Roy Keane blasts West Ham defenders for acting ‘like they’re in Starbucks’ for Man Utd goal

ROY KEANE blasted the West Ham defenders for acting “like they’re in Starbucks” for Manchester United’s equalising goal. The Hammers took a second-half lead at Old Trafford in the FA Cup fifth round as the London club looked set to end United’s quadruple dream.

But three goals after the 77th minute saw the Red Devils rescue the game and get through to the quarter-finals where they will play Fulham.
Man United legend Keane was not happy with his former club at half-time but turned his fire onto West Ham after the game ended.
The ex-midfielder, 51, was shocked with the London club’s slack defending before Nayef Aguerd headed the ball into his own net.
He said on ITV: “[The West Ham defenders] are having a little discussion … like they’re in Starbucks.

“Come and take people out! Come with violence, that’s your job.”
He was asked by presenter Mark Pougatch if United had “got away with one”.
Keane said: “Yeah they have. But they’ve earned the right. The manager’s made a huge gamble with all the changes, it looked like it was going to backfire.
“But they sorted themselves out, made one or two changes, started doing what they’re good at.”

Keane was also not impressed with West Ham’s spurned chances at both 0-0 and 1-0 – and even compared them to Tottenham.
He added: “They come, they get a bit giddy, they have opportunities. It’s loads of teams – not just West Ham but the Spurs’ of this world.
“They come to Old Trafford, they have a little bit of possession, one or two chances, get all excited and end up getting beaten.”
West Ham were the better team in the first half with Antonio spurning a huge chance at 0-0.
But Said Benrahma scored a beauty after 54 minutes to leave United on the rocks.
Casemiro and others were impressive when they came off the bench but it was one of the starters, Alejandro Garnacho, who stole the game.
The 18-year-old cut inside and scored a beauty to give United the lead before Fred scored another deep into stoppage side. More

Iliman Ndiaye mustered the game’s only goal, weaving through feeble challenges before slotting past Fraser Forster on 79 minutes.
Spurs opted to rest Harry Kane from the start, instead starting Richarlison up-front with Son Heung-min and Lucas Moura on the flanks.

Sheff Utd 1 Tottenham 0: Spurs knocked OUT of the FA Cup as Ndiaye sends Championship high-flyers into quarters

TRUST Tottenham to serve up a car crash of a performance in this week of all weeks.Spurs announced on Tuesday a 15-year “strategic partnership” with Formula One, a tie-up which would see them build London’s longest indoor electric go-kart track beneath the South Stand.

It raised a few eyebrows among fans, who will likely be appeased if it end up helping their team’s drive for success on the pitch.
Yet now, thanks to sub Iliman Ndiaye’s fine, late solo goal, their side are out of the race for their most likely route to silverware for another season.
It was no more than Spurs deserved, who were poor throughout against what was effectively Sheffield United’s reserve side.
They rarely threatened, even when Harry Kane came on midway through the second half – though the England skipper did fluff his line with an injury-time header.

Both these sides were missing their managers from the dugout.
Antonio Conte was still back in Turin recovering from gallbladder surgery, with his assistant Cristian Stellini once again deputising.
The Tottenham chief is expected to return this week, though possibly not until Sunday, the day after his side’s trip to Wolves.
While Blades chief Paul Heckingbottom was serving the first of a three-match ban given for volleying the fourth official’s board out of his hands in fury during last month’s home defeat to Middlesbrough.

