Football’s social media spats, from Gazza calling Snoop Dogg ‘ugly’ on Twitter to Patrice Evra slamming PSG

    IT’S a funny old game.
Off the pitch, footballers can be just as competitive as they are on it.

And when you throw in social media, sometimes they can’t help but air their feelings about a club, a player, or even a fan on their well-followed accounts.
Most recently, Arsenal hotshot Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos shared a war-of-words on Twitter.
The Gabon striker took offence to the German slamming his famous goal celebration, tweeting: “By the way does this Toni Kroos have kids?
“Just to remember i did it for my son few times and I will do it again. I wish you have kids one day and make them happy.”

Here’s more footballers who aired their dirty laundry in public, or more precisely, on the internet.
    EVRA V PSG
Back in 2019, Patrice Evra was forced to issue a grovelling video apology after he was called homophobic by PSG.
The ex-Manchester United defender had earlier called the Ligue 1 club “f*****s” in an astonishing rant filmed in a taxi on Snapchat.
“I am here to clarify a massive misunderstanding,” he said.

Patrice Evra was accused of homophobia after gay slur against PSG
“I made a video as a joke, as a friend, and because I used the word [f****t], they [French media] translated as I am against the gay people.
“I’m not homophobic because you know who I am, I’m Mr I Love This Game, I love everyone.”
    GAZZA V SNOOP DOGG
In one of the most bizarre spats, Paul Gascoigne got into a set-to with LA rapper Snoop Dogg.
The argument began when Snoop posted a meme to highlight the effects of alcohol abuse – with juxtaposed images of Gazza in his younger years to an unflattering snap of the England legend as he is today.
Gazza, rightfully disgusted, wrote on Twitter: “Just back from doing charity work in Spain then just when U thought it was safe2get out of the water f****** snoop dog turns up FFS SHANE (Gascoigne’s manager) what’s he snooping about for.”
15 hours later, Gazza continued his tirade sharing a picture of a dog with braids and a gold necklace and saying it looked like the hip-hop legend.
“Morning ⁦@SnoopDogg⁩ get your lazy arse out of bed it’s walkies time woof woof you ugly twat LOVE GAZZA xxx,” he wrote alongside the snap.

In a now deleted tweet, Paul Gascoigne posted a picture of a dog saying it looked like Snoop Dogg
    OWEN V SHEARER
There’s certainly no love lost between Michael Owen and Alan Shearer, who worked together at Newcastle when the former was a player and latter his manager.
And when Owen released his book, ‘Reboot – My Life’ it opened up a whole can of words.
One claim was that Shearer held Owen responsible for the Toon’s relegation in 2009, refusing to risk aggravating injury further in the team’s run-in.
Owen also said Shearer felt he had one eye on his next move, with his contract expiring at the end of that dismal season.
Then, it erupted on Twitter with Shearer sharing a clip on Twitter of Owen talking about hating the last seven years of his career and revealing he couldn’t wait to retire.
“Yes Michael, we thought that also, whilst on £120k a week,” Shearer wrote on the post.
But Owen kicked back, questioning Shearer’s loyalty to the Toon.

Not sure you are as loyal to Newcastle as you make out mate. I distinctly remember you being inches away from signing for Liverpool after Sir Bobby Robson put you on the bench. You tried everything to get out. https://t.co/ZQBrlojeEv

    VAN AANHOLT V HOPKINS
When former The Apprentice star Katie Hopkins slammed the Black Lives Matter movement on Twitter earlier this year, Crystal Palace defender Patrick van Aaanholt posted his thoughts
He said: “I don’t know who she is but WOW… 2020 needs to cancel you. She really likes to talk – how long she been on this nonsense for?”
Hopkins replied: “Dear @pvanaanholt My name is Katie Hopkins. I am a white Christian Conservative. You May kneel and kiss my ring.”
The Dutch star swiftly replied: “Dear @kthopkins My name is Patrick van Aanholt, I am Dutch Black, I’m also Christian (not that colour or Religion has anything to do with it).
“As for your ring you are welcome to come to Selhurst and kiss my big toe… I’ll wait. Twitter I’m going bed but I can promise you I’ll make time for this Katie Hopkins. Deuces”.

Crystal Palace defender Patrick van Aanholt wasn’t happy with Katie Hopkins’ tweet

The pair had a spat online earlier this year
    SPORTING LISBON
In 2018, Sporting Lisbon’s controversial ex-president Bruno de Carvalho suspended 19 of the Portuguese club’s players after they got into a Facebook spat with him.
De Carvalho started the row off by slamming his players for their “stupid” defeat to Atletico Madrid in a Europa League match.
Then, a number of players released a joint statement criticising his remarks.
“We always fight for our club, for our supporters and ourselves,” said the statement.
“For this reason, we express in this message our displeasure at the public comments of our president after a game in which we did not get the result we wanted.
“No matter what the situation, all such matters should be resolved within the group.”
The Sporting president was disgusted by the mutiny and suspended all those who turned against him – leaving the club with just six first team players for their next league match.

