David Beckham’s Inter Miami hopes to entice superstar transfer targets with fantastic beaches and celebrity lifestyle

DAVID BECKHAM’s Inter Miami project hasn’t quite gone to plan – but at least they can guarantee some sun.The MLS club’s 2021 season ended up going out with a whimper with the club missing out on the playoffs – with Phil Neville and Co clinging on to the final Eastern Conference post-season spot after 14 games in 2022.

It was hoped the arrival of former Manchester United team-mate Neville as manager might improve things this term – but they are still finding their feet.
The marquee signings of Blaise Matuidi and Gonzalo Higuain set the tone, before fizzling out. But Beckham’s dream is crystal clear.
At a press conference initially announcing the club’s formation, the ex-England captain made noises that he was regularly speaking to the world’s best talent to lure them to his project.
AC Milan striker Olivier Giroud was recently linked with a move to the club, and was reportedly offered a £4million apartment to live in.
While even Lionel Messi has hinted that he wants to play his final days in the US – with Miami favourites to land his signature.
So what can any prospective transfer targets expect from a life in Miami?
Join SunSport in lending the former Man Utd great a hand in making ‘The Magic City’ the go-to destination for the best footballers in the world.
    THE WEATHER
While you may have to be wary of the odd tropical storm here and there, Miami weather is mostly perfect.
January averages around 20 degrees Celsius, while winter highs range between 23-27 degrees Celsius.
The wet season starts in May and ends mid-October, but the temperatures are between 27-35 degrees Celsius and it’s insanely humid.
Good job the football season starts in May, otherwise it would be hell playing in those conditions.

    THE BEACHES
They say life’s a beach… Miami has several from Key Biscayne to North Beach, where prime athletes can bronze themselves on a daily basis.
There’s the 21st to 45th street beach, which runs alongside the Miami Beach boardwalk and South Pointe Park.
Some of the world’s best hotels and restaurants are nearby, so it’s the perfect spot.
Anyone feeling active could head to Lummus Beach where volleyball courts are available to rent or there’s thatched huts to lounge under.
Haulover Beach boasts white sands and a choppy sea, ideal for surfers.
On Tuesday nights there’s a food truck festival with live music and local foods for the whole family.

    THE RESTAURANTS
Miami’s cuisine is fit for a king and is influenced by the ocean with plenty of seafood on offer.
Latin American foods are key here, so most restaurants boast many Cuban-influenced dishes – most meat-based.
The most exclusive restaurants in town are Terrazza in the Shore Club Hotel, Zuma in the heart of downtown Miami and Jaya at the Setai Hotel.
Jaya is a favourite of the likes of Jay Z and Bono whenever they’re in town, with menu highlights including a whole branzino for a reasonable £27.
Terrazza’s Italian by-the pool fare will attract many footballers wanting to load up on carbs.
While Zuma’s light Japanese meals will have weight-conscious footballers frothing at the mouth.

    THE STADIUM
Central to Beckham’s Miami franchise is a super stadium fit for the best players in the world.
The 18,000 all-seater arena is in the Overtown neighbourhood, near the Miami River, and was originally met with some controversy from the locals who didn’t think a stadium should be built on the site.
A world-class training centre sits next door to the stadium and boasts first class facilities.
However, be sure that it will be a state-of-the-art venue, not only fit for football, but ready to house concerts featuring the world’s leading pop stars.
Interestingly, it won’t be the biggest stadium in the country, but it’ll surely be a sellout week in, week out with Beckham involved.
However, there are now plans to create a $1BILLON stadium, which will be ready for 2025 and hold 25,000 fans.
Plans are almost in place for a new 25,000 seater stadium costing $1BILLION

    THE CELEBRITY CULTURE
After all, this lot can’t be wrong.
The most famous faces in the world choose Miami as a holiday destination, pouring in on their private jets regularly during the summer.
Some celebrities even call Miami home, so any footballer who wants to embrace celebrity culture should look no further.
Anna Kournikova and Enrique Iglesias, Lenny Kravitz, Sean Combs, Matt Damon and Jennifer Lopez all have lavish homes in Miami.
Most opt for Star Island, so expect footballers to be checking out homes in that area.
With footballers making the crossover into movies and TV, major productions in the city are on the rise.

    SPORTS CULTURE
Anyone moving to Miami will have to be very aware of the sports culture that runs through the city’s veins.
Although the Miami Dolphins haven’t tasted Super Bowl success since 1974, they’re steeped in NFL history thanks to legendary quarterback Dan Marino.
The NBA team Miami Heat was the one-time home of LeBron James when they picked up consecutive championships in 2012 and 2013.
They’re also represented in the MLB by the Marlins, who are co-owned by NY Yankee great Derek Jeter and have won two World Championships.

