Arsenal and Man Utd in Eduardo Camavinga transfer fight as Rennes midfielder, 18, ‘refuses to sign new contract’

ARSENAL are reportedly in the transfer battle to sign Eduardo Camavinga after he refused to sign a new contract at Rennes. But the Gunners face strong competition from Manchester United and Real Madrid for the defensive midfielder.

Reports earlier this week stated the 18-year-old would not put pen to paper on a new deal with the Ligue 1 side.
With his current contract expiring in 2022, that means Rennes may be forced into selling their young star or risk losing him for free next year.
And according to Marca, Arsenal may try their luck to lure the Frenchman to the Emirates – even if, like Rennes, they cannot offer Champions League football next season.
A lack of European football of any kind at Rennes plus suggestions they would try and add a release clause into a new contract is thought to be putting Camavinga off committing his future to the club and pricing himself out of a dream move.
He signed with Gareth Bale’s agent Jonathan Barnett at the end of last year, possibly in anticipation of a mega move.
And with plenty of links in England and Spain, there will be no shortage of interest in the Frenchman.
Barnett told The Athletic: “Camavinga can play next year in the Premier League. He is that good. Whether he will or not, I don’t know.
“His background is tough if you know what he went through as a refugee. But his character is amazingly strong.

“He is not your average 18-year-old. Playing in front of 100,000 people is not going to scare him.
“He’s a lovely boy and I think he’s going to be a superstar.”
Speaking about where his new client could end up, Barnett suggested LaLiga is the most likely destination.
He added: “Eduardo will have a choice of a lot of clubs if Rennes decide to release him.
“Madrid are a great club, a great club to play for.
“They will be one of the four of five clubs in the world he might go to. Eduardo would love to play for a top club.
“Madrid are one of those top clubs in the world, so are Barcelona.”
Camavinga has 77 first-team club appearances under his belt already – including four impressive displays in this season’s Champions League.

The Angola-born midfielder netted a stunning overhead kick on his international full senior debut for the world champions last October to become the youngest scorer for France in 106 years.
As well as Real, Arsenal and United, Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus are among the teams tracking him.
Rumours in recent months have quoted a £45million transfer fee – the kind of money Rennes would surely find impossible to turn down.
However, the Red Devils want to avoid any long-strung transfer sagas.
Their pursuit of Jadon Sancho last summer ultimately failed and they do not want a repeat if they go back in for the England winger, his Borussia Dortmund team-mate Erling Haaland or Camavinga.

Man Utd join Chelsea in Joachim Andersen transfer hunt with Lyon defender impressing on season-long loan at Fulham

Despite Fulham’s struggles, he has hit the ground running in West London, earning the captain’s armband in just his fourth Premier League appearance.
And his quick progress has not gone unnoticed by potential suitors.
Danish outlet BT claim that the Red Devils have more than just a passing interest in the 24-year-old.
And they are not the only ones.
London rivals Tottenham and Chelsea also have the imposing 6ft 4in stopper on their radar.
While Leicester and Crystal Palace are also fans of the player.
If Fulham stay up, however, he could opt to stay for next season.
Andersen is understood to have a close relationship with boss Scott Parker.

But staying for a campaign in the Championship would seemingly be out of the question.
The four-cap defender will still have three years remaining on his contract at parent club Lyon.
But with the Ligue 1 title hopefuls having just renewed Jason Denayer and Marcelo, he isn’t thought to have a future at Groupama Stadium.
Spurs may have stolen a march on their rivals for Andersen, with BT also claiming that his representatives are set to meet with the North Londoners next week.
But it is believed that they will have to pay around £25million for his services.

Furious Phil Foden deletes unauthorised tweet ‘calling out’ PSG star Kylian Mbappe after Man City win at Dortmund

PHIL FODEN was forced to delete a tweet about Kylian Mbappe after Man City set up a Champions League semi-final against PSG.A tweet from the City rising star’s account appeared to throw down the gauntlet to French striker Mbappe.

The tweet said ‘@KMbappe’ are you ready’ and was posted minutes after Pep Guardiola’s men beat Dortmund on Wednesday night.
According to Daily Mail, the tweet from Foden’s account was posted without his permission and he was left furious.
The report added that Foden quickly asked for the tweet to be deleted.
Foden scored the winner as Man City came from behind to beat Dortmund 2-1 on the night to seal a 4-2 aggregate win.
Man City will face PSG in a mouth-watering semi-final showdown after the French side knocked out holders Bayern Munich.
And striker Mbappe is likely to pose the biggest threat to Guardiola’s side in their bid to win an elusive Champions League.
Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville recently said it was ‘a shame’ that players didn’t control their own social media.
The Sky Sports pundit spoke after several players posted near identical tweets following England’s victory over Albania last month.

