Doomed Man Utd boss Erik ten Hag fights back and claims pundits and fans have ‘no sense of reality’ after horror season

ERIK TEN HAG has hit back at his critics amid claims the Manchester United boss is on the brink of the sack. The Dutchman is set to be walking out the door even if the Red Devils beat Man City at the FA Cup final today.Erik ten Hag has hit back at pundits ‘who attack him to look better’Credit: GettyTen Hag is set to be sacked despite if United beat Man City at the FA Cup final todayCredit: GettyUnited’s dismal season is set to cost Ten Hag his job as reports on Friday revealed the 54-year-old will be sacked this weekend. The ex-Ajax man claimed the reason for the slack he has been getting this term is because people see United as an “easy prey”.Ten Hag told Dutch outlet Voetbal International: “The pundits in England want to score, they want to show they are worth the money, and for that Manchester United is an easy prey.”It’s the biggest club in England and possibly in the world. The club is either loved or hated, there is no in-between. READ MORE ON MAN UTD”So when things go bad, they all start talking and talking with very big words.”All this negativism from these so called experts who don’t have the capability to analyse something with facts, but who prefer to attack people to make themselves look better.”And these same people were the ones who gave me a pat on the back last year. “Last year I was able to walk on water, this year I am the worst manager in the Premier League!”Most read in FootballBEST FREE BET SIGN UP OFFERS FOR UK BOOKMAKERSAnd fans quickly responded on social media to say “this is full blown war”.While another added: “No truer words Erik, you won my heart.”How Man Utd can beat Man City in FA Cup finalTen Hag, who arrived at Old Trafford in 2022, led the Red Devils to a third-place finish and EFL Cup glory in his first season at the club. But has been unable to build upon that success this term, with United recording their lowest-ever Premier League finish. But in a blast at those who still expect more, he said: “Manchester United won the league for the last time in 2013, 11 years ago. But, still, they expect us to win every game while competing at the top. This club is not ready for that.“We were supposed to start building something and we made the first steps last year, but then you find out how big this club is and that nobody is ever satisfied.”Within the club people were satisfied, but outside the club there was noise by saying I won only the Carabao Cup, lost the FA Cup Final and finished third. Well, then you have no sense of reality. Other clubs had a much better squad.”Amid rumours that United chiefs are ready to move on from Ten Hag the Dutch boss has now claimed the owners “told him directly” that they want to “rebuild with him”.He continued: “They said they want to change everything and that they want to rebuild with me. This is what they told me directly.”Let me be clear. It has been bad. It has been crap. But despite everything, we are going to play an FA Cup final.”READ MORE SUN STORIESUnited have been hit with a number of injuries from the start of the season and saw their defence in particular suffer, which Ten Hag blamed for their poor performance.Ten Hag added: “The injuries have been really crazy. Not long ago I had to start my 15th different centre back duo of the season. I have had 33 different defensive lines this season.”Pundits’ verdict on Ten Hag’s futureWhere do the pundits stand on Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United future?
Michael Owen – He has to go
“He cannot, simply cannot, manage this team next season. He’s not good enough.”
Teddy Sheringham – Might stay if he wins Cup but should go
“If United win the FA Cup, he could stay. But, for me, changes are needed and United need to get it done sooner than later.”
    Jamie Carragher – Sacked
“I don’t see how Erik ten Hag stays. It’s just performance after performance.”
Gary Neville – Stay if he wins the FA Cup
“To sack a manager who’s won two trophies in his first two seasons at the club I think would be extreme.”
Louis Saha – On the fence
“I don’t see it as clearly but they need changes from the players but they need changes from him as well.”
    Alan Shearer – Sacked
“I believe the future of the Man Utd manager is already determined. Even if they win the FA Cup I think he’s gone.” More

I was banned for ten years for alleged spot-fixing in the FA Cup, Lucas Paqueta should get a 40-year ban if he’s guilty