    FABREGAS V ROBERTS
Former Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas has always held a torch for his old club.
And when a former Tottenham star comes at him, he’s sure to have a witty response.

It began when Cesc wrote on Twitter: “As a fan, would you rather get to the Champions League final and be a runner up or win the Europa League? Just curious.”
80s Spurs defender Graham Roberts delivered the snarky reply: “Not getting much game time now then Cesc?”
Cue Fabregas’ witty repost: “I don’t know who you are and I don’t know if I’m getting enough game time or not but I do know you won’t win anything again this season.”

Man City star Gabriel Jesus is at a crossroads for club and country, with Brazil preferring to play him out wide

THAT first touch from Gabriel Jesus, taking the ball beyond Trent Alexander-Arnold, may not have been intentional. But there is no doubt about what came next.
The Brazilian striker reacted quickly to the opportunity, spinning and toe poking a shot past Alisson to bring Manchester City level against Liverpool.

It was a moment when Gabriel Jesus looked like a genuine centre forward. But does he produce enough such moments? Is he a genuine centre forward?
Brazil have decided that he is not. If coach Tite could turn back the hands of time and play the 2018 World Cup again, then Gabriel Jesus would not be leading the team’s attacking line.
Thrown in at the deep end as a teenager in 2016, Jesus seemed to have solved Brazil’s surprising and long running centre forward problem.
He did wonderfully well in qualification. But when it really mattered, when the bar was raised higher in Russia, he had a bad tournament.

Some much criticised centre forwards in Brazil’s past – Serginho in 1982, Fred in 2014 – managed to score a World Cup goal. But in anattack minded side, Gabriel Jesus did not get off the mark.
Brazil decided that he did not offer enough in the penalty area. He remains part of Brazil’s plans – but as a striker operating from wide, not through the middle. Coach Tite stresses that this is his favoured position.
    CITY DILEMMA
If this is true, then where does that leave Gabriel Jesus with Manchester City?
When he arrived at the start of 2017 he hit the ground running, and there was a spell when he won the nod as centre forward over Sergio Aguero.

Sergio Aguero’s injury problems have seen Jesus fill in at centre forward for Manchester CityCredit: Rex Features
Almost four years later, it is far from clear that Gabriel Jesus is, or can be, a like for like Aguero replacement.
The absences through injury of the little Argentine have shone a light on the strengths and weaknesses of the young Brazilian.
Against Real Madrid in last season’s Champions League, Gabriel Jesus was superb.
He pressed the opposing centre backs to distraction, and was a decisive part of City’s victory.
But in the next round against Lyon he was very disappointing. It was a very different type of game, one where City badly needed a penalty area presence that he did not supply.
    PEP’S POSSIBLE SOLUTION
Facing the very strongest opponents, Pep Guardiola may well favour a more mobile attacking line.
But against the majority of teams he would surely do better with a specialist in the dark acts of the restricted space of the area.

Jesus has struggled at times to fill Aguero’s bootsCredit: Reuters

Guardiola still has faith in JesusCredit: Getty Images – Getty
That goal against Liverpool on Sunday shows that Gabriel Jesus does have some penalty area skills. But does he have enough?
His other contribution close to the opposing goal was a well timed run followed by a fluffed header from Joao Cancelo’s cross. And most of his other work happened either wide or deep.

Guardiola and his Manchester City staff must surely be pondering this issue.
The club must inevitably prepare for a post-Aguero era. Will they need to spend big money on a specialist centre forward?
Or do they disagree with Brazil’s coach, and think that Gabriel Jesus can grow into the role?

Dietmar Hamann fears Pep Guardiola has peaked at Manchester City and can’t see them winning the Prem More

Top 10 footballers’ cars for 2020 include a £2m Ferrari, £200,000 Bentley and £140,000 Aston Martin, but no Lamborghinis

EVERY year footballers are seen behind the wheels of new, exciting cars as they start a new season afresh.
And the coronavirus pandemic hasn’t halted their preference for stunning motors worth hundreds of thousands.

Thanks to insurance website MoneyBeach.co.uk, SunSport can reveal the top 10 cars that footballers own the most.
You’ll be shocked to discover there’s not a Lamborghini in sight.
    10. TESLA MODEL S
Football is slowly catching onto the idea of going green.
Of course, there’s Forest Green Rovers owner Dale Vince who encourages his players to drive electric cars.

Arsenal star Hector Bellerin is a forward-thinker, who has joined Vince on his crusade to make football more environmentally friendly.
He also drives a £74,000 Tesla Model S, designed by Elon Musk, that can reportedly reach a top speed of 199 mph.

    9. FERRARI LAFERRARI
The most expensive car on the list, the star of Ferrari’s fleet is their amazing LaFerrari.
It’s no surprise that car aficionado Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has one in his garage.

Spurs star Son Heung-min is also believed to own one in his car collection.
Only 499 were ever made, so it’s a real collector’s item.

