Some posted pictures of Depay’s fingers in his ears celebration for when users continued to trick them into typing the word ‘memphis’.
Others shared memes of Spiderman turning to dust in the Avengers to represent those that had been banished for full-naming the forward.
Even Lyon’s official account got in on the act by tweeting a snap of Depay with the caption: “Hey Twitter – can we talk about him yet.”
The club then followed it up by tagging the City of Memphis, Tennessee and joking: “Rough day, huh”.

Arsenal target Aouar’s Lyon spot under threat as he’s compared to Payet and Ben Arfa over ‘motivation in small matches’

LYON star Houssem Aouar ‘lacks motivation’ for ‘smaller matches’, according to the club’s former boss Alain Perrin.
Aouar, who has been linked with Arsenal, was hooked at half-time of Friday night’s 1-1 draw with Reims.

With Lyon in their first title race in years, manager Rudi Garcia was ruthless with his talented midfielder.
And Perrin, 64, believes that Aouar can struggle to get up for certain games.
He told L’Equipe: “Aouar, I do not say that he chooses his matches because it is not that, but it may be hard for him to get motivated for smaller matches.”
The 22-year-old’s performances remind Perrin of mercurial talents Dmitri Payet and Hatem Ben Arfa.

He continued: “He has talent, it is not a question of abilities but rather of state of mind.
“It is not easy, I experienced that with Dimitri at St-Etienne and Hatem at Lyon. They are often there in the big games.”
Perrin also lamented his old team’s lack of consistency in general, adding: “The problem for Lyon with its young players is that they have been in the training of the club, they are gifted but they still have difficulty in having regularity in their performances, in repeating their efforts.
“They are therefore less at it in some matches. The good pro must be able to be even if he does not splash his talent at every meeting.”

The weekend’s results see Lyon stay third on 60 points, behind PSG on goal difference and trailing Christophe Galtier’s league leaders by three.

He previously told Corriere dello Sport: “It’s up to Leo to come to the club, because PSG are trying to convince him.

Bayer Leverkusen lead Arsenal in transfer chase to sign Germany star Julian Draxler on free this summer from PSG

BAYER LEVERKUSEN lead Arsenal in the transfer race to sign Julian Draxler, according to reports.
The Paris Saint-Germain playmaker, 27, is out of contract in the summer and will therefore become a free agent at the end of the season.

Julian Draxler is expected to head back to Germany this summer and join Bayer Leverkusen for freeCredit: Reuters

And Todofichajes state the Bundesliga side are the likeliest to land the German because he wants to return to his homeland.
He came through the youth ranks at Schalke to make his first-team debut aged 17 then had a spell at Wolfsburg before joining PSG in 2017, winning three Ligue 1 titles.
The 56-cap Germany international also has seven goals for Die Mannschaft and lifted the World Cup in 2014 under Joachim Low.
Draxler also has reservations about making the switch to Arsenal.

He would be concerned about how much playing time he would get under Mikel Arteta at the Emirates.
The Gunners have youngsters Emile Smith Rowe and Bukayo Saka in form, Martin Odegaard could join permanently while Willian and Nicolas Pepe have hit purple patches.
The report adds Bayer have tracked Draxler for a while and now appear close to landing their target.
Due to the lack of transfer fee, Leverkusen will also make him one of their top earners.

Draxler was linked with Leeds during the January transfer window but ended up staying put at the Parc des Princes.
In a season hit with injury woes and up against some of the world’s best players in competition for places, he has managed 20 appearances in all competitions, scoring three.
But he was given a rare start in the 1-1 draw with Barcelona on Wednesday night as PSG booked their place in the Champions League quarter-finals.
He was replaced just before the hour mark by fit-again Angel Di Maria.

And he simply captioned the post with two respectful looking emojis – praying hands and hands to the heavens.

And with Kylian Mbappe’s future still in doubt, Ronaldo has now emerged as a prime target for the French champions.
Juve were left stunned on Wednesday as they suffered defeat in the last-16 to 10-men Porto, with Ronaldo criticised over his poor defending for the Portuguese side’s decisive extra-time free-kick.
It’s been claimed that Juventus will not stand in Ronnie’s way if he wants to quit, with Inter Milan also set to take their Serie A title.
And PSG have put themselves at the front of the queue due to Al-Khelaifi’s ‘strong relationship’ with Ronaldo’s representative Mendes.

The Parisiens believe the veteran striker would be the perfect replacement for World Cup winner Mbappe.
The French superstar, 22, will have just one year left on his contract this summer, with Real Madrid and Liverpool keen.
And Ronaldo, 36, could fill in for the Frenchman at the Parc des Princes in the upcoming transfer window.
Indeed, PSG sporting director Leonardo refused to rule out a bid for Ronnie on Thursday.

He told RMC Sport: “The transfer window is very fluid, there is movement. PSG is very desired.
“All the great players are linked with PSG, it is something that must be valued.
“We are always in a position to speak with great players who would like to come.”
Reflecting on Mbappe’s future, Leonardo added: “You know what our intentions are. We are trying to reach a conclusion as quickly as possible.
“We are speaking, we are advancing, we will see. We are going to reach a moment where we need a conclusion and an idea of each other’s position.
“It is important to be clear. Today, Mbappe is under contract with PSG until 2022. That is a fact, today there is no worry.”

It clearly didn’t work, as PSG left Spain with a 4-1 advantage, with superstar Kylian Mbappe scoring three of those vital away goals.
Barca have it all to do and matters may be worse now after PSG fans returned the favour with a fireworks display in the earlier hours of the morning.
It was the latest in attempts from supporters to put off the LaLiga giants, as a section of sick fans held up a Shakira ‘prostitute’ banner.
The ultras were slammed as misogynistic following the jibe at Barca defender Gerard Pique’s wife.

Suffering from a knee injury, the centre-back is ruled out of the Champions League last-16 second leg.
Last Sunday night, a parade of ultras lit flares and held up a number of banners in the French capital.
One read ‘Shakira a La Jonquera’ in reference to a town on the French-Spanish border that is notorious for prostitution.
Many viewing the images found them sexist and unnecessarily insulting of the ‘Beautiful Liar’ singer.
