PSG plan Lionel Messi transfer in case Kylian Mbappe quits this summer after failing to tie him down to new contract

PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN are plotting a move for Lionel Messi in case Kylian Mbappe leaves in the summer, according to reports.
Talks about a new deal with the French champions’ star striker are said to be stalling with his contract set to expire in 2022.

Reports in Spain suggest they will use him to replace Kylian Mbappe

And PSG are keen to sign Messi to keep their superstar numbers up, according to Sport.
Its front page on Wednesday read: “PSG want Barcelona star [Messi] in case the French striker [Mbappe] leaves this summer.”
It goes on to add: “The Parisian team plans to press for the signing of Leo after the hesitance of Mbappe to renew.
“The French side say they can only keep two big stars in their squad in line with financial fair play.”

There has been little recent progress in talks between Mbappe and PSG with reports in December suggesting the Champions League runners-up might not be able to afford his wage demands.
On Tuesday it emerged Barca are scared stiff of Messi leaving this summer.
And PSG are said to be ‘lurking like vultures’ with the Argentine able to sign pre-contract agreements with non-Spanish clubs this month.
Messi’s Barca contract expires on June 30 this year.

And any mention of his potential exit causes ‘earthquakes’ among Nou Camp chiefs, according to Sport.
On Monday, PSG stirred the pot again confirming Messi is on their ‘transfer shortlist’.
Sporting director Leonardo admitted they will try to sign the Argentine superstar after he told cash-strapped Barca he wanted to quit last summer.
Leonardo told France Football: “Great players like Messi will always be on PSG’s shortlist, but now isn’t the time to talk or dream about this.
“We are sitting at the table following this matter closely.
“Four months in football is an eternity, especially in this day and age, but our chair is reserved at the table.”
PSG will face competition from City who have made no secret of their desire to reunite Messi with former boss Pep Guardiola at the Etihad after failing to do so in the summer.
Messi was sent off for the first time ever in his club career on Sunday after lashing out at Athletic Bilbao’s Asier Villalibre in the dying seconds of Barca’s Super Cup defeat.
The Argentine maestro was hit with two-game ban which Barca intend to appeal, even though he faced the threat of sitting in the sidelines for 12 matches.

Messi’s Barca contract expires on June 30 this year.
And any mention of his potential exit causes ‘earthquakes’ among Nou Camp chiefs, according to Sport.
On Monday, French giants PSG stirred the pot again confirming Messi is on their ‘transfer shortlist’.
Sporting director Leonardo admitted the club will try to sign Argentine superstar after he told the cash-strapped club he wanted to quit last summer.

A move to Paris could see Messi reunite with Brazilian Neymar after the pair formed a dynamic forward line with Uruguayan Luis Suarez back in their Barca days.

Spanish paper AS also focussed on the Argentine

And the appointment of Messi’s compatriot Mauricio Pochettino as PSG’s boss could help lure him to the Parc des Princes.
In December, Neymar said: “What I want most is to be with him on the pitch again.
“He could be in my place, he has no problem. I want to play with him and I’m sure next year we will do it.”
Ex-Spurs boss Poch took over at the start of January after Thomas Tuchel was brutally axed on Christmas Eve.
He hinted the door was open for Messi after saying ‘any big player in the world is always welcome in PSG’.
But PSG will face competition from City who have made no secret of their desire to reunite Messi with former boss Pep Guardiola at the Etihad after failing to do so in the summer.

And the Argentine maestro will have plenty of time to consider his future as he is facing up to a TWLEVE-MATCH ban with Spanish media calling for Messi to apologise for his violent conduct.

Villas-Boas lets slip Diego Costa’s staggering wage demands as Marseille boss rules out transfer for ex-Chelsea striker

ANDRE VILLA-BOAS has revealed Diego Costa’s huge wage demands have knocked Marseille out of the race to sign him.
The Spain striker is a free agent after Atletico Madrid terminated his contract this month with immediate effect – six months ahead of schedule.

SunSport exclusively revealed Wolves are planning a shock move for the 32-year-old this month.
Their main striker Raul Jimenez is out long-term after he fractured his skull against Arsenal.
And Nuno Espirito’s side fancy the former Chelsea ace as a replacement.
However, the controversial star has also been linked with a switch to French giants Marseille.

Now their manager Villa-Boas has confirmed he has been contacted about the possibility of signing Costa.
And even though he admitted he would love to sign him, the ex-Chelsea boss revealed his salary demands of over £14million-a-year were simply too much.
AVB said: “First of all, Diego Costa earns 16 million [euros] gross every year, it’s the first thing that we should recognise.
“I received a WhatsApp message from an unknown number telling me that Diego Costa wanted to come to OM. I thought it was a joke.”

