That triggered yet more trouble in the latest in a series of unsavoury events for French football.
Metz keeper Alexandre Oukidja was furious with PSG star Mbappe for what he saw as over-the-top celebrations as the visitors grabbed a late 2-1 victory.
Tempers had already reached boiling point in the Ligue 1 clash as the game neared its chaotic conclusion.
Metz skipper Dylan Bronn found himself sent off after picking up a second yellow in the 91st minute.
His manager Frederic Antonetti then saw red himself after protesting furiously against the decision.
With the scores level at 1-1, Metz fans thought they should have had a freekick after Presnel Kimpembe challenged Nicolas de Preville.

But the ref saw nothing wrong and PSG swept downfield before Neymar played a sumptuous through-ball for Hakimi to bury a left-footed winner.
That sparked wild celebrations for the visitors, which enraged Oukidja as he let fly at Mbappe with a volley of angry words.
Charging at the PSG players, the Metz keeper appears to have been shoved by Neymar before springing to his feet to rail at Mbappe.
Among the melee, a group of Metz fans then made it onto the pitch but they were intercepted by stewards before they could do any damage.
The tumultuous scenes occurred on a troubling night for French football as Marseille and Angers fans brawled in the stands following their 0-0 draw.
The carnage is just the latest in a series of ugly incidents after a Bordeaux fan bus was attacked, Lille and Lens fans brawled, and Nice supporters attacked Marseille players on the pitch.

Stewards and the stadium announcer tried desperately to calm the situation but were pushed aside by the raging mob.
Supporters reportedly let off flares and firecrackers at each other during the Ligue 1 game, which saw Marseille in second draw with Angers in third.
Reports in France even suggest Marseille raised concerns before kick-off that it would be too easy for fans to access the pitch at Stade Raymond Kopa.
And any concerns appeared well placed as the chaotic scenes unfolded.
The latest brawl comes in the wake of crowd trouble at a host of Ligue 1 clubs.

Lens vs Lille had to be stopped as the home side’s ultras stormed the pitch, while one Lille fan faces a year in prison and £13,000 fine after allegedly masturbating at the hosts.
At least 16 Bordeaux fans were injured after their bus was reportedly ambushed by Montpellier fans en route to their league clash.
And last month Marseille were involved in another night of violence after their league clash with Nice had to be stopped after rioting broke out on the pitch.
The match had to be abandoned as Nice fans reacted furiously when Marseille’s Dimitri Payet lobbed a bottle thrown at him back at the home fans.
What followed was a huge melee with Marseille coach Pablo Hernandez even punching a Nice fan to the ground.

So more action seems certain to follow another shocking night.

Around 100 Bordeaux fans were at tonight’s match – as Samuel Kalu bagged their late equaliser in a 3-3 draw.
But the evening was ruined for many before kick-off.
A Bordeaux supporters coach was ‘ambushed’ – with glass debris causing what were described by French reports as ‘light injuries’.

    PERSONAL PROBLEMS
Despite arriving to the country in August, Messi, his wife Antonela and their three children, are yet to find a permanent residence to live in.
They are currently staying at the Royal Monceau, a five-star hotel which is said to be setting him back a whopping £17,000-A-NIGHT.
The six-time Ballon d’Or winner had been keen to rent a £41m castle just outside of Paris.
But he pulled out of his dream home – dubbed the ‘Pink Palace’ – after the owner demanded an extra £8.5k per month upon finding out Messi was interested.

And his Argentine compatriot and team-mate Angel Di Maria has revealed how Messi cannot escape his adoring fans due to living in the hotel.
He said: “When Leo comes to dinner, there are always motorbikes or cars nearby.
“The people here are very respectful and if we go out they’ll leave you alone.
“Now, with Leo, we have nowhere to go.”
His living situation is a far cry to his previous quiet life in Barcelona, where his swanky pad in Bellamar had a no-fly zone above his property.

    NOT THE MAIN MAN
Messi was undoubtedly the top dog in Catalonia, but that isn’t the case in Paris.
His former Barca team-mate Neymar and World Cup winner Kylian Mbappe are the top two players at the club.
And this was highlighted when the duo stayed on the pitch against Lyon when looking for a winner, while Messi was substituted for right-back Achraf Hakimi.
Former PSG ace Jerome Rothen criticised Pochettino for taking him off as Messi was hauled off on his home debut without making an impact.

    INJURY
But one explanation that Messi was hooked could be due to him possibly being injured.
Though Pochettino declared that he was substituted for tactical reasons, and that Messi was ‘okay’ as he walked to the dugout.
However on Tuesday, PSG announced that the 2021 Copa America champion has suffered a bone contusion on his left knee.
He is now a doubt to face Metz on Wednesday as the club await the results from his MRI scan.

“I wanted to stay at Barca and it was the plan… and today I’ve to say goodbye after my entire life here.”
Messi also stated: “I’m really sad because I didn’t want to leave this club. I love Barcelona and I wanted to stay, my contract was ready.
“I did everything in my possibility to stay.”

And he has thrived since re-joining the Red Devils having banged in four goals from three games in all competitions.

Lille fan facing year in prison and £13,000 fine after ‘masturbating in front of Lens fans’ during heated derby clash

So much so the Ligue 1 club’s ultras invaded the pitch and marched towards the travelling Lille fans in a shameful act of intimidation, delaying the start of the second half.
Saturday’s game saw six injured in total, including a riot police officer who was trying to keep the peace.
And one Lille supporter is potentially facing prison time.
French newspaper La Voix du Nord are reporting that a Lille supporter masturbated in front of the home crowd, an offence punishable with a year in prison and a £13,000 fine.
The unidentified supporter was pictured in the act, showing his genitalia to the Trannin stand occupied by Lens supporters, including families.
Other investigations are also underway in the aftermath of the crowd trouble.

The throwing of objects as well a Nazi salute coming from the away end is also being investigated.
As a result of the confrontations, the LFP – disciplinary committee – have handed Lens a two-game precautionary stadium ban.
Both Lens’ fixtures against Strasbourg and Reims will be played behind closed doors.
And a final decision on the matter will be made on Wednesday, October 6.

He said: “I think we all know we have great players in this 35-man squad. Only 11 can play, we can’t play more.
