FA YOUTH CUP LIVE RESULT: Man Utd progress past 10-man Arsenal to book semi-final spot after extra-time win in thriller

Manchester United edged past their illustrious counterparts, Arsenal, to book their place in the FA Youth Cup final four. United would grab the lead through Darren Fletcher’s son, Jack, who rocketed a curling strike past the goalkeeper on his weaker side from the corner of the box on the 36th minute. Just before the interval, Arsenal defender Will Sweet sent a long pass over United’s back-line to put Louis Copley clear 1-on-1 and dink past an onrushing goalkeeper. Teenage sensation Max Dowman was the standout player, and would make his impact more substantial when he glided past Reece Munro in the box, received contact enough to earn a penalty, and converted the resulting spot kick with the utmost composure. United’s Jaydan Kamason would fire back with an equaliser of his own as he collected the ball just outside the box before arrowing an effort across goal from the right wing in added time. On the 8th minute of the first half of extra time, Bendito Mantato would slam in Samuel Lusale’s cut-back from close range to hand the visitors the lead again. Gunner’s skipper Street was shown his marching orders for a cynical sliding red card offence on Kamason in the closing exchanges. Full-time result: Arsenal 2-3 Manchester United (after ET).Follow our live blog below…That’s all from us at SunSportRecord-winners Manchester United further prove their tag in a display that showed why they are considered this year’s favourite to win the Cup. Going into the night, Max Dowman was the name on everyone’s lips. and its safe to say the 15-year-old delivered. For much of the match, he seemed to be the matchwinner as he sparkled throughout areas of the midfield, and though on the losing side tonight, he will certainly be the biggest winner going forward in the eyes of many, including Mikel Arteta. Major upgrade to VAR coming TONIGHT with Semi-Automated Offside Technology installed at Premier League clubs

VILLA PARK will tonight see the launch of English football’s VAR upgrade.Premier League chiefs plan to roll out the use of Semi-Automated Offside Technology across the remainder of the season.Villa Park will see the launch of English football’s VAR upgradeCredit: The FAThe new VAR system uses up to 30 specialist high-speed cameras to track 10,000 data points on every playerCredit: The FABut the new system, which uses up to 30 specialist high-speed cameras to track 10,000 data points on every player, will be debuted across all but one of this weekend’s eight FA Cup fifth-round ties. And it starts with Aston Villa’s clash with Cardiff.Unlike the top-flight’s current VAR system, where operators manually determine the ‘kick point’ for offside calls and then draw lines, SAOT will do both automatically. It is expected the system, devised by the Prem’s new tech partner, US-based Genesis Sport, will reduce even tight decision times to an average of 30 seconds.Read More on FootballThe Genesis system will then send a 3D visual replay to broadcasters and the giant screens in stadiums, to ensure fans know why the call was made.A white vertical wall will represent the offside line, with a blue ‘pulse’ on the defender’s relevant body part. And when an attacker is offside, the offending part of their body will appear through the white wall and be outlined in red.The final image in the virtual replay will be on an angle, off-centre.Most read in FootballCASINO SPECIAL – BEST CASINO BONUSES FROM £10 DEPOSITSThat is to provide a clear view of the attacker and defender involved in the offside review.SAOT will only be installed at Prem grounds.Everton boss David Moyes gives his reaction to disallowed penalty against Man Utd That means the tie between Preston and Burnley will only use the current VAR systemVilla and Cardiff’s FA Cup clash kicks off at 8pm. Transfer recommendations ahead of Gameweek 26: European specialists and FA Cup wildcards

DREAM TEAM managers have until 6:30pm on Friday to confirm their transfers for Gameweek 26.As usual, we’ve trawled the Stats Centre and analysed the schedule to come up with some informed recommendations.Forget Man United’s performances and focus on their skipper’s individual outputCredit: Dream TeamBruno Fernandes (£6.2m)Manchester United’s captain is an excellent option for a number of reasons.Firstly, his rescue jobs against Everton and Ipswich produced more points (27) than any other player managed in Gameweek 25.Secondly, the Red Devils are one of just two teams set to play two fixtures this coming Gameweek: Fulham (h) and Real Sociedad (a).More broadly, Man United will play FIVE times before the March international break – some