Four stars Chelsea could sign in transfer from sister club Strasbourg – including PSG Champions League hero’s brother

CHELSEA owners Todd Boehly and his BlueCo consortium are no stranger to a loophole in the world of football, and their acquisition of RC Strasbourg might be one of their smartest business moves yet.The Ligue 1 side are having a campaign to remember as they sit seventh, just four points short of SECOND place and still battling in the hunt for Champions League football next season.Brazilian midfielder Andrey Santos is thriving on loan for StrasbourgCredit: GettyKeeper Djordje Petrovic is also shining in his stint at the Ligue 1 sideCredit: AFPA matter of weeks ago I travelled to Eastern France to watch the team in person in their 2-2 draw vs INEOS-owned OGC Nice, and I was pretty blown away by the quality of some of their players, not least those on loan from Chelsea, Andrey Santos and Djordje Petrovic.Their fans are rightly concerned that any major talent they produce or buy will be sniffed around by the Stamford Bridge outfit and lured into the heart of South West London in a transaction similar to when I move money from my current account to my savings. It’s no secret that Chelsea have spent obscene amounts of money in recent windows, but many fans will tell you that there are still problem positions in Enzo Maresca’s side.Nicolas Jackson is good, but there are concerns over his ability to be a Premier League winning number nine. READ MORE CHELSEA NEWSWesley Fofana is a (sometimes) walking injury concern, and it remains to be seen if Reece James can keep his recurring injuries away for good this time. So, which players from Strasbourg will the BlueCo ownership no doubt be keeping an eye on, who could be moving to London sooner than you think?1) Emanuel EmeghaAged 22, Striker. Market Value: £17mEmanuel Emegha has great stats and the all-round game to matchCredit: AFPBEST ONLINE CASINOS – TOP SITES IN THE UKHe dons the number 10 shirt as a striker, but this guy is a serious number nine. Most read in FootballThe Dutch forward joined RCSA in 2023 in a four-year deal worth slightly over £11m, and has scored 21 goals in 52 games since his arrival. How Enzo Maresca can transform Chelsea to challenge for Premier League titleThat said, this campaign he’s got 14 goals and 3 assists in 26 league matches, and impressed me with his all-round play in their game vs Nice. One of the criticisms of Jackson this season has been his threat inside the box, the Senegalese striker is great in build up and has shown technical ability on the ball, but doesn’t pose a huge threat inside the box or in the air.Emegha provides exactly that.At 6’5 feet tall, he is a danger in the air and has been clinical when he gets the chance to shoot too, I sat and watched on as he shrugged off Nice’s Moises Bombito before calmly dispatching the ball at the near post into the back of the net.He may not be the superstar name of Viktor Gyokeres or be Premier League proven like Liam Delap, but he is certainly one to keep an eye on.Expect plenty of people to be talking about him for a big move soon, especially if Strasbourg do end up playing in Europe next year.2) Guela DoueAged 22, Right back/Centre Back. Market Value: £10.1mWhen speaking to Strasbourg fans, Guela Doue was one name that kept cropping up over and over again. His brother is one of the most exciting talents in world football right now, lighting up the Champions League and Ligue 1 this season with PSG – Desire Doue if you haven’t yet put 2+2 together.Guela is the older of the two, and is far less flashy on the pitch, rather establishing himself as one of the French top flight’s best full-backs this season.Guela Doue is a steady performer who slots in perfectlyCredit: GettyAs previously mentioned, Reece James fitness concerns have had Chelsea fans at times calling for a new right-back.However, what makes Doue such a good fit is the style of how he plays for Strasbourg.Against Nice he was very solid defensively, playing as a right sided centre back and allowing the left-sided defender to push much further up the pitch, which for Liam Rosenior’s side is familiar face Diego Moreira, but in Chelsea’s case would be Marc Cucurella. When James is fit, there is no doubt he is Chelsea’s starting right-back, but Guela Doue would be a more than capable deputy for him and would allow Reece to be rested somewhat with the Blues hoping to be competing on all fronts next season. The stumbling block for this move