    BAYSIDE MARKETPLACE
For shopping and dining, incoming footballers will look no further than taking a stroll along Bayside Marketplace.
Wrapping along the bay walls of the bank, it boasts designer shops, posh restaurants and a great vibe that encompasses all that’s great about Miami.
Incidentally, Miami Vice often filmed episodes here, so if it’s good enough for Don Johnson…

    OCEAN DRIVE
No doubt any big-name Beckham signing will be driving a fresh motor.
With that in mind, they’ll definitely want to cruise down Ocean Drive with its surrounding Art Deco hotels and bars.
The Clevelander Hotel, with its bar and massive swimming pool provide a great spot to grab a refresher in the hot heat.
You’ll be mad not to be impressed by the architecture.
It’s an amazing experience for any tourist and any future Beckham signing.

    EVERGLADES
On the list of must-do things in Miami – and Becks doesn’t even need to sell the tourist haven – is the Everglades.
Unlike anything in the world, it’s your best chance of seeing a crocodile swimming in its natural habitat.
Over 1.5 acres long, the wetlands begin in Orlando at the Kissimmee River and end at Lake Okeechobee.

Sports stars’ worst tattoos, from Beckham to Sancho, Bellerin, Dele, Hart and a Tokyo 2020 howler

THEY say money can’t buy you taste. And for all the millions today’s top athletes make – whether it be footballers or any other sports star – it appears that mantra has never been more true than when applied to tattoos.
Goalkeeper Joe Hart is the latest footballer to get an eyesore of a tattooCredit: Refer to Caption
Former England goalkeeper Joe Hart proved that with the massive block of ink across his right shoulder.
And not even the unofficial King of Cool David Beckham is immune to an occasional style blunder.
Here’s a look at some of the worst around.
    Dele Alli
Dele Alli has a tattoo of Bamm Bamm from the Flinstones on his forearm
Look past the gold bling and you will see Spurs star Alli’s permanent tribute to Bamm Bamm from the Flinstones.
A somewhat unconventional choice, Alli – whose first name is Bamidele – is thought to have got it because his nickname is Bam Bam.David Beckham

A fashion icon the world over and hugely admired midfielder, we’ll let Becks off for this one given he’s barely put a foot wrong in the past, apart from that sarong, those cornrows and that all-leather get-up…
Beckham has more than 40 tattoos but this one is probably the strangest, not least because of where it is.

Olympic runner got Tokyo 2020 tattooed on his calf – before the Games was postponed by a year due to coronavirus.
The 32-year-old qualified for Tokyo after finishing fifth overall in the Buenos Aires Marathon in September 2019.
Ayala – who represented Paraguay in the 2016 Olympics in Rio in the marathon where he finished in 136th place – got the Olympics rings plus the date and location inked on – but now he will need to change the 0 to a 1.

Those are not hieroglyphics down the prolific striker’s forearm but the Elvish language from Lord of the Rings.
Aguero must be a pretty big fan of the film, then, huh?
Er, no. But he must at least know what it means? Nope – he hasn’t even seen the movie.Nicolas Otamendi
Most people get tattoos of the things that are most important to them – family members, dates and religious symbols.
Former Man City ace Otamendi, though, clearly loves watching TV so much and has inked stars from hit shows Breaking Bad, Peaky Blinders and Vikings on his back.
At the top of his back, the Benfica defender has Walter White, the main character in Breaking Bad, while lower down there is an image of Peaky Blinders protagonist Thomas Shelby.

    Jadon Sancho

It’s easy to make the link between rapid England winger Sancho and his tattoo of Sonic the Hedgehog.
After that, things become a bit of a stretch.
Having the Simpsons daubed on his arm can perhaps be likened to his former team Dortmund side’s famous Yellow Wall – if you were really trying.
But Spiderman? There’s only so much Cartoon Network one man can need.Hector Bellerin

When he’s not flaunting questionable clobber at fashion shows, Bellerin likes to pose in retro-style photos, get tattoos and play football.
Here, he dedicates his commitment to the Arsenal cause by getting his shirt number permanently etched on his thigh.
That said, he’s looking for a move in the summer – so might have to get a new number tattooed on his body.