teams will be in action just twice in the same time frame. And thirdly, Fernandes has risen to third in the overall rankings and first among midfielders!Ollie Watkins (£5.2m)A popular recruit this weekCredit: PAAston Villa are the other club set to pull double duty this coming Gameweek. The Villains will host Cardiff on Friday night before flying to Belgium to take on Club Brugge in the Champions League round of 16.There’s no guarantee Watkins will be unleashed upon Championship opposition as Unai Emery may opt to rotate his squad but the England striker will almost certainly start in Bruges and is therefore a good selection either way. Most read in FootballAlternatively, you might want to target Villa’s FA Cup game and view the European away day as a bonus.Might Marcus Rashford (£3.4m) start against Cardiff and then come off the bench in midweek?Marco Asensio (£3.2m) bagged 17 points in Gameweek 25 and should get his fair share of minutes across the two games. And of course, Morgan Rogers (£3.8m) remains a strong option having recovered from a minor injury and scored against Crystal Palace.Dominik Szoboszlai (£4.3m)Hungary for moreCredit: RexLiverpool have just one fixture in Gameweek 26 and a tricky one at that; PSG in the French capital on Wednesday night.Gone are the days of Lionel Messi, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe but Luis Enrique’s side are a dangerous prospect at present having won 14 of their last 15 games in all competitions.Ousmane Dembele and company racked up an aggregate score of 10-0 over Brest in the play-offs to reach the Champions League last 16.All that being said, Arne Slot’s side finished top of the league phase in Europe’s premier competition and are cruising towards Premier League glory.Mohamed Salah (£8.3m), Trent Alexander-Arnold (£5.7m) and Virgil van Dijk (£4.6m) are the bankers but Dream Team bosses searching for a potential difference-maker among Liverpool’s squad should consider Szoboszlai. The Hungarian No8 has amassed 52 points in his last six games and currently features in just 6.8% of teams.Daniel Munoz (£5.1m) and/or Jean-Philippe Mateta (£4.7m)Firmly back among the goalsCredit: ReutersGaffers hoping to target an FA Cup mismatch should look to Selhurst Park.Oliver Glasner tends to name strong sides in the domestic cups and so it would be no surprise if Munoz and Mateta, two of the game’s most in-form players right now, started at home to Millwall on Saturday. The Lions are currently 12th in the Championship and should be no match for a Palace outfit that have improved immeasurably since the first quarter of the campaign.READ MORE SUN STORIESMunoz ranks joint-third among Dream Team defenders – he took 15 points off Doncaster in the FA Cup fourth round – while only Salah has earned more points than Mateta from his last three outings among forwards. These don’t need to be one-week punts either as the Eagles are due to face relegation-threatened Ipswich in Gameweek 27. Erik ten Hag gives major update on future and reveals he ‘misses Old Trafford’ after Man Utd sacking

ERIK TEN HAG has given a major career update after being sacked by Manchester United. The Dutchman was relieved of his duties at Old Trafford at the end of October after winning just three out of nine Premier League games and sitting 14th in the table.Erik ten Hag has revealed when he plans to get back into managementCredit: TikTok / SEGStoriesSpeaking on SEG Stories he spoke about what he ‘misses’ about Man UtdCredit: TikTok / SEGStoriesTen Hag was seen reading The Sun during the reflective interviewCredit: TikTok / SEGStoriesThings have not improved at his old club under successor Ruben Amorim with the club now in 15th and having lost 12 from 26 games in the league – a run not seen since the club was last relegated.Quarterly accounts revealed it cost skint Man Utd £14.5million to sack Ten Hag, his staff and former sporting director Dan Ashworth. However, the 55-year-old has now reflected on his time at the helm of the Red Devils, admitting there is one thing he misses more than any other.Speaking to SEG Stories with the full interview set to be published tomorrow, he said: “If there is one thing I miss, it’s Old Trafford.READ MORE IN FOOTBALL”You’re always working towards a dot on the horizon but you never get to the horizon.”We’ve had many highs at Manchester United, but as I always say there is always room for improvement. And good is not enough, you can do better.”Ten Hag always thought highly of the Man Utd faithful, pending an emotional thank you letter to them after his sacking in which he said: “Dear fans, let me start by thanking you. “Thank you for always being there for the club. Whether it was a game far away or a tough