Neymar’s dad ‘agrees five-year PSG deal on same terms as previous contract but Brazilian waits on Barcelona transfer’

NEYMAR’s father has successfully negotiated a new five-year deal at Paris Saint-Germain.But the player himself wants to wait until he’s seen Barcelona’s new proposal before signing.

Neymar, 29, has just over a year remaining on his current deal in the French capital, but has been expected to pen a new one for some time.
Barcelona re-entering the race to sign him, however, has thrown a spanner in the works.
Neymar’s dad has agreed a five-year contract with PSG, on the same terms as his current deal.
And the Parisians previously expected that to be enough to put the saga to bed.
But Neymar, who yearned for a return to Barcelona during the summer of 2019, has reportedly had his head turned by Joan Laporta’s ambitious plans to bring up back to Calatonia.
According to Sport, PSG’s No10 has ‘delayed’ signing a new deal as long as possible – because he wants to hear a ‘structured proposal’ from Barcelona.
Laporta, 58, hopes to bring Neymar back this summer, in order to show Lionel Messi that he is serious about positioning the club to win the Champions League again.

He subsequently left Barcelona in a controversial world-record deal back in 2017, with two clear objectives in mind.
Neymar wanted to bring the Champions League trophy to Paris, and he was determined to be crowned best player in the world.
But, having achieved neither, he is tempted to return to Barca, and rekindle his fantastic relationship on the pitch with Messi.
Neymar could yet still achieve one of his PSG goals this season, however, although their Champions League hopes are hanging by a thread.
The superstar is currently in Manchester alongside his team-mates, ready to take on City in their semi-final second-leg at Etihad Stadium tonight.

Should PSG manage to overturn their 2-1 deficit and reach the final, any mention of a move to Barcelona will be shelved by Neymar’s camp until after the showpiece event.
But should Mauricio Pochettino’s side bow out, PSG chiefs face a nervous few weeks as the transfer window approaches.
In 2019, Barcelona were willing to offer Neymar the same salary that he had earned during his previous stint with the club.
But the attacker would now require a higher wage – something that Barca could struggle to provide.
Laporta has therefore reportedly drawn up a further six-man shortlist of targets – including Sergio Aguero, Erling Haaland and Georginio Wijnaldum.

And the Portuguese superstar is now said to be considering a move to Mauricio Pochettino’s Paris Saint-Germain as he eyes a final hurrah at the top,
Partner Georgina has now poured fuel on the flames after posting a picture to Instagram showing her boarding a private jet to the French capital.
She simply captioned the snap: “Bonjour Paris.”

PSG chief appears less confident about Neymar signing new contract after ‘Barcelona make contact over transfer return’

Neymar, 29, appears happy at the club, having said as much prior to PSG’s 2-1 Champions League semi-final first-leg defeat to Manchester City last week.
But amid reports of Barcelona rekindling their long-term interest in bringing him back, Neymar’s desire to return to Catalonia has reportedly returned.
Quizzed about PSG’s No10’s future over the weekend, Leonardo merely said: “You have to see everything calmly.”
This represents a change in the noise coming out of both parties, with Neymar himself having previously told RMC Sport that things were close to completion.
He said last week: “My extension? Everything is almost settled.
“You know, we’re in discussions with PSG… We’re not in a hurry. I feel comfortable.
    “I feel really happy here.”
Since leaving Barcelona for around £200million back in 2017, Neymar has been heavily linked with a return virtually every summer.

As yet, the cash-strapped LaLiga side have been unable to put together a satisfactory package.
But new president Joan Laporta wants to get the deal done – and is believed to be prioritising it even over his pursuit of Borussia Dortmund hotshot Erling Haaland.
Spanish news outlet RAC1 claim that Neymar is ‘desperate’ to return – and that he would even be willing to potentially take a pay cut, given the crippling £1bn debt Barcelona find themselves in.

