England’s 1966 World Cup stars as rich as Kane and Co? No, their lives were much Moore modest

WHEN, God-willing, England lift the Euro trophy tomorrow, the heroes who ended 55 years of hurt are assured fame and fortune.Five decades may have passed, but the players who won the World Cup in 1966 seem to have been living on another planet.

Agents for Harry Kane and his team will long ago have negotiated eye-watering bonuses from bosses at the English FA for taking the honours at Wembley tomorrow night.
But in 1966, in the bowels of the famous London stadium while the rest of the team were recovering after their 4-2 extra-time win over Germany, team captain Bobby Moore slipped out of the dressing room.
He went to meet FA chiefs who told him — with no negotiations back then — that the players would share a total bonus of £22,000.
Moore decided each man would get £1,000, whether they had played in the tournament or not. He told his teammates: “We were all in this together and that’s how it will stay.”

While our present-day England stars earn millions, have lucrative sponsorship deals and live in gated mansions, things were very different back in 1966.
    ‘Players of the people’
Then, they were on around 80 quid a week — and felt LUCKY. Because only four years earlier the £20-a-week cap on players’ wages had been lifted — and they were now earning five times the average worker’s pay.
The team’s youngest member, winger Alan Ball, was one of the few players with a kit deal.
    Bobby Moore vs Harry Kane
MOORE: Aged 22 (died 1993). Pay:  £80 a week. Home: £3,000  semi in Chingford, Essex. Car: Jaguar. Family: Divorced wife Tina in 1986 after 22 years, two kids. Honours: OBE.
KANE: Aged 27. Pay: £180k a week – likely to rise to £300k.  Home: Rented London apartment for £15,000 a week. Car: Range Rover, Jaguar, Bentley. Family:  Married to childhood sweetheart Kate Goodland, three kids. Honours:  MBE  – but knighthood if we win.

At 9.30 on the morning of the ’66 game, he went to see an Adidas rep staying at the team hotel.
Ball, who only 45 minutes earlier had learned he was playing, collected £1,000 —  enough for a new car —  for wearing Adidas boots in the game.
Centre back Jack Charlton, on the other hand, got just £100 from his bootmaker. The FA had done a  deal with Marks & Spencer and the team travelled to the game in St Michael suits.
In ’66 Arthur Edwards was a young photographer on the local East London paper and took pictures of Moore and World Cup final goal scorers Geoff Hurst and Martin Peters. Arthur, now The Sun’s royal photographer recalls: “They’d invite me to their homes to take pictures and never asked for a penny and there was no agents making demands.
“It was a different world back then. They were players of the people.”
Hurst was living in a £3,000 semi in Chigwell and returned home to wife Judith after England’s victory — and mowed the lawn.
Moore’s wife Tina recalled: “After the match, we went back to our semi in Essex and held a party for some of our close friends. It wasn’t anything fancy, just a few drinks and a bit of music for a couple of hours.
    Gordon Banks vs Jordan Pickford
BANKS: Aged 28 (died 2019). Pay: £60 a week with Leicester, plus gate money. Home: £3,000 1930s  semi. Car: Ford Consul. Family: Wife Ursula, a West German who supported England, three kids. Honours: OBE.
PICKFORD: Aged 27. Pay: £150,000 a week at Everton. Home: £2.1million  mansion in Cheshire. Car: £160,000 Lamborghini Urus 4×4. Family: Wife Megan Davison, one son. Honours: None.

“After everyone left, it all felt a bit flat. Bobby poured himself a lager while I cleared away the glasses.
“I suppose Bobby and I did start to experience some things similar to footballers and their wives nowadays.
“After the World Cup, people wanted to take photos of us, and we had offers coming in from every direction.
“We got a telegram from composer Lionel Bart, inviting us to a party with Tom Jones and Joan Collins.
“Bobby got a contract modelling for Hornes Brothers, a men’s outfitters. He bought us a Jaguar — a car he had always longed for — and we had the house of our dreams built on a plot of land on the best street in Chigwell.”
Hurst, who was later knighted, also bought a bigger house — for £12,750. Liverpool striker Roger Hunt returned to his home in Culcheth, near Warrington, to find his lawn had been trampled by 600 fans chanting ‘Eey aye adio, we won the Cup!’
    Geoff Hurst vs Declan Rice
HURST: Aged 24 (now 79). Pay: £80 a week at West Ham. Home: £3,000 three-bed semi in Chingford. Car: Ford Anglia. Family: Married Judith in 1964, three daughters. Honours: Knighted in 1998.
RICE: Aged 22. Pay: £60,000 a week at West Ham. Expected to double after Euros. House: Mansion in Surrey. Car: Range Rover. Family: Girlfriend Lauren Fryer, no kids. Honours: None.

