Anthony Joshua no longer being treated ‘like God’ after training in an ‘extremely humble’ gym in Texas ahead of return

ANTHONY JOSHUA is no longer being treated “like God” after training in an “extremely humble” gym in Texas ahead of his return. AJ faces Jermaine Franklin in his comeback bout at the O2 Arena on April 1 following consecutive losses to Oleksandr Usyk.

Joshua, 33, parted ways with his coaches after defeat to Usyk in their August rematch and linked up with trainer Derrick James.
And for the first time in his career, the two-time heavyweight champion completed his training camp away from home.
Joshua set up shop in Dallas under the guidance of James, who also coaches pound-for-pound stars Errol Spence Jr, 33, and Jermell Charlo, 32.
AJ always denied ever receiving special treatment when working away alongside Olympic hopefuls in Team GB’s Sheffield base.

But after training away for the first time ever as a pro, promoter Eddie Hearn claimed AJ has reaped the rewards of getting out of his comfort zone.
Hearn told K.O. Artist Sports: “I see a guy that has worked really hard.
“He was very tired yesterday after a long camp out there. It’s hard for me to explain to you the difference in the camps that I saw.
“On the one side, he was at the Institute of Sport in England with lots of people and 10 rings and the Olympic setup and scientists.

“I went to Derrick James’ gym which is extremely humble and all you need, that’s the thing. I think that’s what made AJ realise.
“Errol Spence was in here yesterday and sparred, I think, 11 rounds. He doesn’t even have a fight. It’s just hard work.
“I feel like the problem with back home in England in that set-up was he was almost like God.
“He didn’t want it to be that way, but he would walk in, and he’d be in a situation where everyone would say, ‘What do you want to do, AJ?’
“Now, he’s just being told. He’s worked really hard, and he’s ready to fight on April 1st.”

Jamie and Rebekah Vardy’s gym at £2.5million mansion catches FIRE with blaze causing ‘severe damage’

JAMIE and Rebekah Vardy have been left devastated after a huge fire ripped through their farmhouse causing thousands of pounds worth of damage.Four fire crews tackled the blaze at their Grade II listed £2.5million country mansion in Lincolnshire which destroyed the gym of the Leicester City striker, 36, on Thursday afternoon, following an electrical fault.

It comes just four months after Becky, 40, who lost the Wagatha Christie libel trial to rival Coleen Rooney, 36, last year, was preparing to evacuate their holiday home in Portugal with their five kids after terrifying bushfires ripped through the country.
An insider said: “Jamie and Becky are in bits – especially given the year they have had with the court case.
“The glass shattered all over their lawn and right next to the football pitch which could have resulted in a nasty accident.
“They are still in complete shock but are counting their lucky stars that no one was hurt.”

Posting on her Instagram underneath a picture of two of her children, Becky said: “Every cloud and all that. Thankfully no one was hurt.
“Buildings and contents are replaceable and the kiddies enjoyed the fire engines. Thank you for being so brilliant Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue.”
A Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue spokesman said: “The fire resulted in severe damage to 90 per cent of the wooden outbuilding, which was used as a gym and the equipment inside.
“Crews used four breathing apparatus, one hose reel and one thermal imaging camera to extinguish the fire. It was caused by an electrical fault.”

Becky and Jamie were forced to move house in 2017 after the location of the former pad became public which caused fans and cranks to wait outside their gates and ring the buzzer.
But the couple still had to install a high-tech security system in their new mansion after they were targeted with death threats and sick online abuse.
Meanwhile, keen horsewoman Becky recently won her battle with planners to transform an existing agricultural paddock in the grounds of their home for equestrian use.
Officials gave the go-ahead for a ‘change of use’ of the land into a grazing paddock and stables last August after there were no objections from neighbours.
However the former I’m a Celeb star was ordered by the local council to keep it for private use only and not run as a commercial business.

