Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho confirms Dele Alli is back in his plans after midfielder stars in Marine FA Cup thrashing

DELE ALLI looks to have played his way back into Jose Mourinho’s plans after a majestic display in the 5-0 FA Cup thrashing of Marine.
One comedy tumble aside, the 24-year-old midfielder was on fire in the first half as Spurs went in at the break 4-0 up.

Carlos Vinicius scored a hat-trick, with Lucas Moura adding the other with a sublime free-kick.
Alli, who has failed to even make the bench in a number of games this season, had the luxury of being rested when replaced by Gareth Bale on 65 minutes.
That was five minutes after 16-year-old Alfie Devine had put the Londoners 5-0 up.
Alli has been linked with a January transfer and a potential reunion with Mauricio Pochettino at Paris Saint-Germain.

But Mourinho doesn’t appear ready to ship out the 37-cap England international just yet.
When asked if Alli is in centention for a Premier League starting spot, the Special One replied: “He was here today and of course it was not the match to measure the quality.
“But the professionalism and attitude and I am very happy with it.
“I will not be surprised if next Wednesday Dele is playing with us.

“I am really happy with his attitude in the game. Of course we didn’t want to risk much, the pitch is a bit dangerous and their enthusiasm can put the creative ones in some risk.
“But I am happy – good professionalism, good dynamic from him and Gedson [Fernandes] to start trying to create, so really pleased for the performance.”
Spurs travel to take on Aston Villa on Wednesday.

And exclusively speaking to SunSport last month, White Hart lane legend Glenn Hoddle admitted the former MK Dons man might need to move on.
The Amazon Prime Video pundit said: “I could see Dele going to another club and doing really well in the right system. I don’t think he suits this system that Jose’s looking for.
“I think at some stage he will move on, when that will be I’m not sure”

Tottenham give fresh shirts to Marine’s part-timers in classy gesture as coronavirus sees swaps banned after FA Cup ties

TOTTENHAM were hailed for their classy gesture to Marine following their FA Cup win over the non-League outfit.
Jose Mourinho’s side put in a professional performance to ease into the fourth round with a 5-0 win over the Merseysiders.

Marine, who feature in the eighth tier of English football, are 161-places below Spurs – the largest gap between two sides in the competition’s history.
Unfortunately, the coronavirus pandemic meant fans were robbed of the chance to see their side’s biggest ever game against Tottenham.
The north Londoners had already done their part in helping Marine sell over 21,000 virtual tickets to help the club’s finances.
But Spurs also had a classy gesture saved for the part-timers who were also barred from swapping shirts with the Prem superstars.

Coronavirus regulations in the FA Cup had prohibited the once-customary post-match gesture but, thankfully for Marine, Tottenham came prepared.
The Carabao Cup finalists revealed they travelled with brand new shirts to give to the non-League oufit to commemorate the occasion.
The club confirmed on Twitter: “The players are unable to swap shirts after the game due to COVID protocols, so we’ve provided @MarineAFC with a whole set of fresh match shirts as a souvenir of today’s historic match.”
Fans loved Tottenham’s classy gesture, with one replying: “Always great to see a mark of respect and true sportsmanship.”

Another said: “Lovely gesture”, while a third simply added: “Legends.”
Carlos Vinicius scored a hat-trick on route to Tottenham’s comfortable 5-0 win over Marine.
Lucas Moura also scored and substitute Alfie Devine then made history after becoming both the club’s youngest ever player and scorer.

Cheeky Marine fan asks for Jurgen Klopp’s number on live TV as Liverpool boss ‘watches’ Spurs win from garden

A CHEEKY Marine fan asked for Jurgen Klopp’s phone number live on TV during Sunday night’s FA Cup clash with Tottenham.
The coronavirus pandemic meant fans on Merseyside were robbed of the chance to see their side’s biggest ever game against the Premier League challengers.

One fan made a plea to ‘mingle’ with Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp

But, with Rossett Park Stadium being overlooked by a host of conveniently-placed back gardens, plenty of fans made sure to get a good vantage point of the action as Spurs won 5-0.
And the primetime TV audience meant a number were inspired to make their mark on a memorable cup meeting.
One supporter even showcased their romantic availability for the BBC cameras – with a placard asking for Klopp’s number.
The hilarious sign read: “Well hello. Due to unforeseen circumstances… I’m single and ready to mingle.

    “Have you got Jurgen’s number?”
Luckily for the eager fan, Liverpool boss Klopp was just yards away in another garden.
TV cameras picked up the German peering out over the pitch – albeit in cardboard cutout form.
One fan carried the static Klopp around with him as Merseyside club Marine did battle with Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham.