In 1966, Bobby Charlton also lived in Cheshire, in a modest detached home in Knutsford.
Today’s team are staying at England’s posh St George’s training facilities at Burton on Trent with its pools, gyms and even an oxygen chamber. A huge staff including chefs and nutritionists tend to their needs.
In July 1966, England’s squad plus two coaches and manager Alf Ramsey, stayed at the Hendon Hall Hotel, where the team ate the same menu as the other guests. For lunch before the final, the players had chicken, apart from Moore who had beans on toast.
To relax, they went shopping and played cards and cricket or sunbathed in the grounds.
There was no ring of steel around the players, like today.
    Wags ate burgers
Back then fans could stop and chat to them in the grounds, or hail them in the streets nearby while they went shopping.
The players’ wives had to stay at home and wait for their husbands or boyfriends to phone after training.
Fulham full-back George Cohen’s wife Daphne was left at home with their baby  Andrew for eight weeks while England trained for the tournament. She recalled: “I couldn’t call George at the team hotel — I didn’t even know the number.
“I had to write letters and wait for him to call. Alf Ramsey made it clear wives should keep away.”
The night before the big match, Ramsey took his team to the local cinema in Hendon to see the film Those Magnificent Men In Their Flying Machines.
    Alf Ramsay vs Gareth Southgate
RAMSEY: Aged 46 (died 1999). Pay: £4,500 a year. Home: Mock Tudor semi in Ipswich. Car: Austin 1100. Family: Married to Rita Norris, one dachshund. Honours: Knighthood, statues at Ipswich and Wembley.
SOUTHGATE: Aged 50. Pay: £3million a year. Home: £3.5m haunted 16th Century mansion near Harrogate. Cars: Bentley and Aston Martin. Family: Married to Alison, two girls. Honours: OBE – but Sir Gareth if we win.

On the day of the match the wives, who were given two tickets each, had to make their own way to Wembley.
Pat Wilson, wife of left-back Ray, left their two children with her mum in Liverpool to drive to London for the final.
She said: “I picked up Bobby Charlton’s wife Norma on the way, but halfway down the motorway the exhaust went on our Ford Zephyr.”
Following the victory, the team were whisked to a banquet at the Royal Garden Hotel in Kensington. Their wives and girlfriends made their own way there to discover they were not allowed in — although Pickles, the dog that found the stolen World Cup trophy four months earlier, was.

Instead, they ate burgers in a restaurant downstairs.
Daphne Cohen, who had hitched a lift to Wembley said: “I remember passing the banqueting suites and feeling a little fed up that we didn’t even get a ticket for the tearoom.”
But the FA did thank the Wags for their sacrifice during the tournament —  presenting each with a pair of scissors in a box.

