However, in 2006 a horror ankle injury forced the Cardiff-born starlet into early retirement.
Then in 2013, he launched his own business – selling high-end watches for over £250,000.

It has allowed Ramon and his family to enjoy a more sustained lifestyle he would have enjoyed if he continued in football.
Passion project
Speaking to SunSport from his home in Dubai, Calliste revealed: “Watches were always a passion for me.
“I learned the trade quite quickly, got obsessed with Rolex references, and the business has thankfully grown since then.
“We recently launched a very high-end luxury store in Mayfair, and I’m happy to say it’s doing very well.
“We sell watches, beautiful jewellery, and we have a certain amount of accessories, including Hermes bags, which is something we will expand on because they are selling very well.

“Having a Mayfair premises, with the amount of clients that walk-in from around the world and the type of clients we attract, has been amazing for business.”
Previously, Calliste told SunSport he sells watches from around £50,000-£70,000.
And he often gets a £150,000-£250,000 sale in a market where clients can make money from pieces that become collector’s items over time.
Ramon’s company is making roughly £5million-per-year, more than he might’ve had made as a professional footballer.
“It’s always a Rolex driven business, so those are the most popular.
“But there’s always the big ticket items, the Patek Philippes, the Audemars Piguets and Richard Milles that sell for mega money.”

Playing days
Calliste looks back at his football career with fondness. In 2000, he signed a contract with Manchester United alongside Sir Alex Ferguson.
Recalling that moment, he told us: “When I got to Old Trafford I met Sir Alex Ferguson, which was an incredible experience.
“Seeing everything for the first time, I went into the famous room where everyone meets him.
“It was a special, I wasn’t fazed by much when I was young, but he had the aura of a great man.”
Ramon didn’t play for the United first team, but he got his chance to train with some of their superstars.
“We didn’t always train with the first team, but sometimes we’d have five-a-side games.
“I aspired to train with them permanently, and it was amazing when I did get the opportunity.
“I trained with Rooney and Ronaldo, which was a big deal.”
Injury wrecked his career
After Ramon was released from Old Trafford, he starred for Liverpool’s reserves.
He was their leading goalscorer in the 2005-2006 season, but left for Scunthorpe for first team opportunities, after then-Wales manager John Toshack told him he needed to play more.
“It wasn’t initially what I wanted to do, but Toshack told me I needed to play competitive football if I wanted to break into the Wales first team,” he said.

“I thought, let’s do this and took a contract. Preseason I got a bad ankle injury straight away and I never really recovered from it.”
In 2009, Ramon had decided he’d had enough of football.
He had spells at Cambridge City and West London Saracens in the Middlesex County Football League, but was plagued by the dislocated ankle injury that robbed him of his dream.
Living the dream
But everything happens for a reason. Now, Calliste is happy in the Middle East. His children are thriving in a new environment, and destiny gave him a different calling.
“I feel lucky I am in a fortune position to help myself and my family,” he said.
“Dubai is a very beautiful and safe place, as well as a huge market hub. There are opportunities here and there’s lots of money here too.
“It was an all-round decision for my family and for my children who have excelled at school here.
“In comparison to where I started when I was younger, my life has changed incredibly.
“I have now built something that lasts forever. When you play football you have a certain shelf life.

But the tough-tackling midfielder was better-known for his work on TV.
He began working in as a pundit and commentator after a three-month stint in management with Stoke City, who he couldn’t save from dropping to the third tier.
His association with Sky began in 1999 alongside late journalist Brian Woolnough on Soccer Extra.
Impressing producers, he soon moved to Soccer Saturday which was hosted by the legendary Jeff Stelling.
In a new concept, he would attend live games with a TV crew and appear via a video link to give regular updates.
Fans were completely enthralled by Kamara, and his rapport with Stelling blossomed.
His excitable nature and enthusiasm for the game stood out, as well as the odd gaffe.
But it was his way of words that often drew laughter back in the TV studio.

Kamara was often the fall guy for Stelling’s quick quips.
Like water off a duck’s back, though, he would bat them off superbly, and always in good humour.
And then there were the cock-ups.
Rather than seem unprofessional, these added to the drama and fun-nature of the programme.
Take a game between Fulham and Middlebrough Kammy covered back in 2011.
David Healy had seemingly scored an equaliser for the Cottagers, only for the goal to be ruled out.
Taking his eyes off the action, Kamara missed it and joked: “I don’t really know what is happening Jeff,” as he remained confused.
Then there was that time at Fratton Park, when he somehow missed Anthony Vanden Borre’s red card with Portsmouth playing Blackburn.
It was Stelling who had to tell him the Belgium star was given his marching orders, as Kamara thought he had just been subbed off.
And even when he was called upon to deliver an update, like at Upton Park as West Ham hosted Southampton, sometimes Kamara would his cue.
Three requests for a report fell on deaf ears and a video link showed Kammy focused solely on the game in another brilliant mishap.

It made Kamara loveable, and unintentionally funny.
And it wasn’t all jokes. When he did get it right, it was a certain catchphrase that brought smiles to fans faces who watched from their sofas.
“Unbelievable Jeff!” he would scream when excited by a piece of action unravelling in front of his eyes.
It’s a sentence that the nation has adopted – often shouting it back at him in the street.
He told the Metro: “It’s great having a catchphrase. It’s great that people have accepted it in the way they have.
“There’s no antagonism towards us. And it’s a smile on their face. They all think they’re the first ones to say it, which is great, and I make them feel like they’re the first ones to say as well.

