Chelsea star Emerson Palmieri joins Lyon on season-long loan transfer after signing new Blues deal until 2023

EMERSON PALMIERI has joined French club Lyon on a season-long loan after signing a new two-year deal at Chelsea. The Italian Euro-winning left-back was attracting a lot of interest from Serie A outfit Napoli.
Emerson won the Champions League, the Euros and the Super Cup in just under three monthsCredit: GETTY IMAGES
But Lyon have won the race for the 27-year-old’s signature, announcing it on Twitter.
The French club have also reportedly agreed an option to sign Emerson permanently at the end of the season-long switch.
Lyon boss Peter Bosz is over the moon with the signing of Emerson, and has revealed that the Italian is already impressing in training.
He said: “Damien Da Silva has a lot of experience. He gives his desire to win, to work, to the team.
“I am happy that Emerson Palmieri happened. He was in a big club, where you always have to win, like with the Italian team.
“Emerson has a good left foot. It was his first training.

“I’ll chat with him to see how it went. We will see tomorrow if he will be fit for the match against Clermont.
“If he’s ready, that will be an added possibility. ”
Emerson expressed his happiness of the move on Instagram, stating that he is looking forward to “a new mission”.
He captioned the post: “A new club, a new mission. All together. Allez, Lyon.”
I am happy that Emerson Palmieri happened. He was in a big club, where you always have to win, like with the Italian team.Peter Bosz
Emerson is the sixth Chelsea star to leave the club on loan this summer alongside Kenedy, Michy Batshuayi, Matt Miazga, Billy Gilmour and Jake Clarke-Salter.
But it looks increasingly unlikely that Trevoh Chalobah will be joining some of his team-mates out on loan.
The 22-year-old had a fantastic pre-season, and Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has confirmed that the “logical” decision will be for him to stay.
Tuchel said: “He did a fantastic pre-season, a fantastic player and top character with both feet on the ground.

“He took his chance very impressively and it’s logical that he stays with us. We absolutely want to keep him.
“I know nothing about the contract situation.
“It’s a good moment to stay with the group and take further steps to achieve his dream. He deserves this. It’s not a gift.”

PSG 4-2 Strasbourg LIVE RESULT: Mbappe leads Parisians to four-goal win in front of Messi despite being BOOED by fans

KYLIAN MBAPPE led PSG to a 4-2 victory over Strasbourg despite being booed by his own fans. The World Cup winner was given a frosty reception by the home crowd as speculation over a move to Real Madrid continues.
Mauro Icardi headed the Parisians in front after just two minutes with a lengthy VAR review ruling the goal to be onside.
And Mbappe then doubled the hosts’ lead with a deflected strike before setting up Julian Draxler for a third.
But the visitors came back into the game in the second half through goals from Kevin Gameira and Ludovic Ajorque before Mbappe set up Pablo Sarabia to make the result safe
Lionel Messi was not in the stands rather than on the pitch for today’s game, which came too soon after his Copa America exploits.
    THAT’S ALL FROM PARIS
Paris Saint-Germain picked up a rather dramatic win over Strasbourg in their first home game of the season in front of Lionel Messi at Parc des Princes.
PSG opened the scoring just after three minutes when Abdou Diallo’s beautiful cross from the left flank found Mauro Icardi, who caught Matz Sels out of position and beat him with a wonderful header.
Kylian Mbappe doubled the hosts’ lead on 25 minutes after being jeered by the home crowd before kick-off as he has yet to pen a new deal with the French giants.
Mbappe got the ball down the left wing and fired a shot that deflected off Ludovic Ajorque and caught Sels off guard.
The France international turned from scorer to creator just a minute later when he provided a cross from the left flank and set Julian Draxler at the far post in front of open goal.
Things got worse for Strasbourg boss Julien Stephan as he lost Jean-Eudes Aholou to injury.
But the Coureurs refused to go quietly and put together a strong display in the opening minutes of the second half.
Adrien Thomasson, who took Aholou’s place, delivered a pinpoint cross from the right area of the box and found Kevin Gameiro who beat Keylor Navas with a stunning header on 53 minutes.
The visitors got back in the game just 11 minutes later when captain Dimitri Lienard delivered a brilliant ball from the left flank and found Ajorque, who bested Navas with a stunning header from the edge of the box.
Strasbourg’s hopes of a late comeback died when Alexander Djiku was sent off with his second yellow card in just two minutes following a reckless challenge on Icardi.
Mbappe put the game to rest with a beautiful run from the left flank that led to his second assist of the game as he set up Pablo Sarabia in front of open goal on 86 minutes