however, could be Josh Acheampong.Chelsea’s Cobham academy has almost certainly produced another gem in him, and most fans will hope that he can go onto be James’ deputy himself.3) Dilane BakwaAged 22, Right wing, Market Value £15.2mI know what you’re thinking, Chelsea aren’t short of right-wingers.Noni Madueke and Pedro Neto have both joined the club in recent seasons, and they have a supposed generational talent joining in the summer in the form of Willian Estevao.Dilane Bakwa has similarities to Noni Madueke but needs time to developCredit: AFPSo I’m not saying the Blues need to sign him immediately, I’m just saying he is one to keep an eye on.Ligue 1 has served as something of a proving ground for tricky and exciting wingers this season such as Bradley Barcola, Desire Doue, Ousmane Dembele, Rayan Cherki and this man, Dilane Bakwa.Outside of Santos and Petrovic, the French forward has been the club’s best player for me this campaign, and has potential to be lighting up the Champions League sooner than you may expect. He is relatively similar stylistically to Madueke, with his stop-start dribbling causing chaos for defenders and his ability to create chances and shots reminiscent of Chelsea’s current number 11.With five goals and eight assists in 27 games so far this season he has shown that he possesses the talent to be one of the best wide players in the division, but may just need a bit more time to really compound those numbers next year.He has also played on the left and at times centrally for Strasbourg, which is something Maresca will like, but he may need to refine his end product before making a move away from France.4) Valentin BarcoAged 20, Left back/Central midfield, Market Value £6mBrighton thought they had hit the jackpot once again with their ridiculously good scouting methods when they picked up Valentin Barco from Boca Juniors. He joined the Seagulls in 2024, but was quickly loaned out to Sevilla in a move that didn’t really work out for him, before being loaned to Strasbourg, who have an obligation to buy him after his spell in France.Valentin Barco plays a role like that of Chelsea’s Marc CucurellaCredit: GettyHe plays primarily as a left back, but this season under Rosenior has been inverting into midfield in a similar mould to how Cucurella does at Chelsea – and he has been sensational at doing so.He’s got two assists in 11 games so far, but lately had his gaffer raving about him after a stunning performance vs Lyon in which he was rewarded with three days off having become a father for the first time ahead of the match. With Cucurella being one of the best left-backs in Europe as it stands, it is unlikely that Barco would come in and displace him, but Chelsea have no real back-up for the curly headed Spaniard either – something that could become a problem should the Blues be competing on all fronts in the next few seasons.Read More on The SunIn his absence this season, we’ve seen the likes of Levi Colwill, Reece James and Malo Gusto fill in there – all experiments that haven’t exactly been ideal.  For now, it doesn’t make sense to take Valentin out of an environment where he is doing so well, but if Cucurella’s form drops or he faces an injury lay-off, don’t be surprised to hear Barco’s name branded about Stamford Bridge before long.  More

Luton Town star sees five-match ban overturned in unusual circumstances as red card ‘does him a favour’

LUTON TOWN midfielder Liam Walsh avoided a five-match ban after a straight red card seemingly HELPED him avoid a stint on the sidelines.Walsh, 27, was shown a straight red for violent conduct during Luton’s 1-0 win over Coventry City at the weekend.Luton Town’s Liam Walsh has escaped a five-match banCredit: PAWalsh was shown a straight red card during Luton Town’s 1-0 win over Coventry CityCredit: SkySportsWalsh (wearing no.20) was shown red for a shove on Luis BinksCredit: SkySportsHaving already been booked earlier in the game, Walsh shoved Coventry defender Luis Binks in the 68th minute of the Championship clash.Referee Oliver Langford appeared to deem the push to be an act of violence and instead of showing Walsh a second yellow, he opted to show a straight red. That decision meant that Luton were able to appeal the red – something that wouldn’t have been an option for two yellow cards. The Hatters’ appeal was successful, over-turning what would have been a five-match ban for Walsh following his two previous red cards earlier in the campaign.READ MORE IN