Man Utd blasted by Everton fan groups after raising away ticket prices for FA Cup tie to £45

MANCHESTER UNITED have been blasted by Everton fan groups after raising away ticket prices for their FA Cup tie to £45.The Red Devils will host the Toffees at Old Trafford in the third round on January 6.

The game has also been chosen to be broadcast live on ITV.
Everton have been given an away allocation of 9,000 tickets for the bumper showdown.
However, the cost of them has left them fuming.
And they have now called on both the Football Association and English Football League to follow the Premier League’s example by introducing a price cap for their cup competitions.

Everton’s supporters groups have come together to release a statement this morning.
It read: “Whilst we appreciate the generous allocation that will allow more than 9,000 Evertonians to support our team at the FA Cup third round tie at Old Trafford in January, we were shocked that Manchester United chose to raise the ticket price for away ticket 150 per cent (£30 to £45) of what the equivalent Premier League fixture would cost.
“The fixture will take place almost a year to the day one of their most prominent footballers was instrumental in raising £200,000 through the ‘Full Time Meals’ campaign (enough to fund 750,000 meals for FareShare) and against the backdrop of a national cost of living crisis.
“Such a pricing policy is a slap in the face to everyone who has campaigned for sensible and affordable ticketing pricing for visiting supporters, a campaign that resulted in the price of away tickets being capped at £30 for Premier League fixtures since the 2016-17 season.

“Earlier this year, all 20 Premier League clubs unanimously agreed to maintain this cap for the next three seasons, so it will not be revisited until 2025.
“For many years, prices for visiting supporters for FA Cup fixtures had to be agreed by both clubs, but an FA rule change in 2017 has allowed home clubs to charge more or less what they like.
“We’re now calling on the Football Association and English Football League to introduce a similar cap for FA Cup and League Cup fixtures and put the interests of supporters first.” More

Argentina boss Lionel Scaloni is on the cusp of World Cup glory… but he once cost West Ham the FA Cup final

ARGENTINA manager Lionel Scaloni is on the cusp of winning the World Cup… but his experience in finals isn’t positive having once cost West Ham FA Cup glory.Scaloni has guided Argentina to the World Cup final where they will face France on Sunday afternoon.

The 44-year-old can write his name into the history books but Hammers fans will always remember his costly mistake against Liverpool when they were on the verge of winning the FA Cup in 2006.
West Ham were leading 3-2 in stoppage time when Djibril Cisse went down injured and Scaloni put the ball out of play for a throw-in near his own goal.
Liverpool, in sporting spirit, resumed the game by giving possession back to the Argentine but the right-back panicked and launched the ball into the middle of the pitch for Gerrard to pick it up.
Liverpool managed to work a cross and the clearance was volleyed into the net by Reds captain Gerrard from 35-yards to send it to extra-time, followed by penalties.

West Ham lost the penalty shoot-out 3-1 and the match was dubbed the ‘Gerrard final’ after his heroics that saw him score a brace in the match as Liverpool fought back from behind twice.
The East London side were managed by Alan Pardew at the time who has spoken to The Telegraph about his memories of the day at the Millennium Stadium.
Pardew recalled Scaloni’s mistake jokingly saying: “He cost me a Cup final winners’ medal and I can never forgive him.”
But to this day Pardew still speaks in despair saying: “It’s a moment of madness because there was a minute left and all we had to do is run the clock down.

“You don’t want the ball to end up centrally in the pitch at that time.
“It was at complete odds with a player who was ordinarily one of the most savvy in the team – he’d have been bottom of my list to do that.
“With some I’d have gone, ‘Well, what do you expect, you know?’ but here’s our most intelligent, sensible player.
“So many West Ham fans have come up to me over the years and said, ‘Oh my god, that throw in. What was he thinking?’
“All this time later and they still bring it up. If only he’d just done something different.”
Pardew, who is now managing Greek side Aris Thessaloniki, admitted he has not spoken about the moment with Scaloni since the day it happened.
But the ex-Newcastle boss does believe that he must tell his players about what he did to teach them a lesson on how not to defend a lead in a final.
Pardew went on to say that Scaloni was a likeable and calming influence in the West Ham dressing room who was always looking to absorb everything and learn.

Scaloni was on loan at the Irons for half a season after arriving in January 2006 and he played just 17 games before returning to Deportivo La Coruna, where he spent eight years of his career.
Argentina will be hoping Lionel Messi can inspire them to glory at the weekend and no defender makes an error like their manager once did 16 years ago.

United fans bemoan luck of the draw
The Red Devils drawing Everton didn’t go down well with United fans on social media – as many seemed to be hoping for lower-league opposition.
One said: “There could have only been one other PL team in that draw and we’d still have got them. Our luck with draws is shocking.”
Another posted: “Championship league 1 league 2 national league teams all in the draw but we still get a prem team.”
And the moaning continued with: “Another boring home draw that’ll no doubt get moved to Friday or Monday night for TV. Sigh.”
But another wrote: “Us against Everton in the FA Cup, good memories.”

    Time stops for Norman
Manchester United drawing Everton has brought back memories of an iconic FA Cup final winner.
Norman Whiteside saw off the Toffees by swerving a famous and brilliant extra-time clincher for the only goal of the 1985 showpiece.

In fact, the Northern Ireland legend raised almost £200,000 from his memorabilia for that game at auction two years ago.
Whiteside, now 57, said at the time: “This will go a long way to subsidise my pension that I never really had when I was a player.”
Utd and City land cracking ties
It sounds more like a final – but Manchester City will host Chelsea in surely the pick of the FIVE all-Premier League third-round ties.
One Etihad fan posted: “This is just ridiculous chelsea in the first stage of both the carabao and fa cup what are the odds of that.”
Another joked: “The FA making sure chelsea ends the season trophyless.”