    SARABIA REACTS
Paris Saint-Germain ace Pablo Sarabia is pleased with the result but admitted his position in the starting line-up is at risk after Lionel Messi’s arrival despite his goal against Strasbourg.
Sarabia told Canal+: “It was very important for us to win.
“I am very happy for the team and for myself too. It’s good for confidence.
“Now we have to keep improving. Everyone wants to play on this team, it will be difficult for everyone to play.
“This goal is important for me because my situation is a bit difficult”
    GETTY IMAGES
    NEYMAR RETURN
Neymar watched Paris Saint-Germain take on Strasbourg from the stands of Parc des Princes with former Barcelona team-mate Lionel Messi.
The Brazil international recently came back from an extended holiday following this summer’s Copa America.
The star forward is among various players who have yet to return to full match fitness after taking part in the summer’s international competitions.
The same goes for Leandro Paredes Angel Di Maria and Marquinhos as well as Marco Verratti and Gianluigi Donnarumma, who competed in Euro 2020.
But Neymar should be fit sooner than Messi and we could probably see him on August 29 at Reims
    GETTY IMAGES
    MESSI DEBUT
After Lionel Messi’s presentation, Paris Saint-Germain fans are counting down the seconds until his highly-anticipated debut.
Messi admitted he will need time to adjust as he didn’t get any pre-season training following an extended holiday he took after he led Argentina to Copa America success.
There is no set date for the star forward’s PSG debut but we can expect him to don the jersey for the first time either on August 29 at Reims or at home on September 12 against Clermont.
The match against Brest away on August 20 might also be deemed too early for the six-time Ballon d’Or winner

Pogba proved his importance to this Manchester United side as his future is in doubt, as he is currently in the final year of his contract.
It’s an astonishing start to the season from Pogba, after he only managed three assists in his 26 league games in total last season.
Pogba unlocked Leeds’ defence with a first-time through ball to put Bruno Fernandes in one-on-one for the opening goal.
He then teed up Greenwood with an exquisite long ball to make it 2-1, before picking out Fernandes and Fred inside the box for the third and fifth goal.
During the summer, Pogba’s future has sparked much debate, with people questioning whether to cash in now or attempt to sign him up for the long term.
But with Paris Saint-Germain reportedly heavily interested in a move, the onus is now on United to persuade him to stay.

Pogba repaid the faith shown him by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer who gave him the freedom to play his own game against Leeds.
He said: “I’ve had a great relationship with Paul all the time, ever since he was a kid.
“Today’s message was just about: go out and enjoy yourself. He had 45 minutes against Everton [in pre-season], which was not his best.

“But today we just gave him the freedom overall, to go wherever he wanted to go. We wanted him to get on the ball.
“All the best players would want to feel our trust in them, our confidence. And Paul is one of those players who can create something out of nothing.
“He looked so strong and I was impressed by his fitness. That’s a good sign.”

Berrier made over 100 appearances for KV Oostende, and went on to work as their assistant manager.
He also had spells with Zulte Waregem and Standard Liege, but heart problems forced him to hang up his boots in 2019.
Berrier was rushed to hospital on Thursday after collapsing during a game of the racquet sport Padel.
Medics battled to save him, but he passed away following a second heart attack within hours.
Dirk Mergaert of the TC Kortemark Padel club said: “Franck was involved in a tournament, and had to play in two matches yesterday.
“He collapsed around 10pm, and our match officials revived him. We used a defibrillator, which previously helped us revive four others.