FOOTBALLHad referee Langford issued Walsh a second yellow card then he would have been sent off without the ability to appeal the decision and would have subsequently received a one-match ban. We live INSIDE Luton Town’s famous entrance – footballs smash our windows but there are some surprising perks”So sending off was right, and now because of the poor decision by the ref, he now gets to play and not face the 1 game suspension he should have regardless.”A third posted: “Irony is the incompetent ref has done Walsh a favour by incorrectly giving him a red rather than correctly a (non overturnable) second yellow”.And a fourth even labelled the PGMOL and the FA as “Incompetent fools”. Three key decisions Ruben Amorim must get right for Man Utd vs Bilbao including who stops Williams and Mainoo conundrum

MANCHESTER UNITED have one last chance to give the fans something to cheer about by winning the Europa League this season. But before the Red Devils start thinking about the final, they must first overcome favourites Athletic Bilbao in the semis.Ruben Amorim’s side are eyeing the Europa League titleCredit: GettyMan Utd need to find a way to stop Nico WilliamsCredit: RexThere can be no underestimating the importance of both legs, or the size of the task Ruben Amorim’s side face. With more than seven days’ rest after a weekend off, Bilbao are dreaming of the chance to play the final in their own backyard on May 21.And manager Ernesto Valverde revealed his side are “confident” about ending United’s hopes of securing Champions League football next season.United may feel their name is on the Europa League trophy already after staging an incredible comeback win to knock out Lyon in the quarter-finals.READ MORE FOOTBALL NEWSThe stakes are so high going into the first semi-final at San Mames on Thursday night, with United having only won 17 out of 57 games against Spanish opposition since 2000.And while Amorim’s sorry lot somehow remain the only unbeaten side in Europe, the club’s dismal away record in recent years leaves little hope.A win over two legs could set up a final against Tottenham, who face Bodo Glimt in the other semi. But first, SunSport takes a look at the three key decisions that Amorim must make right against Bilbao. Most read in Europa LeagueJoin SUN CLUB for the Man Utd Files every Thursday plusin-depth coverage and exclusives from Old TraffordIsolating Nico WilliamsIt’s fair to say that the name Nico Williams induces fear into even the bravest of Man Utd fans. The Old Trafford faithful thought they were in luck when reports claimed that the Spanish wonder was out injured with a groin issue.Gary Neville reveals fear with Liverpool to become most successful English team everBut the 22-year-old – who has scored five goals in the Europa League this season – has been cleared to play on Thursday.Williams’ biggest threat is his pace and ability to attack space when breaking through the lines. So Valverde typically wants his 4-2-3-1 team to look for opportunities to get Williams isolated and in 1v1 situations against his full-back.As Amorim is devoted to his 3-4-2-1, he needs to find a way to avoid leaving Williams too isolated. The rest of the Bilbao attacking unit will typically be quite narrow and high. This forces the opposition to defend narrow in turn and as such Williams can be released through a diagonal ball into a 1v1 situation.Amorim needs to get his defensive starting line-up right, otherwise Williams will be able to run riot down his side of the pitch.Bilbao play narrow and high, with the intention of forcing the opposition to defend narrow, which in turn leaves space for Williams to be released in behind. With Diogo Dalot a doubt after missing the 1-1 draw at Bournemouth on Sunday, Amorim can only really count on Noussair Mazraoui to start as the right wing-back.Whoever is chosen to start up against Williams shouldn’t be left isolated in a 1v1 situation.United cannot afford to defend zonally and must have a specific plan for taking care of the threat that Williams can pose. The left winger guided Spain to glory at Euro 2024 and has been linked with a move to Arsenal this summer. These are the kinds of situations where United have to be careful and where Bilbao will look to exploit space. With no right winger, the wing-back for United has to be more aggressive in stepping out to engage the opposition wing-back. This can lead the the central defender on that side being pulled out and isolated. What about the other Williams