Ferrari’s LaFerrari, as seen with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, is valued at £2m
    8. MERCEDES-BENZ G WAGON
Surprisingly low on the list is the G Wagon, given SO many footballers seem to be seen with one.
Cristiano Ronaldo was given the car by Georgina Rodriguez back in February as a present for his 35th birthday.
We’ve also seen Mesut Ozil behind the wheel of one, most famously when his team-mate Sead Kolasinac was fighting off car jackers.
Prices for the G Wagon start at £93,250.

    7. FERRARI 488
It seems that it’s French footballers that are in love with the Ferrari 488.
With a price tag from £251,590, you’d have to be an international to be able to afford one.
Chelsea star Olivier Giroud takes his to training at the club’s Cobham complex.

    6. FORD MUSTANG GT
An American favourite, there’s not many footballers on our shores that drive Mustangs.
But in the MLS they’re all the range, which could explain why it features so highly on the list.
However, one former Premier League star Vincent Kompany had a Mustang GT – worth around £30,0000.
In 2019, he sold it on AutoTrader.

    5. ASTON MARTIN DB9
The DB9 isn’t a new car, having been around since 2004.
But at £135,000 brand new, it’s still one of the most classiest motors to own on the road.
Manchester United star Juan Mata is a proud driver of one.
As is Barcelona defender Gerard Pique.

    4. LAND ROVER RANGE ROVER AUTOBIOGRAPHY
Long been the staple of any footballers’ garage, the Range Rover is regularly seen across training ground car parks all over the world.
Their special Autobiography model is its most expensive – costing from £101,035.
It’s a favourite of Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who has pulled up to Carrington in his.
Harry Kane is also believed to have one amongst his fleet of British cars.

    3. BENTLEY BENTAYGA ONYX
Bentley’s first ever 4×4 comes with a hefty price tag.
At £219,950 for the most exclusive GTX edition, you will need to earn superstar wages.
That’s why Manchester City pair Sergio Aguero and Riyad Mahrez can afford one.
England legend David Beckham has also been seen driving a Bentayga too.

    2. LAND ROVER RANGE ROVER SPORT
If you’re with Manchester United, you MUST drive a Range Rover Sport.
Or at least that seems to be the way, if these pictures are anything to go by.
Harry Maguire, Phil Jones, plus new signings Donny Van de Beek and Edinson Cavani have been spied riding in the SUV.
And with a starting price of £63,390 it’s not going to break the bank for these high-rollers.

    1. BENTLEY CONTINENTAL GT
Showing footballers are going for comfort over style in 2020 is the revelation that the Continental GT tops the list.

Often topping the polls of car magazines as one of the best cars money can buy, it first appeared in 2003.
Since then, the likes of Olivier Giroud, Juan Mata and Italian defender Matteo Darmian have added the motor to their garages.
Chelsea boss Frank Lampard is also a fan.

England new boy Jude Bellingham, 17, has lit up the Bundesliga for Borussia Dortmund since joining and snubbed Man Utd

HIS rise has been as fast as one of his galloping runs from midfield.
Borussia Dortmund sensation Jude Bellingham, 17, has been called up to the England squad by Gareth Southgate for the first time, after injuries to Trent Alexander-Arnold and James Ward-Prowse.

Bellingham has come a long way since his days in Birmingham’s youth teamsCredit: Twitter @bellinghamjude

That completes a remarkable year for the 6ft 1in star, who has excelled in the Bundesliga following his £30million move from Birmingham City.
The extraordinary talent was linked with a move to Manchester United, Real Madrid and Barcelona, but opted to join another Three Lions starlet Jadon Sancho, who has also been allowed to develop at Dortmund.
    Here’s his story.
    RECORD BREAKER
Bellingham made his Birmingham City debut last season aged 16 years and 38 days in the Carabao Cup against  Portsmouth, becoming the Blues’ youngest player.

His impressive technique, as well as comparisons to Dele Alli, saw the wonderkid linked with a move to Manchester United – who were said to have had a bid turned down for the talent.
Europe’s giants also circled, as the player who was earning just £145-per-week as a scholar was about to become one of the most highly-paid youngsters in the game.
Guiding him through his career is his dad, Mark, a sergeant in the West Midlands Police — and prolific former non-league striker who played over 700 games for teams such as Stourbridge, Leamington, Bromsgrove and Halesowen.
“If I get anywhere near that I’ll have had a great career. I’ll try my best!” Bellingham said comparing his own achievements to his father’s.

“My mum, dad, brother, grandparents — they are the reason I’m here today, because of all the sacrifices they have made.”

