      Anthony Joshua on FIFA 21 as playable character as fans get to use boxer in Volta mode

      WORLD heavyweight champion boxer Anthony Joshua will appear as a playable character in FIFA 21.
      Developers EA Sports have introduced a number of new measures to freshen up the football video game franchise that has sold more than 100million copies.

      And they have gone to great lengths this time to bring in a crossover including Joshua.

      DJ Diplo is another big star to feature in the diverse list of names from the “worlds of football, music, fashion and beyond”.
      Gamers will be able to play as the characters in FIFA’s Volta mode.

      Volta, brought in for FIFA 20, reintroduced the option to have five-a-side clashes.
      Players can take part in tournaments in a number of locations, make their own player (a Tyson Fury lookalike perhaps?) and recruit others to their team.
      Joshua and Diplo will feature as ‘groundbreakers’.
      This new feature lets players take on the famous names and gives them the chance to add them to their team.

      Some big names from football are included too.

      Players can add the likes of Kaka and Eric Cantona plus current stars such as Kylian Mbappe and Trent Alexander-Arnold to their squads.
      EA Sports recently put Joshua in a Fight Night simulation against Fury – with the Gypsy King demolishing his rival.
      The pair are set to meet in two blockbuster fights in 2020, with Fury recently teasing Joshua over his punching power.

      FIFA 21 demo AXED by EA Sports to focus on development for PS5 and Xbox Series X as fans fear game won’t be ready

      EA SPORTS have confirmed FIFA 21 will NOT be getting a demo – amid fans’ concerns over the upcoming release.
      The latest edition of the annual video game comes out on October 6 and is once again expected to sell millions of copies.

      As well as being released on the current generation of consoles, FIFA 21 is being developed for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, which both arrive in November.
      That has led American developer EA to focus further efforts on development for the next generation, cutting the traditional demo as a result.
      EA confirmed: “We aren’t releasing a demo for FIFA 21.
      “Instead we’ve made the decision to focus our development team’s time on delivering the best full game experience for current & next-gen consoles.”

      The decision to bring out a full FIFA title this year contrasts with PES developer Konami, who are releasing a cut-price ‘season update’ game with minimal changes ahead of a full revamp in 2021.
      Both games, along with other annual sporting titles, have faced growing criticism over a lack of improvement between seasons.
      EA’s American Football game, Madden 21, came in for particularly poor reviews after its release last month.
      And, following the demo cancellation, fans are concerned that FIFA faces the same fate.

      PSG president Nasser al-Khelaifi on trial in Switzerland over corruption charges for Fifa TV rights deal

      PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN president Nasser al-Khelaifi and former Fifa general secretary Jerome Valcke went on trial over corruption changes on Monday.
      The trial of the pair and Greek marketing executive Dinos Deris in Bellinzona, Switzerland, is expected to last two weeks.

      Qatari Al-Khelaifi, also head of broadcaster beIN Media Group, is accused of inciting Valcke to commit “aggravated criminal mismanagement” of TV rights deal.
      The court will hear that al-Khelaifi, now a member of Uefa’s executive committee, gave Valcke the use of his luxury villa.  
      Valcke and Deris face separate accusations of bribery.
      The former Fifa chief, banned from football in 2018, is said to have taken more than £1m in kickbacks over rights deals.

      Evidence in chief will begin on Tuesday.
      Fifa will help fund a global agency to tackle corruption in sport, its president Gianni Infantino said today.
      Creating a body like the World Anti-Doping Agency to address financial corruption, match-fixing and the influence of organised crime in sport has been talked about for more than a decade without a detailed proposal.

      Infantino said: “We at Fifa are ready to invest in it.”

      PSG have also suffered problems on the pitch as well as off it having lost their opening two Ligue 1 games this season.
      Three of their players were sent off in the 1-0 defeat against Marseille on Sunday after a huge brawl erupted in injury time.

      FIFA threatens non-profit walking football group with legal action over ‘similar’ name

      FIFA has threatened a walking football group with legal action over its “similar” name.
      The world football governing body wants The Federation of International Walking Football Associations to choose another to avoid “consumer confusion”.