brother?Nico’s breakthrough has overshadowed the fact that his older brother Inaki has long been one of the best attackers players at the Basque club. His situation is slightly different in that he chose to represent Ghana at international level as opposed to trying his luck with Spain. In previous seasons, Inaki has played as a No9, but this season he has played more as the right winger on the opposite side to his brother. While Nico plays further out on the left, Inaki positions himself closer to the No10 and striker. While Nico drags players out wide, Inaki will force Man Utd to defend narrow, before driving into the opposition box.Inaki Williams positions himself in a more narrow position as Bilbao are attacking as he has the pace to drive outside the defender on the right-hand sideAgain, this means that United must be really careful who starts as the left-sided centre-back.The most obvious answer would be to suggest that Amorim starts a left-footed defender – and ideally an experienced one too.It would be a natural fit for Luke Shaw, who was arguably England’s best player in the Euro final defeat to Spain. But Shaw didn’t quite look up to speed in his first start in more than 14 months at the Vitality Stadium on Sunday.Shaw – who started on the left-hand side of the back three – sent an ill-advised pass to Patrick Dorgu, which invited pressure in the build-up to Antoine Semenyo’s opener. But Shaw did eventually grow into the game and his distribution and crisp crosses into the box offer what others in his position cannot.Luke Shaw can be too aggressive in terms of coming high to win the ball in the opposition’s halfShaw can be almost too aggressive in terms of jumping high and looking to engage to win the ball back in the opposition half. Shaw is certainly, in our opinion, the correct option to deal with the threat of Inaki Williams in this game. The issue will be the lack of cover that Shaw will have if he is pulled in and then quickly outplayed as Bilbao attack forward and into space.United need Kobbie Mainoo in midfieldKobbie Mainoo’s return from injury a few weeks ago has come at a timely point in the season for United. But Amorim should avoid putting the 20-year-old back in as one of the two No10s.Mainoo thrived last season from a deeper midfield role and became a defensive staple for England after a lot of experimenting from Gareth Southgate last summer. And he needs to start alongside another holding midfielder in front of the back line against Bilbao for United to be successful. That’s because Bilbao are a high-pressing team and are brilliant at stopping their opponents from playing out of their defensive third. Here, the opposition are looking to build the attack and you can see that Bilbao are aggressive in pressing up and committing players into higher positions to press the ball. As the pass is played diagonally into the midfield, we see Bilbao immediately trigger and win the ball back close to the opposition goal. With Casemiro likely to be one of the midfielders picked in Spain, it is essential that Amorim also selects a midfielder who is comfortable taking the ball while facing his own goal while under pressure from an opposition midfielder. This is why Mainoo must be one of the two midfielders in that role for United. The English youngster is brave on the ball and willing to take passes when the game is tight around him.Bournemouth press in a similar style to Bilbao. Mainoo must come in to receive the ball and take pressure before moving the ball on and allowing United to play through the press.Kobbie Mainoo has to start in holding midfieldCredit: RexThis will allow United to be more effective in playing through the thirds and building some attacking dominance when they are in possession.Mainoo in midfield will give United an element of control that will be crucial if they are to head back to Old Trafford with a positive result.ConclusionUnited need to win this semi-final to have any semblance of success this season. The issue they have is that Bilbao are the best team left in it.Read More on The SunTheir physical strength and the way they commit to defending aggressively makes it difficult to break them down. And the threat of the Williams brothers means that you cannot afford to play too high and leave them space to attack into.Luke Shaw could be the best option to play on the left of a back threeCredit: GettyKeeping the Williams brothers quiet will go a long way to winning the semi-finalCredit: AFP More