The eighth-tier minnows had received a helping hand from their neighbours ahead of the clash, with Reds hero Jamie Carragher sponsoring the team.
Everton also leant Marine their training facilities while Liverpool sent over advanced scouting data ahead of the tie.
Alas, Spurs came away with a healthy win thanks to Carlos Vinicius’ first-half hat-trick.
Lucas Moura and teenager Alfie Devine also got on the scoresheet, but not until Neil Kengni had fired off a delightful volley that rattled Joe Hart’s crossbar with the scores level.

    Goodnight!

    VINI VIDI VICI
Plenty of us have imagined that if a Jose Mourinho team was playing in our back garden, we would draw the curtains.
Not so the back-garden army who watched from treetops, ladders, shed roofs and verandas as Tottenham ran riot at Marine’s Rossett Park.
There was even a cardboard cut-out of Jurgen Klopp peering over the fence of one of the houses which back on to the Merseyside home of the Northern Premier League Division One North West club.
But if the setting had been perfect for the quintessential FA Cup upset, then Mourinho’s men were in no mood to be the bumbling anti-heroes of some romantic comedy.

    MOURINHO SPEAKS
Speaking after his team brushed aside non-league side Marine in the FA Cup, Mourinho praised 16-year-old Alfie Devine after the youngster scored on his debut.
Mourinho said: “Alfie is a good young player with good potential that came to the club only this summer.
“He was lucky enough to have pre-season with us which gave him a close contact with the first team. He’s not a stranger to us.
“Plays for various youth teams and sometimes comes to us to train. International youth players as well.
“So good progress. A player with instinctive runs into the finishing areas. We like him”
And on the topic of Dele Alli, he said: “I liked [Dele] very much. He and Gedson were responsible for our dynamic from the first minutes.
“Creating for us and causing problems for them and goals for us. Of course our creative players were a bit worried about the pitch.”

“At the end we were laughing about [which superstar] would be coming off the bench next.
“It would have been nice to get a goal. Neil hit the bar and James Joyce had a shot blocked, but once they went ahead they showed their class.
“I’m very proud of the cup run. We’ve had an eventful week, with lot of press and attention.
“The football community, and in particular the Tottenham Hotspur supporters, have been incredible.

Watch Son laugh and Bale call for yellow card as Dele Alli takes comical tumble in Spurs’ win over Marine

DELE ALLI had the Tottenham bench in stitches with a comical tumble in the FA Cup win over non-League opponents Marine.
The Spurs star, 24, ran the show in the first half for Jose Mourinho’s side as they avoided one of the biggest cup upsets of all time with a dominant display at the Rossett Park Stadium.

Alli picked out Carlos Vinicius to break the deadlock in the 24th minute before playing a key role in the striker’s second of the afternoon.
Tottenham were eager to avoid a humiliating defeat to their eighth-tier opponents and put on a professional display to lead by four goals at the break.
But Alli provided some light relief for his team-mates shivering on the bench as he lost his footing in hilarious style.
A clip shared by Match of the Day shows the 24-year-old moving into space to pick up a pass from Ben Davies but just as the ball comes towards, totally unmarked, him he topples over backwards, almost in slow-motion.

He laughed off the amusing incident by checking his studs.
But there was no chance Son Heung-min and Sergio Reguilon would let him forget it as they chucked away on the bench, while Gareth Bale waved an imaginary yellow card.
Tottenham booked their place in the fourth round with a 5-0 win.
Alli was replaced by Bale midway through the second half after 16-year-old Alfie Devine netted his first goal for the club, and Spurs’ fifth.

The England international has endured a difficult campaign after falling out of favour under Mourinho.
The Marine tie was only his 12th appearance of the season, while he has not started a Premier League game since the opener against Everton.
But his impressive performance in the cup clash will have done his confidence the world of good.

Alli has been linked with a move away from Tottenham in this transfer window.
A reunion with Mauricio Pochettino at Paris Saint-Germain is on the cards.
SunSport reported on Christmas Day that one of Pochettino’s top January targets is Alli, who was a regular for Spurs under the Argentine.

BBC viewers in hysterics as Dion Dublin uses ‘stairs leading up to the bedroom’ catchphrase in Marine vs Spurs clash

DION DUBLIN left BBC viewers in stitches after using his famous catchphrase within 40 seconds of Marine and Tottenham’s FA Cup clash.
The Homes Under the Hammer presenter was co-commentating alongside Guy Mowbray for the third-round tie between eighth-tier Marine and Premier League contenders Spurs.