Wood vs Stanley for live TV?
Fans of Boreham Wood and Accrington Stanley have been joking about their third-round clash being a live pick for TV.
Both teams wanted Prem opposition rather than each other.
But their supporters took the draw in good spirit online.
One said: “Coming from an Accrington fan – as desperate as I am for Stanley to make the fourth round I’m very glad at least one of these two teams will be in round 4!”
And a Wood follower said: “What an opportunity to get through to the next round.
“Sending very best wishes from Montenegro and hoping to read of further success to come. I used to get taken to see you guys play back in the 1970s as a young lad! Go the Wood!”
But when one joked £Hopefully a TV tie” another replied: “Not a chance.”
    Back in our Pomp…
Portsmouth couldn’t resist a flashback to a famous win after being draw at Tottenham.
Pompey beat Spurs 2- 0 at Wembley in April 2010 to reach their second FA Cup final in three years.
And along with a video of the goals, now-League One side Portsmouth posted: “Don’t say it, don’t say it, don’t say it. Spurs in the FA Cup, you say?”
Didier Drogba notched the only goal for Chelsea against Pompey in the final 12 years ago.

    ‘Owling success
Sheffield Wednesday’s 2-1 late comeback win over Mansfield topped the second-round attendances.
And the three biggest crowds for the next stage could all be in the north west.
Man Utd host Everton, City entertain Chelsea and Liverpool entertain Wolves.

    Wrex-rated daw for Coventry
Hollywood’s Wrexham owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney wills see the National League leaders visit mid-table Championship side Coventry.
Dragons’ fans labelled it a “tasty” draw” and a perfect test of how far the big spenders have come.
But others wer less happy at missing a real top glamour tie.
One said of Coventry: Too good to realistically beat, but not a special day out.. Respectable but meh!”

    Watch the replays first
Two enticing second-round replays will be televised live on terrestrial TV.
Charlton visit Stockport County for the right to host Walsall.
And Gillingham entertain Dagenham & Redbridge with extra edge – as the winners are at home to Prem side Leicester.

    Was the draw a bore?
Social media was divided over whether the FA Cup has lost more of its prestige by making the third-round draw during the World Cup.
Several fans bemoaned how long it took and one posted: “It was a very very very dull draw!”
And another claimed: “We’re watching the World Cup, no one is interested in FA CUP FOR NOW.”
Don’t write us Gills off yet!
Gillingham fans are peeved that pundits are trailing Dagenham & Redbridge as hosting Leicester City.
The Gills, second bottom in League Two, snatched an stoppage-time leveller at the Daggers to earn a second-round replay.
And the winners have a prime clash at home to the Foxes.
But one Gills’ fan posted: “@ITVSport have already wrote gills off, just as us fans have. Dagenham vs Leicester apparently.
And another wrote: “#ITVSport#PORGHA please tell your commentator that Dagenham & Redbridge will play Leicester IF they beat Gillingham. They probably will mind-you, but as a @TheGillsFC fan we deserve a little hope!”
Always look on the Whiteside of life…

It sounds more like a final – but Manchester City will host Chelsea in surely the pick of the FIVE all-Premier League third-round ties.
One Etihad fan posted: “This is just ridiculous chelsea in the first stage of both the carabao and fa cup what are the odds of that.”

    Reds should focus on cups
Ex-Liverpool striker John Aldridge says the Reds should put extra focus on the FA this season – so a home clash with Wolves is a tougher draw than they might have liked.
Aldridge reckons the Premier League title is already out of Liverpool’s reach – freeing them up for a real go at cup glory.
    Wood you believe it?
It was the draw neither of them wanted.
But Boreham Wood boss Luke Garrard and Accrington Stanley manager John Coleman could joke about in person – as they were at Anfield together to hear it!
National League promotion-chasers Wood will host League One strugglers Stanley – when both were hoping for a money-spinning tie.

Spectator numbers saw the club establish a new record for the largest attendance at a Women’s FA Cup game outside of the contest final.
And it also led the Magpies to set a new record for the biggest crowd to ever watch a women’s football game at St James’ Park.
Wilson, who was subbed on in the second half, told BBC Radio Newcastle: “Watching from the sidelines, it’s one of those ones that once an (opposing) team scores here the mood goes down.
“But then you know that everyone in the crowd is just going to lift everyone back up, and especially in our dressing room.
“No one is going to give up and everyone has each other’s backs, especially people coming on.
“And I think everyone of those players who didn’t come on (the pitch) have made an impact.

“I’m just really glad that I came on and we gave it that little bit of an extra push.
“We’ve been in situations before when we have been like one-nil down, two-nil down and we’ve come back from it.
“The game is never lost until the final whistle goes so we just keep pushing and kind of showing character but that’s what’s instilled in us to do.”
Emily Pierrepont opened the scoring with a thumping effort from just outside the 18-yard box in the 15th minute before Georgie Gibson levelled with her 30-yard strike in the 68th minute.
And Wilson sealed the win for her side with a spectacular effort from distance with the ball bouncing off the post into the net.
Of her stunning strike, Wilson added: “I took it (the shot) because I could see she (the goalkeeper) was off her line and it went in and so it paid off.

“A couple of my coaches were in the crowd, and one of them properly said just shoot and score a worldy and that was pretty good advice”.
The victory saw Newcastle enter the pot for the contest’s third round fixtures.
The draw will be conducted live on talkSPORT on Monday (28 November) at 7:00 pm.