FORMER non-league star Kynan Isaac called on the FA to smash Lucas Paqueta with a 40-YEAR ban for alleged spot-fixing.Isaac was banned for ten years in October 2022 after being found guilty by football’s ruling body of deliberately getting himself booked in an FA Cup tie.Kynan Isaac reveals he got depressed after his ban ‘but nobody from the PFA or FA got in touch to see how I was’West Ham midfielder Lucas Paqueta has been charged in relation to four bookings but denies doing anything wrongCredit: RexIt was claimed full-back Isaac’s caution for Stratford Town in a 5-1 loss to Shrewsbury in November 2021 was part of a betting scheme with pals.West Ham and Brazil midfielder Paqueta, 26, has been charged with deliberately getting himself booked in FOUR separate Prem matches so that he and/or his friends could benefit by betting on that happening. He denies any wrongdoing.Isaac, 31, said: “It will be very interesting to see what they do to him, there’s no point in me sitting here and letting everyone else get away with it.“It’s basic maths — if I got done for ten years for doing it once, by the same book he should get 40 years for doing it four times.READ MORE ON LUCAS PAQUETA“I can’t wait to see what they give him — it will be something pathetic like about a year or two, because he’s got money and an expensive lawyer.“If that happens they won’t be able to ignore me and the ban they gave me.”Isaac was also hit with a further 18-month ban after being found guilty of placing, or enabling, almost 350 bets on matches over a five-year period. The combined rap ensured he could not play until after his 40th birthday. Most read in FootballOne allegation against Brazil international Paqueta concerns this booking for a foul on Boubakary SoumareCredit: PAThe FA stopped him from playing immediately after his charges were announced and referred the case to police. He added: “The police came to my house and told  me there was a  warrant out for my arrest for X, Y and Z. I got a ten-year ban, even though they threw it out.“It will be interesting if they do the same with Paqueta, will he get the police turning up at his door. If not, why not? Why should he be treated any differently to me?“Also, even though I don’t know the exact details about what bets we’re talking about, it’s bound to be in the thousands. With me it was pennies.”Isaac — who passed his test to be a driving instructor  — was tempted to speak out when Brentford and England star Ivan Toney escaped with an eight-month ban a year ago after admitting 232 breaches of betting rules. The FA literally stopped me from playing any football, even seven-a-side or Sunday League. No-one worried about my mental health. He was also angered when Nottingham Forest’s Harry Toffolo was given a suspended five-month ban in September for 375 breaches of betting rules.Toffolo claimed he made the wagers when his “mental health was at a very low ebb”.Isaac said: “It was mentally awful for me. “Non-league footballer gets a ten-year ban and then you see a big-name star Toney — who was putting thousands of pounds on — still being allowed to play when he had been charged  and getting an England call-up.“His ban was really only six months, because it included the off-season. Gameweek 37 cheat sheet: How Dream Team bosses should approach the FA Cup final

