      BBC F1 commentator ‘sacked by Formula E for alleged inappropriate touching as inquiry is launched’

      A LEADING voice on BBC’s Formula One coverage has been dismissed from his commentary role on Formula E for alleged inappropriate touching.Jack Nicholls has deleted his social media accounts and stood down from Radio 5 Live’s coverage of last weekend’s Monaco Grand Prix following the allegations.

      Now an inquiry has been launched after he was accused of inappropriate touching.
      One of the three allegations is understood to relate to a younger member of staff who was in a relationship with Nicholls, according to The Telegraph.
      That was a breach of Formula E guidelines.
      All of the allegations, which emerged as he was preparing to broadcast on Radio 5 Live, were raised within Formula E, the all-electric motor racing series, and caught BBC’s F1 team unaware.

      Rather than the individual believed to have been affected, two of the complaints were said to have been made by witnesses instead.
      A Formula E statement read: “Formula E can confirm that an investigation was carried out in response to complaints of inappropriate behaviour received about Jack Nicholls.
      “Following this investigation, Jack Nicholls’s contract to provide race commentary was terminated.”
      Nicholls has now released his own statement, saying: “Although disappointed with the decision, I respect it and accept why it was taken.

      “I want to take full responsibility for what I did and apologise unreservedly for a couple of isolated incidents that has made those concerned feel uncomfortable.
      “I never meant any harm and I am committed to making amends and to be more mindful of my behaviour in future.”
      Nicholls currently still remains at the BBC as a freelancer.
      The Beeb have not received any complaints of Nicholls’ conduct.
      Nicholls has been a regular on BBC since 2016 and often works as part of a team that includes ex-F1 driver Jolyon Palmer and Jennie Gow.  More

      Now Ticktum, 23, has had another pop by blasting Dennis as “pathetic and childish” ahead of this weekend’s Berlin E-Prix.
      The Formula E whiz said: “It was an honest mistake.
      “I made the effort to go and see various members of the team and apologise.
      “I do feel bad when I make a mistake like that.

      “But the thing that he put on Instagram and the amount of time he took to edit it and make a deal of it was just a bit pathetic.”
      Ticktum continued: “I don’t know if he’s got a personal issue with me.
      “He can be a likeable guy but I don’t understand why he blew that so out of proportion.
      “I don’t know if he sees me as a threat but I don’t see any other drivers posting crappy stuff on Instagram like that.

      The Italian called Formula E the “hardest thing” he has ever done and Jaguar driver Evans – who won the last race in Jakarta – says too many drivers are guilty of underestimating the championship.

      McLAREN’S decision to join Formula E could prove to be a masterstroke — both on the track and in the boardroom.The legendary Formula One team confirmed last week that they will join the series next season in time for the Gen3 era — the third generation of the all-electric racing car that promises to give the championship a boost.

      Gen3 is said to be the quickest electric racing car in the world, with a top speed of more than 200mph.
      Now, I’ve always been a supporter of FE since its debut in 2014. It is not F1, neither does it want to be F1. It is a world championship event in its own right.
      I can see the benefit of manufacturers competing in the environmentally-friendly series — and, subsequently, it has attracted big sponsors, too.
      Plus, I can also appreciate the excitement of pop-up events in city centres, where it is possible to watch qualifying, go for a pint in a pub and then return to watch the race.

      But McLaren’s entry to FE has caused a stir in F1 circles, with some suggesting the team are spreading themselves too thinly.
      As well as F1 and FE, McLaren are also involved in the IndyCar series in the US and Extreme E — the electric off-road championship.
      Granted, that is a lot of championships at a considerable cost, especially when they are not yet regular-enough winners in F1 to start taking a breather.

      And therefore, it seems very sensible they would join FE, especially when you consider how they are doing it — by taking over current champions, Mercedes, who are leaving at the end of the season.
      Inheriting the team that heads the field would seem to be much smarter than starting from scratch, as others have.
      We do not know yet who will be driving but Ian James, current boss of the Mercedes-EQ FE team, will be staying — another wise move by McLaren.
      In taking a step into FE as a front-running outfit, McLaren will be hoping that translates to success on the track.
      But more importantly, perhaps, is the benefit that being in FE will bring to their road cars.
      McLaren want to use that FE knowledge for their supercar production line — which makes perfect sense.
      Others may turn their noses up and make jokes about McLaren sticking to racing petrol engines rather than milk floats.
      But I think the move is a good one because, like it or not, we are all going to be driving electric cars rather soon.

      THERE was a victory for Team BRIT at Snetterton — with Chris Overend and James Whitley winning the second race on Sunday in the Britcar Trophy.

      Formula 1 giants McLaren to join Formula E next season after buying out Mercedes

      MCLAREN have announced they will join Formula E next season after agreeing to buy out Mercedes. The British team have been considering joining the the all-electric championship following their decision to expand into the Extreme E series this year.

      And after German manufacturer Mercedes announced last year they would be joining Audi and BMW in leaving Formula E , the Surrey-based team have decided to step in.
      McLaren CEO Zak Brown said: “McLaren Racing always seeks to compete against the best and on the leading edge of technology, providing our fans, partners and people with new ways to be excited, entertained and inspired. 
      “Formula E, like all our racing series, fulfils all those criteria.
      “It is also satisfying to provide a home for the class-leading Formula E team that Mercedes has built, which will become a fully-fledged part of the McLaren Racing family.
      “While run separately to our F1 and IndyCar teams, Formula E complements and builds out our EV racing programme alongside Extreme E.”

      Formula E driver Oliver Rowland looking to kickstart his season at this weekend’s Berlin EPrix

      OLIVER ROWLAND is aiming to climb to the top of Formula E’s strong driver line-up by kick-starting his season at the Berlin EPrix. The Barnsley-born driver heads into this weekend’s double header with just four points after struggling since signing for Mahindra Racing this season.

      STOFFEL VANDOORNE is using last season’s Formula E heartbreak to fuel a championship charge. The Mercedes driver stormed to the top of the driver standings after picking up his first win of the season at the Monaco EPrix last week.

      “We are almost half way so there is still a long way to go and you have seen in Formula E things can change very quickly and turn around quite drastically.
      “I am not really focussing on the Championship lead, I am just taking it race by race which I have been doing since the start of the year and the key thing is to be consistent.
      “As long as I keep doing that job I know I will be able to score points and that is the main focus at the moment and we will see where we end up a bit later.” 
      Despite Vandoorne’s upturn in form, defending champion and teammate De Vries has struggled so far this season.

      After winning the first race of the season in Diriyah, the Dutch driver has scored just one point in the last three races. 
      But Vandoorne is confident De Vries will bounce back just in a similar way he has this season. 
      The 30-year-old added: “From Nick’s side I think he is just going through a rough patch which is easy to go through in Formula E. 
      “If you’re not putting all the little pieces together you can quickly tumble down the order. 
      “Nick has got the speed and everything he needs to be fighting at the right again.
      “ I am convinced he will turn things around and strike back in his own way very soon.”

      FORMULA E believe they have opened the door to the “future’s future” after unveiling their new Gen3 car. The Gen3 will be introduced for Season 9 of the series and promises to be the fastest, lightest and most efficient electric racing car ever built.