      In a letter, it is demanding non-profit FIWFA also renames its planned “World Cup” in Manchester next year in case it “jeopardises Fifa’s ability to organise future Fifa World Cups”.
      FIWFA chiefs were stunned at the requests and accompanying legal threats.
      They launched in 2018 for people in their 50s, 60s and 70s — many of them recovering from illness.
      Their game is non-contact with no running or offside.

      There are 60,000 or so players in England and 53 countries play the game.
      FIWFA chief exec Paul Carr, 65, who plays for Wigan Walkers, said: “The bullying nature of Fifa’s letter was staggering.
      “We’ve no intention to be like Fifa and we’ve never experienced any confusion.
      “I don’t expect fans to be flying in expecting to see Ronaldo and Messi at our next event. We’re not wealthy like Fifa yet we’re in a position where we have to fight this or fold to it.”

      Fifa’s letter adds that the similar names means “there is a risk that the value of sponsorship is undermined.”
      It has hired UK lawyers.
      A spokesperson said: “Like any trademark owner, Fifa is following standard procedures that are key to protect its brands.

      The release of top 100 best-rated players has caused a stir among the stars with some delighted by their new rating and some, like Lukaku, left fuming.

      The yearly release of the information ahead of the new FIFA game has become notable for professional players raging at what they see as harsh ratings.
      And the ex-United striker reckons its all to drum up publicity for the popular footy game.
      He tweeted: “Let’s be honest FIFA just mess with the ratings so we players start complaining about the game and give them more publicity… I ain’t with this s***. I know what I do.”
      His complaints came despite the fact he was downgraded by only ONE point from last year’s edition.

      The Inter Milan star is rated as an 85 overall in FIFA 21, which is just behind his 86 rating on the previous FIFA 20.
      But the score does place him behind the likes of Jamie Vardy and his Serie A opponent Ciro Immobile.
      The Belgian enjoyed a great first season in Serie A after being sold by Manchester United.
      He hit 23 goals in 36 Serie A matches and broke European records by scoring in 10 consecutive Europa League matches.

      Only EA Sports will know why his stock has not risen after a fantastic season on the pitch.
      Meanwhile, Atletico Madrid’s Jan Oblak was the highest rated goalkeeper and clocked up an incredible score of 91.
      It puts him only behind outfield wizards Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Robert Lewandowski, Kevin De Bruyne and Neymar.
      He even managed to get ahead the Liverpool trio of Virgin Van Dijk, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane and PSG’s wonderkid Kylian Mbappe.
      Meanwhile, Trent Alexander-Arnold has seen an outstanding year at Liverpool bear fruit in his new rating.
      The talented right-back could hardly fend off a grin when presented with his new FIFA card.
      The only thing that surprised him was his underwhelming shooting score of 66 – despite hitting three goals from direct free-kicks last season.
      The title-winning defender quipped to the BBC: “Maybe they put that in there because it’s my squad number.”
      Manchester City’s Aymeric Laporte was named FIFA’s fourth-best centre back – but was irked by the game giving him a pace rating of only 63.

      He shared his grievances with a hilarious social media post of his reaction.
      The game is set to be released on October 9 this year, with early access on October 6 to those who pre-order.

      Messi, meanwhile, still sits on top of the pile despite seeing his rating fall from 94 to 93 after a trophyless season with Barcelona.
      That puts him just ahead of Juventus superstar Cristiano Ronaldo on 92 – also a decrease from last year’s instalment.
      The Portugal captain will also be representing Piemonte Calcio in FIFA 21 once again for licensing reasons.
      Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski is one of four players rated 91.

      The Polish striker has effectively replaced Eden Hazard, who had been given the same score as the FIFA 20 cover star.
      Yet the former Chelsea man has dropped from fourth to outside the top ten following a difficult first season with Real Madrid.
      Kevin De Bruyne has been crowned the Premier League’s best player just days after his PFA Player of the Year award.
      The Belgian assist king – who has an outstanding passing mark of 93 – joins Lewandowski, Paris Saint-Germain ace Neymar and Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak with a 91 rating in FIFA 21.