THE regular Dream Team season will draw to a close this Saturday.Once the FA Cup final is in the history books, focus will switch entirely to our Euros fantasy game – which is available to play right now.CLICK HERE TO PLAY DREAM TEAM’S EUROS FANTASY GAME – £50,000 PRIZE POT, FREE TO ENTER, GREAT FUN!Will Pep Guardiola add another trophy to his collection this weekend?Credit: ReutersPlenty of gaffers will need a big finish in the London-based Manchester derby if they are to secure Mini League glory. And of course there’s the small matter of the massive sums of cash up for grabs at the top end of the overall leaderboard. So what’s the best way to approach the final fixture of the 2023/24 campaign?Inevitably, most managers are backing Manchester City to get the better of Manchester United at Wembley. At the time of writing, four of the five most transferred-in players ahead of the Gameweek 37 deadline are among Pep Guardiola’s favourites.MOST-POPULAR RECRUITS AHEAD OF GAMEWEEK 37:
    Rodri (£4.1m)
    Bernardo Silva (£4.2m)
    Bruno Fernandes (£5.7m)
    Kevin De Bruyne (£6.2m)
    Josko Gvardiol (£4.5m)
Most read in FootballMr PopularCredit: Dream TeamIt should go without saying that Phil Foden (£5.9m) and Erling Haaland (£7.5m) are the standout must-have assets as the two highest point-scorers in the game – the former is three points ahead of his team-mate on 386.The only reason the successful duo aren’t among the most-popular recruits is because they already feature in the majority of teams. In terms of strategy, it might be wise to switch to the lesser-used 4-5-1 formation with Haaland being the lone striker.Julian Alvarez (£4m) has plundered 280 points this season but the World Cup winner is likely to start on the bench. Those who fancy the Red Devils to land a glove or two on the Premier League champions could back Rasmus Hojlund (£3.5m), who has two goals in his last two outings.Although it’s worth noting the Denmark international mustered just 28 points in the ten outings prior – a listless run that featured just three shots on target.Hojlund is a differential option for gaffers who want to bet against Man City to some degreeCredit: GettyWith all this mind, it might be smart to stock up on Man City midfield assets instead.A quartet of Foden, De Bruyne, Rodri and Bernardo (alongside Fernandes) seemingly covers most bases – although some gaffers will be tempted to back the explosive Jeremy Doku (£3.7m) if they believe the Belgian winger will start. However, if there’s any indication Alvarez will get the nod then backing both of Man City’s forwards (and penalty-takers) seems reasonable. All Dream Team bosses should already be aware that Ederson (£2.9m) has been ruled out of the final after fracturing his eye socket at Tottenham.Truth be told, Stefan Ortega (£2.1m) would probably have started regardless as he’s played every minute of City’s FA Cup campaign so far.Alternatively, Andre Onana (£2.9m) is Dream Team’s outright top goalkeeper because of his insane tally of 190 saves. It’s entirely possible that the Cameroon international could concede two or three goals on Saturday but still return a decent haul through save points if it’s one-way traffic from start to finish.Only Trent Alexander-Arnold averages more points-per-game among Dream Team defenders in 2023/24Credit: GettyDream Team’s Nick Elliott previews this summer’s Euro 2024 tournament gameIn defence, Gvardiol is the man of the moment having banked 78 points via four goals, two assists and four clean sheets in his last eight games.Interestingly, Diogo Dalot (£3.2m) is the next-best defender on both sides having earned 220 points, just three short of City’s Croatian left-back.The Portuguese full-back ranks highly for bonus points, big chances created, assists and tackles among assets in his position – like Onana he’s capable of a healthy return even when his clean sheet hopes are low.John Stones (£3.1m) has generally been a substitute option of late after a campaign blighted by injuries but there’s not much between Kyle Walker (£3.7m), Manuel Akanji (£4.2m), Ruben Dias (£3.8m) and Nathan Ake (£3.2m).One of that quartet is likely to be missing from the starting XI, possibly Ake given his recent minor injury but the Dutchman did come off the bench in the second half against West Ham.Fernandes has racked up 320 points this seasonCredit: GettyGaffers limited in scope should prioritise Man City’s heavy hitters in attack and Fernandes, who averages nine points-per-game since the turn of the year.Haaland and Foden are clearly the two best captaincy candidates and there’s not much between them at all.The England midfielder is generally more consistent as he picks up plenty of bonus points whereas City’s No9 is more of a feast-or-famine asset.READ MORE SUN STORIESThat being said, Haaland’s ceiling is enormous, as evidenced by his five-goal rout against Luton earlier in the season. Before managers lock in their transfers/captain for the 2pm deadline on Saturday, they should seek out all relevant team news – an unfortunate injury has the potential to scupper what should be entertaining end of the campaign.talkSPORT BET Welcome offer

Rio Ferdinand reckons Man Utd WILL sack Erik ten Hag even if he wins FA Cup as ‘performances have been so bad’

Andre Onana offers to ‘take bullets’ as he names himself among four Man Utd stars who should face criticism