He is the journeyman Italian who plays for Como in Serie B, but Ciciretti must be social media famous to go to the lengths of having his Twitter handle tattooed on his calf?
Surprisingly, no. Instead, the 28-year-old removed his account after amassing just over 2,000 followers, and tweeting just 31 times Any regrets, Amato?Nile Ranger

Perhaps it was just in case he forgot. Nile Ranger – or, as the tattoo would suggest, Nile Ranges – went through the unnecessary pain of having his surname printed above his eye.

Patrice Evra is football’s social media king, kissing a chimp, licking a chicken and taunting England fans

HE’S game for a laugh.Patrice Evra, 41, has had us in stitches over the years sharing some hilarious social media posts.
Patrice Evra always entertains his nine million followers on Instagram
The former Man Utd and France defender has done everything from getting off with a monkey to feeding a lion. In honour of the funniest footballer on Instagram, SunSport celebrates the veteran star’s best social media moments.
    Keeping it festive
For Evra the spirit of Christmas is perfectly captured by a dancing reindeer, well if his most recent Instagram post is to be believed!
The hilarious star dresses up in a reindeer suit and shakes along to the Soca Boys hit Follow the Leader in a brilliant clip.
He also insists: “If you don’t believe in Santa you must tell your kid mini black Santa is the real one” in the video.
After getting ‘Rudolph’ dizzy he adds a comical trip to proceedings.

That time he dressed up as a panda
Patrice had a novel idea when it came to stamping out racism in football.
He dressed up like a panda, danced and delivered a fine speech to his four million Instagram followers.
Evra said: “Be like a panda. I am black, I am white, I am Asian and I am chubby. I am full of love. I love this game, say no to racism.”

    Taunting England
Singing into some fish and chips and wearing a Gallagher brother wig, Evra joked dinosaurs were alive the last time England won a major trophy ahead the EEuro 2020 semi-final against Denmark in a hilarious clip.
He begins by singing along to Fatboy Slim’s 1999 hit Praise You before shouting, “It’s Monday,” down the camera.
He continues: “Everyone’s been waiting for this for so long. “Last time England won a trophy, even the dinosaurs were still alive!
“Come on chaps! You can do this! Come on!”

When he got the seal of approval
Over the years Patrice’s “I love this game” catchphrase has come in handy for his social media posts.
None more so when he bellowed out his mantra as a huge seal was being fed behind him.
Cue said seal resting his head on top of Evra’s in the ultimate act of comic timing that couldn’t have been done better than Morecambe and Wise.

    Jeep thrills
Is there a better way to prove you’ll come back stronger and fitter than ever?
We don’t think so. After having his contract terminated by Marseille, Evra took to social media to tell fans he’ll be back.
He did it in the most extravagant way with a video that saw him pulling a Jeep.

    Doing some home chores
There could be nothing more boring than ironing.
But if you do it the way Evra does it, then you’re likely to have a right laugh.
The left back treated us to a video of him ironing his Juventus Champions League shirt, while singing along to Barry White.
For the record, he sang Can’t Get Enough of Your Love Babe brilliantly.

    Feeding a lion
He’s so flamboyant, he feeds lions.
And he showed his love for his feline friend by giving the cub some milk from a bottle in a video uploaded last year.
Evra captioned the vid: “Good night my little friend need some milk. I love this game. #ilovethisgame #goodnight #lion #babywhitelion #positivevibes #milk.”
He debuted the lion in 2018, but we haven’t seen it for a while.

    His love of Marvin Gaye
There’s no doubt about it, Evra is a huge fan of the soul legend.
Only last month, he treated us to a bizarre impression of Gaye, wearing a bathrobe, sunglasses and a curly wig.
Even more strange was the fact he seemed to have lost one of his £825 shoes while performing Sexual Healing.

    Kissing a chimpanzee
In probably the greatest video any footballer has uploaded to social media, Evra’s kissing chimp moment will live on forever.
The full-back can be seen puckering up next to the chimp as he asks the monkey: “You love my game or not? Then kiss me.”
Evra jokes: “No tongues,” as the chimp leans in and obliges. It’s comedy gold.