“He was taken to hospital in Roeselare, but they were unable to save him. Our club is devastated at his passing.
“We send our deepest sympathy to his family and friends.”
Berrier made 307 senior appearances in France and Belgium, scoring 63 goals.
Former club Oostende said: “It is with great sadness and dismay that we learned of the death of club icon Franck Berrier.

“He passed away after a heart attack while playing sport.”
Berrier said in 2019: “My heart is only working at 70 per cent. There is no danger in day-to-day life.
“But if I put too much strain on it there’s the risk that blood won’t be pumped in fast enough – and I’ll have a heart attack.”

He said: “You have to make changes from time to time but  there must be room.
“Everyone expects some  signings. Do you buy a new full-back? A new keeper? We already have good players there.
“In midfield, we have a lot of experience and exciting young boys in Harvey Elliott and Curtis Jones.”
Klopp also feels he has plenty of  quality in attack and added: “If you want to buy such players, you have to spend a lot of money.

Lionel Messi’s heartbreaking final WhatsApp message to Barcelona team-mates revealed after shock PSG transfer

Lionel Messi has left Barcelona after 21 years to join Paris Saint-Germain on a free transferCredit: Getty
Messi has agreed a contract at Parc des Princes until 2023, with the club having the option to keep him in France for a further year.
And while the Argentine legend has expressed his excitement at linking up with Les Parisiens, Messi had been keen to remain at the Nou Camp.
The six-time Ballon d’Or winner’s Barca exit was confirmed last week, with the player reduced to tears in his leaving press conference where he declared he wanted to stay.
He even agreed to halve his wages at Barca, but a salary cap ensured the cash-strapped LaLiga club couldn’t offer him a new deal.
And his heartbreak at leaving the Blaugrana has now been revealed with Argentine journalist Veronica Brunati tweeting what Messi told his team-mates.
She claims Messi said: “I don’t want to go. There is nothing left to do, there is no money.
“The club is doing very badly, they cannot extend with me.”
Messi – one of five summer signings brought in by PSG – is now looking forward to a new chapter in his career.

Liverpool ‘set to win Renato Sanches transfer race ahead of Barcelona as Lille slap £40m price tag on midfielder’

LIVERPOOL look set to win the transfer race to sign Renato Sanches, according to reports. The midfielder, 23, is expected to leave Lille this summer after helping them win the Ligue 1 title last season.
Renato Sanches is expected to leave Lille this summer with Liverpool interestedCredit: AFP
According to Mundo Deportivo, the French side are demanding £40million for their Portuguese star.
Liverpool are keen to bring in an extra midfielder after the departure of Gini Wijnaldum on a free transfer to Paris Saint-Germain while Youri Tielemans looks set to stay at FA Cup winners Leicester.
But the Reds may try and lower the asking price to get a cheaper deal for the energetic midfield man.
Barcelona were also thought to be interested in Sanches, after missing out on Wijnaldum.
But their financial disarray means they are unable to register any new signings.
And that may well give Liverpool a free run to bring Sanches back to the Premier League.
After breaking through with Benfica, he won the league and cup double, Euro 2016 and Golden Boy award in a stunning 2016.
But after joining Bayern Munich, his career spiralled downwards with a flop loan spell at Swansea in 2017-18.
However, the star got it back on track when he transferred from Bayern to Lille two years ago and has been on an upward trajectory ever since.
Selling Sanches would mean losing two of their key title-winning central midfielders after Boubakary Soumare moved to Leicester.
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has only brought in one new face in the summer window so far.
Ibrahima Konate signed from RB Leipzig in a £36m transfer to bolster the defence.

But with the club also linked with £38m-rated Belgian teenage winger Jeremy Doku, Klopp hinted there could be more arrivals before the August 31 deadline day.
Speaking after Sunday’s 1-1 pre-season draw with Athletic Bilbao, the German said: “I am very happy with the squad, but it doesn’t mean that we don’t look at the market.
“We have a big squad and there might be something happening until the end of the transfer window, but I cannot say anything about that at the moment.”