    BEATING BRUM LEGEND TREVOR FRANCIS
Birmingham legend Trevor Francis – the previous youngest Blues scorer – was watching his grandson play for their Academy when he first heard about Bellingham.
There had been a buzz about him for some time and Francis asked people: “Who is he? They say he could beat my record.”
Last season, he did just that — at 16 years and 63 days — when he grabbed the winner to sink Stoke.
It meant Bellingham eclipsed Francis for the second time in a month after his age-defying debut against Pompey.
Bellingham later revealed: “The kind of person I am meant I wanted to beat the record, or see how close I could get to it because I’ve heard how great Trevor Francis was.”
Having impressed so much, he went on to make 44 appearances in all competitions.

    GERMANY CALLING
It seemed inevitable that Bellingham would move on to bigger and better things after starring in the Championship at such a precious age.
But a move to Borussia Dortmund was a shock, given his suitors at the time.
He visited Manchester United, who arranged a meeting with Sir Alex Ferguson to help push a deal over the line.
However, after seeing how England team-mate Sancho had prospered after leaving United’s rivals Manchester City, Bellingham was drawn to Dortmund.
In July, he flew to Germany to sign a deal worth £30million – the highest fee for a 17-year-old ever.
“I’m incredibly excited to have joined one of Europe’s biggest clubs,” he said at the time.
“The direction they are heading in and how much they help to improve young players made it an easy decision for myself and my family.”

Borussia Dortmund signed Bellingham from Birmingham for £30mCredit: Borussia Dortmund

    A SUCCESSFUL START
Immediately recognising his talent, Dortmund thrust Bellingham into their first team to blood the boy.
And they were justified with that decision, again with the teen breaking even more records.
On his debut in the DFB-Pokal against third-tier MSV Duisburg Bellingham scored the second goal in a comfortable 5-0 win.

His strike after half-an-hour made him the youngest scorer in a competitive match for the club – breaking Nuri Sahin’s record by six days.
Then, when he appeared in the Champions League against Lazio in October, Bellingham became the youngest Englishman to start a Champions League match, breaking the record previously set by Phil Foden.
Ironically, it’s those two that could be starring in the centre of England’s midfield for years to come.

Aubameyang, Bale, Messi and Kane all lease cars, but how much do they pay per month and what are they putting down?

    LEASING is the new buying.
Today, many savvy footballers prefer to lease a new motor rather than buy one.

Savvy footballers of today like Harry Kane are leasing their motorsCredit: The Sun

It gives the world’s biggest stars the option of swapping cars, if they’re bored of their old one – either before their lease runs out or after.
And it’s often a more modest vehicle that football’s biggest names will prefer to lease in the incredible car collections.
Lionel Messi, Harry Kane, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Gareth Bale and more are believed to have deals on leased motors.
Auto Trader’s Rory Reid says: “Leasing is a great way to get celebrity style without the huge down payment which comes with buying more expensive cars.

“Most people take pride in the car that they drive and want this to suit their style and taste, whether that be a fast sports car or a climate-friendly vehicle, so it’s great that leasing makes otherwise relatively expensive cars more accessible to buyers with more modest budgets.”
So, how much are footballers paying monthly and what did they put down as a down payment?
SunSports reveals all, subject to a 36 month contract with initial payments equivalent to six months payment.
    PIERRE-EMERICK AUBAMEYANG
The Arsenal striker is known for his love of amazing cars.

Aubameyang has been seen behind the wheels of a £2million LaFerrari and various Lamborghinis outrageously wrapped, which is believed he owns.
One of his fleet is an impressive Audi R8, that has a £160,000 price tag that is said to be leased.
For an initial payment of £11,118 expect to pay a monthly sum of £1,853 – well within Aubameyang’s reach thanks to a bumper pay rise with the Gunners.
The Gunners captain, 31, took to Instagram to flaunt five of his stunning fleet – which have been wrapped in silver, gold… and just about every colour of the rainbow.

Nestled in Aubameyang’s fleet of motors is a £160,000 Audi R8
    LIONEL MESSI
The Barcelona ace has a car collection to envy.
One of his luxury vehicles is a Lexus RX450h, alongside a fleet of supercars worth millions.
Leasing that £58,484 Lexus would require an initial payment of £3,552.
Monthly he’s looking at a paltry £592 per month. Peanuts for the little Argie.

    HARRY KANE
The England marksman is a fan of British motors.
Kane gets behind Jaguar cars, and has a F-Pace worth £44,431 fresh out the showroom.
However, putting down just £3,245 – nothing for the Spurs man – affords him a very decent lease deal
    It’s just £540.99 a month on an F-Pace then.

    N’GOLO KANTE
The most modest Premier League footballer ever?
Possibly. When Chelsea midfielder Kante was at Leicester, he drove a Mini Cooper Hatch.
Most recently, the French international has been seen behind the wheels of a Mercedes, but the Mini was his pride and joy, and it was said that he bought it.
However, to lease the car it’ll cost an initial payment of £1,536, which is only £256 per month. Bargain.

    JESSE LINGARD
The Manchester United winger likes the finer things in life – after all, we saw his lovely home on MTV Cribs during lockdown.
He’s been seen behind the wheel of a Range Rover Sport SVR – the ultimate SUV – costing £107,988.
Leasing it offers a better deal – with a down payment of £5,772.
    Monthly, it’s £962.