How an early investment in England star Raheem Sterling has paid dividends

IT was the blissful smile of a man with all of England at his feet. When star winger Raheem Sterling whipped a close-range shot against the flailing legs of the Denmark keeper in the dying seconds of Wednesday’s Euro 2020 semi-final win, he did not grimace or swear at a missed chance to seal the match.
Raheem beams after an extra-time shot is saved against Denmark in the semi
Raheem with fiancé Paige with whom he has two children
He simply raised his hands to his head and flashed the radiant grin of a man whose childhood dream was to be “King of Wembley”.
Known as Raz to his fellow players, 26-year-old Raheem personifies the sense of fun and solidarity the England team has tapped into.
Amid the sweat and toil, it appeared he was simply relishing the occasion as the final whistle neared.
And the internet has exploded in love for a player who had described himself as the #TheHatedOne in an Instagram post at Euro 2016.
After the latest victory at this Euros, one tweeter wrote: “I dote on Raheem Sterling’s wondrous and sweet smile.”
Another added: “Raheem Sterling: A god among men with the smile of an ANGEL.”
Wembley had rocked to a bespoke version of song Freed From Desire by Gala in homage to Raheem.
“Sterling’s on fire,” the crowd sang. “Your defence is terrified.”
The Manchester City star has been England’s best player in the tournament, spearheading the team’s assent to their first major final in 55 years.
With 67 England caps already under his belt, he is a national role model on and off the field.
He’s the same lad he was when he was 16. He’s great to have around the place. He’s vocal. He’s a leader on the pitchJordan Pickford
Last month he was awarded an MBE for his efforts in fighting for racial equality.
Before the game, captain Harry Kane said: “People maybe underestimate him as a person and as a leader.”
Goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, who first played alongside Raheem when they were teenagers, said: “He’s the same lad he was when he was 16. He’s great to have around the place.
“He’s vocal. He’s a leader on the pitch.”
For his part, Sterling has not forgotten his roots on his heady rise to England immortality.
His tweets during the tournament have been signed off with the hashtag #BoyfromBrent.
Like something from a tear-jerking movie, Raheem grew up just a decent goal kick away from Wembley Stadium in North West London.
He told the Players’ Tribune website: “I grew up in the shadow of my dream. Literally.
“I watched the new Wembley stadium go up from my back garden.
“One day, I walked outside and I saw this massive arch in the sky. It was rising up over the top of the housing estates like a mountain.
“I used to kick about in this green right by my house, and I could take a shot on goal then turn round to celebrate and the Wembley arch would literally be right above my head. It was like you were there.

“I was really like, I can play there. I can do it.”
As well as dreaming of being “the King of Wembley one day”, Raheem even has a tattoo of the stadium’s iconic 133-metre arch on his forearm.
But to realise his dream, he had to battle tragedy, poverty and adversity.
Born in Kingston, Jamaica, Raheem Shaquille Sterling began life sharing a three-bedroom bungalow with his ten-strong extended family.
His father, Phillip Slater, was gunned down in 1996 in Jamaica when Raheem was just two years old after being wrongly caught up in a gang turf war.
The star would later say that losing his dad, “shaped my entire life”.
When he was four, his mum Nadine Clarke travelled to the UK to forge a new life for her family.
He used to kick a juice carton aroundJoy Morris
He and elder stepsister Lakima were cared for by his gran, Joy Morris.
She said of her grandson: “His life hasn’t been easy. It was a tough place to grow up and he had to be sharp.
“We didn’t have lots of money but we were a very close family and we helped one another out with raising the children.
“His love for football came from playing at the front of the house when he was three. He used to kick a juice carton around.”
Raheem and Lakima then joined their mum in London, where she worked as a cleaner to help pay for a degree course.
Sterling remembers waking at 5am before school to help his mum clean toilets at a hotel in North London.

Lakima was also instrumental in helping him achieve his dreams, travelling miles by three buses to get him to football training.
Raheem told Players Tribune: “Mum would never let me go to training alone. And she always had to work, so my sister would have to take me all the way out to Heathrow.
“Three buses. The 18 to the 182 to the 140. The red double-deckers with the blue wool Eighties vibe on the seats. Spent ages on those.
“We’d leave at 3.15pm and get home at 11pm. Every. Single. Day. She’d sit upstairs in the little cafe and chill until I was done with training.
“Imagine being 17 years old and doing that for your little brother. And I never once heard her say, ‘Nah, I don’t wanna take him’.
“At the time, I didn’t understand how much she was sacrificing.”
Aged eight, Raheem was referred to Vernon House, a school for children struggling because of behavioural issues.
He’s as humble as they come. It was never about the money, it was about the football. He was one of the nicest boys I’ve ever mentoredClive Ellington
There he was assigned mentor Clive Ellington, who he credits with kickstarting his career.
The youth worker said: “I took him to the park one day and I thought, ‘He’s got something about him’, he was outshining all the others.”
Raheem was not even playing for a team at the time, so Clive invited him to a training session at local club Alpha & Omega FC.
Clive added: “As coaches we stood there, arms folded, just thinking ‘What on earth have we unearthed here?’, because he was a gem.”
And he insists that Raheem has never been motivated by money.
He said: “He never discussed money or cars. He’s as humble as they come. It was never about the trimmings, it was about the football.
“He was one of the nicest boys I’ve ever mentored.”
When Clive drove his young protege to games he would hold out a pen as a pretend microphone and say: “Raheem Sterling, how do you feel about making your debut for England at 16?”

