‘It was very short lived’ – Lewis Hamilton reveals Ferrari flirtation was over in no time and Mercedes ‘are like family’

LEWIS HAMILTON has shared his pride in being part of Mercedes and revealed he never seriously considered a move to Ferrari. The Brit, 36, said the idea of switching to Ferrari was “very short-lived” as he has always been happy with his current team.

As well as the success he has enjoyed, Hamilton praised the teamwork and loyalty of those he works with and the family feel to the team.
Hamilton told RacingNews365.com: “I have no reason to think about it (joining Ferrari).
“It was a part of…each end of term you have to do your due diligence and see what options you have and I’m really proud of what I have and where I am with Mercedes.
“I think I’ve said it before, it was very short-lived, the idea of going to Ferrari was short-lived in a sense that when you are with Mercedes, you are with a family for life.
“If you look at all the historic drivers who have driven for Mercedes, they have been with them until they’re in their 90s and that is something that you don’t see in any other team, with any other brand.
“So that is something that I am very proud of. Plus, we have achieved more than anybody and that is down to great teamwork, that is down to loyalty and so I don’t take that for granted.”
Hamilton was speaking in reaction to comments from Stefano Domenicali revealing he wanted to sign the Mercedes star when he was Ferrari team principal.

But a move never materialised for Hamilton, who switched to Mercedes from McLaren in 2013.
It has brought him a great deal of success, winning the Formula One world championships six times in eight years.
He is vying for an eighth record-breaking title this year, but to do so he may have to overcome another grid penalty at the U.S. Grand Prix.

Lewis Hamilton shocked he has never raced for Ferrari during F1 career and admits ‘it’s not really been possible’

LEWIS HAMILTON has admitted his surprise at never making the move to Ferrari. As the grandest name of Formula One over the decades, the Scuderia have previously employed legends including Michael Schumacher, Juan Manuel Fangio and Fernando Alonso.
Lewis Hamilton has opened up on his relationship with FerrariCredit: Splash
But British star Hamilton has never stepped into the famous red overalls, and has not even been close to doing so.
Links have emerged, most recently amid his domination of the sport with Mercedes when Ferrari was seen as a career swansong for the 36-year-old.
Yet he is under contract with the German marque until the end of 2023 and has described a switch to the Prancing Horse as ‘never really possible’.
Speaking to Sky Italia, via GPToday, he noted: “For years, whenever I come to Monza and see the fans, I hear them saying, ‘Come to Ferrari!’.
“It warms my heart but it’s pretty amazing that I’ve never driven for Ferrari after so many years. Because it’s a dream for everyone, a goal to be achieved.
“It’s never really been possible and I will never quite know exactly why.

“I wish them the best and in the near future I will just have to stop them from winning the world championship instead [laughs].
“I have a couple of Ferraris at home that I can drive, but not the F1 Ferrari.”
Hamilton was signed to McLaren from a young age and raced for six years with the British team, winning the 2008 world title.

McLaren’s decline coincided with old team-mate Fernando Alonso joining Ferrari and a renewal of their fiery relationship was not on the cards.
In 2013, he replaced Michael Schumacher at Mercedes with the goal of turning the team into serious world title contenders.
Hamilton achieved that, and then some, swooping to his second crown in his second campaign with the Mercs – leaving Ferrari in his wake to this day.

CRISTIANO RONALDO faces incurring the wrath of Juventus fans after skipping training to visit Ferrari’s factory in Maranello. The 36-year-old decided to give himself Monday off – just a day after the crushing 3-0 defeat against AC Milan that leaves their Champions League dreams hanging by a thread.

Andrea Pirlo’s side dropped out of the top four following the loss, as they sit in fifth spot with just three games to go.
And instead of taking part in a recovery session ahead of Wednesday’s away trip to Sassuolo, Ronaldo showed up at Maranello – home of Ferrari’s F1 headquarters.
He was accompanied by club chairman Andrea Agnelli and the 45-year-old’s cousin John Elkann, who is the CEO of Exor and Ferrari.
Exor is the holding run by the Agnelli family that controls both Juventus and Ferrari.
Whilst at Ferrari’s HQ, Ronaldo posed for a photo with F1 drivers Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz, who were given signed Juve shirts.
And according to Corriere della Serra, Ronaldo treated himself to a Ferrari Monza worth £1.4million.
Milan striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic is also a proud owner of the limited edition vehicle having bought it for his 38th birthday in 2019.
Ronaldo’s supercar is just the latest in his collection that also includes an £8.5m Bugatti Centodieci as well as a Bugatti Chiron and Veyron.