    GARETH BALE
The Welsh wing wizard is back at Spurs, and ready to show off his impressive car collection to his team mates.
But before he left Real Madrid, Bale treated himself to a Audi Q7 SUV that costs £61,000 when new.
The reliable family car can cost £520 per month, with a £3,468 initial payment put down.
And there’s plenty of space for Bale’s golf clubs too.

    JORDAN HENDERSON
The Liverpool ace loves the German manufacturer Mercedes-Benz.
Henderson drives a AMG GT – a perfect car for a midfielder of the Reds star’s ilk.
It’s an expensive motor worth £124,346.
But putting down £13,452 brings down the monthly payment to £2,257.

    TYRONE MINGS
The England international is another player who wasn’t afraid to drive a regular motor.
Aston Villa defender Mings, a £25million signing from Bournemouth, used to squeeze his 6ft 5in frame into a Vauxhall Corsa.
Famously, the centre half revealed he knew he made it as a footballer after signing for Ipswich Town when he upgraded from a Citroen Saxo to a Corsa.
A brand new Corsa costs around £18,499.
£920 down, you’ll be paying no more than £155 per month.

To lease a Vauxhall Corsa you could pay as little as £155 per month
    KEVIN-PRINCE BOATENG
The former Spurs and Portsmouth star has had spells in Italy during his career, most notably with AC Milan, Sassuolo and Fiorentina.
Currently plying his trade at Monza, Boateng’s choice of car is suitably Italian – he drives a Fiat Abarth 595.
The cheapest car on this list, it’s worth £17,000.
An initial payment of £1,200 gives you a very reasonable lease rate over a 36-month period.

The 22 reasons we love Cristiano Ronaldo.. from donating millions to charity to avoiding tattoos so he can give blood

DURING the coronavirus pandemic few have stepped up to the plate like Cristiano Ronaldo.
The Juventus forward, who earns £500,000-a-week wages at the Italian club and has sponsorship deals with the likes of Nike, Armani, KFC, Herbalife, as well as his own range of CR7 clothes, shoes and underwear, has put his money where his mouth is and aided those in need.

Cristiano Ronaldo is the world’s richest athlete – and he is also one of the most generousCredit: AFP or licensors

His years of success at Real Madrid and now at Juventus have made the Portuguese one of the most divisive athletes in the world.
Adored by fans for his ridiculous skill and achievement, Ronaldo also has an army of critics who hate his petulant behaviour and obsession with appearance and brand.
But while many deride Ronaldo for his antics on the pitch, few know of his charity work off of it.
Here’s why Ronaldo has one of the biggest hearts in all of sport.

    CORONAVIRUS PAYCUT
With an estimated wealth of around £500million, you could argue that it wouldn’t hurt Ronaldo to take a pay cut during these uncertain times for football clubs.
But not all footballers are in agreement with that idea.
However, Ronaldo led the way with a wage cut for March, April, May, and June while the world waited to see what the initial outbreak of the coronavirus would do to the footballing world.
That’s said to have cost Ronaldo £3.8m personally.

    GENEROUS DONATION
According to various reports, Ronaldo teamed up with his agent Jorge Mendes back in March to donate £1m to hospitals in Portugal to fight the coronavirus pandemic.
Hospitals in Porto and Lisbon were recipients of the generous donation – receiving beds and ventilators to cope with the high-number of patients suffering with Covid-19.
Daniel Ferro, president of Lisbon’s Santa Maria Hospital, revealed the selfless act.
“We were contacted by Jorge Mendes, who volunteered with Cristiano Ronaldo to finance two intensive care units for critical patients suffering from Covid-19,” Ferro said.
“There are fans, monitors, infusion pumps, beds … all the equipment that constitutes an intensive care unit equipped to provide care to a Covid-19 patient.”

    BONUS PAY
Ronaldo’s international team-mate Bernardo Silva let the cat out of the bag for this one.
According to the Manchester City star, CR7 asked the Portugal squad to donate 50 per cent of their qualification bonus for Euro 2020 to help combat the coronavirus pandemic.
“So we qualified to the 2020 Euros, which now is in 2021,” Silva said.
“And he gave us the idea let’s donate part of our bonus, so I think our national team, our players will donate 50 per cent of our qualifying bonus.”

    HIS EUROPEAN GOLDEN BOOT
In 2011, Cristiano Ronaldo was awarded the European Golden Boot after scoring 40 goals under Jose Mourinho, although Los Blancos could only finish second in La Liga and crashed out in the semi-finals of the Champions League.
Rather than keep the award in his already packed trophy room – Ronaldo opted to sell it for charity.
The boot went for auction and raised a stunning £1.2m.
The funds went towards building a number of schools in war-torn Gaza.