Inside KSI’s brutal training schedule and strict diet ahead of boxing return as he prepares for Faze Temperrr fight

KSI has turned to healthy curries, sparring sessions and brutal track runs for his boxing return. The YouTube, music and celebrity prizefighter faces online rival Faze Temperrr on Saturday at Wembley Arena.
KSI makes his boxing return against Faze TemperrrCredit: Reuters
It comes six months after he beat rapper Swarmz, 26, and Mexican boxer Luis Alcaraz Pineda, 23, on the SAME NIGHT.
KSI continues to juggle a career as a boxer, content creator and business owner with his hectic daily schedule.
And here, the man himself gives SunSport an exclusive look into just how jam-packed a day in the life of KSI is.
    Morning
KSI: I’ll wake up around 8am and I’ll have breakfast around 8.30am.
    READ MORE IN BOXING
I’ll watch a bit of Philip DeFranco or John Oliver, chill for a little bit and then go to the car and head over to Shootfighters gym.
When I’m in the gym I’ll warm up on the rowing bike, do that for 100 calories, then I shadow box for four-six rounds.
Then we either work on technique, movement, things to improve on in sparring before bag and padwork.
I’ll do some cardio, I could go on the versaclimber or do various things with a heavy ball.
    Most read in Boxing
After that we’ll do abs, do a good circuit there and then I head back home to shower.
KSI training before his last fightCredit: Getty
    Afternoon
KSI: I’ll have lunch, watch anything, at the moment I’m watching The Legend of Vox Machina, which is actually really entertaining.
Then I’ll play games, Overwatch or Call of Duty, something like that.
If I have a bit of time I might record a YouTube video for my channel or I might record Reacts for Sidemen.
Afterwards, I’ll get ready for my second session, let’s say I’ll go on the track.
I’ll do 400 metre sprints, do that six times with one minute between and I’ll try and get good times.
It has to be under 1.20 every time, without fail. After that we’ll do bunny hops.
When this is finished I’ll head back home, shower, have dinner and chill. Maybe watch something, relax and then head to bed.

    Sparring
Getting the rounds in the gym is vitally important for KSI, who is still new to the sport, and insists his fame does not afford him mercy.
KSI: People would hold back, because they’d be like, ‘Oh, he’s a YouTuber, he’s not really a fighter, I don’t want to put my all into it.’
And then I hit hard and they’re like, ‘Oh s***, wait, what? What’s going on?’ Then they put more into it.
Then you’ve got other people that are like, ‘I want to make a statement, you’re not meant to be in this world, this scene is different, you’re not a fighter.’
When I’m able to go toe-to-toe with them it makes them have a new level of respect for me.
Before the Logan fights, I definitely didn’t spar enough. Now I spar every other day, I get about ten-plus rounds a week.
I don’t hold back on my sparring partners, so if they hold back they’re getting knocked down.
    Read More on The Sun
I make them go all out, just my intensity. I’m always in their face, I love a jab.
I love putting people on their backfoot, I’m not a guy who likes being on the backfoot. But I can fight on the backfoot when I need to.

How Mike Tyson grew 20-INCH neck by 18 through gruelling training technique that Anthony Joshua now copies

MIKE TYSON grew a 20-INCH neck by the age of 18 through a gruelling training technique. Boxers train the neck to increase their ability to take a punch.

And Tyson, the youngest heavyweight of all time aged 20, was no different in the gym.
He used a technique called neck bridges, which involve a rocking back and forth motion.
Even current boxing stars like Anthony Joshua, 33, have used the old school technique.
Tyson, now 55, remains one of the most celebrated fighters of all time, retiring in 2005.
    READ MORE IN BOXING
He did make a shock comeback in 2020 and drew with fellow legend Roy Jones Jr, 53, in an exhibition bout.
Tyson, who looks unlikely to fight again, used to consume anywhere from 3,000-4,000 calories a day.
He started his day early with a three to five-mile jog around 4am.
After two hours he would come back, shower and go to sleep again until about 10am, when it was time for breakfast.

