Tottenham signing Alex Morgan is groundbreaking footballer, magazine pin-up, movie star and two-time World Cup winner

USA women’s footballer Alex Morgan has signed for Tottenham Hotspur Women on a sensational loan deal, and is set to light up the WSL.
In her homeland, the 31-year-old is revered for her goalscoring exploits that have helped her country win the last two Women’s World Cup tournaments.

On top of that, the Californian-native, nicknamed ‘Baby Horse’, has graced the cover of Sports Illustrated no fewer than three times – baring the flesh in their highly anticipated swimsuit edition and once going completely nude wearing just body paint.
But Morgan is more than just a pretty face, having broken down the boundaries for the women’s game.
She was the first female star to appear on a cover of the FIFA video game series.
    SHE’S MARKETABLE
Blessed with good looks, Morgan knows her commercial worth.

And she isn’t afraid to capitalise on her beauty, once walking the catwalk at New York Fashion Week.
Morgan is a magazine cover star – something she admits hopes get men turning on the TV to watch her play.
“I’ve obviously done certain things, like Sports Illustrated swimsuit, that has guys interested in me not for what I put on the field,” Morgan told espnW.
“But at the end of the day, they’re going to turn on the TV next time we have a game.”

Morgan is also said to make seven-figures in endorsement deals through companies including Nike, McDonald’s, Tampax, Chapstick, Panasonic, Nationwide, Coca-Cola, and Beats by Dre.
“I like to be authentic about who I am and what I promote.”
    FULLY MADE-UP
When Morgan steps on the pitch, she loves to look her best.
So when she appears for Spurs, don’t be surprised to see her wearing full make-up.
That’s a far stretch from her days growing up in San Dimas, where she was a self-confessed tomboy.
“I was the biggest tomboy growing up,” Morgan told Shape.
“Now I love playing with a full face of makeup.” She added.
“When I prepare for a match, it’s like work, even the way I have to shower and put on my makeup.”
And she’s not afraid of stirring the pot – causing controversy by celebrating a goal against England at the 2019 World Cup semi-final by pretending to drink a cup of tea.

    HONOURED BY FIFA
You know you’ve made it in the world of football when EA Sports make you a cover star of their FIFA game.
And Morgan was given the honour for the 16th edition of the series (for the US cover) appearing alongside Lionel Messi.
It was the first time the popular video game featured women’s soccer, and in Canada Christine Sinclair appeared too.
“It is an incredible honour to be one of the first women featured on the cover of EA SPORTS FIFA,” Morgan said in a press release from EA Sports at the time.
“I know people all over the world play this game and I’m really excited that FIFA 16 is putting such an important spotlight on women’s soccer.
“And now to share the cover with today’s greatest player is surreal.”

    ACTRESS AND AUTHOR
Her exploits on the pitch, including 107 international goals, are to be marvelled at.
But off the pitch, Morgan, who recently gave birth to baby girl Charlie in May, has been just as successful.
In 2018, she exercised her acting chops in Hollywood movie Alex & Me – playing herself.
But Morgan later revealed she found filmmaking “exhausting”.
“I’m not used to working 10 to 12 hours a day,” she told Pro Soccer USA.
“I’m used to my three or four hours of intense work and then getting the rest of the afternoon off.”
And her children’s book series, The Kicks made the New York Times’ best-seller list.
Better still, it was turned into a TV series by Amazon.

    ONE MISDEMEANOUR
Although she normally has a squeaky-clean image off the pitch, there is one blemish on her record.
In 2017, Morgan and a group of pals were kicked out of Epcot Theme Park in Florida and accused of trespassing.
An Orange County Sheriff’s Office incident report stated the group were “impaired” and that they “were all being very loud and belligerent toward staff around guests.”
Earlier that day, Morgan took to Instagram and posted an image of her group with the caption: “Annual around the world in 8 hours. No big.”
That reference refers to a popular bar-crawling tradition at the theme park.

Extraordinarily, Morgan is said to have claimed that she knew the Orlando SWAT team as she was being removed from Epcot.
She wasn’t charged for the incident, but accepted her error of judgement on Twitter.
Morgan wrote: “I want to apologise for my actions that occurred over the weekend. I will learn from this [and] make sure it does not happen again. #liveandlearn.”