    THE BALLON D’OR
Ronaldo repeated the trick of selling off one of his trophies in 2017, this time his 2013 Ballon d’Or trophy at a charity auction in London.
The gala dinner, to raise funds for the Make-A-Wish Foundation – which grants wishes to children with life-threatening conditions – was a roaring success.
Ronaldo’s Ballon d’Or made a massive £530,000 for the organisation too.

    AN AMBASSADOR
Ronaldo continues to use his global platform as a force for good.
He is an ambassador for three major charities, Save the Children, Unicef and World Vision, and has spoken up for countless more.
At his 2014 Ballon d’Or speech, Ronaldo made a point of mentioning a group of children he had met with leukemia.
He has continued to speak out in those roles.

In 2016, he recorded a message to the children affected by the Syrian conflict, calling them “true heroes” and stating “I am with you”.
He also made a secret donation which he asked Save the Children not to reveal.
Ronaldo’s Ice Bucket Challenge video – the viral sensation that raised hundreds of millions of pounds in 2014 – was seen by more than a hundred million people across his social media platforms.
    WIN BONUSES
Ronaldo has also been very generous with giving up money earned from his exceptional performances on the pitch.
In 2013 he was named in the Uefa Team of the Year – earning a €100,000 (£89,000) bonus from the European governing body.
But rather than cash the cheque, he donated it to the Red Cross.
A year later the Portuguese star led Real Madrid to La Decima, their tenth Champions League victory, and picked up a £450,000 bonus from Los Blancos.
But Ronaldo again decided against cashing the money, instead sharing it among the three charities he is an ambassador for, Unicef, World Vision and Save the Children.

    GIVES BLOOD
The 32-year-old, compared to a growing number of his peers, is remarkably tattoo-free.
It’s all for a reason – Ronaldo regularly donates blood and has been involved in numerous campaigns to encourage others to do the same.
People with tattoos can donate blood, but are not able to do so immediately after getting new ink to reduce the risk of infection.

Ronaldo is a frequent giver of blood and has advocated for others to do the same

The Portuguese does not have any tattoos so he can donate blood more frequently
He said in 2015: “We can all make a difference by donating blood.
“Each donation can benefit up to three people in emergency situations and for long-term medical treatments… That’s why I am enthusiastic… to the importance of blood donation and to encourage people around the world to become lifelong blood donors and help save lives.”
Ronaldo also donates bone marrow after a former team-mate revealed his struggles.
Carlos Martins had a son who needed bone marrow and Ronaldo has been a donor since.
He said donating bone marrow is ‘something a lot of people think is a difficult thing to do but it’s nothing more than drawing blood and doesn’t hurt.’
    MULTI-MILLION POUND RELIEF
Ronaldo again donated a huge amount of money in 2015, to the relief efforts for the Nepalese earthquake in April 2015.
The deadly natural disaster killed 9,000 people, injured 22,000 more and caused untold amounts of damage to the country.
Ronaldo is reported to have given £5MILLION to Save the Children’s disaster relief fund – although those reports have remained unverified and were denied by the charity.
He likely did make a donation, although the amount remains a mystery.

    HELPING A CANCER CENTRE
Ronaldo’s mother, Dolores Aveiro, survived breast cancer in 2007.
The former Manchester United man decided to thank the care centre in Portugal that treated his mum – adding £120,000 to their coffers.

    INVITATION TO AN ORPHAN
In Lebanese capital Beirut, Real Madrid fan Haidar was orphaned when both of his parents were killed by a suicide bomber.
A local reporter got in touch with the Spanish giants and eventually the boy was invited to the club.
It lead to a heart-rending video of Ronaldo cuddling the youngster as he burst into tears of sheer delight to meet his hero.

    HELPING A YOUNG FAN
Ronaldo was alerted to the story of  Nuhuzet Guillen, a nine-year-old with terminal cancer in 2009.
After hearing about the fan, Ronaldo decided to send a driver to bring the family to the hotel where the Real Madrid team were staying.
After emerging from the lift, he is reported to have joked to the youngster: “Don’t you want to say anything?”
He dedicated a goal to Nuhuzet, inviting him to watch the match in his private box at the Bernabeu, and after the game gave him his match shirt.

After speaking with his father, Ronaldo learned there was not much that could be done, although there was experimental treatment available in the US, which the star paid for.
When Nuhuzet’s condition worsened, Ronaldo offered to pay for all of his medication, costing hundreds of thousands, and treatment at a private medical centre.
Ronaldo paid that for more than a year, until the boy sadly passed away in March 2013.
    GENEROUS WITH HIS TIME
Ronaldo is often targeted by pitch invaders for selfies and pictures.
But rather than avoid the fans, CR7 knows he is an icon to these people and instead often stops for pictures.
On numerous occasions he has stopped fans from being dealt with by heavy-handed security.
Ronaldo also loves to interact with supporters inside stadiums, often staying to throw his shirt into the crowd, sign autographs and take pictures.