We cannot go thinking that we are going to lose otherwise it’s better to not step on to the pitch.”We’re there to win, we have important players, good players with a lot of personality and experience.”SunSport’s verdict on Man Utd flopsSir Jim Ratcliffe and Ineos have a busy summer ahead to get Man Utd’s squad in order for next season. Below SunSport gives it verdict on how they should deal with the Red Devils flops this summer.
Andre Onana – STAY: After a dodgy start at Old Trafford Onana has proven to be one of the more reliable members of the squad this season despite being peppered with shots constantly.
Altay Bayindir – GO: Reports in February suggested Bayindir was unhappy with his bit part role at Man Utd amid interest from Turkish giants Galatasaray. If profit can be made on a sale then it should be done.
Tom Heaton – STAY: Veteran goalkeeper Heaton, 38, is a reliable back-up and is on a relatively small wage at the club. So long as he is happy it makes sense to keep him.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka – GO: Wan-Bissaka, 26, has never managed to make the right-back position his own. With his contract up in 2025 it makes sense to cash in now.
Diogo Dalot – STAY: Dalot, 26, has been one of Man Utd’s most consistent performers this season.
Raphael Varane – GO: If it wasn’t for his injury record there would be a strong shout to keep Varane, but costs need to be cut to allow the squad to be freshened up.
Harry Maguire – GO: Maguire has showed he has the right character to be at Man Utd but overall ability and desired profile are another matter, with Maguire too slow to play in a high line defence.
Lisandro Martinez – STAY: Martinez, 26, is second to none in terms of build up play. He needs a long-term defensive partner on the right side and to cut out the injuries which have plagued him this season.
Jonny Evans – GO: Veteran campaigner Evans could easily be on the stay list if he was only going to be a bit part player. But he has shown his advanced years at times this season.
Victor Lindelof – GO:  Lindelof, 29, has been reliable if not unremarkable in his Man Utd career. He has one year left on his contract so should be moved on if a decent transfer fee can be got for him.
Willy Kambwala – STAY: He should be given the opportunity to mature for a few years behind a senior CB pairing before stepping into the first team as a starter or being moved on.
Luke Shaw – GO: One of the Premier League’s best left-backs when fit, Shaw has been a good servant when available. But alas that has been his Achilles heel once again this season.
Tyrell Malacia – STAY: Malacia, 24, was decent enough to earn some merit in his first season at Man Utd before injury ended his season and inadvertently led to his second season being a write off.
Sofyan Amrabat – GO: Amrabat, 27, looked like a world beater at the Qatar World Cup with Morocco. But he’s had an underwhelming season in England and his loan spell will almost certainly not be made permanent.
Casemiro – GO: An alarming physical decline has seen him turn from key star to burden. If a club is willing to buy the 32-year-old – who has two more years on his contract – then United should snatch their hand off.
Christian Eriksen – GO: Eriksen proved a useful asset and Ineos should look to bring in another player with similar traits, but frankly his legs have looked gone towards the end of this season.
Kobbie Mainoo – STAY: The first of the so-called untouchables, Mainoo has been a rare glimmer of hope in the Red Devils midfield this season.
Mason Mount – STAY: Mount can be given the benefit of the doubt until summer 2025 at least after a debut season riddled with injury.
Scott McTominay – STAY: McTominay, 27, has proven himself to be a brilliant plan B off the bench this season, and that is exactly why Ineos should look to keep him.
Bruno Fernandes – STAY: Man Utd’s best player since his arrival just over four years ago, Fernandes, 29, remains second-to-none when it comes to creating chances while his tenacity boosts those around him.
Antony – GO: There’s a case to argue that Antony may be the worst pound-for-pound signing in Premier League history. Despite some memorable moments he simply isn’t Man Utd quality.
Anthony Martial – GO: Ultimately Martial needs to be let go when his deal runs out this summer after an appalling injury record of late.
Marcus Rashford – STAY: As easy as it would be to say Rashford should leave the club this summer, it is difficult to look at the market and find many available players capable of scoring 30 goals a season.
Alejandro Garnacho – STAY: Another third of the untouchables trio, Garnacho has made the right-wing his own since coming into it. He’s a raw talent but has shown he has the quality to improve.
Rasmus Hojlund – STAY: A slow burner in his first Man Utd season, the 21-year-old has often been starved of supply which has led to him being unable to get the goals his movement and unselfish play often merits.
Amad Diallo – STAY: In the fleeting moments he has been on the pitch for Man Utd this season, Diallo has looked dangerous and exciting. He should be given a chance to flourish with some proper chances in the first team across a whole season. More