Sad decline of England legend Michael Owen from teenage hero to Real Madrid flop and ‘most boring’ TV pundit

MICHAEL OWEN has gone from the golden boy of English football to being considered the ‘most boring pundit’ in the sport. Back in 2002, Liverpool star Owen was fresh off his Ballon d’Or victory having catapulted his career with that stunning goal against Argentina at the 1998 World Cup. Gemma Owen has been confirmed for the series

    Gemma with her dad Michael

That summer, the 22-year-old took a trip to Alton Towers and, to escape his adoring fans, he wore a peaked cap and sunglasses. From the highs of being named the world’s best player, and sensationally signing for Real Madrid, Owen’s career slowly spiralled towards retirement and beyond. Now his daughter Gemma is set to make a name for herself by appearing on Love Island 2022. In 2019, Owen was involved in an explosive Twitter row with former pal Alan Shearer after the release of his autobiography. But where else to begin than with one of the most memorable goals in English football. In Saint-Etienne, France, in 1998, an 18-year-old Owen went on the most memorable mazy run around a helpless Argentine defence before giving England the lead.
    ROARING LION
While Glenn Hoddle’s team were beaten on penalties, knocked out the tournament at the last-16 stage, Owen had announced himself to the world. Over the next six years, he scored an incredible 118 goals in 216 games for Liverpool, helping the club to an FA Cup, two League Cups, a Community Shield and Uefa Cup. Owen won both Young Player of the Year and Player of the Year in 1998 while also picking up his first Premier League Golden Boot. He is one of just two Englishmen to win the Ballon d’Or in over 40 years, with Kevin Keegan picking up the gong in 1978 and 1979. So it came as a devastating blow to the Anfield club in the summer of 2004 when Owen was plucked away to be a Galactico in Madrid.

Real president Florentino Perez said: “Signing Michael Owen is following our tradition. We are signing an excellent player with talent who is able to give us something special.” But the move didn’t go as planned. Owen was the subject of criticism from the Bernabeu fans and Spanish press due to his lack of form, and he spent much time as a substitute. He left Spain after just a year, having scored 13 goals in 36 games, before returning to England with Newcastle United for £15million. Over four years, Owen made just 71 appearances and scored only 26 goals for the Magpies.
    WHY AYE?
And it was in the North East where Owen’s public fallout with Alan Shearer began. Despite forming a formidable strike partnership together for England, a feud was ignited because of Shearer’s belief that Owen let him down during his spell as Newcastle manager in 2009. Owen’s book Reboot: My Life accuses Shearer of slating him as well as describing his move to Newcastle as ‘one of the major regrets’ of his career. Newcastle’s most famous book shop, The Back Page, refused to stock Owen’s autobiography. In 2019, Owen told BT Sport: “For six or seven years, I hated it. I couldn’t wait to retire. “It wasn’t me. All I was doing is coming short, linking play and getting in the box. “It ended up with people thinking I was a great goalscorer who didn’t do much else. “Mentally I could do it, but physically I couldn’t.”

Owen’s career became synonymous with injuries. Having torn his hamstring aged 19, leading to five months out, Owen broke a metatarsal in 2005, tore an anterior cruciate ligament and had persistent problems with his thigh and groin. He moved to Manchester United in 2009 where he won a Premier League title but scored just five goals in three years. His final year was spent at Stoke City before retiring in 2013. Having spent most of the season on the bench, Owen offered to resign and retire at Christmas but held on until the end of the season.
    ‘MOST BORING PUNDIT’
He hung up his boots and picked up the mic. It is as a pundit that Owen has had most criticism, with the former striker being labelled ‘boring’, ‘monotone’ and ‘annoying’ across social media. Armchair fans took offence to some of the less insightful comments produced by Owen during his punditry. An article by Football Faithful was dedicated to some pearls of wisdom, including: “If there’s a bit of rain about, it makes the surface wet”. Former Newcastle and Chelsea striker Joe Allon described Owen as having “the personality of a flip-flop”.

Where Owen has enjoyed success in recent years is the stables, having invested in racing horses. In 2017, he even made his debut as a jockey, finishing second in the saddle at a charity race in Ascot. But, elsewhere, the general consensus is that Owen has had a mare. More

Ex-Middlesbrough footy star Richard Kell became a Jet2 pilot after two broken legs wrecked his footballing dream

WHO needs a football career? When Richard Kell, now 43, decided to hang up his boots at 27 after suffering two broken legs he already had a back-up plan.

Kell is equally as critical of his performance as a pilot as he was a player
The former Middlesbrough trainee began learned how to fly a plane during an injury lay-off at Scunthorpe United from 2001-2004.
And back in 2020 he revealed all about what led to him becoming an airline captain for commercial airline Jet2.
“I had just recovered from my first broken leg and felt I was struggling to get back to full fitness at Scunthorpe,” Kell revealed in 2016.
“I was on a month to month contract and whilst waiting in the airport for a pre-season tour to Ireland I got talking to a pilot who was sat next to me.
“On my return I went to my nearest airport (Humberside) to make my initial enquiries.
“I had completed about 10-15 hours training, however my fitness returned, I signed a new contract and my pilots training was put on the ‘back burner’ for a time.
“Fortunately I was able to keep returning to my training at different times in my playing career.”
Kell believes that key skills he had as a footballer put him in good stead when it came to transitioning towards flying a plane.