match at Old Trafford, your support has been unshakeable. I also want to thank the staff in every department of the club for their unwavering support in good times and bad.”I wish all Manchester United fans nothing but success, trophies and glory. Your support and the warmth I received from everyone at the club helped me feel at home. Thank you for this chapter in my life.”During Ten Hag’s time in England, he won the League Cup and FA Cup.But he also oversaw Man Utd’s worst-ever Premier League finish in his second season before kicking off another record-breaking campaign in all the wrong ways.Ten Hag has been linked with a variety of managerial jobs, including Borussia Dortmund, after his two-and-a-half-year spell in Manchester came to an end.He added: “I had already decided for myself, ‘Okay, I’m not doing anything until the 1st of July’.”Man Utd ratings vs EvertonMANCHESTER UNITED fought back from two goals down to draw against Everton at Goodison ParkThe Red Devils were slammed as “embarrassing” by Rio Ferdinand after failing 2-0 down in the first half. But they fought back late on thanks to a stunning Bruno Fernandes free-kick and volley from Manuel Ugarte, who bagged his first goal since his summer arrival from PSG.Amorim’s men were then lucky to escape a penalty in the final moments after VAR overturned the decision.SunSport’s Ken Lawrence has given his ratings of the Manchester United team…Andre Onana – 7United needed him with his game-head on, and his 93rd-minute stop saved a point.Noussair Mazraoui 69′ – 4Looked seriously uncomfortable on the right side of the back three – forced there because of a defensive injury crisisHarry Maguire – 4Out-jumped by Doucoure as the midfielder grabbed Everton’s second and was generally all over the place.Matthijs de Ligt – 4Nowhere for Beto’s opener, completely missing attempted clearance and got away with a 93rd-minute penalty call.Diogo Dalot – 5At least shows willing. Which is more than could be said for some of his team mates at Goodison.Manuel Ugarte – 7Spent most of the game stranded in United’s midfield morass but salvation came with a brilliant strike.Casemiro 62′ – 2The Brazilian is beginning to look like the world’s oldest 32-year-old —he’s become a genuine irrelevance.Patrick Dorgu – 6Made a determined start down the left flank but that enthusiasm was slowly but surely sucked out of him.Bruno Fernandes – 8His free kick was genuine class and once he was dropped deeper started controlling the game.Joshua Zirkzee – 4At £36.5M you would expect an element of ball control but the Dutchman used as a joint No 10 just looks lost.Rasmus Hojlund 69′ – 3Not so much a desperate Dane, more a despairing one although it would help if he had some support.Subs:Alejandro Garnacho 62′ – 7Injected some desperately needed pace and passion. Leny Yoro 69′ – 6Should have been on much earlier.Chido Obi-Martin 69′ – 5The 17-year-old has a presence for sure.As well as the general pressures of the Man Utd job, Ten Hag was forced to deal with player mutinies from Cristiano Ronaldo and Jadon Sancho.Meanwhile, a bust-up he had with Raphael Varane also came to light last week. The centre-back revealed the pair had a heated argument in November 2023 when discussing the team’s form and set-up, which left Varane frozen out of the team for two months. The Frenchman told The Athletic: “It’s hard to find the right words, it was very tense at times.“Sometimes he made an effort to listen to the players’ feedback. Sometimes he made decisions without listening.“So there were ups and downs. It was complicated at times. He always needed an example of a player who was alone the entire time he was at Manchester.“He did that with at least one important player on the team. He was always in conflict with certain leaders of the group, that is his way of managing.“We had a robust discussion. We told each other some truths but then I didn’t play again for almost two months.“I said I didn’t agree with certain ways of doing things regarding the relationship between him and the team. “It wasn’t something that I thought was good for the team because some players weren’t satisfied.“It was not good in terms of the relationship with the coach. He said, ‘OK I heard what you said’, and after that I didn’t play.“I also have to recognise what was good. He gave me the peace of mind to come back from my injury to play in the FA Cup final.READ MORE SUN STORIES“He was counting on me, that was very positive, it allowed me to play my role in the team.”Varane also added he was “surprised” Ten Hag was kept on following the FA Cup final – one of many poor decisions from Ineos in their first 12 months in charge of United – as the “connection with the group no longer existed”.