    HELPING ANOTHER YOUNG FAN
In 2014, the mother of another young fan, ten-month-old Erik Ortiz Cruz, asked Ronaldo to donate a shirt to the boy, who has cortical dysplasia.
The brain abnormality causes up to 30 seizures a day.
After hearing the full story Ronaldo paid £55,000 for initial brain surgery and pledged to cover the cost of any follow-up treatment – although none has so far been needed.
He also helped raise extra money for Erik by donating a signed kit to sell at auction.

    BROKEN ARM
During a pre-season friendly at Bournemouth, Ronaldo blasted one of his trademark free-kicks into the crowd at the Vitality Stadium.
Unfortunately for 11-year-old Charlie Silverwood, the shot broke the boy’s arm.
Club president Florentino Perez called Charlie, while Ronaldo gave him a signed Real Madrid shirt.
During a Champions League clash he also hit a shot into the crowd that made a young boy cry.
He leapt into the stand to give the youngster his training top.

    BEST FRIEND EVER
Super-agent Jorge Mendes named Ronaldo as his best man when he married Sandra in 2015.
And Ronaldo decided to reward his Portuguese friend handsomely, buying him a whole Greek Island as a wedding present.
The island is said to have cost almost £40MILLION.
    INVITATION FOR RICKSEN
Rangers legend Fernando Ricksen was suddenly diagnosed with motor neurone disease in 2013.
The former Netherlands international was wheelchair-bound and relied on his wife and carers to look after him until his death in September 2019.
After his condition became well-known, Ronaldo contacted the Scottish title winner on social media to invite Ricksen and his family to a match at the Bernabeu.
Ronaldo also presented a shirt to the former right-back after a Champions League win over Legia Warsaw in October 2016.

    SUPER TEAM-MATE
After La Decima, Real Madrid’s players not only got that win bonus from the club, but also a special gift from Ronaldo.
The player of the tournament decided to reward his team-mates with personalised watches from luxury watch brand Bvlgari.
Each watch was personalised and said to have cost him £5,000 each.

    BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING
Ronaldo’s father, Denis was an alcoholic who battled with his addiction for years before his death in 2005.
Older brother Hugo Aveiro was heading down that same path, addicted to alcohol and drugs.
But as Ronaldo’s fame grew he decided to intervene – promising to dedicate La Decima to his older brother if he kicked his destructive habits.
He did and then came on to the pitch to share an emotional embrace with Ronaldo after full-time.
Hugo, who is ten years older than Cristiano, has since been pictured alongside Ronaldo at numerous events, including the 2016 Ballon d’Or ceremony.
Ronaldo is also godfather to Hugo’s son, while the Juventus and Portugal star decided to put his older brother in charge of the Ronaldo Museum in Madeira.
So next time someone mentions how much they hate Ronaldo’s preening on the field, just remember how much he helps out off it.

    PATIENCE OF A SAINT

Humble Cristiano Ronaldo happily waited 40 minutes for a table in a restaurant and is a ‘decent boy’, reveals chefCredit: Instagram / @georginagio
Humble Ronaldo showed he is just like the rest of us when he went out for a pre-Christmas dinner with girlfriend Georgina Rodriguez and son Cristiano Jr in December 2018.
Turin chef Davide Fiore offered the exclusive party a spot at 9.30pm – only for the Ronaldo clan to rock up 90 minutes early and have to wait FOURTY minutes for a table.
But the forward didn’t throw his toys out of the pram like some critics might’ve expected, instead waiting patiently with no sign of arrogance and Fiore described him as a ‘decent boy’.
    A GREAT TIPPER
Ronaldo is a massive fan of the luxury Costa Navarino resort in southern Greece and has stayed there multiple times.
The area comprises several sites, with two five-star hotels, as well as luxury private residences, conference facilities, spas and golf courses. It is not clear exactly where Ronaldo was staying – the owners enforced a media blackout to allow Ronaldo and his family some privacy – but he clearly loved it.
After week long stays in 2018 and 2019, Ronaldo left a massive tip for the staff who had looked after him, paying £20,000 on top of his bill to be shared among ten staff on both occasions.
    NEVER FORGETS A KIND GESTURE
Ronaldo recently revealed he was given free burgers by three women when he used to beg for food as a child.
After a massive appeal, one of the women has been found – after Ron claimed he would knock on the door of a McDonald’s next to Sporting Lisbon’s stadium.
After days of searching, Paula Leca came forward to say she was one of the three women – calling Ronaldo ‘timid’.
And Ronaldo has offered to take generous Paula out for dinner either in Turin or Lisbon as a token of his gratitude.

Cristiano Ronaldo is hoping to track down a lady called Edna who used to give him free burgers as a kid when he had no money and was impoverished More

Man Utd’s greatest European wins, from beating Bayern Munich in the last minute to George Best’s demolition of Benfica

    FORGET defeat to Istanbul Basaksehir.
Over the years, Manchester United have enjoyed more favourable nights in Europe.