He said: “I was analytical as a footballer and always wanted to learn more.
“Also, football gave me interpersonal skills. Being confined within the ‘tin box’ of a cockpit at 35,000 feet, means that I must be appreciative of my co pilots and other crew, who I have to interact with.
“Finally, I was a fairly technical player so my overall touch and hand/ eye coordination is a great attribute to have as a pilot, helping me instinctively know when to apply power and rudder.”
Kell jokes that he is as critical of his performance as a pilot as he was a footballer – and he analyses his performance in the cockpit just like he did on the pitch.
“Rather like being a footballer I always want to do the job to the best of my ability,” he said.
“I still sometimes think about my performance on the way home and how I can do my job better the next time.”
Making it as a footballer is a tough ask, every kid dreams of becoming one.
However, going on to become a pilot is equally as hard in what is a competitive industry.
“You can be different, but nothing worthwhile is easy,” Kell revealed.
“My chosen career was every bit as hard to get into as football and can be equally as competitive. However, if I had failed to gain my commercial pilot license I could still have gone and done something more mainstream and familiar.
“I didn’t want any niggling doubts or ‘what ifs’ later in life.”
    PFA HELP
When his premature retirement came knocking on the door, Kell was awarded a lump sum from the PFA.
They also gave him an educational grant that helped fund his aviation courses.
Kell said: “When I retired I put all my money into finishing my private licence off and going from one thing to the next; commercial licence, ground school etc.
“After I retired I received some insurance money and I thought I would never lay my hands on that sort of cash again so, rather than put an extension on my house or something like that, I thought ‘this is my career so let’s do something with it’.
“Aviation will last you up until you’re 60-65 years old so it’s a long-term investment.
“Footballers can get funnelled down the path of coaching or management but there is a lot more out there and it’s worked out really well for me.”
Kell has one piece of advice to pass on to players, especially in the lower leagues.
“My main advice would be that players only tend to think about an alternative career during difficult periods in their careers. Try and capitalize and think of your transition when things are going well.”

Roma star Tammy Abraham’s Wag is lifestyle vlogger Leah Monroe, who offers beauty tips on YouTube

TAMMY ABRAHAM has been in blistering form for Roma since leaving Chelsea. The striker has been making the news with his goals and displays at Roma in Serie A – breaking records in the process.
Leah Monroe is Tammy Abraham’s glamorous Wag
Abraham set a new scoring record for an English player in a single Italian season when he netted twice to score 17 goals in the league.
And he’s been cheered on by his camera-friendly Wag Leah Monroe, 22.
And the vlogger from London isn’t afraid to share her secrets, including the time she underwent plastic surgery.
Monroe filmed her lip filler experience at a Harley Street surgeon, admitting it was the first time she went under and she was petrified.
But the surgery was a success, and Monroe also revealed how she managed to cover up bruising she got.
She said: “The bruising was still there (after a few days), it didn’t lighten up a bit, but it was so easy to cover up with lip gloss.”

Michael Owen’s sad decline from England teen hero to Real Madrid flop and ‘most boring’ TV pundit

MICHAEL OWEN has gone from the golden boy of English football to being considered the ‘most boring pundit’ in the sport.Back in 2002, Liverpool star Owen was fresh off his Ballon d’Or victory having catapulted his career with that stunning goal against Argentina at the 1998 World Cup.

In 2019, Owen was involved in an explosive Twitter row with former pal Alan Shearer after the release of his autobiography last summer.
But where else to begin than with one of the most memorable goals in English football.
In Saint-Etienne, France, 22 years ago, an 18-year-old Owen went on the most memorable mazy run around a helpless Argentine defence before giving England the lead.

We are signing an excellent player with talent who is able to give us something special.”
But the move didn’t go as planned.
Owen was the subject of criticism from the Bernabeu fans and Spanish press due to his lack of form, and he spent much time as a substitute.
He left Spain after just a year, having scored 13 goals in 36 games, before returning to England with Newcastle United for £15million.
Over four years, Owen made just 71 appearances and scored only 26 goals for the Magpies.WHY AYE?

Having spent most of the season on the bench, Owen offered to resign and retire at Christmas but held on until the end of the season.’MOST BORING PUNDIT’

More