Raheem would look at him, “like I was a nutter”.
But Clive was only a year out, as Raheem made his Three Lions debut aged 17 against Sweden.
The star says of his mentor: “He was the person who made me realise there’s more to life than being a naughty kid.”
The 5ft 7in striker joined QPR at the age of 11 and moved to Liverpool at 15 in a £500,000 deal.
Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard told The Times: “He was a very respectful kid. He was someone who hung on to every word.
“He always wanted to learn, he used to take information on.”
In 2015, then an England regular, he joined Manchester City in a £50million deal.
Shortly before the 2018 World Cup he was pictured with a tattoo of an MI6 assault rifle on his right leg.
Raheem explained on Instagram: “When I was two my father died from being gunned down.
“I made a promise to myself I would never touch a gun in my lifetime. I shoot with my right foot, so it has a deeper meaning.”
When the dust finally settles on his stellar career, he will perhaps be remembered as much for fighting racism as the trophies he has won.
Having been subjected to a barrage of abuse, he has used his profile to call for equality.
When some fans booed the England players for taking the knee before games, he expressed his “disappointment”.
Now reportedly earning £300,000 a week, Raheem lives with his fiancée Paige Milian, 26, and their sons, Thiago, three, and Thai-Cruz, one, in a Cheshire village.

When England reached the semi-finals of the 2018 World Cup, Raheem had failed to find the net.
Now, with three goals already this time, the smiling “King of Wembley” returns to his beloved Brent for Sunday’s final, ready to take his place among England’s sporting immortals.

England legend Peter Shilton backs England to beat the Danes in Euro 2020 clash and salutes keeper Jordan Pickford

FOOTIE great Peter Shilton has backed England to beat the Danes tonight — and to go on to win Euro 2020 without Jordan Pickford conceding a goal. The goalie, 71, saluted current keeper Pickford’s incredible five-game clean-sheet tally — a record for Euros tournaments.

And the Three Lions’ most-capped star said the Everton stopper, 27, could even hold firm until captain Harry Kane lifted our first trophy in 55 years on Sunday.
Shilts, who played in two European Championships and three World Cups, told The Sun: “England should have enough to beat the Danes and won’t fear whoever they play in the final.
“To go all the way and win it without leaking a single goal would be astonishing — but this team can do it. Jordan Pickford is on the cusp of becoming a great goalkeeper and has had a terrific tournament. He seems to play better in an England shirt.
“He’s stepped up when it mattered but hasn’t had a lot to do thanks to the hard work and skill of the players in front of him. It’s been incredible to see a team reach the semi-finals without conceding and they’re just two games away from achieving the ultimate.
They can do it and lift the trophy in style — then win the World Cup next year.Peter Shilton
“They can do it and lift the trophy in style — then win the World Cup next year. That’s how good they are.”
England are the only Euro 2020 side yet to concede, with clean sheets in their three group games against Croatia, Scotland and Czech Republic.
Pickford also kept the ball out of his own net in the last 16 match against Germany and the 4-0 quarter-final demolition of Ukraine.

It is a feat never achieved by any national team in the history of European Championship football.
England were 25/1 long-shots with bookies to not concede before the semis at the start of the tournament — and 200/1 to win it without leaking a goal. Those odds have now crashed to 4/1 with two games to go.
And Shilts is convinced the sound defensive performances will be the bedrock of a push for England’s first tournament glory since 1966. He said: “Jordan Pickford has stepped up when it mattered.
“But, in truth, he hasn’t been called upon many times because he’s a cog in a very effective defence which has worked brilliantly so far. He’s pulled off a string of fine saves — particularly one against Scotland when it really mattered — and I’ve loved to see him both rollocking and encouraging his defenders.
Jordan Pickford has stepped up when it mattered.Peter Shilton
“He had that blip when he miskicked against Ukraine but the match was already won by then and he got away with it.
“But our defence was not breached yet again — and with Raheem Sterling and Kane now on fire up front we will take some beating.
“I’ve experienced the agony of penalties in an England semi-final when the Germans knocked us out of the World Cup in 1990 and wouldn’t wish that on anyone.

