Meanwhile Argentine ace Messi linked up with Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer to end his love affair at Barcelona.
In September, Ronaldo was well ahead of the 35-year-old in shirt sales having amassed £187.1million – nearly double Messi’s £103.8m.

PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN must sell Neymar by Friday or see his £600,000-a-week contract extended to 2027, according to reports.The Brazilian penned a new deal in May last year, although PSG chiefs are now no longer sure that they want to move forward with the former Barcelona star.

Club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi recently claimed that the French champions would be moving away from a big-money signings model, instead aiming to build their team around young French talent.
This has left Neymar’s future in doubt, with the 30-year-old and his representatives reportedly miffed at Al-Khelaifi’s noncommittal response when asked about his side’s No10.
The world’s most expensive player is under contract until 2026, although it’s claimed that a clause in the deal will trigger an extra year on July 1.
That would mean PSG are committed to paying him another year of his £31.2m salary, until he was 35.
According to Sky Sports, PSG are looking for a buyer to take Neymar off their hands.
His £600k-a-week wages are putting potential suitors off, however.
A previous report by L’Equipe claimed that Newcastle are interested in making an ambitious move for the Selecao superstar.
Although they add that Neymar is dead against joining the Toon.

MARSEILLE are set to launch a £26million bid to sign Arsenal defender William Saliba, according to reports.Saliba impressed on loan at Stade Velodrome last season, helping Jorge Sampaoli’s side finish second in Ligue 1.

Newcastle ‘launch fresh £39m Sven Botman transfer bid and Lille hope defender accepts despite holding out for AC Milan’

NEWCASTLE UNITED’S pursuit of Sven Botman has taken yet another turn following a fresh bid of £39million, according to reports. Botman, 22, has been a long-term target for Newcastle as they seek defensive upgrades to help them push into the top half of the Premier League.

The Magpies failed to get their man in January, with Lille playing hardball over the deal at the time.
However, now the Ligue 1 side are far more relaxed over the costing of a deal, but Botman remains the elusive party to convince, with the defender desperate to instead join Italian giants AC Milan.
According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Lille have accepted a bid of £39million including add-ons for the Dutchman from Newcastle and are encouraging Botman to agree personal terms.
But the pull of Champions League football, competing for trophies immediately, and playing for a major club such as Milan continues to dominate the heart of Botman.

Newcastle have already completed two signings during the current window; Matt Targett from Aston Villa and Nick Pope from Burnley.
But the slow movement on deals for Hugo Ekitike and Botman have left them ‘exasperated’ according to one report.
Newcastle were taken over by a Saudi-backed Public Investment Fund in the Autumn of last year, establishing them as the single richest club in the world in terms of owner financing.
This of course means the club have a far greater budget than some of Europe’s biggest teams on the continent who cannot boast the financial power of the Premier League.
