Hugo Ekitike opens up on Newcastle transfer snub but gives Toon hope for future move after signing for PSG

NEWCASTLE target Hugo Ekitike has spoken out on his decision to join PSG over the Premier League side, revealing how close he was to signing for Eddie Howe.The Magpies came very close to landing the striker, even agreeing a fee of £36million with French side Reims early last month.

However, the 20 year-old snubbed St James’ Park in favour of a loan move to the Ligue 1 giants.
In an interview with Le Parisien, Ekitike revealed the role PSG advisor Luis Campos played in his final decision.
The youngster said: “I had an appointment with Luis which meant a lot to me. It was not so long ago. We talked a lot, he is someone I value a lot.
“I wanted to come to PSG before this exchange, but he convinced me even more.”

According to Reims sources, Eddie Howe proposed a similar deal, consisting of a two-year loan worth £4m and a £26m obligation to buy in 2024.
Unfortunately for Magpies fans, the Frenchman had already made his mind up.

Mukiele is a versatile defender, and can play both right-back and centre-back.
Speaking after putting pen to paper with the French giants, Mukiele said it was a “dream” to be heading back to Paris after a four-year spell with Leipzig.
The defender told PSG’s official website: “Playing for your hometown team is obviously a dream.
“I grew up in the Paris region, in Montreuil to be more specific, so playing for Paris is a massive honour for me, for my friends and for my family, and I’m really happy to have worked so hard to be here today.”
And Mukiele is “sure” he made the right choice to join PSG – despite having others from other clubs on the table.
When asked about interest from elsewhere, he said: “When I found out that Paris were interested in me and that they wanted me to come here, I obviously gave it some thought because it was really important.
“This is a huge step in my career. It’s not a choice to be taken lightly, but I think and I’m sure that I made the right one.” More