Former Coventry and Aston Villa striker Dublin sent social media wild with his signature mention of ‘stairs leading up to bedrooms’ after Mowbray referenced the neighbourhood backdrop of Marine’s Rosset Park.
Mowbray said: “The man alongside me couldn’t be enjoying himself more this afternoon – Dion Dublin is watching football surrounded by homes.”
Referring to the pair’s position in the commentary box, Dublin replied: “At least their stairs will be leading to bedrooms, we had to come up a ladder tonight.”
Several fans were anticipating a line from Dublin regarding the game’s unusual setting, with one tweeting: “If Dion Dublin doesn’t mention the houses on the other side of the pitch and get the phrase ‘stairs going up to the bedroom’ into his co-commentary honestly what is the point?”

After the remark from Dublin, one viewer tweeted: “Big fan of Dion Dublin referencing Stairs leading up to the Bedroom within the first minute tonight.
“Just loves it. What a guy.”
Another commented: “Dion Dublin referencing ‘stairs going up to the bedroom’ while commentating might just be the greatest moment of my life.

Marine 0 Tottenham 5: Carlos Vinicius nets hat-trick as Mourinho’s men dodge eighth-tier banana skin

Spurs made the largest gulf in league positions in the 150-year history of this competition look exactly that with four goals in 13 first-half minutes.
Before the rout began, though, there was one moment to leave the curtain-twitching nosey neighbours agog.

After keeping a strong Spurs side at arm’s length for the opening 19 minutes, Marine’s trainee plumber Neil Kengni sprinted clear from the halfway line and produced a powerful 30-yard shot.
Joe Hart – 75 England caps, an FA Cup and Premier League title-winner – seemingly imagined the effort was heading over – yet Kengni’s effort dipped and crashed off his crossbar.
This stunning moment jolted Spurs into life and they were four-up by half-time – Dele Alli the architect, Carlos Vinicius the scorer of a quick-fire hat-trick, his fellow Brazilian Lucas Moura thumping home a free-kick.
The boys from the homeland of the beautiful game would have known little like this – but there was a curious kind allure about this ultimate third-round fixture.

Marine’s collection of binmen, teachers and NHS workers, managed by railwayman Neil Young, had been gifted Everton’s training facilities and Liverpool’s scouting insights on Mourinho’s men.
Yet that was never going to be nearly enough, if Spurs arrived here with their heads screwed on – and despite that slow start, the game faces of the Premier League side were soon apparent.
Mourinho made nine changes from the side which booked a Wembley date in the Carabao Cup Final by beating Brentford on Tuesday – but those coming in included Alli, Hart and Toby Alderweireld, as well as teenage midfielder Harvey White, who was handed a first senior start.
With a gulf of 161 league positions between the two clubs, surely an upset was impossible?
Yet in the first round, Marine had knocked out Colchester United, who had defeated Spurs in last season’s League Cup.
And Mourinho had suffered one major FA Cup shock – when his Chelsea side blew a two-goal lead and were beaten 4-2 at home by Bradford City in 2015.
So nothing is entirely beyond possibility’s realms – especially with a dodgy playing surface and a stubborn, packed defence.
For 23 minutes, these sort of hopes would have been shared by those braving the cold to drink champagne in their backyards.

Yet after Kengni’s nearly moment, unlikely dreams soon turned to dust.
Within four minutes of that, Marine’s resistance ended when Alli played a one-two with Gedson Fernandes and centred low for Vinicius to miscontrol, but then gather himself to round keeper Bayleigh Passant and thump into an empty net with a certain level of relief.
Alli, who was certainly up to the latest personality test handed to him by the sceptical Mourinho, was at it again on the half hour.
This time a gorgeous lofted pass was met with Matt Doherty’s cushioned volley, which was saved by Passant but poked in by Vinicius on the rebound.
Moura hammered home a curling free-kick, then Vinicious completed his treble with a cute, lofted side-footed finish.
At half-time, Mourinho sent on Alfie Devine for his first-team debut and the 16-year-old soon became Tottenham’s youngest-ever FA Cup scorer when he cut in from the left and drilled in a shot which beat Passant at his near post.

If there was any relief among Marine’s players when Alli was withdrawn, there would have been wry smiles at the identity of his replacement – the four-time Champions League winner Gareth Bale.
Spurs had shown Marine respect with their cast-list and with their performance too.
They could not turn this into a complete annihilation job – or perhaps they didn’t truly wish to.
It was a happy occasion for miserable times. Neighbourhood watch had never been so much fun.