      Liverpool’s title-winning trio Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane all have 90 ratings on the game.
      Jurgen Klopp’s men are also joined by PSG superstar and FIFA 21 poster boy Kylian Mbappe.
      The game is set to be released on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and Microsoft Windows on October 9.

      FIFA will reportedly side with Lionel Messi in the wantaway star’s exit clause war with Barcelona.
      Following the Argentine striker’s transfer request to leave the Camp Nou, the club are fiercely demanding any prospective bidders meet his release clause.

      With Messi’s buyout standing at an inconceivable £630million, the 33-year-old is said to have enacted a clause allowing him to leave for free.
      The stipulation applied to the end of the 2019/20 campaign, which was delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
      And Barcelona have reportedly told Messi it has expired – potentially setting in motion a huge legal battle.

      With the June 10 deadline passed, the player’s entourage believe a natural extension is enforceable due to the pandemic.

      And, according to El Pais, Fifa will not stand in their way if they hit the eject button.
      The Spanish newspaper claim to have been told by sources inside football’s governing body that it has no precedent to prevent Messi from leaving.
      In the last 15 years, there have been no interventions from Fifa or the Court of Arbitration for Sport on cases that would apply to dealing with this latest saga.
      As a result, Messi would only have to apply to Fifa’s Transfer Matching System to fill out the relevant documentation and complete a move.

      However, the transfer may not be that simple with Barcelona reportedly planning to take the matter to the courts.
      A negotiated agreement is still possible but the exact fee may be taken out of both parties’ hands if the dispute enters the Barcelona legal system.
      Catalan media reports suggest a compromised fee of £199m will be accepted by the LaLiga giants to allow their talisman a transfer.
      Newspaper Sport also note that, were Messi to make an unlikely move across Spain, Fifa’s influence would be diminished further as the country’s laws would take precedence over the Swiss organisation’s.
      Should the striker get his wish, Manchester City appear best-placed to secure his services.
      Financial Fair Play is reportedly a big factor in the ability of Pep Guardiola’s side to complete a deal however, with Inter Milan and Paris Saint-Germain watching keenly.

      FIFA’S The Best awards are set to go ahead this year, claims Bayern Munich’s chairman.

      But Bayern chief Karl-Heinz Rummenigge insists Fifa’s president Gianni Infantino is planning for the governing body’s version of the award to go ahead as usual.
      Rummenigge told Kicker: “According to a statement by the President of Fifa, this award should take place.
      “Gianni Infantino told me that the award should be given to the best player, the best goalkeeper and the best coach. That is very welcome.”
      The prestigious best men’s player gong – now in its fifth year – was won by Cristiano Ronaldo in 2016 and 2017 before Luka Modric and then Lionel Messi.

      And Rummenigge has a particular interest in this year’s awards being handed out… because Robert Lewandowski is the favourite – just as he was for the Ballon d’Or.
      The Bayern Munich and Poland striker, 31, has been in sensational form this year.
      He has 54 goals for the season so far, with potentially two matches still to go – Bayern face Lyon in the Champions League semi-finals.
      That figure includes 24 in 2020 alone, despite a three-month suspension to the season.

      It’s a disgrace that they have taken the Ballon d’Or away for this year.

      BT Sport pundit Rio Ferdinand even joked Lewandowski should start a petition to get the annual awards on this year.
      The Ballon d’Or was axed due to the “lack of sufficient fair conditions” with some seasons being cut short, matches played behind closed doors and five substitutions.
      Ferdinand said: “If I’m Lewandowski and they have cancelled the Ballon d’Or, I’m starting up a petition to get it back on.

      “I can’t believe they have cancelled it. It’s cruel. Lewandowski deserves to win that award for what he has done this season and if he leads Bayern Munich to the Champions League and they still decide they won’t give it out to him, it’s not right.
      “I think it’s a disgrace that they have taken it away for this year.
      “Why can’t they give the award out, even if they don’t have a big ceremony to hand it over like they normally do? I think it’s really out of order.”
