can learn from these times to appreciate more the time you are fit, when you can play and train with your team-mates. When I have been injured it’s a period of reflection of what you can do better.
“I realise now it’s better to take more time to recover. I speak with the medical staff to get the best out of me for the team. This is something I have learned.
“I am happy now to feel good. We have played so many games in a short time, so injury can come back, but we try to prevent more injuries.
“I have learned when you are not ready, take more time because that will help the team more.”

Five world class strikers Man Utd could try to sign including Kane and Haaland after Carragher’s transfer warning

MANCHESTER UNITED lack ‘quality’ upfront and ‘need a centre-forward more than anything’, according to Jamie Carragher.
And SunSport have detailed five big name strikers the Red Devils could sign at the end of the season.

The Red Devils failed to score against a fellow member of the ‘Big Six’ for a sixth time in a row against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon.
And while accusations of ‘boring, boring Man Utd’ have been levelled at boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and his team, pundit Carragher doesn’t think the Norwegian is to blame.
He said on Sky Sports MNF: “In that final third they just didn’t have that quality.
“When the ball actually goes up to the front players – is there enough quality?

“You’ve said they’re the top scorers in the Premier League.
“But have they got that player to score in the decisive games, that player that’s going to take them to the league title?
“And when I look at that, people talk about Manchester United, they need a right winger, they went for (Jadon) Sancho, they need a centre-forward more than anything.”
And here SunSport has listed five front men the Red Devils could sign after Carragher’s stark warning.

    HARRY KANE
SunSport previously reported that Tottenham are unlikely to want to sell Kane and haven’t even set an asking price.
And with his Spurs contract running until 2024, United would have to pay a hefty fee to prise the star man away from North London.
But after Tottenham’s early promise this season it looks set to be another disappointing campaign with the club eighth in the table – albeit they are in the League Cup final.
Kane, 27, is in the peak years of his career and may just decide it’s time to go somewhere he has a legitimate chance of winning the Premier League.

    ERLING HAALAND
Solskjaer is set to be handed a summer war chest – and Haaland is said to be top of his wishlist.
United were in the hunt for Haaland, the most wanted striker in Europe, before he joined Borussia Dortmund last January.
A £65million release clause only kicks in next year, meaning anyone wanting to sign the 20-year-old before then will have to pay an inflated premium of at least £100m.
The striker has been in sensational form this season, scoring 17 Bundesliga goals in 18 games.

    KYLIAN MBAPPE
United legend Rio Ferdinand has begged his former employers to ‘move heaven and earth’ to sign Haaland or Mbappe.
The 42-year-old has urged Solskjaer to sign one of the two strikers as he stated the club cannot allow their Premier League rivals to nab them.
Speaking on his FIVE YouTube channel, he said: “Cavani, yes, he’s a good stop-gap but (we need) a centre-forward.
“If people like Erling Haaland or Kylian Mbappe are available, you can’t allow them to go somewhere else and you need to move heaven and earth to get them here.
“United are used to having superstars and those boys would change the narrative at this football club, that’s how good they are.
“There’s room for improvement and opportunity to improve this squad, there’s players out there available, it seems. We need to be in the mix.”

    RAUL JIMENEZ
United have been linked with Wolves’ Mexican striker for months and even made an approach last year.
He is back in training after his horror skull fracture picked up earlier this season.
The Red Devils were told to fork out £60m for him last summer but that fee could have gone down now.

    ANDRE SILVA
SunSport exclusively revealed last Tuesday that United will be offered Eintracht Frankfurt striker Silva for £30m, but only if Edinson Cavani leaves.
Silva’s agent Jorge Mendes is hoping to orchestrate the move with Frankfurt needing to raise funds to buy back Real Madrid forward Luka Jovic.
Portuguese international Silva has been on fire in the Bundesliga this season with 19 goals in 21 appearances – second only to Bayern’s Robert Lewandowski in the scoring charts.
The 25-year-old has been linked with a move to the Premier League in the past after leaving Porto to join AC Milan in 2017 for £32m.
Since then, loan switches to Sevilla and then Frankfurt saw him sign for the latter in September, but England remains an attractive option.
The deal – which could be worth up to £30m in pandemic times – is with bringing Jovic back to the club in mind.

Ferdinand begs Man Utd to ‘move heaven and earth’ to sign Mbappe or Haaland as he gives Solskjaer his transfer wishlist

MANCHESTER UNITED legend Rio Ferdinand has begged his former employers to ‘move heaven and earth’ to sign either Erling Haaland or Kylian Mbappe.

Borussia Dortmund marksman Haaland has been heavily linked with a switch to Old Trafford, but United are understood to face competition from Chelsea and Manchester City.
Meanwhile Paris Saint-Germain star Mbappe is believed to be attracting interest from Liverpool and Real Madrid.
With Edinson Cavani set to become a free agent in the summer, Ferdinand has declared a striker must be brought in if United want to compete for the title.
Speaking on his FIVE YouTube channel, he said: “Cavani, yes, he’s a good stopgap but (we need) a centre-forward.

“If people like Erling Haaland or Kylian Mbappe are available, you can’t allow them to go somewhere else and you need to move heaven and earth to get them here.

“There’s room for improvement and opportunity to improve this squad, there’s players out there available, it seems. We need to be in the mix.”
Ferdinand then stressed a quick centre-back must be eyed up, as he added: “Manchester United were playing catch up from everybody last season.

“They finished 30 points behind Liverpool last season, now they’re above them.  That’s a big, big achievement in that sense.
“I see progress. I still see room for improvement, we definitely need to buy a centre-back, a commanding centre-back with pace.”
Real Madrid ace Raphael Varane is believed to be a key target for Solskjaer, along with his Los Blacos team-mate Sergio Ramos.
United are also reportedly keen on bringing Fiorentina’s Nikola Milenkovic to the Theatre of Dreams, with the defender open to the move.
And the club are also said to be keeping tabs on Torino’s Nicolas Nkoulou, who is also on Leeds’ radar.

CHELSEA have received a boost in their pursuit of Lucas Gourna-Douath with St-Etienne reportedly prepared to accept £22million.
The centre-midfielder, 17, has been heavily linked with a move to the Blues and the Ligue 1 outfit may be forced into selling at the end of the season because of the financial impact of coronavirus.

Gourna-Douath is one of the hottest prospects in French football.
He has played 23 times in Ligue 1 this season earning praise for his performances from a deep-lying role.
St-Etienne boss Claude Puel wants him to be the future of his team.
The youngster is also said to be keen on continuing his development with his boyhood club.

But St-Etienne face being forced to sell at the end of this season as part of a mass player cull, according to FootMercato.
William Saliba and Wesley Fofana were sold to Arsenal and Leicester in 2019 and 2020 respectively and Gourna-Douath is set to follow to help balance the books.
But the Blues could face stiff competition as RB Leipzig and AC Milan are also said to be interested.
Gourna-Douath’s representatives are said to be preparing for all eventualities – including a move to England.

Elsewhere, it emerged AC Milan also want to sign Chelsea loanee Fikayo Tomori on a permanent transfer.
The West Londoners sent the English defender to the San Siro in January to gain first-team experience in the Serie A title race.
After Milan beat Roma 2-1 on Sunday, 23-year-old Tomori came in for huge praise in only his fifth start for the team.
And talk is already turning to Italian legend Paolo Maldini trying to sign him permanently.
Chelsea accepted a purchase option reportedly worth £27m when sending Tomori on loan.
And Milan chief Maldini hinted his team will try and reduce that fee ahead of any bid.