That resulted in the referee dishing out four red cards post-match – two apiece for each club.
The defeat is a huge blow to third-place Monaco’s title aspirations as they now sit four points behind Paris Saint-Germain in second.
Lille top the table, but now Lyon are only one point behind Monaco in the race for Champions League qualification.
Monaco were on a five-game winning run and looked to be continuing that when Kevin Volland finished after a pass from Wissam Ben Yedder on 25 minutes.
Depay levelled moments before the hour mark with a deflected strike.
Lyon midfielder Maxence Caqueret was sent off on 70 minutes and then Depay’s brilliant free-kick from the right was met by defender Marcelo’s head to give them the lead.
But a blunder from Lyon goalkeeper Anthony Lopes led to a penalty for Monaco, which France striker Ben Yedder scored to make it 2-2 with four minutes to go.
Then it was Lyon’s 17-year-old starlet Rayan Cherki who came off the bench to finish superbly to seal the win in the 89th minute with his first touch.

Lyon’s Mattia De Sciglio and Marcelo plus Monaco’s Pietro Pellegri and Willem Geubbels were all shown a red after the on-pitch brawl.
Get French Football News described the scenes as: “Huge fight breaking out after the final whistle between both sets of players!

Leicester launch £35m Boubakary Soumare raid as they back Brendan Rodgers in transfer market amid Tottenham links

It is a huge statement by Leicester who are prepared to back Rodgers as they prepare for Champions League football – and keep him happy.
Soumare, 22, has been on Premier League wish lists for a couple of years, but the price tag has put off all previous attempts to sign him.
Newcastle and West Ham looked but stepped back, while Tottenham and Manchester United have also been linked.
However, Leicester are serious about spending big and hope to clinch the deal immediately.
Soumare has been a key part of Lille’s title bid with the Ligue 1 leaders one point clear of current champions Paris Saint-Germain.
Having made a name for himself at Stade Pierre-Mauroy after leaving PSG as a youngster, he has aroused the interest of several teams.
Soumare has over 100 appearances for Lille and 12 for France Under-21s.
The midfielder rejected a move out of Lille in January and boss Christophe Galtier praised how the player has dealt with speculation over his future.

Galtier said in February: “At every transfer window, we talk about him.
“I know that he was in demand this winter, but he was very clear with the president, he wants to continue with us.
“The competition, the transfer window, the situation has not always been easy for him, but I think he has greater clarity in his mind.”

Maurizio Pochettino – son of PSG boss Mauricio – makes Watford first-team debut at 20 as he looks to follow dad’s career

MAURICIO POCHETTINO’S son Maurizio has made his senior debut after featuring in Watford’s 2-0 defeat against Brentford. The 20-year-old – who joined the Hornets on a permanent deal from Tottenham in January – has impressed since linking up with the academy.

Pochettino joined the Hornets from Tottenham during the January transfer window
He scored a sublime left-footed strike on his debut for the Under-23’s in a 3-2 win against Ipswich.
And he then found the back of the net in the victories against Millwall and Swansea.
His stellar form earned him a place on the bench for the Championship clash against Wycombe in March, where he was an unused substitute.
But he was rewarded with a first-team debut on Saturday as he replaced Dan Gosling with five minutes remaining at the Brentford Community Stadium.
With the scoreline at 2-0 thanks to goals from Marcus Forss and Ivan Toney, Watford boss Xisco Munoz decided to give Pochettino a run out.
And within moments after coming on, he almost gifted the Bees a third goal in what was one of his only contributions in the match.
Pochettino was guilty of slack defending in his own half, with former Liverpool midfielder Sergio Canos beating him to the ball.
The ex-Barcelona youth star struck the bar with his effort as Brentford beat Watford for the first time since 1977.

Watford’s defeat has no significance to the season as they will finish the 2020-21 campaign in second place as they secured an instant return to the Premier League.
They have just one game left to play before their season comes to an end, with the Hertfordshire outfit to welcome Swansea to Vicarage Road next week.
And Watford could bring Inter Milan star Ashley Young back to the club as the 35-year-old mulls over his future.