I mentioned on here a few weeks ago about players having their accounts run by social media companies. Lads run your own accounts! Your independent thought and authenticity is at stake . It’s your voice , not anyone else’s. Morning by the way . Go and attack the hell out of it ❤️ pic.twitter.com/M997r8kbWa— Gary Neville (@GNev2) April 15, 2021

The former Three Lions defender, who won 85 caps, said: “Reading some of the England players tweets last night. Do any of the lads post themselves? They don’t sound authentic.
“It’s a real shame they don’t manage their personal connection to the fans and media.”
And this morning he tweeted: “I mentioned on here a few weeks ago about players having their accounts run by social media companies.
“Lads run your own accounts! Your independent thought and authenticity is at stake. It’s your voice, not anyone else’s.”

Joe Hart was also left red faced last month after a massive gaffe from his social media team.
Spurs were dumped out of the Europa League by Dinamo Zagreb, but Hart’s Instagram posted ‘job done’ despite the defeat.
Hart said: “I feel like I need to come on and make an apology on behalf of my social media team, I’ve literally just woke up.
“Someone thought that we’d won 3-0 last night. As sloppy as it sounds it’s the truth.
“They posted ‘job done’. That’s unacceptable. I’m sure that’s annoyed a lot of people and I’m sorry it’s come to that but it’s obviously not come from me.”

Neymar, 29, has just one year left on his £600,000-a-week contract and been linked with a move back to Spain.
But, speaking after the Champions League win over Bayern Munich, Neymar said his contract is no longer an issue.
He told TNT Sports Brazil: “I don’t think this is even a topic anymore, I obviously feel very comfortable, at home at PSG.
    “I feel happier than before.”
The Brazil striker helped his side beat last year’s Champions League winners Bayern on away goals.
Last season’s beaten finalists have set up a semi-final date with either Manchester City or Borussia Dortmund.
And club president Nasser Al Khelaifi promised even more investment as well as keeping hold of Neymar’s strike partner Kylian Mbappe.

“We have a great team today. We have respect for the others but we are there with them.

Watch Neymar bamboozle Coman before hitting bar as brilliant Brazilian toys with Bayern in PSG Champions League triumph

NEYMAR did absolutely everything but score in a memorable performance against Bayern Munich. The brilliant Brazilian regularly delved into his bag of tricks at the Parc des Princes as Paris Saint-Germain progressed to the Champions League semi-finals, despite a 1-0 loss on the night.

Never more so than when he made Kingsley Coman look silly before hitting the bar in a pulsating first half.
After 36 minutes of Tuesday’s clash, Neymar picked up a clearance and skipped around Coman to forge one of his many chances.
But his finishing was just off as he curled an effort around his marker and hit the bar.
And Neymar would hit the woodwork again only moments later as PSG chased a vital goal to build on their 3-2 first-leg lead.
Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting went on to score the only goal of the game but holders Bayern crashed out on away goals.
Both teams missed a number of opportunities in a thrilling end-to-end clash with Neymar coming close again in the second period, sliding in but unable to get a toe to Angel Di Maria’s cross with the goal gaping.
Nobody had more shots on the night than the 29-year-old’s six, three of which were on target.

He also led his team for key passes (three), touches (85), fouls won (seven), and passes in the opposition half (28).
It earned the striker the official Man of the Match award, following on from Kylian Mbappe’s gong in the first leg.
Neymar rued the misses after the final whistle but pointed out that PSG’s away goals victory was more important.
He told RMC Sport, via GFFN: “All those missed chances… I was missing by so little.

PSG 0 Bayern Munich 1 (3-3): Reigning champs crash out to Pochettino on away goals as both sides spurn huge chances

LOOK AWAY Tottenham fans – your old boss is now a step closer to lifting the Champions League.Mauricio Pochettino, a former darling of North London, came close to delivering European glory two years ago before being unceremoniously sacked by Tottenham chief Daniel Levy five months later.