Spurs sprang a few surprises with their team selection.
Richarlison started through the middle, despite Stellini hinting in the pre-match press conference that he would not, while Kane did not start at all, despite Stellini hinting he would.
In-form Emerson Royal was also ruled out with a minor knee injury – though he should be fine for Wolves on Saturday – meaning deadline-day signing Pedro Porro came in.
Sheffield United’s focus was clearly more on promotion to the Premier League, which was understandable given their seven-point cushion to third spot in the Championship.
With a trip to rivals Blackburn to come on Saturday lunchtime, Paul Heckingbottom opted to leave big-hitters including Sander Berge, Iliman Ndiaye and Oli McBurnie on the bench.
Instead, academy lad Andre Brooks was handed his first start.
But it was the 19-year-old’s loose pass which handed Spurs their first chance of the game.
It went  straight to the lesser-spotted Lucas Moura, who dribbled into the box and cut it back for Richarlison, but the ex-Everton man’s effort was blocked by Jack Robinson.
Porro suffered a Spurs debut to forget in the 4-1 lashing at Leicester last month, having signed on loan from Sporting Lisbon with an obligation to buy for £45million.
You feared how the Spaniard might cope in the wind and driving rain against a canny, Championship side like United.
But he showed some neat touches, an intent to get forward and when he was cleaned out by Robinson’s firm-but-fair challenge, encouragingly, he just got up and got on with it.
Davinson Sanchez was playing behind him and it was the Colombian who teed up Richarlison for Spurs’ best chance of the half.
Brazil’s No9 beat the offside trap to race in down the right-hand side of the box, but smashed his shot from an acute angle over the bar.
Moura then clipped the top of the crossbar when standing the ball up to the back post, looking for his compatriot Richarlison, causing the home fans to breathe a sigh of relief.
That was then exactly what Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg was doing when his weak header let in Ismaila Coulibaly.
Fortunately for Spurs, the Malian shanked his shot into the side netting, blowing the best chance of the half.
But after a run of games WITHOUT individual errors cropping up, Conte will have been worried to see bad, old habits creeping back in as he watched on from his sofa.
There was no VAR at this game and lucky for George Baldock, as the Blades right-back caught Ivan Perisic on the shin with a nasty tackle but got away with it.
He was not so fortunate soon after the break when hacking down Son Heung-min and was booked, and the same fate awaited Pape Matar Sarr for a late challenge on Tommy Doyle.
Things were not going well for Richarlison, who fired a shot so far wide it got the ‘What the bleeping hell was that’ treatment, before his attempted cross deflected back off him for a goal-kick.
His frustrating night was brought to an end seconds later as Kane entered the fray.
But the England captain’s introduction made little difference to Tottenham’s toothless attack and the home side grew in belief.
They brought on their own star striker in Ndiaye and with ten minutes to go, he made the difference.
In a match that was the football equivalent of go-karting, he provided the one moment of Formula One-esque quality, weaving through a crowd of Spurs defenders in the opposition penalty box before burying it in at Fraser Forster’s near post.
Heckingbottom, wearing his ear buds, applauded from up in the stands.

Conte no doubt will have been screaming at the TV back home, frustrated that his side were not at the races once again in what has been an infuriatingly inconsistent season.
The Blades shocked Spurs with a 1-0 victory at Bramall Lane that led them to the competition’s quarter-finals thanks to Iliman Ndiaye’s winner on 79 minutes. More

Man Utd 3 West Ham 1: Quadruple hopes still alive as late Garnacho stunner sees Man Utd come from behind to top Hammers

DAVID MOYES CAN put those dancing shoes away, it is Erik ten Hag on course to do another Wembley jig of joy.The West Ham boss joked before the game that he would emulate his opposite number by dancing on the pitch in delight, as Ten Hag did on Sunday, if he were to win the FA Cup.

That won’t be happening after a dramatic comeback by Manchester United took them into the quarter-finals and keeps their quadruple dream alive.
Behind to Said Benrahma’s 54th minute opener they were level through a Nayed Aguerd own goal on 77.
The game looked to be heading into extra time but in the 90th minute Alejandro Garnacho fired home a curling low shot and Fred made it certain deep into injury time.
The home fans may have feared they had been tempting fate when the silverware was shown off before the game.

Well there is still work to do but the momentum behind this club is mighty.
Ten Hag emphasised in his programme notes how determined the team now were to add to their Carabao Cup success, writing: “They are not happy to ease up now that they have won a trophy and they are more determined than ever to keep winning more and more.”
The United boss also said ahead of the game how much faith he had in his whole squad enabling him to make changes without the performance level dropping.
With eight games in 26 days last month and now six inside three weeks in March, he will certainly need them.
He made six changes from the side that started the Carabao Cup Final on Sunday including three of the back four.
West Ham boss David Moyes had been dealt a huge blow ahead of the game with the news that number one goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski has a broken cheekbone and eye-socket.
He suffered the horror facial injury after colliding with Nottingham Forest centre-back Felipe during their 4-0 home win on Saturday.
Alphonse Areola who replaced him in the 69th minute of that game was one of four changes for the Hammers.