“But I’ve a feeling that won’t happen against the Danes — and if it does this team will be ready to win on penalties. Jordan has the great advantage of having saved the penalty that won us our last shoot-out against Colombia at the last World Cup.
“But he also has a great defence in front of him which works as a unit. We’ve waited so long for a trophy it’s hard to believe that the great Gordon Banks was in goal for us last time we did it.
“But now it’s the turn of Jordan and his teammates and they can do it.” Shilts also paid tribute to England boss Gareth Southgate and predicted a bright future for his squad.
The whole country is smiling again and looking forward to the game in front of a Wembley full of fans.Peter Shilton
He said: “I can’t praise Gareth highly enough for the way he’s kept faith with players through thick and thin. Players like Pickford, Kane and Sterling have had their critics but Gareth has stuck to his guns and trusted them and he’s been proved right.
“After all we’ve had to endure as a nation with Covid over the past 18 months, it’s fantastic that the team is coming good now to give us all a lift.
“The whole country is smiling again and looking forward to the game in front of a Wembley full of fans like the one I experienced so many times. And this England team won’t let them down.”

Meanwhile, Pickford’s wife Megan Davison will also put her faith in him keeping a clean sheet — with some help from a crystal healing bracelet.
Megan, 27, has worn the band — said to provide “emotional balance, stability and calm” — throughout the Euros.
A source said: “Megan’s been into crystal healing for the last year. She believes it brings harmony and wellbeing, not just for her but also for those around her.”

Euro 2020 star Harry Kane backed to lead England into first major final since 1966 — by a Great Dane

SKIPPER Harry Kane was tonight backed to lead England into their first major final since 1966 — by a Great Dane.Mighty Major, who stands nearly 7ft on his back legs, even showed off nifty footwork of his own ahead of the big game against Denmark.

He had a kickabout with a pal as the nation looked forward to the Euros semi-final showdown at Wembley tomorrow night.
The five-year-old champion, who weighs 12st, won his latest show two weeks ago and is now firmly behind Kane and Co to follow his lead.
He even wore an England shirt and stood proudly draped in the flag of St George to show his support for Gareth Southgate’s men.
Major’s owner, leading UK breeder and Crufts judge Laurence Morgan-Evans, of Wootton, Beds, said: “We’ve been glued to the telly watching the Euros. It’s so exciting. We hope England can get into the final and win it.”
Last night, goal ace Harry, 27, admitted that the nation was not alone in daring to dream.
He said: “I try not to let my mind get too far ahead. But I’d be lying if I said I hadn’t thought about winning the Euros. As a kid growing up you have a vision of what you want to do and what you dream about — and this is it.”
Three Lions teammate Harry Maguire, 28, took time out to play a game of darts but said they were ready to make history. He pledged to end England’s semi-final hoodoo after defeats at Italia 90, Euro 96 and Russia 2018 — and roared: “We’re better than ever.”
Maguire was in the side beaten 2-1 by Croatia in 2018. He said: “Losing the semi-final at the World Cup hurt a lot. So we need to make sure when it comes on Wednesday night we get a positive feeling.”
Last night, tens of thousands of fans scrambled for the few remaining tickets at Wembley. Seats were going for as much as £6,500 each online.

Up to 60,000 people will be allowed into the stadium — the biggest crowd since Covid began last March. England have an allocation of 8,500 tickets for the match but most of those have already been reserved.
The Football Association said it was working with Uefa to “finalise the total allocation and secure more tickets”.
It bagged an extra 1,700 after Denmark reduced its allocation to 5,000.
Tens of thousands of fans logged on for hours today in the hope of grabbing one at the last-minute but were left disappointed and then flooded social media in their search.
Adam French, consumer rights expert at Which?, warned: “Fans need to be aware there’s no guarantee they will get their tickets or entry to the match if they buy from an unofficial seller. They could be left seriously out of pocket.”
Pubs face running out of beer as fans throw it in the air celebrating goals — then buy more to toast the team. The Campaign for Real Ale said: “Publicans are worried they won’t get supplies.”