He added: “He’s one of the best strikers in the world, [but we are] going to look for something else. We cannot pay this salary.”
Costa is well known by Premier League fans, having spent three seasons at Chelsea.
The Spainiard scored 59 goals in 120 games while winning two Premier League titles under Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte.
Before his Stamford Bridge switch, Costa scored 36 goals in one season as Atletico won LaLiga in 2014.
The volatile striker returned to his old club in 2017 but struggled to replicate his old form for Diego Simeone with just 19 goals in 81 games.

Man Utd flop Memphis Depay says he and Lyon pal Houssem Aouar are targeting ‘one of the top three clubs in the world’

LYON forward Memphis Depay is targeting a move to one of the ‘top three clubs in the world’.
And the Manchester United flop has revealed team-mate Houssem Aouar has similar ambitions for a mega move at the end of the season.

Depay has revitalised his career at Lyon after struggling to justify the hype that surrounded his arrival at Old Trafford in 2015.
He was wanted by Barcelona last summer while Aouar continues to be linked with Arsenal.
And Depay is confident he and Aouar will take their games to the next level if they move on.
He told Canal+: “We know we play for a very big club but we want to go to one of the top three clubs in the world.

“Then you will see Houssem, he will get 10 times better. For me, it’s the same.”
A free transfer beckons for Depay, who is out of contract at the end of the season.

The best players of 2020, according to quantitative analysis from Carteret
Barcelona appear to be his most likely destination if former national team boss Ronald Koeman remains in charge at the Nou Camp.
Depay is a major part of Rudi Garcia’s exciting Lyon team hunting a first Ligue 1 crown since 2008.

And the Dutchman is eager to depart with a bang.
He said: “It would mean everything to me to win the Ligue 1 title with Houssem Aouar, the team and the president.”
Depay has 16 goal contributions in 20 appearances this season to take his total for Lyon to 113 in 158 since joining from United in 2017.
It is a far cry from his underwhelming return of seven goals and six assists in 18 months at Old Trafford following a £25million switch from PSV Eindhoven.

He moved to Lyon in 2017 just as academy graduate Aouar was beginning to make his mark on the first team.
And the Frenchman will be gutted if he and Depay go their separate ways at the end of the season.
He said: “If this is the last season that I play with Memphis, of course I would be sad because he is a great player and I take enormous pleasure in playing with him.”
Arsenal are eager to sign a creative midfielder and reportedly fancy long-term target Aouar.

Gunners chief Edu admitted the club are in dire need of a spark in the middle ahead of Mesut Ozil’s exit to Fenerbahce.
Aouar is a 4/1 shot with the bookies to join the Gunners in this month’s transfer window.
The 22-year-old has three goals and three assists in 16 appearances for Lyon this season.

PSG ‘not giving up’ on Dele Alli transfer as Jose Mourinho leaves England ace out of Tottenham squad again

According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, PSG ‘will not give up on this deal’.
The journalist claims that Alli, 24, is ‘pushing’ to complete the move to France.
Alli has fallen out of favour under the management of Jose Mourinho at Spurs.
The England ace has made just four appearances in the Premier League this season.

He shared a snap of himself looking fed up after he sat out of the 1-1 draw with Fulham.
And Alli was left out of the squad for this weekend’s trip to Sheffield United.
Glenn Hoddle has claimed that Alli needs showdown talks with Mourinho to discuss his future.
Meanwhile, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink insisted the manager is making an example out of him.

Mauricio Pochettino makes Dele Alli his ‘main transfer target’ as new PSG boss steps up loan chase

TOTTENHAM and Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly set to discuss a loan move for Dele Alli in the coming days.

Jose Mourinho left Dele, 24, on the bench for Spurs’ recent 1-1 draw with Fulham.
After which, the player looked glum on Instagram having made just four league appearances all season.
According to The Guardian, he is keen for a change of scenery in the final months of the season.
And a link-up with old Spurs supremo Pochettino could reignite Dele’s chances of making England’s European Championship squad.

But Tottenham are said to be against the idea of a loan exit, given their impending fixture mayhem as they compete on several fronts.
Talks are reportedly set to continue in the coming days.

SunSport stated last month that Dele is seen as a potentially vital asset in PSG’s assault on Ligue 1 and the Champions League.

Tottenham legend Glenn Hoddle believes the midfielder must make a decision this month, as to whether he is happy to remain patient in the hope of an eventual opening in the starting line-up.
The 63-year-old told SunSport: “I can’t see him getting in at the moment, because they’re winning.
“He’s only being used in Europa football and the League Cup.

He’s going to have to wait for an injury, then he’s got to make a big impact on Jose.
    Glenn Hoddle

“He’s not going to get in unless there’s an injury or a lack of form. The lack of form goes out the window because there’s a settled team there.
“He’s going to have to wait for an injury, then he’s got to make a big impact on Jose to play. I’m talking about playing week in, week out, and he needs that.
“If he feels he can’t do that, he needs to communicate that to the manager, and if he sees it that way as well, a loan deal could be possible.”