Danny Ings was one of those left out due to him being cup tied and it was his replacement Michail Antonio who would have the chance of the first half.
Put through by Said Benrahma in the 23rd minute he was left one-on-one on a slight angle.
David De Gea came out to narrow the angles, stretched his arms out to make himself big and blocked the shot.
That silver glove has clearly given him the taste for more clean sheets.
Former Old Trafford boss Moyes will have been satisfied with his sides work at the break.
They were hounding the home players down every time they got the ball and making it awkward for them to play it out from the back.
Ten Hag brought Casemiro into the action for Scott McTominay to change things and get more of a foothold in the game but it was West Ham who took the lead.
Those in red stopped when they thought the ball had gone out of play when Thomas Soucek tried to control it on the sideline.
It hadn’t, he released Emerson who found Benrahma and his blistering shot into the far top corner gave De Gea no chance.
The VAR checked to see if the ball had indeed stayed in play in the build up and it had.
While Ten Hag may have talked up his squad he realised he needed his first choice players now to rescue this as Lisandro Martinez and top scorer Marcus Rashford were brought into the fray.
But it was the Hammers who should have extended the lead when Antonio got through once more but De Gea came off best again.
The home side thought they had the equaliser on 72 minutes when Casemiro nodded in Bruno Fernandes free kick but the VAR ruled the Brazilian’s outstretched arm had put him offside.
They would only have to wait five minutes more as Fernandes corner into a packed six yard box was headed past his own goalkeeper by Nayef Aguerd.
Old Trafford was lifted and as the clock ticked to the 90th minute a Wout Weghorst shot rebounded to Garnacho who curled a low shot into the far bottom corner.

Then in the last seconds Aguerd dithered on the ball, Weghorst won it and laid it back for Fred to finish.

Southampton woes get even worse as they’re knocked out of FA Cup at home to LEAGUE TWO Grimsby

GRIMSBY TOWN delivered the Cup upset of the season as the League Two side dumped out Premier League Southampton. Two Gavan Holohan penalties gave Paul Hurst and his boys in blue a night they will never forget, as the Mariners reached the last quarter-finals for the first time since 1939.

More than 4000 superb Grimsby fans had made the 480-mile round trip to St. Mary’s, having bought a remarkable 1200 Harry the Haddock inflatables from the club shop.
The blow-up fish have become a hallmark of the club’s big games, with Saints having initially banned them before backing down.
Bosses at the club may have wished they’d stuck to their guns.
The travelling supporters gave terrific backing to their side and made St. Mary’s their own, as the increasingly quiet home support looked on in disgust – their desperate season reaching a new, unimaginable low before their eyes.

Ruben Selles’ side tried to fight back after Duje Caleta-Car got a goal back, but they didn’t deserve anything more.
Grimsby may be sitting 16th in League Two, 64 places below their hosts, but the Mariners had got the better of teams from higher divisions in each round of the Cup this season, including Championship Luton Town.
With Southampton having made nine changes, starting a front four with a combined four goals all season, Grimsby arrived on the south coast smelling blood.
A shoddy start from the Saints, wasting good openings, only lifted the spirits of those in black and white packing out the Northam Stand.

Grimsby had just 25% possession, and zero corners
Things were going their way, and they knew it.
The Saints thought they had a breakthrough when Sekou Mara fired a low shot home from Moussa Djenepo’s cut-back, but the linesman’s flag quickly ruled that the Mali winger was offside before playing the cross.
Southampton were in control but, even against lower league defenders, were showing the same lack of cutting edge they’ve had in the final third all season.
That sloppy side extended to the back line late in the first half.
The hosts let Mariners winger Josh Emmanuel slip through the net down the right wing, with the No7 looking to pick out Harry Clifton.
Brazilian livewire Lyanco ducked to head the ball clear but instead made contact with his right arm and, after an inexplicably long VAR check, Holohan was allowed to step up and write himself into Grimsby Town history.
The away end was a sea of bouncing Haddocks, buoyed further when, in the final minute of added time at the end of the first half, Mara blazed a simple effort over the bar from an Orsic corner.
Five minutes into the second half, Southampton’s torrid evening spiralled even further out of control.
After a long ball forward, Danilo Orsi crumbled in the Southampton box. The back line laughed away his efforts to win a penalty, but ref Thomas Bramall bought them and pointed to the spot for a second time.
Replays showed that Saints defender Caleta-Car, making his first appearance since being sent off against Newcastle in the Carabao Cup semi-final, had given Orsi a slap on the back, with the Grimsby man hitting the deck.
Holohan powered home his second of the night and this time got to celebrate on his knees in front of the delirious away end.
While the visitors celebrated, the staggered Southampton stared at Bramall in disbelief, though Caleta-Car had to shoulder the blame for giving him a decision to make, no matter how contentious.
Ruben Selles responded by calling for captain James Ward-Prowse, who began his rescue job minutes later.
The England midfielder bent a looping corner to the far post where, waiting for redemption, Caleta-Car volleyed home from close range to halve the deficit.
But the Mariners continued to believe, and a second disallowed goal for Southampton, this time Walcott, only increased the volume.