Leeds TV presenter Emma Louise Jones to dazzle Premier League after Marcelo Bielsa leads team to overdue promotion

BUBBLY Leeds United TV presenter Emma Louise Jones never used to be a football fan – but now she is following the Whites to the Premier League… finally.
The Elland Road side have endured 16 years in the Football League, desperate to break back into the promised land.

Emma conducts post and pre-match interviews for LUTV – while also working for BBC Radio 5 Live and the Netball Nation podcast.
She famously stole the show during England’s 2018 World Cup warm-up win over Costa Rica – with the TV camera operator clearly more interested in her than the match.

Photos on Emma’s social media through the years have shown her alongside Leeds legend Eddie Gray and a crop of stars including Stuart Dallas and ex-defender Pontus Jansson.
Her success in the role is all the more remarkable considering she never used to watch the beautiful game before getting the job.

Jones has become a real success, starting her football career at Leeds

Jones will now follow Leeds to the promised land, the PL

Jones works for LUTV, BBC and a netball podcast

Speaking to Ourtown magazine, Emma said: “I never used to be a football fan – but since doing Leeds I’ve become one!

“The atmosphere, passion and buzz rubbed off on me very quickly and now I’m the noisiest spectator watching from the gallery.”
Emma has a background in news but admits she found it hard asking people difficult questions.
She says she once ended up crying with an interviewee – but there have been no such problems with Leeds… especially as they won last season’s Championship crown.
Jones said: “Whilst in Hull, I managed to get a job on Leeds United TV, presenting their matchday shows.
“Again, I couldn’t believe my luck as TV had been another dream of mine.”

Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa looks like a movie star in amazing throwback photos as young man in 1970s

MARCELO BIELSA already has a rock star image in football.
Revered by Leeds fans for helping the Yorkshire club gain promotion to the Premier League, the 65-year-old has been branded iconic by the likes of Pep Guardiola and Mauricio Pochettino.

    6

Marcelo Bielsa, between 1975-80, age 20-25
The way he gets his teams to play in an expressive and expansive manner is admired by purveyors of the beautiful game, along with his incredible eye for detail in studying the opposition.
And in the style stakes in his 20s, there’s no doubt the Argentine was also the king of cool too.
    COOLNESS PERSONIFIED
These amazing photos, taken during Bielsa’s playing days in the 1970s, show a completely different side to the meticulous football manager.
The first, circa 1975-80 and when he was in his early to mid 20s, shows the bucket-sitting boss sporting long, thick locks and looking more like the frontman of a rock and roll band than budding footballer.

While in his playing days at Newell’s Old Boys from 1975-77, a handsome, clean-cut Bielsa has the appearance of a dashing Hollywood movie star in these incredible throwback snaps.
The images are a million miles away from the image of the renowned tactician we see today.
And they were taken as Bielsa was considering his next moves in the game.

    6

Bielsa made his debut for Newell’s Old Boys in 1975

    6

In his playing days at Newell’s Old Boys, Bielsa appears clean-cut
    EARLY RETIREMENT
Bielsa’s playing career lasted just five years.

He made his debut for Newell’s Old Boys playing in defence in 1975, and went on to appear 25 times for the famous Argentinian club in two years.
In 1978 Bielsa signed for Instituto for a season, before then joining Argentino de Rosario for another year.
However, in 1980 he hung up his boots to focus on a career in coaching.
Bielsa returned to Newell’s Old Boys, where his first job was coaching the youth team.

    TINY DANCER
Petite Taing and Draxler met in Paris and began dating at the tale-end of 2019.
Her stunning figure can be attributed to the fact she is a professional dander and choreographer.

She has danced most famously for French singer Matt Pokora.
Last Christmas, they went public with their romance on Instagram – sharing photos with their families online.

Iceland shame Phil Foden became dad at 18 with childhood sweetheart Rebecca Cooke and bought £2m home for his parents

MANCHESTER CITY and England star Phil Foden has been talked about as a future superstar for years.
The outrageously talented midfielder has done a lot of growing up since he made his City debut aged just 17.