The Red Devils have won the European Cup/Champions League three times, as well as the Europa League, European Cup Winners’ Cup, Super Cup, Intercontinental Cup, FIFA Club World Cup – notching some famous victories along the way.
So if you’re feeling glum United fans, you need not worry.
Let SunSport take you down memory lane for Manchester United’s greatest European victories.
MAN UTD 2-1 BAYERN MUNICH, 1999
They came into the game as underdogs, severely hindered by the absence of midfield hardman Roy Keane and Paul Scholes, who were suspended.

And for large periods of the game they were outplayed, and in truth were lucky to be only 1-0 down going into the final moments of the 1999 Champions League final.
The Germans appeared victorious, substituting legend Lothar Matthaus, who received a hero’s welcome as he was clapped off the pitch in the last minute.
But as the game went into injury time, a scramble in the box was only half-cleared. Ryan Giggs mishit a shot outside the box that fell to Teddy Sheringham, who scuffed the ball home.
Then, just seconds later and with United sniffing blood, they won a corner which was whipped in by Beckham, headed down by Sheringham for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to stick out a foot and knock the ball into the roof of the net.

    MAN UTD 2-1 BARCELONA, 1991
Being underdogs in European finals has always suited United.
In 1999, they faced Johan Cruyff’s Barcelona – featuring Ronald Koeman, Michael Laudrup and Julio Salinas in their star-studded line-up in the 1991 European Cup Winners’ Cup final.
However, that all-star Barça side didn’t scare United one bit.
After a drab first half, United took the lead in the second after a Steve Bruce header was tapped over the line by Mark Hughes.
The Welshman spectacularly added his second of the night with 16 minutes to go, rounding goalie Carles Busquets and finishing from a tight angle from outside the box with a ferocious shot.
A late free kick from Koeman failed to stir a comeback, and it was United’s night to celebrate.

    PSG 1-3 MAN UTD, 2019
When United lost the first leg of their last 16 tie in the Champions League to the French champions in 2019 2-0, few gave them a prayer to comeback.
History was against them, no team had EVER lost a tie 2-0 at home and won an away leg to go through to the next round of the competition.
However, two first half goals from Romelu Lukaku put United in dreamland.
Then, a controversial VAR decision for handball gave Marcus Rashford the opportunity to score from the penalty spot, which he did with aplomb.
It’s still, probably, United’s best performance under boss Solskjaer.

    JUVENTUS 2-3 MAN UTD, 1999
United don’t do things the easy way.
On their way to winning the 1999 Champions League, they faced off against Italian giants Juventus in the semi final, who boasted Zinedine Zidane and “That lad must have been born offside” Filippo Inzaghi.
After scraping a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford, United found themselves 2-0 down after 11 minutes in Turin and were heading out.
But Roy Keane saw things differently, leaping above Zidane to head home from a corner and give United a lifeline.
Then came the Dwight Yorke and Andy Cole show, with the latter crossing for the former Aston Villa man to head home an equaliser.
Cole sealed the sensational comeback, after tapping in from a tight angle when team mate Yorke was brought down after rounding the keeper.

    BENFICA 1-4 MAN UTD, 1968
The stage was Wembley Stadium, a fitting arena for United’s first ever European triumph.
And it was their favourite son George Best who stole the show, scoring a wonder goal to set his side on their way to victory in the ’68 European Cup final.
The game headed into extra time, when a late Jaime Graça levelled Bobby Charlton’s earlier strike.
Like he was famous for, Best went on a mazy run three minutes into the first period of extended time.
Faced with goalie José Henrique, he threw him with a dummy before rolling the ball into the empty net.
United added twice more to end with a comfortable 4-1 win.

    MAN UTD 1-0 BARCELONA, 2008
On their way to winning the 2008 Champions League, United were handed a tough tie against Barcelona in the semi-final.
The first leg finished 0-0, with Cristiano Ronaldo missing a penalty, so it might’ve looked like they’d blown a good opportunity.
But when Paul Scholes ferociously rifled a shot past Victor Valdes from 25-yards in the 14th minute, they began to believe another final was their destiny.
And despite the efforts of a young Lionel Messi, Andres Iniesta, Thierry Henry, and Samuel Eto’o – Barcelona were kept at bay by a brilliant defensive performance from Rio Ferdinand and Wes Brown.
Wild scenes followed the final whistle with the Theatre of Dreams rocking from the crowd’s cheers.

    MAN UTD 7-1 ROMA, 2007
It goes without saying, but before this moment Sir Alex Ferguson and Manchester United had enjoyed so many glorious nights in Europe.
But Fergie would later say that this was his side’s best ever performance under him in European competition.
You might have forgotten, but United were 2-1 down going into the second leg of this quarter final match.

And this was a Roma side full of talent – with Daniele De Rossi and Francesco Totti their talisman.
But they were powerless as United raced to a 4-0 win before half time with goals from Michael Carrick, Alan Smith, Wayne Rooney, and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Ronaldo added a fifth, Carrick then got his second, before Patrice Evra got himself on the scoresheet to record an 8-3 aggregate win.