Yet refreshed and relaxed after a sabbatical, the Argentine is eyeing a trip to Istanbul on May 29 after Paris Saint-Germain sensationally knocked out holders Bayern Munich in a thrilling quarter-final tie.
Though they lost this memorable second leg 1-0 – ex-Stoke star Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting scored for Munich against his former side – the French outfit tremendously held their nerve to progress on the away goals rule.
As if Spurs fans don’t have enough to worry about besides their floundering Premier League form, Jose Mourinho’s tactics and talk of a Harry Kane exit. Now they may have to cancel their BT Sport subscriptions.
Across the Channel, their former hero Pochettino has the chance to win the TREBLE – if they can overtake Lille in Ligue 1 – and finally join the managerial elite after years without a major trophy.
Pochettino, a cheeky glint in his eye, his appetite for the game returned, said: “We are happy for the players, the club, the President. After three months working we are here and we are showing that if you qualify for the semi-finals, it’s an amazing moment.
“When you are on touchline close to the pitch, it’s not easy to enjoy. I’m calm outside. Inside I’m a little bit stressed. That is the adrenaline we love to feel.
Our job is to get this type of talent to work as a team, to put in effort without the ball, to feel we are a real team. That is the challenge.PSG boss Mauricio Pochettino
“They are fantastic players. The capacity and quality is there. Of course they work so hard. Our job is to get this type of talent to work as a team, to put in effort without the ball, to feel we are a real team. That is the challenge.”
In recent days, Kane has been linked to the French capital this summer but looking at the £434million attacking quartet – where exactly would he fit?
For once, Neymar was injury-free and really up for this match, turning an exhilarating first half of football into a private duel with giant German goalkeeper Manuel Neuer.
Three times Neuer managed to block or save from the often indulgent Brazilian.
Twice he was beaten but both times the clever attempts from the PSG striker crashed against the woodwork, one against the bar, the other against a post.
Neymar hit the woodwork twice in his bid for a goalCredit: AFP
PSG’s 1-0 defeat meant they qualified for the final four on away goalsCredit: Getty
Those five misses were put into stark contrast on 40 minutes when Choupo-Moting, who had started poorly, headed home from three yards out.
In the absence of the injured Robert Lewandowski, it was a proper old-fashioned centre-forward’s goal as he reacted first when Keylor Navas saved a stinging shot from David Alaba.
The quality of skill on show was hypnotising to watch. Undoubtedly these two legs will go down as two of the best matches in European competition this campaign.
Maestro Angel Di Maria displayed nifty footwork to create a chance out of nothing early in the secondhalf.
But a stretching Neymar, similar to an agonising Paul Gascoigne against Germany at Euro 96, was inches from converting the ingenious pass into an open net.
It was tight and tense, just like the 2020 final these two clubs contested, but PSG’s defence held firm in a frantic finale, specifically the magnificent goalkeeper Navas, to gain revenge for that Lisbon heartbreak.

Missed chances were rued by the Bundesliga giantsCredit: AFP

For Munich, their reign as champions is over. Potentially it’s the end for head coach Hansi Flick despite last season’s Treble feats.
For PSG, it’s either Manchester City or Borussia Dortmund next in the semi-finals and on this display, they will fear neither.
As Poch would remember: To dare is to do.

PSG in Harry Kane transfer battle as they look to beat Man Utd and City to Tottenham striker if Kylian Mbappe leaves

Mbappe, 22, is wanted by the likes of Real Madrid and only currently has one more season on his PSG deal.
And the Independent report that PSG will look towards Spurs striker Kane in a potential reunion with Mauricio Pochettino.
SunSport revealed that Tottenham have no intention of selling their star striker.
Daniel Levy’s club will demand £175million if a foreign club want his services but a sale to a Prem rival like Man Utd or Man City is off the table.
Kane realises he might have to quit his boyhood club to win football’s biggest prizes — but he is loyal to Tottenham, he loves the club and is not currently willing to force his way out.
The star striker has three years to run on the bumper contract he signed in June 2018 and hopes the club will match his ambitions in that time.
But SunSport understands Spurs are ready to dig their heels in and make it almost impossible for him to get away before then if Kane did make the first move.
Reports in France this week claimed that Poch has personally called Kane about his summer plans.

The Spurs icon, now in charge of PSG, is reported to be keen on a reunion with the England captain if he fails to keep star men Mbappe and Neymar in the French capital.
Both players are out of contract in 2022 and this summer could be the last chance to cash in, or risk losing them for nothing.
Kane helped fire Spurs to the Champions League final under Pochettino just months before the Argentine’s shock sacking in November 2019.