But all that maturity seemed to vanish during his Iceland hotel shame with Mason Greenwood at the weekend.
Foden, now 20, became a dad a year after he made his bow for his boyhood club.
The wonderkid welcomed a son, Ronnie, with long-term girlfriend Rebecca Cooke, and he dedicated his MOTM display in the Carabao Cup final to him on Twitter.
And just a few months before he penned a £30,000-per-week deal that ties him to the Etihad till 2024 in 2018, he splashed £2MILLION on a home for his parents.

There was only one snag to him becoming a dad so young… Foden had to sacrifice his love of fishing, for now.
    FAMILY COMES FIRST
In January 2019, the birth of his first child changed Foden’s life.
He had already been dating Wag Rebecca for some time but they kept their romance under wraps.
And the stunning 19-year-old at the centre of the Iceland hotel storm claims he kept Rebecca and Ronnie secret from her too.

Foden – who made his England debut in the 1-0 win over Iceland last week – admitted he shed a tear when his son arrived.
“I was there for the birth,” he told Manchester City’s official website.
“I walked out of the room, gave it a little tear and then went back in like nothing happened.

“I’m not one for crying in front of people. I like to be on my own, but I was there in the room, watched it happen and it was a special moment.”
    GETTING SOME PERSPECTIVE
His team-mates told Foden that it would be the best thing that ever happened to him, but being a dad wasn’t going to be easy.
But, if he has a bad game or training session, having Ronnie at home does make things better and puts things into perspective.
Away matches, however, mean he doesn’t get to spend as much time with his son as he would like.
Foden revealed: “If you have a bad game or a bad session, you’re disappointed, but now I think about the bigger picture.
“I go home and see him smiling, so there’s more important things than worrying about one bad session.
“You look at things in a different way when you’ve got a kid.
“Honestly, I’m really enjoying it, but I find it quite difficult, always having away games and being away from him. He’s one now, so he’s missing me a bit.
“There are things you miss when you’re not there because you’ve got an away game.
“I was there when he started crawling, but I think I was in London when he started to walk.
“Now he’s getting about and walking everywhere, so you have to have eyes in the back of your head or he starts running off.

“It’s unfortunate to miss things like that but it’s a sacrifice that he’ll appreciate when he’s older.”
HOME IS WHERE THE HEART IS
Foden was raised by dad Phil and mum Claire in Edgeley, a modest Stockport suburb – far removed from the affluent towns and villages of Cheshire, nicknamed the Golden Triangle, where his team-mates now live.
But as soon as Foden had established himself in Pep Guardiola’s squad, he set out to repay his parents for helping him achieve his dreams of becoming a footballer.
The starlet spent £2m on a luxury home in Bramhall, near Stockport, where the family all live together.
Often, he’s seen walking around the neighbourhood with Rebecca, pushing Ronnie in a pram, while dribbling a ball at his feet on the streets.
Like any teenage boy (and Premier League footballer), he loves gaming and has always preferred nights in playing Fifa over clubbing at one of Manchester’s famous nightspots.

FAST CARS? NO, HE LOVES FISHING
Modest for a man expected to be England’s next big thing, ‘Pep’s Lad’ also christened the ‘Stockport Iniesta’ by City fans has an unexpected hobby.
Although he’s had to put his love of fishing on the back-burner, with his time dedicated to Ronnie, he loves nothing more than catching carp with his pals.
Foden would even trek to Spain, where once hooked a 130lb catfish.
“I was probably about six or seven and my dad had a fishing rod of his dad’s and said we should go and try it out,” he recalled.
“I fell in love with it and we ended up going every weekend. I still remember my first catch.
“It wasn’t very big, I was just learning, but it’s the excitement of when you get one for the first time.
“I think that’s the buzz that makes you want to go again, but it’s also a chance to chill and relax and to spend time with my dad.
“I think it’s really good after games when you have to rest your legs and I just find it really enjoyable.

“There’s tactics. Knowing in which spots to fish, knowing where the fish are, fishing at different lengths…
“There’s a lot behind it but when I get the odd day off, I fish simple. I’m not a specialist at it but I still manage to catch.
“I generally love all types of sport, but I don’t do any others apart from fishing.”