Manager Andrea Pirlo only pockets £1.6million-per-year after taking charge of the club
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner’s future in Turin is in question with Juve on the brink of having to settle for the Europa League.
Despite the Italian side suffering in Serie A this season, Ronaldo has starred, with the ex-Manchester United ace the league’s top scorer with 27 goals in 31 games.
But it could be his last campaign in Italy as Juve may cash in on the player with Ronaldo having just a year left on his contract.
Should they miss out on the Champions League, Juventus wouldn’t be able to afford his mammoth £28m-a-year salary.
The Euro 2016 winner has been linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain to play alongside Neymar and Kylian Mbappe.
And there have even speculation that he could return to either Real Madrid, Sporting Lisbon or the Red Devils.

F1 star Charles Leclerc confident Ferrari are showing ‘promising signs’ to bounce back from worst finish in 40 years

CHARLES LECLERC is confident Ferrari are showing ‘promising signs’ as they look to bounce back from last season.
The Italian team endured their worst finish in 40 years as they were sixth in the constructors’ championship.

Charles Leclerc is feeling confident with how Ferrari are shaping up ahead of the new seasonCredit: Reuters

But after a winter of tweaking their car design, Leclerc says they are making improvements.
He said: “The impressions were good again.
“Yesterday we went through all the programme in the morning, but the conditions are very very tricky.
“It’s very warm, and very windy, so it’s very difficult to make a comparison with last year for now.

“And it’s all relative to the others, how much they improved compared to us.
“But yeah, there are some promising signs, but we can’t know until the first qualifying.”
The big issue Ferrari faced last year was their under-strength engine, which Leclerc said was also an improvement this new F1 season.
He added: “Everything feels quite good.

“But again, it’s very difficult to comment now, nobody’s pushing everything to its limit, especially in these conditions.
“So for now it’s early days. But everything feels good and, as I said, stacks up with what we expected.”

Ferrari 2021 F1 car labelled ‘ugliest on grid’ as fans slam green stripes and burgundy rear wing

FERRARI fans are in a spin after the they launched their challenger for 2021 – which features a splash of green.
The Italian F1 team is synonymous with the colour red.

But this season contains a green logo on the engine cover belonging to that of sponsors Mission Winnow, which is owned by tobacco giant Philip Morris International.
Philip Morris, who’s major brand, Marlboro cigarettes, used to feature so heavily on the Ferrari and McLaren cars when tobacco advertising was legal.
And fans are not happy with the new colour scheme that goes from red to burgundy at the rear, with green on the top, with some likening it to a red chilli pepper.
One fan Tweeted: “Ferrari have made it! And by it I mean the ugliest car on the grid.

“I don’t know what is worse: the green logo or the burgundy rear.”
Another wrote: “You have got to give it to Ferrari! They really know how to let down the fans.”
Despite their estimated £400million budget last season, Ferrari plunged to sixth in the constructors’ championship in 2020.
It was the worst result in four decades, amid season-long issues with its car while Sebastian Vettel was also given the boot.

The car has weak aerodynamics and was limp due to an engine rules change following a controversial FIA investigation.
The details of that report were hushed up and kept private between the team and the FIA – much to the frustration of their rivals.
But team boss Mattia Binotto is hopeful that the winter redesign will improve the team’s performance along with a fresh driver pairing of Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc.
He said: “This car was born out of last year’s car due to the new regulations so it was partially frozen, but we tried to improve it in all of its areas, wherever it was possible.
“The aerodynamics was revised, and it has a completely new power unit.
“Its livery has also changed, the posterior is a burgundy colour similar to the very first Ferrari racing car, the 125S.
“It’s the same colour we used last year at Mugello to celebrate our 1000th Grand Prix. This year is going to be full of challenges.”

The ten greatest F1 drivers of all-time – according to SunSport’s motorsport correspondent Ben Hunt
It is the team’s youngest driver line-up since 1968 as Sainz 26, and Leclerc 23, get to grips with their new motor at three days of testing in Bahrain starting on Friday.
Racing Director, Laurent Mekies, added: “There’s plenty of positive energy coming from our two drivers.
“Carlos has spent a lot of time in the factory and has integrated with the team very quickly.
“As for Charles, he is already perfectly at home with the team: he knows what he wants and is also very aware of the role he has in the team, both in and out of the car.
“Over the winter, we have witnessed the two guys getting on very well together and this can only be a good thing for the whole team.”
Meanwhile, Aston Martin launched their car for 2021 earlier this month with a little help from James Bond star Daniel Craig and Gemma Arterton.
And Williams were forced to delay their virtual car unveiling after their app was hacked.
Elsewhere, Haas were criticised after showing off their new ‘Russian flag’ livery.

A 4-point safety harnesses, Alcantara central tunnel, headliner in Alcantara, coloured steering wheel, yellow rev counter plus loads of carbon fibre add ons.

Modelled on the BMW 507 used by James Bonds in the film ‘The World Is Not Enough’, the Z8 took ten-times longer to produce than a contemporary BMW as it was primarily assembled by hand.
The most desired colour was Titan Silver metallic, of which only 1,895 examples were produced.