The British Institute of Innkeepers said: “Fans are flocking in — but pubs are running out of some lines of beer, with very limited deliveries from breweries due to supply chain problems.”
England football shirts are also in short supply amid a £12billion Euros economic boom.

All £70 shirts have sold out on the FA’s official website, with just a low number of £115 match shirts printed with a few players’ names left.
SportsDirect and JD Sports have sold out of all adult sizes, with just a few junior tops remaining. Flags, bunting and car flag sales have rocketed. Fan Salim Said tweeted: “England shirts are sold out at every store. People are starting to believe.”

    Brixton Brewery Cold Harbour Lager
Brixton Brewery Cold Harbour Lager is a beer for HeroesCredit: CORPORATE
4.4%, 330ml, £2.20, Ocado: This fresh, crisp and floral pilsner-style lager, which is unfiltered and unpasteurised, is good enough to beat the Germans at their own game. Born in buzzing Brixton, South London – just like David Bowie – it’s a beer for Heroes. Let’s hope so, at least.
    Duvel
Too many bottles of Duvel could, much like the Belgian midfield, be HazardousCredit: CORPORATE
8.5%, 330ml, £2, Tesco: It may be smoother than a Kevin De Bruyne through-ball but this awesome iconic Belgian ale also has the strength of Romelu Lukaku. Too many of these could, much like the Belgian midfield, be Hazardous. Widely thought of as the definitive Belgian strong ale.

7.5%, 4 x 33cl, £7.50, Sainsbury’s: Raise a glass to battling midfielder Christian Eriksen, the greatest Dane since Scooby-Doo, who is recovering after collapsing on the pitch from a cardiac arrest. This strong brew was originally created for Prime Minister Winston Churchill.
    Pilsner Urquell
With Pilsner Urquell, no wonder the Czechs drink more beer per person than any other nationCredit: CORPORATE
4.4%, 6 x 330ml, £6, Tesco: First brewed in 1842, in Pilsen, this is the first-ever pilsner beer and one of the best. No wonder the Czechs drink more beer per person than any other nation in the world. And their spirits were lifted by star striker Patrik Schick’s wonder-goal against Scotland.

    Corona
As Ukraine’s nickname is the ‘Blue and Yellow’ Corona is a suitably coloured beer label
4.5%, 12 x 330ml, £10, Sainsbury’s: We couldn’t find a beer from Ukraine, but as the team’s nickname is the “Blue and Yellow” we looked for a suitably coloured beer label: Corona. Come on, at least it’s topical. This sunshine lager gets its wheaty, golden colour from the barley, malt, corn, yeast and hops. It is lightly fruity, with a crisp, refreshing bitterness.

Rob Beckett relives 12-hr bender, cops and KFC after England v Germany game

NEVER before has an England football fan had such a rollercoaster 24 hours.Comedian Rob Beckett went viral this week by sharing on Instagram his running account of watching the Three Lions’ historic win over Germany at Wembley — and the drunken carnage that followed.
Comedian Rob Beckett has gone viral after sharing a rollercoaster 24 hours as he watched the Three Lions’ historic win over Germany at WembleyCredit: robbeckettcomic/instagram
It simply had everything: Triumph, tragedy, rejection, adulation — and even moments of emotional reflection, albeit while necking a KFC by some bins in a London back street.
Having finally sobered up, the 35-year-old funnyman — speaking exclusively to The Sun — told how it feels being known as the most hungover man in Britain.
Rob says: “It’s like I wasn’t famous until the night I put the videos up. I can’t remember most of what happened and everyone knows my evening better than I do.”
In the space of 24 hours, the South London comic got smashed at Wembley, gatecrashed a BBC1 TV show, and was nearly run over by a police van while eating his late-night takeaway.
He also filmed himself screaming: “It’s coming home” through a megaphone during an Uber ride and unsuccessfully attempted to seduce his wife by texting: “Fancy a bit when I get home?”.
And that was before the epic hangover kicked in the following morning, in which he hilariously documented taking his kids to a swimming lesson and attending a kitchen makeover meeting with his forgiving wife before ordering a pizza to stop himself from crying.
Rob, who ended up extremely drunk, sobered up and reveals how it feels being known as the most hungover man in Britain