It’s unlikely that even the most optimistic West Ham fans saw this coming when the club appointed the Scotsman in December 2019 as the club are competing in a European semi-final while also sitting 7th in the Premier League table.
Have the dissenters gone quiet? You’d think so.
Now that we are at the business end of the season, we are going to find out if the West Ham squad is big enough to handle the congested fixture list.
The games are coming thick and this weekend sees West Ham host Mikel Arteta and his impressive Arsenal side.

Arsenal come into this match off the back of wins over Chelsea and Manchester United as they close in on a top-four finish and a return to the Champions League. 
So, what about the probable tactics?
West Ham aren’t afraid to not have the ball
While in the match against Chelsea there was a degree of squad rotation from West Ham as they shuffled their team with one eye on the semi-final against Eintracht Frankfurt we saw a very compact and well structured display.
There was a change of base system, we would normally expect to see West Ham play in something approaching a 4-2-3-1 system but against Chelsea it was a 3-4-3, the key thing, however, was that West Ham were comfortable to allow Chelsea to have possession while they defended in a compact unit.
This shape from West Ham when they were out of possession effectively make it difficult for Chelsea to find any space between the lines into which they could play the ball.

When Chelsea were attacking West Ham would take up a strong defensive shape with good spacing between players and no big spaces between units
This left Chelsea trying to play passes that were covered or into areas in which the ball could be contested by the West Ham defenders and midfielders.
This defensive compactness has been a feature of West Ham’s game whether they have lined up in a three man or four man defensive system.
Their work against the ball is helped, of course, by the fact that we are likely to see a midfield structure of Declan Rice and Tomas Soucek (unless Moyes is thinking a lot about Thursday) in a double pivot.
Both are extremely versatile in terms of their roles with the ability to receive and play through the thirds, make forward runs to support the attack, and hold deeper positions in order to prevent the opposition from playing through.
This is a fairly common situation that we see from West Ham with both Soucek and Rice deep as they play forward. Look out for one of the two to make runs through the centre when the ball is played out in the wide areas
Arsenal will try to pull West Ham out
When Mikel Arteta first took charge of Arsenal he was adamant that his side would play out from the back.
Given that he took over the squad build by Unai Emery, the players were not quite at the level needed to be able to do this effectively.
This led to some comedy moments and Arsenal fans were becoming more and more frustrated with their team and this very deliberate system of play.
Fast forward to today and thanks to some impressive coaching and even more impressive recruitment Arsenal are one of the few teams in the Premier League who can rival Manchester City when it comes to playing out from the back. Yeah, that’s right – Man City.
This is going to be an important part of this game with West Ham, as we have already discussed, likely to sit in a compact block and challenge Arsenal to break them down.
By playing out from the back and probably slowing down their tempo slightly we will see Arsenal try to tempt the West Ham forwards to come out and close them down.
If the West Ham players do so then spaces will be created that Arsenal can play into.
Ben White has the ball as Arsenal are playing out. He holds the ball and waits for two United players to press before dropping the ball back to the goalkeeper. This small pass though has pulled United towards the ball and created space behind the press
Arsenal are interesting in this area because they find so many different ways to build out from the back.
The likes of Takehiro Tomiyasu, when fit, and Granit Xhaka in particular are important because they can drop into the defensive line to form a line of three.
This lets the ball move across the line as Arsenal look for opportunities to play through the pressure of the opposition.
Gabriel and Ben White both have the ability to carry the ball out of defence. This can be difficult to defend against and will pull the opposition out and towards the ball
Arsenal have a huge attacking threat
If teaching Arsenal to build out from the back has been an impressive coaching achievement from Arteta it pales in comparison to the fact that he has made them dangerous in front of goal.
Their attacking threat has been hugely enhanced by the partnership that has been created on the right-hand side of the pitch by Bukayo Saka, at right-wing, and Martin Odegaard, as the right-sided central midfielder.
Those two are incredibly technical players with a real creative streak.
This has led to Arsenal’s chance creation being much better and this has been highlighted in the recent resurgence of Eddie Nketiah whose two goals against Man Utd were key to Arsenal winning that match.

With Saka able to come inside on his left-foot he often has angles to play into Odegaard and this leads to creative passing patterns from Arsenal.
The fact that Arsenal play a midfield three will mean that the double pivot in the midfield for West Ham will have to be at the top of their game to prevent them from breaking through.
The movement from Odegaard is really good as he pulls off the blind side of the midfielder to receive the ball in space. Arsenal will always tend to maintain width on the right-side as they build up through Saka
Odegaard is a creative and intelligent midfielder and he will take advantage of any lapses in concentration from the two midfield players for West Ham.
His ability to drift into space to receive the ball and then turn and attack the opposition defensive line has been incredibly important for Arsenal this season and he will have to be watched closely by the West Ham midfield.
So, how will it play out?
As we said, West Ham will sit in but then be brave on the ball when they get it.
Arsenal will do whatever they can to entice the Hammers out and then look to unleash those attacking players as soon as possible.
So much depends on what side Moyes opts for – it would be no great surprise to see Antonio, Rice and one of the other more creative attackers given the afternoon off.
Full strength West Ham going up against full strength Arsenal?
It would have to be a draw. The likely West Ham starting XI against an Arsenal side desperate for the points to keep pushing for 4th?