By midday he would be in the gym for his first boxing session, which was normally ten straight rounds of sparring.
Tyson then did three sets of Calisthenics, including squats, tricep extensions, pushups, shrugs with 30 kilos and neck crunches.
Afterwards, at 2pm the heavyweight would then have lunch before returning back to the gym for more boxing.
This consisted of sparring, bag work, pads with his trainer, and an hour on the stationary bike as well as more Calisthenics.
At 5pm, Tyson would do four more sets of the same calisthenics routine and then slow shadow boxing, focusing on just ONE technique.
Two hours later he would have dinner, before his final session of the day at 8pm, which was a light 30 minutes on the exercise bike for recovery.
Tyson was in bed at 9pm, watching TV or studying fight films before hitting the hay.

How France hero Olivier Giroud, 36, defies his years with a strict diet and tough fitness plan to keep scoring

FRANCE forward Olivier Giroud continues to defy his years. The former Arsenal and Chelsea star was the match-winner against England – beating Harry Maguire to Antoine Griezmann’s header 12 minutes from time to set-up a semi-final date with Morocco.

While Giroud eats a balanced diet to stay on top of his game
Just like the age-less Cristiano Ronaldo, the 2018 World Cup winner has given longevity to his career with a strict diet plan and tough fitness routine.
And he eats plenty of fruit, vegetables, chicken and fish to maintain his incredible physique, while working overtime in the gym.
    YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT
Crucial to Giroud’s health and fitness plan is what he puts into his body.

The 6ft4in striker avoids processed foods, sugar and unhealthy oils – corn, canola, vegetable, and other chemically engineered cocktails.
He chows down on a variety of breakfasts, including bagels with strawberry jam, egg white and ham omelettes, or brown toast with scrambled eggs.
For lunch his options feature green Salad with mixed beans, salmon and rice, baked potato with tuna, or even a tuna pasta.
At dinner, he will have fish (sometimes haddock or tuna steak) with a broccoli, or chicken with green vegetables.
When it comes to eating, Giroud is very careful with what he puts into his body

Occasionally, he will go for a lean steak – with a mixed salad or steamed vegetables.
And because Giroud is so incredible active, he will snack regularly during the day.
Things he eats are dried fruit and nuts, muesli bars, popcorn and banana sandwiches.
    WORKING IT OFF
Of course, this high-energy diet gives Giroud plenty to burn off when he works out.
And when he’s not training with current club AC Milan at the Milanello Sports Centre, he is fully utilising his time off to stay fit with an action-packed routine.
He reportedly allows himself just one day off – a Wednesday.
Weekends, if he’s not playing, he will do cardio exercises and again rest.

According to his ex-manager Thomas Tuchel, Giroud trains like a 20-year-old

Giroud performs a burpee while training with ex-club ArsenalCredit: Getty Images – Getty
On Mondays, he’s bench pressing, lifting dumbbells and working his abs using a plate twist.
Tuesdays, he incorporates mountain climbers into his exercise, as well as squats and reverse grip push-ups.
Thursday, Giroud will continue with weight exercises, including a series of routines with dumbbells, close-grip EZ-Bar curls and three sets of pull-ups of five reps.
And for Friday, it’s burpees, a variety of squats, and plyometric lunges. The latter helps develop and improve lower body strength and power, as well as challenge dynamic stability and coordination.
    HIGH PRAISE
Last year, Giroud showed astonishing athleticism with a stunning overhead kick against Atletico Madrid while playing for Chelsea.
He became the oldest player to score in the knockout stages of the Champions League for the Blues at 34 years and 146 days.
But that didn’t surprise his former manager Thomas Tuchel, who was in awe of his striker’s approach to keeping himself in shape.
“If you see him on a daily basis, you cannot be surprised. He is totally fit, his body is in shape and his physicality is on top level,” Tuchel said in an interview back in 2021.
“He trains like a 20-year-old, like a 24-year-old. He is a guy who has a good mixture of serious and joy in training. He is always positive and it is a big factor for the group.”

With four goals in Qatar, Giroud has proven he is still one of the world’s leading forwards. Against Poland he broke France’s all-time scoring record held by Thierry Henry, and his goal against England was his 53rd for his country.
You wouldn’t put it past him to add to that total against Morocco on Wednesday. More