Fifteen minutes later, at 15.30, Rob was seen after sinking a few beers

    ‘Proper mental’
So what sparked his huge Tuesday night blow-out? Rob says: “I was so happy. I haven’t had a rush of adrenaline like that for ages because I’ve not gone to anything for 18 months.
“But the atmosphere in the stadium was the best I’ve ever been near. It was unbelievable. My hangover was fuelled by happiness rather than lager.”
The 24 hours of madness started around 1.30pm on Tuesday when Rob filmed himself leaving his house dressed head to toe in England clobber and an Adidas bucket hat, which he admitted: “I’m not ped enough to wear yet”.
But two hours later, having arrived at Wembley with pal and fellow comic Lloyd Griffith, the headwear was firmly on following the consumption of “three cans of Heineken and a can of M&S Mojito.” The pair made their way into the stadium where more mayhem took place in the venue bars.
Describing his mood in a quick Instagram story, Rob says: “I’m drunk, it’s quarter past four, I’m going to watch England and drink some more.” At 4.45pm they made their way to their seats for kick-off, filming a boisterous Wembley in all its glory.
The pair were picked out by TV crews during the game and beamed on to the big screen, looking slightly dishevelled compared to other famous faces in the crowd including dapper David Beckham and Prince William in the posh seats. In a video posted a 5.15pm, Rob yells: “If you saw us on the telly, we’re fed.”

At 22:00, Rob turning up to Peter Crouch’s Year-Late Euros Live
Explaining why he prefers being with real football fans, Rob says: “That’s how I go to the football. I dress up and have fun with my mates. But that bucket hat and beard does make me look proper mental.”
After he celebrated England beating Germany and having consumed “ten pints”, Rob’s night descended into further chaos. He turned up at Crouchy’s Year-Late Euros Live filmed nearby “to avoid the crowds”.
Producers, initially glad to see an unplanned surprise guest, quickly changed tack. Rob explains: “We were too drunk to go on the telly. They asked me to leave before it started, which I thought was a good decision. I later texted Peter Crouch to say sorry.”
He jumped on the Tube, documenting his journey on video at 10pm saying: “I’m fed out of my head but it’s the greatest night of my life”. We next see Rob at 11pm sitting in a dark alley eating his takeaway KFC. In a poignant moment, he slurringly told his followers: “No matter how good you think you’ve done, you will always eat KFC next to a f***ing bin as the police reverse into you.”
Reflecting on his emotional monologue, Rob says: “I was just sitting there thinking, ‘This is one of the greatest nights of my life, that game was outrageous, and I’m sitting on the floor eating chicken’.”
His evening got even more outrageous when his Uber driver Imran gave him a megaphone, which Rob used to ask startled bystanders if “it’s coming home?”.

    ‘I needed a blow-out’
The Sky One star, whose hit series with Romesh Ranganathan — Rob Versus Romesh — returns next Thursday with Team GB and Wimbledon themes, says: “I completely forgot I had a megaphone until about 3pm yesterday.”
It was during his journey home that he attempted his optimistic booty call, to which his wife, Louise, responded: “I admire the optimism, but absolutely not. You need some water, some dry bread and some pre-emptive paracetamol.”
Asked how Louise felt about his big night out, Rob says: “She’s not that bothered — she knew I needed a blow-out.”
Rob, whose Wallop! tour starts next month and is releasing his first book in October, reveals he has tickets for the semi-final and final.
At 23.50, the comedian has some mega-fun during an Uber ride and asks startled bystanders if ‘it’s coming home?’

At 7.45, the hangover kicks in

So if England beat Ukraine in Rome tonight, does he intend to repeat his heroics at Wembley next week?
He says: “If we get through to the semi, it’s like a superstition, I’m going to have to do things exactly the same again. We’ll go for it.
“This Saturday I’ll be rebuilding, staying at home, watching it indoors and recharging the batteries, and we go again on Wednesday.”
